- PhilMcKraken, on 10/10/2007, -188/+753The fact that they had to reboot is proof enough that they are running Windows.
- shad0walker, on 10/10/2007, -17/+336Assuming its a non interactive display, they could save themselves the hassle and just have a DVD player behind the displays.
- thejokell, on 10/22/2007, -112/+415Yeah! Take that! Windows crashed and had to be rebooted! You suck Mac!
- serpicolugnut, on 10/10/2007, -30/+267Who posted this? Michael Scott of Dunder Miflin? So what if it's running on WinXP - it's an AT&T store - not an Apple Store.
- inactive, on 10/22/2007, -164/+400Ha! Take that Apple Fanboy!
- tapezor, on 10/16/2007, -69/+300yea... because you never have to reboot a mac... that response makes perfect sense.
- modifiedbears, on 10/22/2007, -33/+204No one said it crashed. You do have to, you know, turn it on every once and awhile.
- quik22, on 10/10/2007, -51/+207That's right apple fan boys! Our PC's crash! Take that!
- Odweaver, on 10/10/2007, -33/+158Because obviously when a PC display crashes at an AT&T store, it means the iPhone sucks.
- toxicityj, on 10/10/2007, -23/+115oh because a Windows loading screen means the computer crashed?
- fpcyber, on 10/16/2007, -9/+94Who says this was rebooted? This could have been taken in the morning when the store opened and they are starting the computer.
- pbaehr, on 10/10/2007, -12/+75I'm burying this as lame, mostly because the asinine comments here don't deserve to see the light of day.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -15/+76aren't those iphone demo screens just a full-screened video? could use any computer... or a dvd player... or a flash drive
- alienforever, on 10/10/2007, -5/+65why everyone thinks it's a reboot. Can this be a startup?
- toxicityj, on 10/10/2007, -12/+57every morning when I turn my computer on
- noctumfish, on 10/10/2007, -16/+52"Windows runs the world"
well.. republicans run the world.. doesn't mean they do a good job.. - HonoredMule, on 10/10/2007, -5/+39...until that ONE day that employee X forgets until a couple hours after store opening and customer Y has a camera phone on hand. And now we can all bask in irony. It's warm and tingly, with a low UV index.
- JovialTempest, on 10/10/2007, -106/+135This only thing that plays on those displays is an advertisement that can be run off any console. Obviously this AT&T store chose XP. Had they used OSX that reboot would not have been needed.
- MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -5/+33This nonsense that all creative types use Macs is just that...nonsense. If that were true, then big companies like Adobe wouldn't bother with Windows versions of Photoshop. Believe it or not, there are many people that prefer Windows (for whatever reason) over OS X or Linux. Doesn't make them stupid, or moronic, just that it's a personal preference. I prefer Macs. Doesn't mean that everyone else has to.
BOT: To the Mac fanboys. It's a boot screen. You know what that means? It means it's a computer with Windows on it that is just starting up. That's all. Doesn't mean it crashed, or BSODed or anything else. For all the Windows fanboys gloating over a display for the iPhone running Windows...it's an ATT store not an Apple store. If it was an Apple store it would be on an Apple display on a Mac. Will all of you please grow up and stop obsessing over what other people run on their computers. - datdamonfoo, on 10/10/2007, -19/+46I just built a new computer two nights ago, and had to restart Windows to install the hardware. Does that mean it crashed before hand? Oh and hey, how's building a Mac going for you?
- TheSubStylee, on 10/10/2007, -6/+33Let's not forget this was in an AT&T store. We ALL know AT&T sucks.
- compdude32, on 10/10/2007, -12/+39Ever hear of a reboot? Maybe the power went out? There are hundreds of reasons why it was rebooting out side of a system crash, and quite honestly if all it was doing was playing the same demo video in a looping mode I highly doubt it crashed.
- devindotcom, on 10/10/2007, -8/+34Actually, I find myself having to download endless updates for my mac which are not only huge but all require restarts. I do not buy into the "you never have to reboot" thing - and anyway, people, you should be shutting down your computer when it is not in use.
- Godlike, on 10/10/2007, -11/+36I think that it is very funny that the mac/linux crowd talk about windows like they know anything at all about it. My home windows box is bearly maintained (I hate working on my own stuff now that I have a job doing it) and I run tons of apps and normally have month-long (or even longer) uptimes unless I have to install something. Seriously, quit bashing software that you know little or nothing about. I am sure some of you that trash it really do know something about it, but if all the people that don't know crap would shut their mouths this whole debate would end rather quickly.
- Tyr7BE, on 10/10/2007, -10/+34Not so. My iBook reboots a RIDICULOUS amount. Every time there's a minor update, reboot. The other day there was a security update. No updates to the kernel. Just stuff stuff like bzip2, samba, etc. I made sure to read the whole thing because I was looking for a reason why I had to reboot. No reason I could see, but nonetheless I had to reboot. Also, whenever apple update tells me there's an update to quicktime or itunes, guess what? I'm rebooting.
Why can't they take a page from Linux? The only time I ever reboot that thing is when there's a kernel update that comes down the pipe. Literally everything else it just takes the update in stride. - Stevethegreat, on 10/10/2007, -28/+52Not to me or any other computer literate people. For the illiterate ones there are always the Macs.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -16/+40It's probably not a reboot. They just opened the store and they probably have that on a master power circuit. It turns on every morning when they flip on the power for the rest of the store.
Not like you would expect Apple fans to think about that logically. They use Apple products. Their lack of logic and reasoning is shown in the fact that they will pay a premium for subpar products that have nothing to offer that you can't get elsewhere cheaper...except cool marketing. - virtualball, on 10/10/2007, -2/+25I don't understand the Office reference, could you explain it a little more? :(
- _skin_, on 10/10/2007, -5/+24The apple store has the GIANT iPhone running on a mac pro.
- stormgren, on 10/10/2007, -2/+20I really want one of those giant iPhones. So much cooler than the real thing.
- spyrochaete, on 10/10/2007, -2/+20Plus, a BSOD on that sign would have been a funnier picture than the WinXP boot screen.
- slippytoad, on 10/10/2007, -10/+28There are PC fanboys?
- PAJK, on 10/10/2007, -9/+26Yeh, probably before the store opens though..
- Stecchino, on 10/10/2007, -7/+23This whole thing is so immature. The comments and the story submitter must be 12.
- vandy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16It's an AT&T store, not an Apple Store.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -8/+24We all know all this pc vs mac ***** is being fuelled by those stupid apple commercials.
- toxicityj, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17If I take a picture of my computer while I'm rebooting it, does that mean i crashed it?
- Celeron, on 10/10/2007, -11/+26Next thing you will see, Microsoft employees running Linux on their systems.
- pwnies, on 10/10/2007, -5/+20(psst - that's not a hard thing to do, just fyi.)
- imanarchitect, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14I posted this on Gizmodo yesterday. Our frickin power went out at the AT&T store. It didn't HAVE to reboot, it needed to reboot because it lost power. Geez...
- lsatkins, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16Did you even look at the picture? I would be concerned if Apple put out a phone with a 32 inch display on it.
- scott12087, on 10/10/2007, -14/+27Not that I like to defend Microsoft or anything, but why does everybody keep laughing and saying it's rebooting. Who's to say it's not just starting up for the first time?
- mandrsn1, on 10/10/2007, -8/+20How many Digg posts are just copies word-for-word of the Gawker site they link to?
- my8bird, on 10/10/2007, -10/+22Where was the crash?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -7/+19Seeing as how they have 90% market share in the OS world, and Linux having even more share than Mac OSX..
- spyrochaete, on 10/10/2007, -5/+16Sorry, digg me down. I read the title but not the description so I assumed this was in an Apple store.
- MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12You haven't spent much time online have you? This stupid Mac vs Windows crap has been going on for much longer than a single ad campaign.
- gcope, on 10/10/2007, -22/+33On occasion, there will be an update that requires a full system reboot, but for the most part you only have to restart the updated app.
- compdude32, on 10/10/2007, -12/+23WHERE DOES IT SAY IT CRASHED!!!!!!!
Stupid Apple fanboys will say anything. - screwzluse, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12I hate to think that you formed such a retarded comment yourself but I'd hate to think that there are more than one of you around.
1.) Does it look worse that Windows rebooted or that a mac advert is NOT using the OS created by said company? I'm going to with the former.
2.) Macs need reboots. It happens. Get over it.
Windows is not some horrendous product and Mac OSX is the end all operating system. To each his own, my friend. -
