- agaiziunas, on 11/11/2008, -8/+29Let's put this in perspective:
"Mobile carriers in France reduce price of 6-month-old mobile phone."
Oh, wait. The phone has an Apple logo on it, and the article is from appleinsider.com. DIGG Front page, here we come!!!!
For the record, I have & love my iPhone, but that's where I draw the line as that's where the real innovation ends... - smacksaw, on 11/11/2008, -1/+13What's notable isn't that the price of a "mobile phone" has been lowered, but that Apple's headlock of carrier pricing is being escaped.
Which signals potential changes for consumers everywhere.
Amazingly, either you did not get that or you ignored it at a meagre attempt at humour. - turquoisefish, on 11/11/2008, -0/+7As apposed to Orange UK
- daroots, on 11/11/2008, -0/+6Already at 99 CHF here in Switzerland ....about 70 Euros
- BluBerryGTI, on 11/11/2008, -3/+9HAHA the guy above me makes me laugh
i still dont have my iphone.... - ramkam, on 11/11/2008, -1/+7that's 120 minutes of outgoing calls. only north america is charging for incoming calls as far as i know of. no caller id surcharges, no extra access fees or 911 fees BS either, and usually 45eur taxes inclusive.
- paulbart, on 11/11/2008, -0/+5>> Why do people say "Orange France" like we don't know the company is French?
Perhaps it's to distinguish it from "Orange Switzerland", "Orange Spain", "Orange Slovakia", etc, etc?
Do they *all* have the same deal, or is it just the company operating inside the country of France? (I assumed the latter from the article, but maybe it's all of them - in which case your point might make sense) - rolf, on 11/11/2008, -0/+5The price of the phone doesn't matter so much as the contract and it's longterm price.
I'm seriously considering buying an unlocked iPhone (truly unlocked, not turbosim BS) from Hong Kong just so I can escape ATT's clutches and mandatory minimum contract. - rald84, on 11/11/2008, -0/+5i believe its "quoi?"
- blackjack75, on 11/11/2008, -0/+4To be fair, all uneducated french teens spell it "koi" in their IM clients. Not that this is an example to follow. Amirite?
- paulbart, on 11/11/2008, -1/+5EPIC 'SENSE OF HUMOR' FAIL!
(at least I assume tmyprod was making a joke about the generally poor U.S. exchange rate) - turquoisefish, on 11/11/2008, -0/+4In the UK you can get a 3G iPhone for free on a £45, 18 month contract, and have been able to since launch.
- ezoby, on 11/11/2008, -0/+4in hungary http://iphone.t-mobile.hu/
990forint =~5$ - pak314, on 11/11/2008, -4/+7on pourrait tuer des bébés phoques aussi.
- snagra, on 11/11/2008, -0/+3You know who can put any att sim card into an iPhone and it will work without being unlocked. That's what I did. Now I have my iPhone running on whatever plan I want it to.
- smacksaw, on 11/11/2008, -2/+5"Pour la forfait 2h"...umm, koi?
A 2-hour package? Per month? That's not very good. - allyant, on 11/11/2008, -0/+3You still can't get the iphone on pay-as-you go for a decent price.
- macbookhair, on 11/11/2008, -0/+3You must be stupid because that is with a new contract or renewing a current one.
- pgouy, on 11/11/2008, -0/+2Uh? Americans users pay for incoming calls?
- yyymilitia, on 11/11/2008, -2/+4In other news Orange is raising it's rates
- curnets, on 11/11/2008, -2/+4dugg for 99 euro, i got my for $600
- inactive, on 11/11/2008, -0/+2But you can't get an iPhone without contract.
Unless you meant eBay where they are 4x the price... I think I prefer the contract. - blackjack75, on 11/11/2008, -0/+2Whis isn't that funny anymore since the Dollar is now much stronger than before against the Euro (although not ast much as it used to be).
- JamesMorris, on 11/11/2008, -0/+1How much are they in Hong Kong out of interest?
- jo21, on 11/12/2008, -0/+1i got my n82 with 8gb card free what a deal, contracts are awesome =)
- ramkam, on 11/12/2008, -0/+1any mobile airtime, be it incoming or outgoing except customer service. unless you pick an "unlimited incoming" plan, but it'll cost ya a leg and half an arm per minute to place an outgoing call though.
- MrMoonlight, on 11/11/2008, -0/+1this ain't true
- godsdead, on 11/11/2008, -0/+1Thats still a whopping £1080 for that two years..
I recon i spend half that in two years for communication with my mobile. - cleric04, on 11/11/2008, -0/+1To use on the other GSM 3G network in the US oh wait......
- gamerscalling, on 11/11/2008, -0/+1You can get an iPhone with any ATT plan anyways. Don't need to get data or anything.
- jo21, on 11/12/2008, -0/+1no, it 1800$ without going over the minutes :D
- tmyprod, on 11/11/2008, -8/+9That's what, like $800 USD?
- SadMartigan, on 11/25/2008, -0/+1Spain got it 4 months ago for 39€
http://www.flickr.com/photos/aparejador/2655021439 ... - ralphodog, on 11/11/2008, -1/+2Incoming calls in France are free, and texts are also significantly cheaper versus airtime, thus one doesn't use nearly as many minutes there. I recall my cell phone bill in France working out to .4 euros/minute, so this isn't really a bad price at all.
- blackjack75, on 11/11/2008, -0/+1sure... but then you pay a generous monthly fee to get a miserable amount of data (25 chf for 100 mb!, 35 chf for 250 mb and a joyful 55 chf for 1 gb per month).
I wouldn't brag about it. That's one of the reasons I passed on a swiss iphone. - ReyX, on 11/11/2008, -0/+1Johnny Halliday? Is that you? :)
- inactive, on 11/11/2008, -2/+2You must be stupid since it's $199.
- esbi, on 11/11/2008, -2/+2What's the big deal? Here (Poland) you can get one for 1zl (around 30-40 cents) with a contract.
- nshop2, on 02/23/2009, -0/+0Nice review... I liked it.
Thanks
