- Syndrome, on 11/06/2007, -5/+38Apologies for the spelling mistake. Damn.
- o0matt0o, on 11/05/2007, -0/+16Don't worry, we forgive you.
- richardiscool, on 11/06/2007, -3/+17Can you even push 200MB a month over EDGE?
- supermajic, on 11/06/2007, -3/+16Btw, for all you nublets, it goes on sale at 6:02 because the network selling them is O2 and 02 = O2 phonetically.. of course if you speak your 0's as 'Oh' instead of zero or naught. Bai.
- definetheline, on 11/06/2007, -0/+13And Rogers in Canada charges $250 for 100MB of data a month....
The sad state of Canadian telecos... - Retnuh730, on 11/05/2007, -1/+10O2, as in the phone company.
- ivebeenhigh, on 11/06/2007, -0/+6its still a very pricey plan
i am on tmobile which is 600 mins and 600 texts plus web n walk (which has a gig dl limit i go past that the whole time and its not been a problem) for £37.50.
Why would ayone think this pricing from o2 is in any way reasonable? - anthrt, on 11/06/2007, -2/+8Why does it go on sale at 6:02?
- dheaddy, on 11/05/2007, -1/+5A good move from o2 to sweeten the deal
- sammyz, on 11/05/2007, -0/+4Glad to see they have finally come to their senses :)
- luchid, on 11/06/2007, -2/+6Lemme guess: you use Windows, right? And you're telling us not to be part of the heard...
- MrSprout, on 11/05/2007, -1/+5It's about time UK price plans got a little more attractive, well done O2.
- pxa270, on 11/05/2007, -0/+4If you have good reception, EDGE pulls 220kbps, which is 12MB per hour. So you can burn through 200MB in less than 17 hours.
- Vizin, on 11/06/2007, -0/+4I find it odd that you feel so passionately about what phone I use.
- dyranios2, on 11/06/2007, -5/+9thank you oh "l33t" one.
- dyranios2, on 11/05/2007, -0/+3because 6:00 is just soooo cliche!
- HUKI365, on 11/06/2007, -0/+3What the hell is up with apple's 6 o'clock releases anyway? Why 6 and not midnight or 9am or midday or close of business (5pm)?
- chongli, on 11/06/2007, -1/+4You were dugg down because AT&T has nothing to do with how much international roaming costs. It is entirely dependent on the international carriers.
- Vizin, on 11/06/2007, -0/+3You're confusing kilobits with kilobytes. 220 kilobits per second is 27.5 kilobytes per second.
- PaulPinfield, on 11/06/2007, -0/+3It's Ok, here is one of my spares...
e - Jyaif, on 11/06/2007, -0/+3When I first read the title, I thought that by using -O2 to compile the iphone software, it reduced its size by 200MB...
- hackeron, on 11/06/2007, -1/+3Why are you talking about EDGE? -- it's 3G in the UK and I'm pulling almost 480kbps (realistically about 50KB/sec). You can view youtube movies without waiting, stream live video, etc, etc. You can pull an MB in 20 seconds. That's 200MB in about an HOUR! -- we are talking about being able to pull 130GB per month -- the fair use policy of even 3GB per month is a joke.
- adamkmccarthy, on 11/05/2007, -0/+2looks like an attempt at a FUP, without a definition...so they can pull you without you knowing where the line is drawn.
- bigbadgoat, on 11/05/2007, -0/+2it doesn't. That would be a "reasonable price". we're charged an $8/mth "system access fee". Thats right. I sign a contract promising to use their service for 2-3 years. I pay for a data plan that includes a limited number of daytime minutes, unlimited weekends, caller id, txt messages, etc, and I still have to pay a fee to ***** access their cellular network.
Apparently theres going to be a law put in place to put a stop to this, but *****, it sucks for any type of communications services in canada, whether it be phone, internet or tv. - troydoogle7, on 11/06/2007, -2/+4Just because its off the policy doesn't mean its not there. Its becoming an unofficial limit, like other carriers have in the uk
- TomFrost, on 11/05/2007, -0/+1The grand majority of Apple's demographic works 9-5. 6:00 gives their main buyers time to get to the store for the first release :)
- Moose_Head, on 11/05/2007, -0/+1Canada is at least 10 years behind the US in terms of cellular technology and plans. Rogers finally introduced a $65 for 1 gig data transfer plan for Aircards, you can add this to your existing account as a "Wireless Extra". Data is data and Rogers is none the wiser that you do not have an Aircard. Still way too much money to be paying though.
- Flamekebab, on 11/06/2007, -2/+3Maybe I want an iPhone because I've used countless other phones and found they all do a very sub-standard job. Apple have a reputation of delivering the goods, even if the product is fairly costly.
- whistlerpro, on 11/05/2007, -0/+1News coverage, it's a story they can cover live, isn't it?
- starlord1, on 11/05/2007, -0/+1It is my understanding you cannot buy one without a contract. However my information only comes from O2 so they are a bit of an iffy source. Unless you go to France who must sell an unlocked none contract version, I don't think you'll get one in the UK
- Zippo, on 11/05/2007, -0/+1I know Bell Aliant offers a $5/month unlimited data plan... That's for regular cell phones, though. I don't think that applies to Blackberrys... and probably won't for iPhones either.
- hackeron, on 11/08/2007, -0/+1Could there be a version of iPhone in the UK, maybe, just maybe that uses 3G because Edge is almost useless in the UK?
- ivebeenhigh, on 11/05/2007, -1/+2oh and tmobile is on 3.5g in cnetral london...
- Zippo, on 11/05/2007, -0/+1Regular cellular phone customers have to pay the "system access fee" as well. Apparently being a paying for the monthly service doesn't include accessing the damn network. Ugh, ***** Aliant.
- reggplant, on 11/05/2007, -0/+1Yes, then 27.5*3600/1024 comes out to be 96.68MB
- skinfitz, on 11/06/2007, -0/+1Nah that's definitely a Linux user. And it's 'herd'.
- MxM111, on 11/06/2007, -1/+2Speak for yourself! It is iPhone! ne! ne! ne111!1
- starlord1, on 11/06/2007, -1/+2So are you saying that Edge in the UK doesn't suck balls ? ie if you're getting through 200+ megs a month what is the service like ?
- Evari, on 11/05/2007, -0/+1kbps = kilobits per second kBps = kilobytes per second
- hackeron, on 11/06/2007, -0/+1O2 charge £4.60 per MB roaming, that's almost $10 US -- that's $200 USD per 20MB. -- I wish we had the sad state of Canadian telcos here in the UK.
- skinfitz, on 11/06/2007, -0/+1iPhone has an amazing interface, but unfortunately the phone part of the iPhone is severely lacking - for example:
No 3G (!)
Good browser, but stuck with EDGE data (O2 has very poor EDGE coverage)
Cant send texts to more than one person at once
No copy / paste
No supported apps (...yet)
Camera but no video
No MMS
Then there are little things like browser cannot upload files (no uploading photos anywhere, and heaven forbid, upload a video to YouTube (see 'no video' above)).
iPhone seems to be an exercise in what you can't do.
The ONLY good thing about the O2 deal is them throwing in use of their 'The Cloud' hotspots with the contract - I will wager that was thrown in in pure desperation as a sweetener as otherwise the iPhone would be unusable (imagine Safari over GSM data... ew) - jamesburton1, on 11/06/2007, -0/+1Maybe due to the fact that the iPhone only works with EDGE, maybe, just maybe.
- hackeron, on 11/06/2007, -1/+2Why do you say EDGE? -- We use 3G in the UK, you get around 50KB/sec stable in both direction (faster upload than most ADSL) -- I've downloaded over 10GB in a month -- theoretically you can download up to 130GB per month with 3G if it wasn't for the fair use policy.
- Atomic1fire, on 11/06/2007, -1/+1everyone makes mistakes
such as wrong topics/doubleposts and some other frequent to frequenting stuff - Evari, on 11/05/2007, -1/+1220kbps is 99MB per hour. So nearer 2 hours
- skinfitz, on 11/05/2007, -1/+1No 3G for starters, but O2 only have partial EDGE coverage of the UK. That means 'full featured web browser' but over GSM for web pages... ouch.
- BassHead, on 11/06/2007, -2/+2If you want a good phone go for the one with the best battery life.
If you want something that 'delivers the goods' then you're in for a disappointment. The camera for a start: 2megapixels with no flash or video; very 2003.
However it's not all doom and gloom. If you want it for the 'oooh look at my shiny gadget' status then you'll probably get your £/$s worth.
Your money. Your choice. - BrokenVisage, on 11/06/2007, -5/+4iPhon has cheezburger?
- n8to, on 11/06/2007, -3/+2Any ideas of what the price of an iPhone will be? I wonder what hoops one will have to jump through in order to buy one at the Apple store. I'm only interested in the phone - no contract please.
