- EdmontonEh, on 06/27/2008, -0/+204BOOOO!!! Funny, I am not surprised one bit! And you know what makes it worse?; they are not gonna give a *****.
***** you Rogers! - CMfly, on 06/27/2008, -0/+153Welcome to Canada's mobile industry. With only 3 companies they don't even need to try to make their plans good.
$60 + $15 for callerID package + $6.95 system access fee + $2 911 fee (just a guess) + taxes = $94.86 and thats not unlimited data!! - stelth, on 06/27/2008, -0/+126Well, ***** that. I'll keep my original iPhone. What's the point of 3G if I'm even able to *****' do anything with it?
Ted Rogers. Go ***** yourself. - dibby1, on 06/27/2008, -3/+114These plans are aweful.
- lmulaire, on 06/27/2008, -1/+97Hurray for us Canadians getting the shaft again from out teleco companies.
- Snoz, on 06/27/2008, -0/+83I honestly hate Rogers with a passion, ***** old greedy bastards. 3-year contract is just retarded, but I could live with it. I'm not buying an iPhone thanks to these ***** plans, I could go through 400MB in a day!
***** YOU ROGERS! - bignah, on 06/27/2008, -3/+62I hate this garbage! I've been waiting two years for an iPhone. I don't even want to think about all the countless hours wasted reading rumours on sites like digg before the original iPhone launch, only to be dissappointed when it didn't make it to Canada. Now, when its finally our time, we get shafted like always. I am so angry I don't even think I want an Iphone anymore. Either that or i am just going to unlock an old 2.5G iPhone off ebay. Thanks a lot Rogers, you've managed to turn off even one of the most hard core of Apple fan boys. I wonder what the mainstream will think?
- inactive, on 06/27/2008, -1/+60What humiliation. You guys here that? The 90's are coming back with their wireless plans...
o_O - Raider007, on 06/27/2008, -0/+58$60 plus what ever other taxes and fees you have to pay for 150 minutes?
3 year contract? 400 meg limit on the basic plan
yeah, that can kiss my ass... i've heard of how bad Rogers is, but this is just awful... - brendanryder, on 06/27/2008, -0/+58this is complete *****, pardon my french. The iphone will not be a success with the plans. we are getting rapped. there is not a chance in hell i will pay that much for those crappy data plans. Notice how they emphasize the "Unlimited Incoming SMS".
The cheapest plan will cost you:
$60.00 - Price plan
$00.50 - 911 Access fee
$06.95 - System Access fee
$15.00 - Caller ID
$82.45 - Sub Total
$04.13 - GST (it's actually $4.1225, but we'll round up)
$10.73 - Total Taxes
$86.58 - Complete Monthly Total.
or 93.18 with PST.

and Jane Haitsma jhaitsma@rci.rogers.com - elfuego, on 06/27/2008, -1/+44It not being unlimited... is *****, but -- and seriously, anyone with an iPhone here would be a huge help -- how much bandwidth do you really burn through in any given month with normal usage (google maps, light browsing, facebook uploads etc.)
No matter what, paying extra for Call ID is still the biggest scam in wireless. Thanks for keeping that up, Rogers! - tiuk, on 06/27/2008, -0/+43***** Rogers. Went through a two year contract, and then a three year that expired in March. I've been with them almost 6 years, hated every minute of it (re-upping for the three year was a terrible decision). I was actually willing to sign my soul away for another three years for the iPhone and a good data plan.
***** this. I'm done. - inactive, on 06/27/2008, -1/+42Apple/Rogers just lost my sale...
Guess I'll stick with my dinosaur Samsung A920 ... with a $5 unlimited surfing package with Bell. - farfromsubtl, on 06/27/2008, -0/+37Better title for this article: Canadians raped again, by Mr. Ted Rogers.
- kayamm, on 06/27/2008, -0/+37caller ID package? what? they charge you for showing who is calling you? lol
- tjex, on 06/27/2008, -0/+36OMG, their evening plan starts at 9:00pm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Evenings are from 9 p.m to 7 a.m
This is a joke! - ScottyDontKnow, on 06/27/2008, -2/+37Well somebody has to pay the Jays roster salary. ***** YOU ROGERS!

Hi,
I was informed today of the pricing plans for the Apple iPhone offered by Rogers.
To keep it short and sweet, I am absolutely STUNNED by the actual pricing plans. To highlight a point in the Rogers press release:
"Rogers offers a wide selection of high value price packages to meet the needs of Canadian iPhone aficionados."
This couldn't be more incorrect. Unlimited data would be the only way to correctly use this device. Anyone trying to use the YouTube channel on the device will very easily burn through their alloted data plan very quickly and will then be subjected to overage charges. What about downloading apps from the App store? Some programs could be near 100Mb in size before being needed to have iTunes for download.
Even worse, $60 a month JUST for data charges is absolute insanity. This doesn't include what most would feel to be reasonable extras like unlimited text messaging, caller ID, etc. All told, for the base package per month with a few features I just mentioned make the monthly rate near $100 after tax. Over the course of 3 years that is over $3500 and still yet, this is for a crippled plan. What good is a 3G network if you're not able to use it to its full potential.
In case you or Rogers wasn't aware, people (both online and off) are completely offended and most people that I have spoken with (more than one person, too :) ) have decided that it won't be worth the data charges and won't be subjecting themselves to a purchase. In short, you've alienated those who were keen on the device. Even Fido offers no reprieve (seeing how they're owned by Rogers).
I highly doubt you will be responsible for changes, but my current line of thought would suggest a complete plan overhaul in order for this device to be successful. You can count on both myself and my girlfriend (who wanted a device until she read about the data plans) to not pick up this phone and patiently wait our contracts out before looking elsewhere for better values.
Regards,
XXXXXXXXXXXXXX - Abominable, on 06/27/2008, -0/+27***** Rogers!
Leave it to them to screw things up. This is typical rogers. UGH! I guess i'm sticking with bell. - tjex, on 06/27/2008, -0/+26The best part, the unlimited evening doesn't start till 9:00PM!!!!!!
Common Telus, build that new network in Vancouver! - motionblur, on 06/27/2008, -2/+28These plans are aweful.
They're also "awful". - xkhaozx, on 06/27/2008, -1/+26Not only is that not unlimited, its merely 400mb!
I use 400+ mb DAILY ffs! - dstopping, on 06/27/2008, -0/+24:(
- thedailynar, on 06/27/2008, -0/+23So not surprised. This is Rogers. Rogers - the people who raise your bills without asking. Rogers - who cap bandwidth and transfers without telling you. Rogers.
$15 Blackberry unlimited data plan from Telus FTW. And I don't even like Blackberry. - kkiran, on 06/27/2008, -0/+22Is Rogers living in a 'caveman' era? They brag about 3G speeds and limit data to 400MB to start with! I pity Canadian iPhone users! Best bet to invest in iPhone 2G or better yet, wait for iPhone 3G to be available online!
- CMfly, on 06/27/2008, -0/+22Unfortunately after doing the math I don't feel any better..
$60 + $15 for callerID package + $6.95 system access fee + $2 911 fee (just a guess) + taxes = $94.86
$94.86 * 36 month contract = $3414.96 + initial $199 or $299 = $3613.96 || $3713.96 - Crandall, on 06/27/2008, -0/+20I'm more then happy with my 1st gen iPhone now. There is no point in playing close to 3700 dollars for a phone and the plan over the course of 3 years; That's highway robbery!
I pay $66 a month for my iPhone on Rogers and that includes: 250 Daytime minutes, 5pm early night and unlimited weekends, 120 minutes long distance, caller id, voice mail and a few other features that I can't recall. I'm really glad I live in a city with free public wifi everywhere because I would definitely not want to pay the fees associated with that data.
Way to ruin a good thing Rogers. Way to go! - seraph582, on 06/27/2008, -0/+19no, but I HEAR it
- unii, on 06/27/2008, -5/+23Don't buy the phone then... and send Apple a message. I think it is down right ridiculous that these companies (including Apple) continue to rip people off and people just sit back and take it. I make $90k a year in the valley and I can very well afford an iphone...
I didn't buy the first one because its feature/price were not worth it. It was missing 3G, GPS, and more memory (16GB option). So, I exercised my greatest ability and didn't buy it. As the second gen rumors came it I got very excited because it had everything I wanted... but you know what.. When the plan details came out for AT&T .. I said $#%$ that.
Forcing me to get 3G... I will pass.. I work 9-5 in a wifi area... I am at home and have wifi... i don't need 3G at the moment nor do I want to be forced to buy it.... So, F' Apple again... $2k cost of ownership over 2 years ?? Nah', I'm straight. Empower yourselves and vote w/ your $$$ and stop being lemming consumers... sheesh. And you wonder why these companies continue to blatantly rip you off? You never stand up for yourselves ! Look throughout history.. This is the way the world works.
Stop allowing yourselves to be suckered into shat. If it isn't worth the money in your opinion.. Walk away w/ your $$$'s. If enough people did this we would have power/voice as consumers.. but everyone wants to be the cool guy and pay $100 a month for a phone.... No wonder we are headed for a big recession. I can't wait either.. Flush all these retards w/ money.. correction (credit) out of the consumer pool and will balance things out - godofpumpkins, on 06/27/2008, -0/+18keep in mind that it'll be a lot easier to eat through that bandwidth when your connection is a lot faster :)
- yabos, on 06/27/2008, -0/+17Welcome to Rogers.
- syuusuke, on 06/27/2008, -0/+15I would've thought this phone could turn around the Canadian wireless telecom service plans but I was wrong. Rogers greed 4TL. They could've soaked more customers if they had a decent plan but then again, a lot of fan boys will pay their whole savings to get this phone.
- MrCoke, on 06/27/2008, -0/+14also caller id is not included. yes you read that properly. 15$ extra to get it
- pell, on 06/27/2008, -3/+17Problem is everyone will buy it and pay and they know this (people pay ridiculous prices already). I live in Waterloo with two big Universities nearby, I bet by September I will see a huge number of students with this phone. I know a lot of people who work at RIM and they're not allowed to like the iPhone lol. There is always internal grumblings about it like propaganda on why RIM is superior.
- motionblur, on 06/27/2008, -3/+17***** Rogers.
...and while I'm at it, ***** the RIAA and CRIA. - teiren474, on 06/27/2008, -1/+15

...i want an iPhone sooooOOO badly but theres NO way im paying that much!! - exomni, on 06/27/2008, -0/+14Terrible plans. I don't care what features it has or how well it works, iPhone is useless with plans this *****.
- Gutterpunk, on 06/27/2008, -0/+13I never do that "***** you" thing, because I don't see the point, but having worked at Fido before the take over, and seeing since then how they killed Fido and every "true" unlimited data plans, I have to say...
***** YOU ROGERS!
oh, and ***** you apologists. You know who you are. No, the Canadian wireless market will not "adjust" itself because of free market, the monopoly created by our very own CRTC will see to that. - eleven, on 06/27/2008, -0/+13Obviously they use the word "evening" very liberally. Seriously - might as well be a night-owl plan, the only calls I get after nine are wrong numbers.
- clith, on 06/27/2008, -1/+13People have been phoning Fido and at least one person has been told that it will be possible to buy an iPhone without a data plan through Fido. So maybe that's the way to go. No 3G, but there's always WiFi until the data plan rates come down, or you move to another country.
- speedygot7, on 06/27/2008, -0/+12the prices are in canadian dollars but the canadian dollar is on par with the usd
- threepio, on 06/27/2008, -0/+12Ri-god-damn-diculous.
There's a facebook group listed in the engadget comments called "Say NO to the Rogers iPhone". I signed up. Contact Rogers and contact Apple; let them know you're just not going to buy unless the plans and the contract are in-line with those from the US. - inactive, on 06/27/2008, -0/+11Bill C-555. If this goes through, it'll make Canada a better place.
http://digg.com/politics/Bill_C_555_Get_Connected_ ... - eleven, on 06/27/2008, -0/+11Yep - I was 100% sold on getting some type of unlimited data for $30/$40 bucks a month on top of my calling plan. Instead I'd basically have to downgrade the rest of my plan and then still get boned when it comes to data and no ***** caller ID included. FU Rogers - and I am currently a happy customer.
- davewelsh79, on 06/27/2008, -0/+11No. The biggest scam in wireless is the system access fee. It's not some special cost. It just goes straight into the general coffers. They say it's to upgrade infrastructure or some *****, but then what did my $60 do? Make the plan $67.45 if you "need" the extra 7.45 to provide 911 and "access".
It's all a scam to advertise a lower monthly amount to get you in the door and then hit you with added fees. It's like going to buy an radio for $80 and then once you've agreed to buy it, the store owner tells you about the $24 RF access fee (it's an industry standard, didn't you know?) - graemee, on 06/27/2008, -0/+10Yeah, pretty much stabdard here in outer canuckastan
- CCB0x45, on 06/27/2008, -0/+103g, downloading apps, youtube videos.. etc.. it adds up. You can download music off itunes on 3g, you can watch movies, who knows what kind of bandwidth certain apps will use... I am sure I could easily run 400 megs in a week, let alone a month.
- tjex, on 06/27/2008, -0/+10You know, I've always wondered what the System Access fee is. It doesn't go to the Govn't, it's goes directly in the pockets of the Telco's
