Official: HBO now on iTunes
engadget.com — Episodes of Rome and The Sopranos pop for $2.99 while The Wire and Sex and the City (yes the complete series) go for the iTunes "standard" pricing of $1.99. We just fired-up iTunes and confirmed it just like the rumor predicted. With Apple backing down from its strict, flat-rate pricing...

- nobodynoes, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1I love the wire, but I won't buy it on itunes. When I got The shield from Itunes the quality was *****.

- solid12345, on 05/14/2008, -1/+3"Where do you get off, you sick little twist? Sexual? I'm not sexual with them. I'm not abusive with them, how dare you write that in your paper without knowing nothing about me, biting's not sex, it's biting! I'm not sick like that. Maybe I should come bite you, would you like that, scotty? I bet you would like that, I am right? You write about me like I'm sick. You're the sick one, you know that? Is that why you like me, scotty? Is that why? I could come bite you; you tell me how sexual it is. You humiliate me like that? You mortify me like that in front of my father? My father's father? Listen to me, smack daddy, crack daddy, little baby whack daddy, here's what's happening. You ain't never going to find them anymore. You aint never gonna see them no more. I'm sending you something right now, You take a good look at this guy, because you ain't ver going to see him no more.
- PhilliesBlunt, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1Nice Bawlmore accent.
- tmofee, on 05/13/2008, -2/+10Yeah, great for you North Americans. Australia has SFA on the tv shows/movie side of itunes. I'd love to see The Wire myself.
- darealwiggum, on 05/13/2008, -0/+0The Canadian iTunes store has a pretty weak section on TV shows actually.
- Tenoq, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1I'd be more concerned about the price. $1.69 for a song? WTF is up with that? In case you didn't notice, Apple, Australian dollar buys 95 US cents these days. Anything more than $1.05 for a song is a rip off. :p
- stenk, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1Well if the Australian iTunes is anything like the New Zealand store then we do not have any content for TV or Movies.
- rickcarson, on 05/13/2008, -0/+14Absolutely agree with tmofee. Why iTMS is so anaemic outside of the US just shows how messed up the **AA systems are. If I made TV shows in the US, and consumers in Europe said to me "here, lets us give you money" I wouldn't turn around to them and extend ze middel finguer and tell zem "non, your filthey monay ez not good enough for moi".
That said, there's a lot of other (older) content I'd pay good money for - Blake's 7 for starters. But not if its going to cost more than it would to buy it on DVD (another example of **AA retardation).
I know that the **AA guys do provide a valuable service - they are basically the equivalent of venture capitalists. And just look at what being on an iPod commercial can do for an artist for instance - the right kind of exposure can make an enormous difference. BUT. Can someone please stick a fork in the current generation of turkeys running the show because by golly, they're done.- HoratioHellpop, on 05/13/2008, -2/+1If you were in the US, why would you be speaking French?
- ErikHK, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1dugg for extremely tacky and badly done french accent :)
- rickcarson, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1Huh. I was sure I'd get knee-jerk dugg down for saying that the **AA guys provide a service.
- Coolmatt49, on 05/13/2008, -4/+7Pricing seems fair for the Sopranos. After all, each show is an hour long.
- Dignan666, on 05/13/2008, -2/+32.99 x 13 episodes = 39 bucks a season (usually)
For 10 bucks more, I'd buy the dvd set and have a nice hard copy to do with as i please, including sell it back to someone when i get bored. Anyone who buys into digital distribution is playing directly into the big media corporation's hands. Stop buying digital media now.- BryanJK, on 05/13/2008, -1/+4I agree, but I like digital media for two reasons:
1. I get it instantly instead of having it shipped
2. It can lay on my HDD and I can open it whenever I need to (such as on a media center television) and not have to get up from the couch just to start a movie
But I do see your point, if you ever need to make some money you could always sell it to someone else- Dignan666, on 05/13/2008, -0/+4Just to be a pain in the ass, if i ordered all 7 seasons of the sopranos from amazon prime, and you downloaded them, i might get mine before you...
- Tenoq, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1Especially if he's on Comcast.
- BryanJK, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1that is a good point, but then again I'm probably not going to be watching them all at once :P

- ruddy, on 05/13/2008, -6/+2Sex and the City for teenage boys? hopefully not on itunes. Seriously, that show is as ***** as it gets.
- vault, on 05/14/2008, -3/+1In the trash where it belongs.
- solid12345, on 05/14/2008, -2/+2All the negative people in this thread are just pissed seeing a show where they get jealous about other people's lifestyle.
- vault, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1Yeah because I want to be just like a douchebag actor from Queens.
- Aleman360, on 05/13/2008, -3/+23Do yourself a favor and check out Flight of the Conchords.

- daborg, on 05/13/2008, -0/+4That can be arranged.
- ace144, on 05/13/2008, -1/+2seeing them tomorrow in Chicago, with Arj Barker opening. I'm so pumped i got a ticket, they sold out in like 4 minutes.
- Aleman360, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1Saw them in Milwaukee on Sunday night, they were great. Arj Barker was hilarious too.
- bjs3171, on 05/13/2008, -1/+2check out Bear vs. Shark. A movie out last summer with one of the Conchords.

- rockandrollmark, on 05/13/2008, -7/+14Nice. Now I can pay for the stuff I Already have downloaded
- EntropyFan, on 05/13/2008, -1/+2And it will be crippled with DRM, also.
Sounds like a winner.
I love how everyone on Digg 'hates' DRM, just to turn a blind eye and support iTunes.
- EntropyFan, on 05/13/2008, -1/+2And it will be crippled with DRM, also.
- mehan, on 05/13/2008, -13/+16Official: it's all been out on torrents forever, with a flat rate price of "free".
- HillerMylife, on 07/24/2008, -6/+15Small disclaimer: Illegal
- SweetJones, on 05/13/2008, -7/+5Movies may be illegal. Music may be illegal. TV Shows? Once a TV show airs is it public domain? It's a gray line but people have had no problems recording TV shows since the days of the VCR. I don't find TV torrents to be any different from recording a TV show with a VCR or a DVR. Or is it just because it is HBO? If it was network television which is free to all, would it be OK to download those shows? These are all questions that have to be answered before you go around calling something illegal.
- RudeTurnip, on 05/13/2008, -2/+8There is no gray area. If a TV show airs it is not in the public domain. The producer still has distribution rights as the copyright holder. Broadcasting is a distribution method, the same as selling the DVD or selling the show on iTunes. Someone else distributing (ie uploading) it via torrent is not legal. Recording a TV show is not illegal if it's for personal use; you're not distributing it. HBO is a pay service, but that doesn't give them any more or less rights wrt distribution.
- VLSI1981, on 05/13/2008, -2/+2Jaywalking is illegal too.
- Tenoq, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1I've been booked. No, really.
- dmark77, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1It depends on what country you live in, and if the copyright reaches that far.

- colincornaby, on 05/13/2008, -10/+3Official: Most torrents have crap for crap quality the day after airing.
- gimmeslack12, on 05/13/2008, -5/+6Official: Anyone with half a brain can find high-quality TV shows as torrents. Though it is illegal, I have little moral problems with it.
- HoratioHellpop, on 05/13/2008, -3/+1Official:: Thus the base problem with secular hedonism.
- gimmeslack12, on 05/13/2008, -0/+3I don't know what that is, therefore I choose to ignore it.
EDIT: I googled it and although it vaguely changes my mind it's now noted. I also eat lots of candy whenever I want.

- CoolMinded, on 05/13/2008, -1/+2Two reasons why I when with the torrent: 1. The prices on itunes suck 2. Get foreign content without signing up to download other countries music and TV shows (for me the show would be "Britain's Got Talent")

- RudeTurnip, on 05/13/2008, -1/+8There is a lot of stuff from the History Channel, Discovery and Nickelodeon that's been $2.99 - $3.99 for a while. It's typically stuff that's 90 minutes or longer. Slightly higher prices for lengthier programming from Apple is not new...this is the MSM's spin on Apple taking a blow somehow.
- chesscat, on 05/13/2008, -2/+2World domination is getting closer. All hail Steve.
- spiggot123, on 05/13/2008, -0/+4it's not where's entourage...where's Arli$$. remember that show? that's where sandra oh made it big!
- Conwaysb0718, on 05/13/2008, -0/+3sandra oh... that face is where boners go to die.
- bjs3171, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1I remember it, and I remembered that asian chick was from it when I first saw a Grey's Anatomy commercial. I'll take Entourage, though.
- DigDugDigger, on 05/13/2008, -0/+3No Bill Maher. The only thing I like on HBO isn't on iTunes. :(
- MrQuoz, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1They have a free audio podcast. Subscribe to it.
- MikeFallopian, on 05/13/2008, -1/+2Funny, Bill Maher is one of the few things I don't like on HBO...
- LaweranceOak, on 05/13/2008, -0/+3HBO has made it to iTunes when Entourage rolled up.
- nemonik, on 05/13/2008, -1/+2Plain stupid pricing... Get a Blockbuster Online/NetFlix membership and rent them in a month for $20...
- mentalfoto, on 05/13/2008, -0/+3I predict lackluster sales.
- xtinamo, on 05/13/2008, -1/+5Just thinking about Rome makes me wet.
- ultraJesus, on 05/13/2008, -1/+1gross
- solid12345, on 05/14/2008, -0/+2So you got wet seeing Polly Walker walking out of that bath with her burning red bush?
- plopper, on 05/13/2008, -5/+5These shows cost $0.00 at http://eztv.it
- NecroDigg, on 05/13/2008, -6/+4I'm pretty sure you can get tv shows from BitTorrent sites for free. Why waste $3?
- Beatmiser, on 05/13/2008, -0/+3This is great, but I really need Rome and Deadwood on BluRay. Chop Chop HBO.
- MikeFallopian, on 05/13/2008, -1/+0I like my Deadwood nice and low-res. Makes it feel grittier, if that's even possible.
- SPARTACVS, on 05/13/2008, -0/+2Why the ***** was Rome cancelled? It was a damn good show, and I'm not just talking about the HBO-standard excessive bare boobs. Sure, that might've been what you came for, but you stayed for the excellent character development. I know that it can't be brought back for obvious (and spoliery) reasons, but that can't stop me from being nostalgic. :D
- MikeFallopian, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1It was an awesome show, to be sure. It was also hugely expensive - something like 100 million was spent on the first season - and it never found enough of an audience to justify the costs. A real shame. I don't think I've ever cheered harder than when Vorenus climbed into the arena to save Pullo.
- solid12345, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1Money mainly, and Rome actually did decent in the ratings, first episode of the 1st season was a hit I believe.
- bloodguard, on 05/13/2008, -0/+5As others have stated Apple's pricing is way out of line with the market. Assuming 4 episodes per DVD and 3 DVDs a week I can watch 48 episodes for ~$17 at netflix VS $143 on iTunes. Add in special features like cast/director commentary and it makes iTunes offering look rather shabby.
- wautrey, on 05/13/2008, -1/+2You're not PURCHASING the programs via NetFlix, you are via itunes. There's quite a bit of a difference there.
- bloodguard, on 05/13/2008, -0/+2Yeah but I can pop episodes back into my queue anytime and as many times as I want. It's like a offsite backup with 100,000 dvds where I can get a one back in about 2 days.
With iTunes I have to download and backup all these episodes (200mb an episode?). No backup and you lose the original? You're most likely fecked unless you plead for a one time indulgence from Steve to be able to redownload.

- mrkslntbob, on 05/14/2008, -1/+2No, it's renting with iTunes. Your bound to the whim of Apple's DRM restrictions. Ask someone who bought from the MSN music store how happy they are with their "purchase" now.
- wautrey, on 05/13/2008, -1/+2You're not PURCHASING the programs via NetFlix, you are via itunes. There's quite a bit of a difference there.
- whalt, on 05/13/2008, -0/+2If they had done this a few years ago they would have made a few hundred dollars off of me. Instead I went to torrent sites and they got nothing. Better late than never though. Now where are the downloads for John Adams?
- skellener, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1You can listen to Real Time with Bill Maher for free through iTunes.
http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/ ...
Not really much to watch anyway. Just people sitting around and talking. I hope this doesn't mean the free podcast will go away. - solid12345, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1I'm just pissed Carnivale was cancelled with a cliffhanger, and personal to me it was nice to see a main character from Oklahoma who was not a dumb hillbilly.
- Jlaw09, on 05/14/2008, -3/+5What about the Pirate Bay?
- plopper, on 05/14/2008, -2/+3The Pirate Bay currently offers a 100% discount on all shows.
- TheTruthReadIt, on 05/14/2008, -0/+0The Apple monopoly is ridiculous. You all need to go support other (legitimate) digital retailers and hardware manufactures so that Apple does not dictate what digital content you are allowed to buy, how much you should pay for it and what device you should watch it on. If you can create an actual marketplace besides iTunes for digital content including music, you'll have actual competition that will set a fair market price and even promotions that will allow you to get it at cheaper than the market price.
Think about it. You know it's true.
You can start by buying Zunes, Sony Walkman devices or Creative devices and buying your music at Amazon.
Supporting the iPod / iTunes monopoly is the worst things you could do for other consumers and yourself. Down with the monopoly! - tmcdigg, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1Screw Apple, and for that matter, Screw HBO also..
anything cable tv produces today is junk, the prices are a ripoff.. just up apple's alley stop making these corporations richer and richer, stop it I tell you! - puithove, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1It's way past time to have iTunes TV shows in HD. This just adds on to that. Movie purchases in HD would also be nice instead of just rentals.
