- chris9902, on 11/15/2007, -22/+79so a new product is outselling one that has been out for a year now? well I am ***** shocked!
- CraigJ, on 11/15/2007, -9/+45I'm all for Windows getting some serious competition, but I have to believe that this is simply a spike due to the Leopard release
- johnhummel, on 11/15/2007, -5/+30I'm going to bet this is a temporary thing, like when the PSP outsells the DS when a new hot version comes out. But it is an interesting moment for Apple - in one major country, they're been able to dethrone Microsoft in sales for 1 month.
I'd be shocked if it continued - but let's give credit where credit is due: Apple's made a lot of changes over the last decade, come out with some very solid products. Yes, the same complaints about price and fanboys are still there - but Apple has continually done better each quarter.
Now, if they can just release a cheap Mac Pro that I can dual use as an OS X box and dual-boot Windows machine for gaming, I'd be set.... - BossKey, on 11/15/2007, -3/+21Wasn't this already on the front page yesterday? I mean I like Macs and all, but...
- inactive, on 11/14/2007, -5/+17I have two copies of ubuntu for both my computers because windows sucks ass.
- Jimzip, on 11/15/2007, -7/+17"Mac OS X sales increased from 15.5 to 60.5 percent year-over-year, while Windows suffered a sudden drop from 75.3 to 28.7 percent over the same period."
Actually that is kinda impressive.. digg me down. Go on, but know that I love you.
Jimzip :D - JasonCox, on 11/14/2007, -3/+13Dugg only because even Leopard has to be selling better than the PS3.
- Ramble, on 11/14/2007, -3/+13You have to be extremely stupid to not understand what he is talking about, you might as well kill yourself now to stop natural selection doing the work for you.
- benchwarmer, on 11/14/2007, -1/+10"How can we expect these children to learn to read if they can't even fit inside the building!?"
- SteaminTmann, on 11/15/2007, -10/+17Does anyone actually BUY windows anyway?
The real question should be, which torrents are better seeded... - Coffeedemon, on 11/14/2007, -1/+7Out of everyone who uses windows in the world how many people feel compelled to go out and get the newest version when its available? For that matter how many actually pay for it in a store? Judging by the normal response to any new Apple product announcement buying a new iPod, Macbook or version of the OS is done as frequently as buying a new supply of socks.
- chazuk, on 11/15/2007, -7/+13I have 2 fully licenced copies of vista for both of my computers because I ain't a thieving scumbag.
- LoaTao, on 11/14/2007, -3/+8Subjective rankings: 8 negative posts, 2 insightful comments, 2 neutral posts. This is why I hardly ever look at digg comments.
- unknownsoldierX, on 11/14/2007, -0/+5Read it again, dumbass. OCTOBER Leopard sales. Not sales overall .
- Lionhart, on 11/14/2007, -2/+7He was referring to it outselling Windows because Leopard is a new release and Vista has been out for a while. And yeah, you're an idiot.
- lostboy, on 11/14/2007, -1/+6We do? Please enlighten us as I am personally in the dark. The only comment I would make about the Japanese technology market is that they tend to show a marked preference for Japanese Software/Hardware - However when talking Operating Systems Windows tends to be universal.
- youareretarded, on 11/14/2007, -1/+6What kind of insightful comment were you hoping to find about a "non" story?
- lharrod, on 11/15/2007, -0/+4"Well, the Jerk Store called, and they're out of YOU!"
- lharrod, on 11/15/2007, -0/+4"chazuk" rules, even though he's a Vista dude and I am a Mac fanboy. Of all the software to use cracked, I never use a cracked OS. You're asking for trouble. Plus, I, too, am not a thieving scumbag.
- lostboy, on 11/14/2007, -0/+4I personally can't wait to stop being an Apple Fanboy so I can bitch about them being an evil conglomerate with a Monopoly, but I'll have to wait a bit longer. Oh well, back to M$ bashing.
(please, please, the dollar sign was sarcastic for all you clever clogs) - lostboy, on 11/14/2007, -0/+3I am happy to admit I haven't bought Windows since I got an OEM version with a P2 233 back in the day. When it is so easy to download them, I find it hard not to. However these days I can preach because I have been running Ubuntu for a while. Of course I still have an illegal iso of xp professional which I installed as a virtual machine. It feels kind of obligatory to pirate MS products for some reason.
- newbill123, on 11/14/2007, -0/+3Of the two dozen or so I know who have bought a copy of Windows with personal money, the overwhelming majority are Mac users buying it to use with Parallels, VMWare, or Boot Camp.
- notfred, on 11/14/2007, -0/+3I was just over there, and at the large electronics chains, they had centrally located booths with guys demonstrating OS X to groups of people. I think the sales are due to the big visibility, since it first came out. Uh, plus the fact that Vista is old news, now.
- ronaldmonster, on 11/14/2007, -0/+2Windows XP was fine, they could have just released another service pack and called it a day, but they had to be greedy.
- lharrod, on 11/15/2007, -0/+2Good point.
- randysouth, on 11/14/2007, -0/+2So what you're saying is, Leopard is Big in Japan
- sexybobo, on 11/14/2007, -0/+2h+tt(p://(-en(.wikip=edia.org(/wi+ki/AI)DS_d)ementia+_complex
I can break links by adding useless items in them as well "hint (parentheses) break links posted on digg there is no reason to have them and it is annoying to have to change the url so i can follow the link. The bad thing is i have seen you post many links that do not work because of parentheses do you never try your own links to see if they work or are you just to stupid to realize it is the parentheses that break the link. - ronaldinho, on 11/14/2007, -2/+4I'm not surprised. Seriously most of you have checked out Leopard, right? If I needed a new computer, I would immediately buy Leopard. The graphs are slick and its applications (Aperture, Final Cut Pro, etc.) are excellent.
- sexybobo, on 11/14/2007, -0/+2Some one has obviously never watched pirates of silicon valley,
- Shiftgood, on 11/15/2007, -2/+3i dont think they get it.
- timusca, on 11/14/2007, -0/+1What are you trying to say? That AIDS are old news?
- skidooer, on 11/14/2007, -1/+2Yes, he does have a daughter: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lisa_Brennan-Jobs
- killtherebel, on 11/15/2007, -6/+7That is because it was just released! Why would this be impressive? Core2Duos are also outselling Pentium IIIs. Amazing.
- naonao, on 11/15/2007, -2/+3It's not so much rising as doing consistently badly.
- Kanidia, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1Maybe mac users are just loyal honest people (I'm not a mac fanboy though...)
*ducks* - flux1, on 11/14/2007, -1/+2This was interesting when it was on the front page yesterday.
- bean48009, on 11/14/2007, -2/+3I still think Steve Jobs needs to run for President....or better yet have his daughter date me. Does he have a daughter?
- lharrod, on 11/15/2007, -2/+3It's impressive because MS rules the world by a landslide. For any other company to even compete with them, much less outpace them in sales, is goddamn impressive. Apple did it against their number one product, their OS.
- lharrod, on 11/15/2007, -1/+2Are you kidding? Japan is like a techie haven. Of course it matters. If you and I made wine (the beverage, not the em.) and your wine outsold mine in Napa Valley, that would be really really impressive.
- vacuum2440, on 11/14/2007, -1/+2already on here yesterday, buried
- sabor, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1I do think it's newsworthy...it does say something about the market. If this was due to the fact that Leopard was just released, then how come the same thing did not happen in every other country?
- Kanidia, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1Because pirating from MS "just works". Macs only "just work" if they're legal.
- joshcxa, on 11/15/2007, -2/+3James! I still like you, even if you are a mac fanboy!
- zang74, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1That's why their phones, cameras, home electronics are light years ahead of the western world? They're not concerned with horsepower? Give me a break.
- llamakoolaid, on 11/14/2007, -2/+2This is absolutely absurd. THE PRODUCT JUST CAME OUT?!
- JadeFox, on 11/15/2007, -0/+0Where in his comment did he make an AIDS reference?
- Ireland, on 11/14/2007, -1/+1No, it was in the Apple section, it took some time to reach the front.
- EvilWalksWithMe, on 11/14/2007, -2/+2Oh *****... Apple outsells Microsoft in the most Anti microsoft nation on the ***** planet. I'm horrorfied. not.
- mp93, on 11/15/2007, -0/+0I love how you comparing Vista to a Pentium III
- elementfire, on 11/14/2007, -1/+1Sales in Japan is only an interesting metric if at least one of the compared entities is based there. For example,
Microsoft vs. Sony consoles -> Interesting
Martha Stewart Brand vs. Ikea dinnerware? Not so much. -
