Engadget's contribution is significant as per usual. - Ty1erDurd3n, on 03/17/2008, -2/+24Im not sharing my hard earned porn with anyone
- sodypop77, on 03/17/2008, -0/+20I'm glad to see they haven't dropped out on AirTunes. Perhaps there's still hope of an AirTunes equipped iPod Touch. The Touch already has wireless and think of how sweet would it be to stream music from your iPod directly to your home stereo. No wires and no remote required to flip through songs.
- lolinyerface, on 03/17/2008, -4/+19What the hell is this 'connect up to 10 users' crap?
- sodypop77, on 03/17/2008, -0/+12To clarify, the speed increase would only apply to your local network (LAN) and only improve file transfer speeds between local computers. It would not increase your bandwidth for your Internet connection, unless you happen to have a greater than 54 Mbps connection, which you don't.
Unless you are frequently moving large amounts of data between your computers then there is no reason to upgrade, especially since your 802.11b/g is working fine. - TomFrost, on 03/17/2008, -1/+13It's totally prettier that way.
- Grogtron, on 03/17/2008, -1/+10Engadget's regurgitation is significant as per usual.
Fixed that for you. - brufleth, on 03/17/2008, -0/+9Probably wouldn't make your wireless situation any better. Especially if you're not having any issues.
- frazw, on 03/17/2008, -1/+9If you haven't noticed issues then the only reason would be for speed.
However, this is still only draft-n and therefore personally I would wait until it is officially n. - katorga, on 03/17/2008, -1/+8There is so much Draft-N equipment in the field at this point, that Draft-N IS N. I can't see them radically changing the spec now. It is just too late.
- bornfreeid, on 03/17/2008, -0/+7Surprising introductory price-point from Apple and definitely has taken longer than expected.
- boxlight, on 03/17/2008, -0/+7Am I the only one that didn't know Airport Express could work as a straight up wireless router?
I thought the Express was specifically for extending an existing wireless network to send audio wirelessly from iTunes to your rec room stereo. I didn't know it would work simply as your primary wireless router.
I bought a $199 Airport Extreme base station a while back because I wanted the Apple router. Wish I knew I could have picked up the Express instead to do the same job. - inactive, on 03/17/2008, -0/+7Who said it was innovative?
- logic6, on 03/17/2008, -0/+6Yes, it can be used as a bridge, no problem.
- logic6, on 03/17/2008, -0/+6Dude, please tell me you knew that humidity stat off the top of your head.
- cubeeggs, on 03/17/2008, -0/+6The AirPort Extreme allows for 50 computers instead of 10, has 4 Ethernet ports (1 WAN, 1 LAN) instead of 1, has Gigabit Ethernet and supports connecting a hard drive to be shared on the network. The AirPort Express has the music sharing thing, and can be operated at 20%-90% humidity instead of 20%-80%.
- stellarceltic, on 03/17/2008, -2/+8n00b question...
Would it benefit someone to upgrade from b/g to n if it was just being used in an average sized house? I haven't really noticed any issues with b/g. - robbh66, on 03/17/2008, -1/+6your macbook didn't suddenly become n, it was n and once you had a n network it started using it instead of g.
aside from that, n is not a firmware update over g- it's different hardware. - masgrada, on 03/17/2008, -0/+5Woah, you're so right with your up to date 2006 article.
- lateralus, on 03/17/2008, -0/+5Except with Chris Hansen....
"Why don't you have a seat over there.." - spider418, on 03/17/2008, -1/+6No, there is another guy, but he takes it a step further and just doesn't click on apple related stories. Weird huh?!
- r00fus, on 03/17/2008, -0/+5Yes
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108 ... - FoxOrian, on 03/17/2008, -2/+7I was planning on buying one of these the other week. I thought to myself "Knowing apple this is gonna be suddenly updated to 802.11n within the next few months." Good thing I waited.
- dizilbdog, on 03/17/2008, -0/+5How about a way to use my iphone to control the music from the airport express using my powered speakers??
- jer2eydevil88, on 03/17/2008, -1/+5Buried your comment as all the big name companies are supporting Draft N as if it was the final revision (so you might as well refer to it as such).
- compdude32, on 03/17/2008, -1/+5It is still a draft. your comment is perhaps the stupidest thing I have seen in a long time.
- jer2eydevil88, on 03/17/2008, -6/+10Bose = All marketing and hype with lousy products
Apple = All hype with fair to incredible products
I see nothing similar aside from the hype they generate. - cubeeggs, on 03/17/2008, -0/+4They actually started in 2006.
- puter, on 03/17/2008, -0/+4I have no idea why you're getting dugg down for a valid comment.
- stellarceltic, on 03/17/2008, -1/+5But will that ***** meme ever go away?
- xtremesniper, on 03/17/2008, -0/+3Apple's specs say draft 2.0.
- logicbus, on 03/17/2008, -1/+4I got the new Apple keyboard yesterday and I love it. I use Windows at work and using a Windows keyboard at home on Mac OS always bugged me. Also, the new Apple keyboard has a very small footprint, which is important on a cluttered desktop.
- DarkDx, on 03/17/2008, -0/+3At 99$ I prefer to buy it and experience faster speeds right now than waiting a full year from now. Don't worry, when they release final N it will only require a firmware update for all N products, (very important note: at least how things are going on right now, if they decide to change the frequency N works (like A worked 5ghz) to a total-new frequency (7.5, 22,5, 500ghz what ever) then it WILL require a new device or only if they change drastically the specs, meanwhile, not)
- dyranios2, on 03/17/2008, -0/+3And all their products will be obsolete if their hardware isn't upgradable to the finalised spec
- colincornaby, on 03/17/2008, -0/+3I like the new Apple keyboard design more than the old. Sure, the keys get a bit of getting used to, but the keyboard is thin, and it feels very solid. Overall I like it. (I actually have two, my Mac Pro came with one and I bought one for work.)
- Eminemdrdre00, on 03/17/2008, -6/+9Continue the speculation of new iMacs tomorrow, and every other Tuesday until they finally arrive!
- dizilbdog, on 03/17/2008, -0/+3Yeah I don't have a treo didn't know they made those anymore...
- coldfusion1970, on 03/17/2008, -0/+3Sounds like you want the Apple TV.
This is a different product for a different space. - robbh66, on 03/17/2008, -0/+3It's a stupid meme, and your reply is a stupid comeback.
- fanboydcs, on 03/17/2008, -2/+5cool but I wish it had one more ethernet port, but it works perfectly as an 802.11n upgrade to my existing router..
- masgrada, on 03/17/2008, -0/+3Can it be used like a bridge?
- luchid, on 03/18/2008, -1/+3It's an Airport Express. It's mainly aimed at being an extender with audio streaming capabilities. If you want the full fledged deal try an Airport Extreme or Time Capsule.
- flashx, on 03/17/2008, -0/+2Yes it does. I have a 802.11g model that is using WDS client mode to connect to my DD-WRT Linksys WRT-54GL. Bridges nicely if you have an existing WDS capable base.
- akuzemchak, on 03/17/2008, -0/+2crap. i just bought one of these on friday. but is it really worth dealing with circuit city for an exchange that they probably won't understand?
- inactive, on 03/17/2008, -0/+2They'll release firmware updates.
- dougbarrett, on 03/17/2008, -0/+2I doubt that Circuit City already has them in stock for you to be able to make an exchange.
- DarkDx, on 03/17/2008, -0/+2http://www.iospirit.com/index.php?mode=view&obj_ty ...
Sorry for the long link
YOu still need a computer with itunes, I wish they had "airtunes for iphone" (no need for computer), that would be awesome. - imcquill, on 03/17/2008, -0/+2remote buddy does that already.
- weizilla, on 03/17/2008, -0/+2tell them it's broken and exchange for the new model?
