- inactive, on 12/20/2007, -24/+159Stacks wasn't really broke to me.
- godofpumpkins, on 12/20/2007, -4/+79Sometimes I wish that digg had a "whoever posted this comment is really ***** stupid" button, as well as an offensive button. Then it would post your overall "really ***** stupid" points in your profile, and eventually automatically bury your comments on topics (but let people digg them up if they felt they were worthy, while still not wasting as much space as they would otherwise)
Not that I'm implying anything about you or your comment , nape ;) - andnever, on 12/20/2007, -7/+77you're dumb
- Bhima, on 12/20/2007, -2/+36I had vairation of this thought: I wish we could shoot paint balls at the cars of bad drivers. This way you could sterr clear of the really colourful ones.
- nixfu, on 12/20/2007, -2/+36>Start Menu
Was first used on UNIX before Windows in CDE, VUE, NextStep and others, back when Windows was using the program manager still. - anagramarama, on 12/20/2007, -1/+32Apple, if you're reading this, please also allow a fanned stack to be sorted by most recently used (for apps)
thx. - spargett, on 12/20/2007, -4/+30I've wanted the ability to just open the folder by clicking on it, without having to use an alias (which you can't drag files into). Is that too much to ask for?
All it has to be is a preference and everyone is happy. - anagramarama, on 12/20/2007, -1/+26I like the fan view, but now I've grown dependent on quick look, I'm continually annoyed that I can't quick look items in a fan, say mouse over and then use the spacebar.
Why is this functionality missing. At first I thought it might be something to do with focus, but when the fanned stack loses focus, it slides back into the dock, so it's not focus.
I'd also appreciate a little subtle mouseover highlighting.
Didn't use the list option in tiger, so I didn't miss it in Leopard (I prefer keyboard shortcuts to mousey ones)
Oh... also just noticed that my post submitted in safari, well done for fixing that guys. - KSUdesigner, on 12/20/2007, -4/+28It worked before this. Now it just works better.
- golfreak17, on 12/20/2007, -2/+23Files in the "Stacks" need to be right-clickable!
- The_Larch, on 12/20/2007, -10/+28I hate it in its current form. I think we lost functionality compared to the way folders used to work. And apparently, Apple agrees.
:) - MacParrot, on 12/20/2007, -3/+17You got buried for being an unoriginal troll. Every Mac thread that describes OS X or Mac hardware fixes brings out a comment exactly like yours.
you=fail - lorductape, on 12/20/2007, -2/+15The only useful stack is the downloads stack, something I use daily; everything else, I want to click and have the folder open. This enables...?
- luchid, on 12/20/2007, -2/+12What? The stacks "issue" is not a bug, not a programming error, not a security vulnerability, it's just that people disagreed with Apple's design strategy regarding how Stacks work.
Besides I'm glad Apple listens to their customers, unlike Microsoft who's been asked countless times (by industry and customers) to remove WGA and it's thousands of hooks into Vista and still refuses to do so. - coreyb, on 12/20/2007, -2/+12Go troll somewhere else
- bobbyi, on 12/20/2007, -2/+12I believe the term for that system is "slashdot".
- soopafly, on 12/20/2007, -2/+11Congratulations!! You've won the "Stupidest Comment of the Day" award.
- Flashman, on 12/20/2007, -3/+12Hooray if true. Leopard broke my Dock-based organisational scheme so here's hoping it really is fixed.
- Seekhey, on 12/20/2007, -1/+9Open Terminal and paste
defaults write com.apple.dock persistent-others -array-add '{ "tile-data" = { "list-type" = 1; }; "tile-type" = "recents-tile"; }'
Then killall Dock. You have a recent things stack, which you can right click on and select "Recent Applications". - HalBSure, on 12/20/2007, -1/+9Or shoot them at rude people and then avoid everyone who looks like a clown.
- weareglass, on 12/20/2007, -1/+8I highly doubt Apple agrees, but what it appears is that Apple is going to allow people who do feel that way to be happy with the way Stacks works too. Which, if you ask me, is a smart idea. Give people a new way to do things, but don't take away the old, everybody works differently.
- jmlambe, on 12/20/2007, -0/+5Truspect0r,
I really never understood you 'trolls.' In lieu of providing relevant statistics or general trends, you make snide comments, rely on anecdotal evidence, and use the silly disadvantages and advantages that each camp (mac and PC) hold to believe. I just don't understand the point of trolling, can you illuminate me? Your comment(s) bring nothing productive to the discussion, nor relevant to this post. So why post to begin? If this is a pro-Mac article and you want to preach some anti-mac speech, do it on something about Windows 7 or some *****. BOOOOOO-URNS - lochness, on 12/20/2007, -6/+11I was wrrrr.. I was wrrro... I was wrrrron... (Steve "Fonzie" Jobs)
- Phisolo, on 12/20/2007, -0/+5I always (even pre 10.5) put the utilities folder in the dock. This would solve that issue for you.
- TastyLamp, on 12/20/2007, -3/+8But it's not MS. So quiet you. Can't we discuss a new software update without going into another Mac vs PC debate? We have enough of those on Digg.
- richthomas, on 12/20/2007, -3/+7ZING!
- fabioromeu, on 12/20/2007, -5/+9Ok, this update essentially assumes that stacks are useless. I mean, you could have list view in Tiger already, and Leopard just gave us two fancy views to play with. Now, where is the original stack feature? I mean, i was hoping to grab a bunch of files from different folders, drag them to the Dock and see a stack form, and not creating a lot of new icons for each freakin' file. Bring that back, Apple!
- calgone, on 12/20/2007, -1/+5If you're terminal savy, you can use this script to activate a mouseover for stacks. I did it and it looks nice.
defaults write com.apple.dock mouse-over-hilte-stack -boolean YES
killall Dock - Audacitor, on 12/20/2007, -0/+4Maybe he uses QS?
- soopafly, on 12/20/2007, -0/+4Third runner up on "Stupidest Comment on Digg Today"
- falafelkiosken, on 12/20/2007, -2/+6*gets the champagne*
- luchid, on 12/20/2007, -1/+5I completely agree with both the highlighting and the quicklook issue. I think it does have to do with focus issues, though. Since in a regular window an item has to be selected (and not mouse-overed) for quicklook to work and you can't select items in a stack without opening them maybe they'll have to work around that limitation.
- dizilbdog, on 12/20/2007, -1/+5Actually I''d like to be able to make custom stack photo folders where you can put them anywhere on the dock. Hopefully apple will fix that
- TeheProductions, on 12/20/2007, -1/+5It was hard for me to type out that Leopard had no problems when my keyboard wouldn't respond half of the time.
- objc, on 12/20/2007, -3/+7Oh. God. Yes. Not having the list option was one of those *truly* maddening experiences.
- richthomas, on 12/20/2007, -4/+8wat the hell man? shuddup
- mrdoogee, on 12/20/2007, -0/+3My 2ghz Macbook with 1 gig works just as fast as before. Of course, since I am a windows user too I installed the OS the same way I do Windows, wipe and reinstall from scratch. Guess that helps.
- Timgd, on 12/20/2007, -0/+3Thats not leopards fault lol I'm on a gig of ram in a new imac and it blazes boots in under 10 secs :S
- Hojohto, on 12/20/2007, -0/+3I want to make application stacks.
- eihwaz, on 12/20/2007, -1/+4That's what they showed in the early demoes, and that's what I'm still waiting for. I want to create a stack of just a few items from 1 or more folders, i don't want to have all of them.
- vwgtiturbo, on 12/20/2007, -0/+3Between this fix, and your idea, I would be LOVING Stacks...
- maxxin, on 12/20/2007, -2/+5Command+click doesn't work for you? I have my Application folder as a stack. If I want to open it in Finder I simply command+click it...
- MacParrot, on 12/20/2007, -1/+4Microsoft won't remove WGA because they feel that it serves two purposes
1. Helps (barely) to prevent piracy of their number one money maker Windows
2. It's seen as a reward (by Microsoft) to legitimate licensed users to stay up to date.
Just because more savvy users see it as a PITA, doesn't mean that Microsoft doesn't see it as an advantage to themselves or their users.
Please don't take this as a percieved slam against Microsoft as that was not my intention. - totorototoro, on 12/20/2007, -1/+4"familys" lol.
- MacParrot, on 12/20/2007, -2/+5Pantone285? On topic comments? Buried as inaccurate.
- Phisolo, on 12/20/2007, -0/+3you can add the new photos smart folder that is part of leopard to the dock.
- mcnearcj, on 12/20/2007, -0/+3Please explain how you came to that conclusion. I use a OSX and Windows XP (they both run on PCs!) They both work fine and they both crash once in awhile. Why do you think your comments will sway anyones opinion? Furthermore, why do you care if people use a different OS than you? Your comments just make you look stupid (In my opinion of course).
- Me1000, on 12/20/2007, -0/+3proof?
- ProjectRice, on 12/20/2007, -0/+3If you check his posting history it proves he is a mac troll
He is in dire need of attention and a social life, truly a pathetic existence - scotthew1, on 12/20/2007, -0/+3woah this is new
i thought truspect0r spent most of his time trolling ps3 articles -
