- MarkMontoya, on 09/18/2009, -1/+24Interested study. Would have commented/dugg earlier but my browser was still loading.
- mfoley89, on 09/18/2009, -10/+28Where's Chrome??
- inactive, on 09/18/2009, -1/+19They should have tested using a wifi connection. Opera tends to blow everyone out of the water with their proxy compression.
However speed doesn't really matter when the differences between the browsers are mere milliseconds. - RepublicofJosh, on 09/18/2009, -0/+17You're right. I don't use my mac for scheduling, or downloading, or school work, or work work, or for storing my photos, or for the wondrous one hand computing (which is amazing, seriously, give it a try).
Not everybody is as 'hard-core' a gamer as you. Some of us are okay with a 300 dollar 360 and a nice laptop over a 2500 dollar gaming computer.
I really don't understand the point of fanboyism. You like what you like, I like what I like. Can't we just shut the hell up and enjoy ourselves? - soopafly, on 09/18/2009, -0/+16/s

Safari FTW! - KMartSheriff, on 09/18/2009, -3/+11Not yet released for the Mac unfortunately.
- dlan4327, on 09/18/2009, -0/+6Don't know who dugg you down. You speak the truth.
- mauri824, on 09/18/2009, -0/+6To be fair... those were run on Windows, but I agree with you and I don't see how they use the title 'OS X Browser Speed Wars' after running just two tests - a tab load test and the sun spider test
- sharkd, on 09/18/2009, -0/+5Page 2.
- Rfriaz, on 09/18/2009, -0/+5*****, I am a tool. Forgot about Chrome/Mac.
- ChemiosMurphy, on 09/18/2009, -1/+6Chromium is much faster. downloaded the mac version today and am loving it.
- Rfriaz, on 09/18/2009, -5/+10http://lifehacker.com/5352195/browser-speed-tests- ... seems more accurate. Plus I can actually see how my browser of choice, Chrome, did.
- CB810, on 09/18/2009, -3/+7Slick study, glad someone did all of that so I didn't have to
- stephant, on 09/18/2009, -1/+5Yay! A graph that the color blind can easily read. I know most of you have no idea what I'm talking about but it's a true statement. I cannot count the number of times I've tried, with no success, to differentiate colors on a graph. These guys know how to do it.
- ArcaneAmoeba, on 09/18/2009, -0/+4So why were there only five out of the eight in the pic that actually got tested? This is by no means a comprehensive browser speed test.
- insanewriters, on 09/18/2009, -3/+7Chrome is not available for Mac yet. Sigh.
- MrStormy, on 09/18/2009, -2/+6I lol'd
- inactive, on 09/18/2009, -3/+7WHOOOSH!
- kitsua, on 09/18/2009, -0/+4Safari doesn't suck, but Opera is awesome.
- waluigi14, on 09/18/2009, -0/+4"In general, we find the starred indications of new content useful, but would prefer to choose the sites displayed in Cover Flow rather than have them automatically populated. "
It's called "Top Sites", not Cover Flow, and you CAN chose your own sites by clicking "Edit" in the lower right corner and dragging URL's in, or by clicking the "+" to the left of the location bar. - kezekiel, on 09/18/2009, -2/+6What matters to me is memory management. Safari is a habitual memory leaker, at least for me.
- nonzzero, on 09/18/2009, -1/+5It's not "difficult to make the case for Firefox over Safari". Safari doesn't have a smart-bar, and that pretty much puts it out of the picture for me.
- t0ny, on 09/18/2009, -1/+4Mine can.
- insanewriters, on 09/18/2009, -0/+3I wish they would have compared memory usage. Safari may be fast, but it's a hog.
- TheGreatBelow, on 09/18/2009, -0/+3Namoroka/Minefield a.k.a. Firefox alpha is the best browser for macbooks. Better gesture support than Safari and would probably outscore anything on that test.
- proverbs17, on 09/18/2009, -0/+3The dev version of Chrome is out. Works well, but not all of the features are enabled.
- JessicaWinters, on 09/18/2009, -11/+14Internet Explorer is the best as far as I can tell. It's already installed on my laptop. If other browsers are so good, how come they're never installed on my computer? Because they're probably cheap knock offs of Internet Explorer. Also, I'm able to open a bunch of tabs in one window unlike those other browsers.
- nightmare1228, on 09/18/2009, -0/+3"for the wondrous one hand computing"
This is the internet, you can just say masturbating. - MeltingIce, on 09/18/2009, -0/+3Chrome as you know it isn't available for mac, but you can download nightly Chromium builds (the open-source project Chrome is based off of)
- inactive, on 09/18/2009, -1/+3Meh, speed means jack these days. They're all fast, and I doubt anybody's gonna switch browsers based on this comparrison. Functionality, security, compliance, and memory management are more important.
I'm good with Opera. - tristanoneil, on 09/18/2009, -0/+2I'll start using Safari when Firebug is ported. Web Inspector just doesn't cut it for me. Safari is way faster than Firefox on the Mac though.
- butyoulied, on 09/19/2009, -0/+2i'm digging stainless so far. it's nice to see an UPDATED list of browsers for os x, because others list shiira and all kinds of outdated ones.
- AngelBunny, on 09/18/2009, -0/+2You can download it here:
http://www.google.com/chrome/intl/en/eula_dev.html ...
It runs super fast. :D - RepublicofJosh, on 09/18/2009, -0/+2I wrote out a whole reply and decided that it was pointless to post because this is the internet and I don't feel like wasting my time arguing to somebody that's completely stuck in their own ways.
- sharkd, on 09/18/2009, -1/+3IE hasn't been released for Mac since version 5.2.
- kitsua, on 09/18/2009, -0/+2Macs are considered the only professional computer in many industries and they are used to create the vast majority of music you listen to, films you see and pretty much anything else in media and design.
But of course, if you can't play games on them then they're useless, right? - danielwsmithee, on 09/18/2009, -0/+1Why use the Chrome icon then? The dev version is far enough along that it should be included in these tests. Either that or just don't use the Chrome icon.
- kitsua, on 09/18/2009, -0/+1Throw us a tip or two would you? I've got seven addons and eleven tabs and it's running at 353MB.
I've usually got even more tabs open and I like to leave it running too but sometimes the memory load is just through the roof. I like having stuff like KallOut and Tabmix Plus but my FireFox feels weighty and is clearly hogging memory. Safari seems much snappier (and has adblock).
I don't think you can get IE on mac anymore (thank goodness). - shinkou, on 09/18/2009, -0/+1The odds are there are always heavy flash craps, inefficient scripts, and rusty ISP speed caps which slow your supposedly super fast browser down.
- TBobes, on 09/18/2009, -0/+1I think the three that are missing are the "future" browsers. Apparantly Chrome isn't out on a Mac yet except for some unstable version the article mentioned. Check out page 2, but yeah I am with you I think Chrome would have beat them all if its anything like the Windows version.
- KMartSheriff, on 09/19/2009, -0/+1@danielwsmithee
Hell if I know, I didn't write the article. I'm just saying that Chrome is not officially released for the Mac yet. The dev version is and it "works", but that doesn't really count. - j035u5, on 09/18/2009, -0/+1I fell in love with the safari 4 beta, but then they moved the tab bar back, and i got annoyed wit the way it handles tabs and plugins. every time i upgrade safari i had to reinstall the plug in i used to fix the tabs, so i figured it takes less of my time to wait for ff to load
- lfrankow, on 09/18/2009, -0/+1OOOoooooh !
- bringinSXEback, on 09/18/2009, -0/+1an ******
- brodie7838, on 09/19/2009, -0/+1Yawn.
Tired of hearing which browser is faster than the next every other month.
Fact is, that's not the *only* thing I look for in a browser, and I'm quite unlikely to change my preference because Opera is faster than Safari this week. - richthomas, on 09/25/2009, -0/+1which browser uses the least memory? ive only got 1 gig 'o RAM (second slot fried) and 10 tabs open atm with AdBlock and 1Password installed and Safari is using 320MB of memory.
i dont mind about speed just want low resources for hardcore browsing. - cuervoman914, on 09/19/2009, -0/+1yup. and then what?
