- megamod, on 09/09/2008, -4/+50is it just me or does he look really skinny?
Steve...not the iPod nano - StuartGibson, on 06/14/2009, -3/+21Or if you're Michael J Fox.
- asdfer, on 09/10/2008, -1/+17Just a shot in the dark, I'm pretty sure you can turn that feature off.
- Okari, on 09/09/2008, -1/+17I'm so glad they're bringing back a real green iPod instead of that 3G spearmint color.
- ryanhayn, on 09/10/2008, -0/+14It's not just you. Steve is taking this 'thinner is better' thing too far.
- shade45, on 09/09/2008, -6/+19I could see the shake to shuffle feature getting annoying when jogging.
- macpro2006, on 09/09/2008, -4/+13i dont think it looks that bad
- dan1101, on 09/10/2008, -0/+9Ugliest thing to come from Apple in a while.
- mikeal321, on 09/09/2008, -2/+11i think it looks suprisingly good actually...
- skoles, on 09/10/2008, -0/+8I'm pretty sure that shake to shuffle feature was available on some Sony Mp3 player first. I think it was some Sony/Ericson phone.
- cakerun, on 09/10/2008, -1/+9What the ***** kind of giraffes are you familiar with?
- heffsta, on 09/10/2008, -0/+8Thats not what she said
- jakem1, on 09/10/2008, -6/+14Because the proportions are wrong, the design is boring and done to death, the menu system is clunky. Digg me down if you like but IMO the Zunes look much more interesting than the new iPods.
Also, from a more practical point of view that curved screen will be terrible to use. It will probably reflect light no matter where you hold it. - SPARTACVS, on 09/10/2008, -0/+7Oh god, now I have this horrible but hilarious metal image of Michael J Fox holding his brand new nano and yelling *****! as it constantly switches songs on him. You're an *****...
- winampman2, on 09/10/2008, -0/+7its off when you put the nano on hold.
- thcobbs, on 09/10/2008, -0/+6"Unless Steve or his MD"
Don't you mean unless Steve? Doctors can't give out that info either. - raymccrae, on 09/10/2008, -0/+6Perhaps you'd prefer it if Steve strapped on a fat suit, jump up and down on stage and shouted "Developers, Developers, Developers" while sweating profusely.
- ers35, on 09/10/2008, -0/+6..."do people just buy new ones even though their old ones still work?"
Yes. - ross., on 09/10/2008, -3/+9Rumors of his death have been greatly exaggerated.
- MacParrot, on 09/10/2008, -0/+5The hard drive ones can break pretty easily if you aren't careful with them, but I've found that the flash based ones hold up pretty well. I gave my son my old 1st gen nano and he ended up putting it through the washing machine (13yo's seem to often have brain seizures when it comes to stuff they haven't bought personally). It finally dried out and after recharging seems to be ok.
- digitalpencil, on 09/10/2008, -0/+5ermm.. i'm with you, i.e. old-school nano and looks pretty cool but where do you get off requesting no negative feedback?!?
- blackinthmiddle, on 09/10/2008, -0/+5You're an ass, but that was a funny comment!
- logic6, on 09/10/2008, -0/+4He looks gaunt. The skin on his hand looks like he has lost weight recently, and knowing his previous health issues, I am sure his doctors are not suggesting he lose weight.
It is indeed worrying. I hope he is ok. - jakem1, on 09/10/2008, -0/+4Why? Is there a reason why negative opinions can't be expressed?
- uferoz, on 09/09/2008, -5/+9I don't know why everyone thinks the new nano is ugly.
- toonworld, on 09/10/2008, -1/+5didn't actually think I could laugh and feel guilty at the same time... so... thanks for the laugh but you're a bastard!
...dugg - MattBlackCat, on 09/10/2008, -0/+3They do it becuase it is their business model - they don't sell upgrades to exisiting products so if you want 'this years' new feature you have to buy the latest model and ditch your old one.
They are preying on peoples desires to have the 'latest' thing.
in that respect they are no different to any other business.

They manufature - advertise to your insecuritites and desires - and you consume.
GOTO START - SpeekEazy, on 09/10/2008, -1/+4Ok is it just me or are these features underwhelming compared to the new features announced for the zune. I mean seriously the flash zune has had a glass screen since day 1 same wide screen and now they are incorporating music streaming / channels / much more wifi capabilities (http://gizmodo.com/5046488/blue-8gb-zune-confirmed ... And ipod gets a shake to shuffle feature that gets a huge applause from the crowd. Seriously ... shake to shuffle ? Zune/iRiver/Sandisk may never have the consumers on lock like apple but the nano is still using old tricks when it could be doing so much more.
- ThirdPrize, on 09/10/2008, -0/+3As for the jumper tucked in the jeans look ... well.
- StuartGibson, on 06/14/2009, -0/+3I was more implying that those two would be the only ones that are privy to the information, I hadn't considered implications of patient confidentiality.
- SPARTACVS, on 09/10/2008, -1/+4Sup, Sony motion controller.
"Thank you for sharing this with us, Mr. Kutaragi, I think it's a fantastic innovation"- Phil Harrison, two weeks after the unveiling of the Wii-mote - Brows, on 09/10/2008, -1/+4Apple jumped the shark with this one.
- kidcodea, on 09/10/2008, -0/+3i could make a "your mom" joke now, but i'll pass.
- StuartGibson, on 06/14/2009, -2/+5Unless Steve or his MD are reading this, no. His private health is not public information, nor should it be.
- Karmavs, on 09/10/2008, -0/+3yes.
- saikyan, on 09/10/2008, -0/+3I still use my 15 gig 3rd gen iPod on a regular basis... that would be the one with the row of buttons under the display, from around 2003. I refuse to buy a new one until this one dies, despite all the shiny new features they've since added.
- shauncorleone, on 09/10/2008, -0/+3Some people do buy new ones regularly, but the lifespan of an iPod is unfortunately not forever. My 30GB 5th gen no longer holds a charge during video playback for longer than 5-6 minutes, and the audio playback battery life is not as long as it used to be.
Sure, I could send it back to Apple and get a replacement battery for $80, or I could look into getting a new iPod with some new features. This is the main reason I am likely getting a 32GB iPod Touch 2G for basically $100 more than I paid for my 5th Gen over 3 1/2 years ago. - RyanWilliams, on 09/10/2008, -0/+2You've not been able to in the past as far as I'm aware.
I've not understood why Apple hasn't implemented fully configurable EQ. They're a known innovator in the music space, yet they don't have this feature that can be found on any number of other mp3 devices (like my iriver).
For me it's literally a make-or-break feature because I like to tweak the EQ precisely to my headphones' imperfections. That's the whole point of EQ. I would genuinely like an iPod, but every single generation has turned me away because of this sore point. :/ - digitalpencil, on 09/10/2008, -0/+2^ your mom
- leif77, on 09/10/2008, -0/+2Does the new 120gig classic look the same as the previous gen... i havent seen any pics of it.
- rkho, on 09/09/2008, -3/+5YEAHHHH NEW IPODS! In for a 16GB Nano
- OasisR123, on 09/10/2008, -0/+2I have a 3rd gen. In my opinion its prettier that this new one.
sound quality is good, and the jack is standard (I think any kind of player as well), you can plug any headphones, I also connect it to the frontal Aux entrance of my car-stereo with a simple cable. - inactive, on 09/10/2008, -0/+2if the above is news to anyone, pull your head out of your ass
- roebeet, on 09/10/2008, -0/+2Haven't read anything about sound quality, yet......
- qbthemc, on 09/10/2008, -0/+2Microsoft stock went up 200%.
- BossKey, on 09/10/2008, -0/+2So you're saying they would have a problem making it taller, when they just got done making it a lot taller than the last one? That's almost like saying people aren't going to buy widescreen TVs because they'd take up more space. Putting a 16:9 on the nano is the right thing to do and still won't make it thinner than my original iPod shuffle. It will probably be done eventually.
- 0260, on 09/09/2008, -3/+5still can't beat my D2
- roebeet, on 09/10/2008, -1/+3D2 sound quality is EXCELLENT.
- thephosphorbox, on 09/10/2008, -0/+2Who are they marketing these things to? Doesn't just about everyone who wants an iPod already have one? Do they break that fast.. or do people just buy new ones even though their old ones still work?
I've had the same 30gb player for almost 2 years.. still works like the day it was new.. I don't get it. -
