- koregaonpark, on 10/12/2007, -4/+45Right. It's Oprah, not Opera.
One's a woman, the other's a browser. I know we geeks mix up the two :-) - thehans, on 10/12/2007, -8/+30Yes! There is still hope for a yellow/cancer ipod baNANO!
- gregdigg, on 10/12/2007, -4/+24Interesting point. I hadn't thought of it that way.
- longofest, on 10/12/2007, -9/+26Not to mention that Opera is also a form of long-standing musical theater...

oh how we have fun when people complain that their story isn't being dugg, yet their story has spelling mistakes in the title... - BrandNewDigger, on 10/12/2007, -7/+17While it only costs them around $70 bucks to make a 4GB ipod nano, if you include advertising, R+D, etc, it's only about a 10% profit margin. If they are giving 5% of each sale to charity, then they are giving away about 50% of their profit. I'd say that's pretty cool.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15Oh sweet, they're in the same room at once... someone use this golden opportunity to TAKE THEM BOTH OUT!
- Pharaoh777, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14Ever heard of research and development? Marketing? Salaries? Dividends?
There are many more costs to a company than just the hardware. - Quix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I like how in the photo the Apple Store employees are huddled in the opposite corner of the store.
"Attention peons: do not approach Mr. Bono or Ms. Winfrey. I repeat, DO NOT approach Mr. Bono or Ms. Winfrey." - chrisbtig, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Wish I was at the taping of her show when they make this announcement. 'Cuz you just know she's going to give one to every member of the audience.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6RED?
Brown is where its at.
/sarcasm - Protoss, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8baNano phone?
- hansamurai, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9Money and DRM. Don't forget that. But of course, DRM is directly related to money. So you're right, just money.
- tastypastry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Since when was Apple a color?
- HaltingPoint, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Sorry for top-posting but they were also at The Gap this morning and I was there and took pics. Read a first hand account of the lovely wait and the 5 seconds they spent with their fans at:
http://haltingpoint.blogspot.com/2006/10/bono-and-oprah-and-gap-make-fans-wait.html - compu73rg33k, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4If you RTFA it's 4 GB.
- Scizofrenic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Go for it. It's not like they are forcing you purchase a nano in order to allow you to donate.
- kolop1, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5 That's great. He also supports a one world government, and thinks America who is in debt, should relieve other countries of their debt. That would be a good way to bankrupt the us, and send us into an economic downfall. Bono should donate his money and keep it to him self. Anyone who goes look a me I have donated all this money to charity, is nothing more than a self serving jackass.
- tnwake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Enron had a Federal ID# and donations to their executives were handled by an accounting firm.. Arthur Anderson.
Seriously though, this is already on digg.. why link to it again? - mrwhiskey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The sad thing about reading allot of these comments is that people really have no understanding of anything that Bono does and how he has affected the world in a positive way, but they make uneducated comments. While I do not like Oprah's show, she really trys to help people and is a role model for black people. Bono never professes to be anything but a rock star. He has donated millions of his own money to charity and donates more of his time. That may be why he was nominated for a Nobel prize last year. Hmmm... from the comments on this board, I guess they are buying those now with fame and Apple's backing.
- cwcentral, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So long red ribbon.
Instead of 10$ ribbons to wear every year around this time, it will be $99 nanos.
Thank Lance Armstrong ($$ Livestrong's) for making stupid trinkets expensive. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2tnwake
This guy is just spamming. Seen the link on 4 different diggs - FreeiPodGuy.com, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3What's Opera, Doc?
- yelkereb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Wow, everyone unaware of the crisis in Africa raise your hands. Way to bag someone for advocating we try and prevent the economic death of a continent. Even if you chalk everything he’s done up to shameless self-promotion, he’s still doing good with his celebrity. Unlike most who simply revel in it, and enjoy not having to make reservations at nice restaurants. Considering the amount of time he spends on the cause it would seem a little unlikely he simply is looking for attention, not a lot of screaming fans and world economics summits, but whatever.
- DelMonte, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"my wallet has a DRM wrapper"
You're talking about the Zune right? The music player that acts as a DRM wrapper? - koregaonpark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Np. Thanks for the pics!
- Quix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm torn on my opinion of Oprah. On one show she's helping starving children, in the next she's showing off her new closet that's as big as many apartments, with hundreds of pairs of shoes and shelves upon shelves of identical sweaters in every possible hue. There seems to be a disconnect. I've never been a multi-bajillionaire (nor ever will be), but I would think some level of simplistic living would still be possible if one were to make a public crusade out of helping the needy.
I really lost respect for her when Janet Jackson was on her show recently.
Janet: "Yes, Oprah, my top just ACCIDENTALLY came off at the Super Bowl. You know, bra cups tend to just fall away with the slightest tug. Really."
Oprah: "OK."
Weak. James Frey wishes he had gotten off that easy. - slantyeyed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2how about I just give $10 directly to an AIDS research / charity / whatever and NOT let Apple, Oprah or Bono profit from it?
- mikev, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Oh yes and Microsoft are coding Vista away for your pleasure and no profit at all.
Gimme a break - cjmemay, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Additionally you neglected:
buy- purchase
by- a horse's paternal parentage. Wait, WHAT?!?
(Oh well, no good intarweb definitions of 'by")
As in, I am going to BUY the record BY Queen. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3BROWN is where its at bitch
- bebopredux, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4"That "sellout" has donated more to charities than you will make in your lifetime."
Hey Mogus, exactly what amount has he given? I only hear him asking us to give whilst he jets around and hobnobs with the rich and famous.
Let's see some real numbers. I'll be waiting........... - mogus, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4You may not like U2, but to call him incompetent is kind of dumb, don't you think? Considering how many albums they've sold, and how long they've been popular, someone must think they're good. Also, I'd like to see you even match the percentage of your income that he gives to charities, much less the actual dollar amount.
- JeremyBanks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1RTFA! It will cost the same as the other 4GB models, though $10 from each sale is going to chairty.
- kolop1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3 Yes, and it will increase Ipod sales, Itunes sales, and make more money for Apple. Woot!!!
- hansamurai, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Wow, do people really care about this that much? Oh yeah, it's Apple.
- JamJosh, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3baNANO...oh thats good stuff. I give it a for real LOL.
- ScornForSega, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2"Eddie Vedder is even better looking in person, I wish he did not have a girlfriend, no I'm not saying I'm gay, but there comes a time in every man's life when he questions his own sexuality..."
- bebopredux, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5Nice thing on the surface but....
Bono and U2 have moved their business empire from Ireland to Holland to avoid paying the new high tax rates that have been imposed by the Irish government on music royalties.
If Bono, whose estimated worth is said to be in excess of $700 million, wants to save on his tax bill, that's understandable. The problem is that this is the same guy who has consistently urged the U.S. government to use its own citizens' tax dollars to finance other nations' social programs and forgive Third World countries' debts.
Bottom line? Bono wants YOU and I to give up a vastly larger ratio of our earnings than he ever has. I have yet to see how much Bono has actually given.
"Do as I say and not as I do"............right Bono? - foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Digg never allows 2 stories with the exact same link..... wtf?
- CraigJ, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6who cares about the cause - red is cool
- Bob042, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Hmm. Apple colored Apple. Makes sense to me.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Wow...a compressed audio file player that is red...WOW. lol
- PFS1, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4I guess Bono just wan't happy with name behind only one specialty iPod!
- cjmemay, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yeah, and it would allow everyone else's complacency and apathy to continue on, uninterrupted.
Great idea! - Yarnage, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1WHy is he being dug down? He's correct. Bono has always been this way (and most other movie stars do this)
- tyho, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3I saw a pink Nano at Best Buy the other day. So go celebrate breasts! I try to celebrate a little everyday.
- MOJIRA, on 05/17/2008, -2/+2They already have one: http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/
How about one with a breast graphic and the nipple centered on the OK button? It would sell.. - mogus, on 10/12/2007, -8/+7That "sellout" has donated more to charities than you will make in your lifetime.
- Quix, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3tnwake = not good at business math
- tnwake, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1If R&D, Marketing, etc. cost more per product than the product itself... then something is seriously wrong. Why is their stuff so crappy they have to spend more advertising it than they do making it?!
