- Dagreenman, on 09/07/2008, -10/+100how about not making ipod touch owners pay for the upgrade? bastards.
- MrDoug, on 09/07/2008, -0/+67As long as they fix the speed of the "Contacts" interface, I'll be happy.
...then again, it's not like I'll do anything if they don't fix it. - modelchick8806, on 09/07/2008, -9/+63I'm drunk right now!
- thedragon4453, on 09/07/2008, -16/+63Fix the iphone interface. And seriously, I don't give a ***** what they add to iTunes as long as they make the Windows version a lot less *****.
- Rimher, on 09/07/2008, -6/+37iTunes 8 seems nice...but i don't want to download quicktime+safari again...
- inactive, on 09/07/2008, -1/+29I hope iTunes 8 doesn't fix the m4a to m4r ringtone hack for iPhone!
They've left that little loophole open for quite some time now. And I love it. - pyrates, on 09/06/2008, -12/+40So apple deliberately removed features from the iphone sdk beta so it would be a surprise? That is the one problem I have with Apple. They want everything kept so secret, that they will only test it inside apple so that when the firmware is released with the new features, we all become big beta testers for Apple so that when they release 2.1.1 or 2.1.2 it will actually be stable because the developers have gotten to test it. Isn't that what a lot of apple fanboi's usually say about a certain other company?
- dawnsindrum, on 09/07/2008, -1/+29By that logic, a whole generation of users who bought the 1st iPhone were betatesters for iPhone 3G.
...
Come to think of it, that makes sense. - Karmavs, on 09/07/2008, -1/+28That’s not the interface. But yeah.
- bluedragon1981, on 09/07/2008, -3/+20Crosses fingers in anticipation for cut, copy, & paste. Doubt that it'll happen, but hey, guy can hope right...
- Wazzuper1, on 09/07/2008, -2/+18You know, you don't have to download Safari right? Just uncheck the box next to the name when it prompts for an update + install?
But yeah...damn them for packaging iTunes + QT by default! (Who actually uses QT as a media player? Its so damn useless!) - kohoutec, on 09/07/2008, -0/+15or else...?
- stu3, on 09/07/2008, -3/+17All I can say is,
iPhone 2.1 better be released on Tuesday and it better fix every little bug that's been annoying people since launch before they even think about new features. - maxmidget, on 09/07/2008, -0/+13If it makes you feel better, it is incredibly easy to install the new firmware for free. Simply download the firmware (you can even do it straight from Apple if you find the link in the support section) and then option-click the restore button in iTunes and select the firmware file saved on your computer.
- jeffmon, on 09/07/2008, -0/+9I wish I was drunk too.
- joshualamgroup, on 09/07/2008, -0/+8you need hardware for that, you can't just "unlock it".
- keviniskool, on 09/07/2008, -0/+8You didn't spell it correctly. It's, "I'MM SOOOOOO DRUNK RIUGHT NOW!1!1!"
- CavemanUK, on 09/07/2008, -0/+8I only use it for embedded qt trailers and im pretty sure its used by itunes for video media/video podcasts etc..
- diggcommentguy, on 09/07/2008, -0/+7Well, since they've went as far as adding a "export ringtone to iTunes" button in GarageBand, I don't think they'll be removing this feature.
- antdude, on 09/07/2008, -2/+9Why can't Apple make patches?
- biofreak12, on 09/07/2008, -2/+9Hopefully iPhone will be getting notifications.... that would be awesome for aim.
- Balanced, on 09/07/2008, -0/+7iTunes uses Quicktime as a back end. Quicktime is a platform more than a player... It's an architecture for supporting multiple codecs and file formats easily.
- WaveRunningNakd, on 09/07/2008, -1/+7i'd like that too, but it's not going to happen because verizon uses CDMA, while the other 80% of the world uses GSM, which is the technology used in the iPhone.
- aliguana, on 09/07/2008, -0/+6if you use iTunes, you're using Quicktime. You don't have a choice. Which is fine on Macs, since their audio/video system IS Quicktime. On Windows, the whole Quicktime reliance is a bit pointless.
- rainbowjinjo, on 09/07/2008, -8/+14How is the iPhone interface broken, exactly?
- spiffywilco, on 09/07/2008, -0/+5I use quicktime for Final Cut Pro, After Effects, etc. It's kind of crucial to the whole video editing side of things. It's also nice for a really quick audio or short clip conversion. So in that respect, it's useful for a media player (especially for previewing something without loading a bloated program like final cut or itunes).
- jermm, on 09/07/2008, -1/+6OVER 9000!!
- tsnydermtg, on 09/07/2008, -1/+6iTunes subscription plan please.
- cerealjynx, on 09/07/2008, -0/+4My workaround is to get to the contacts list after going into phone mode. :/
- poorbusker, on 09/07/2008, -1/+5itunes subscription and video recording with uploading to youtube pleassee
- Proctor, on 09/07/2008, -0/+4Agreed with iTunes and Windows. I was forced to update on my mac with all of my music being on my windows box because iTunes wouldn't even load when using 7.6.
- Munceenuts, on 09/07/2008, -0/+4That was already confirmed for 2.1.
- lartones, on 09/07/2008, -0/+4hopefully this fixes the issue with safari closing out of the blue
- joshualamgroup, on 09/07/2008, -0/+3if you can't afford a banner space on digg, don't advertise!
- robzthird, on 09/07/2008, -1/+4Have fun.
- alightut, on 09/07/2008, -1/+4I wonder what color the new itunes icon will be?
- theokandroid, on 09/07/2008, -0/+3How does it screw up your library?
- jwdav, on 09/07/2008, -1/+4Patches require that everything being patched is in a known state and in a known location.
Apple often does patch OS X System files, but if you're modifying anything in "user" space, it's a lot safer to just install and configure what needs to be there, than to apply a patch that may or may not be stable. MS has this issue in spades with their registry setup. Apple would be making a mistake to assume that the user had not modified iTunes in any way, for example.
In the case of the iPhone system upgrades, you have reserved partitions for system and user data, plus, no knowledge of the current versions of software & firmware of each and every phone being updated - so it is more reliable to effectively re-image the system partition & apply current firmware to it. - Izacus, on 09/07/2008, -4/+7I wonder how many services will iTunes 8 install on Windows machines... 5? 8? Anyone wanna take a bet?
- UmbillicalEd, on 09/07/2008, -2/+5I hope "hidden feature" means "copy & paste"
- championchap, on 09/07/2008, -1/+4in my experience the keyboard lag is still there but the app crashes have stopped.
One thing i have noticed recently is that the apps keep reporting that they're out of memory.. even the ***** lolcats app! - McoreD, on 09/07/2008, -1/+4AlbumArtist view in Folder Browser please!
- spoonchucks, on 09/07/2008, -0/+2Or else we're just going to wait some more.
I don't like Apple lately... ***** Apple... - LumpOfCole, on 09/08/2008, -0/+2I've never used Windows Movie Maker so much
- eldridgea, on 09/08/2008, -1/+3It's pretty awesome if you have a mac I think, but I *hate* it on windows.
- psychomuso, on 09/07/2008, -0/+2and then we were told it wasn't happening. Someone tell Apple to make up their minds.
- stu3, on 09/07/2008, -0/+2Yeah same,
Its kind of like apple is just teasing you by having the contacts app there because it never seems to work properly. - inactive, on 09/09/2008, -0/+2"Apple is love.."
i'm speechless. - xxMarka, on 09/08/2008, -0/+2didn't it used to be purple?
- kajoob, on 09/07/2008, -0/+2Just use Audiko
