- InorganicMatter, on 03/25/2009, -0/+14Very nice. Hopefully skipping 3G and waiting for a true hardware refresh will pay off.
- badqat, on 03/24/2009, -0/+12We know at least one new iPhone is coming. I hope at&t does a similar clear out of old stock as well.
- soze1, on 03/25/2009, -0/+10I don't think it's the iPhones price that is the problem but rather the ridiculous monthly fees. Once they cut the data plan prices i might consider getting one.
- Shaggy3, on 03/25/2009, -0/+5Something tells me at&t would rather set their old iPhones on fire than give them out for that price.
- Quicksilver4648, on 03/25/2009, -1/+5The problem isn't the price of the iPhone itself, but rather the crappy monthly phone bill attached to it. I would rather spend $400 on the iPhone 3G in the US and then spend $50 a month on the bill rather then $200 upfront and $90 each month.
- leontes, on 03/25/2009, -1/+4I feel like the media in some ways treat new Apple product releases like internet fans of some sort of movie or tv show. Constantly parsing over the rumors, the slipped information, trying to divine apple's intentions. It's kinda amusing, and probably good for Apple in the long run, but I'd rather be spared of it and just experience whatever the new item is when it gets released. Otherwise, just like those internet fans, people are inevitably dissapointed when the device doesn't have 'special levitating powers' as rumored.
- garble7, on 03/25/2009, -0/+3I know for at least Canada, the Apple 4G will be released in January 2010, coinciding with the upgrade of all the phone networks to GSM and 4G.
With speeds of 50-70Mbps, yes i'd say it's an improvement. - kitsua, on 03/25/2009, -0/+3Same for me. Held out for better hardware (32GB capacity being the most important for me).
Would be nice to have a slightly different case design as well - I'm not fond of the glossy version. - Kazakaz, on 03/25/2009, -0/+3Weren't those the sites that rumored an iPhone Nano also?
- Azriel7, on 03/25/2009, -0/+3Agreed, the monthly price plan is the one thing that really is preventing me from buying it.
- Gareth321, on 03/25/2009, -0/+2Where are you from you ***** scum? Lrn 2 englush and maybe you'll get more ***** hits you soulless goat *****!
- tcardone05, on 03/25/2009, -0/+2Or people just aren't buying it outside the US because they have a wider selection of smartphones to choose from. That's what typically happens- if the people aren't buying it, lower the price and get more sales. In O2's case, this means hooking customers to contracts rather than selling the phone.
- vrikis, on 03/25/2009, -0/+2Actually, that deal is bad. Since you are paying for 6 extra months of 35£, you're essentially paying back for your phone since you can [after the 18 month contract finishes] go onto pay as you go and get the SAME DEAL (same amount of messages/minutes) for nearly half the price and you get a free bolt on (which means you can chose unlimited 3G for free) which comes to around 20£. That's a 15£/month saving. 15x6[months] = 90£ which is nearly what the phone costs. So no, you're not really getting the phone for free...

http://www.iphonekiller.com/2008/07/16/how-much-do ... - vrikis, on 03/25/2009, -0/+2I completely agree that we have it good, O2 are an amazing company. I just can't wait for my contract to finish since I'll be able to get enough minutes/texts and unlimited 3G for about 15-18 quid a month..
- dagamer34, on 03/25/2009, -0/+2What do you think is subsiziding the cost of the phone? Don't tell me you actually believe in the end it only costs $199 to make!
- dagamer34, on 03/25/2009, -0/+2That's probably why they're letting people go contract free with a full purchase of the phone. They're be something to entice them later.
- bensone1, on 03/25/2009, -1/+2try actually looking around for it..

- TylerDuhrdan, on 03/25/2009, -2/+3When ATT gives the phone away for 100.00 or less, offers a plan at 50.00 for unlimited text/calls/411/web access then it would be appealing.
Otherwise paying 130.00 a month for 2 years, plus the cost of the phone, is just plain stupid. 130.00 a month for phone service?. Come n, what a waste of money. - kitsua, on 03/25/2009, -0/+1It's still a good deal IMO. £35 a month for 600 minutes, 500 texts and unlimited, free data, without having to pay for the handset initially, is fantastic value for such a well-designed product. I've been well happy with my O2 contract so far and I think we Brits have it pretty good in comparison to a lot of other countries.
- SpookyET, on 03/25/2009, -2/+3New iPhone? No, you blistering moron. Many countries offer the iPhone cheap, for €1, or free in Europe as long as you pay a rape me in the arse $150/month for however long the contract is.
- garble7, on 03/25/2009, -0/+1I know for at least Canada, the Apple 4G will be released in January 2010, coinciding with the upgrade of all the phone networks to GSM and 4G.
So yes I'm guessing the 4G iPhone is imminent. - seamustry, on 03/25/2009, -0/+1hopefully the battery will last long enough while using the faster 4G networks...
- seamustry, on 03/25/2009, -0/+1use an IM/e-mail service to send/receive texts for free. also, it'll be even better with push notifications in os 3.0
(numerous how-tos on youtube) - jolshwar, on 03/25/2009, -0/+1Does any one else notice how apple always update their iPods in September / November, and Their last two iPhones in June. Come on are you telling me that they are not going to upgrade the hardware to compete with the Pre....
- inactive, on 03/25/2009, -0/+1No joke. I was going to get an iPhone a couple months ago, but when I tried to put together a fairly basic plan, it came out to be $90 a month. The only thing I could change or make cheaper was the unlimited texting, which was $20 extra a month. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I'm only paying $10 right now with Verizon for a total of $60 a month. I could upgrade to the unlimited data plan for $70 a month with Verizon.
Its not a lot until you start adding everything up. Twenty dollars more here, ten dollars extra there, etc etc.. It all adds up pretty quickly.
I ended up buying the Motorola Q9m for my phone (although I still can't afford data just yet) and getting an iPod Touch 2nd Generation. I can really see why the iPhone is so damn awesome now. I would ***** LOVE for my Touch to be a phone too. But ***** AT&T, I'm not paying more for less. Especially when I'm not even happy with Verizon and I still consider them better than AT&T. - Tenoq, on 03/26/2009, -0/+1It's a $700 phone... and actually introduced better value plans in Australia (for data) than we had previously. Our plans are still BS by international standards, but still. :p
Point is, I'd be more than happen with the plan AT&T offers for the iPhone. It's substantially better than anything available here! - inactive, on 03/25/2009, -0/+1AT&T really are evil bastards. They're smart (aka - evil) in offering the iPhone at a cheap price, because they know it will entice people to buy one, and then of course have to pay for the expensive plans, which will make them much more money in the long run than offering cheaper plans and a more expensive product.
Doesn't apple only get a cut from the actual iPhone sales? Not from the plans? If so, then no wonder, its a gold mine for them. (well obviously, AT&T wasn't nearly as big before the iPhone, now they're huge.) - bensone1, on 03/25/2009, -1/+1this says otherwise

Idk, Does anyone really want a watered down iphone "nano" that will probably be overpriced? I say just work on making the iphone we have now more affordable and with more up to date features (video camera). - Kazakaz, on 03/25/2009, -0/+0AT&T would be smart to do something like this. I know a bunch of people whoe are considering the iPhone, this would make them jump ship from Verizon.
- bensone1, on 03/25/2009, -1/+1well they got the 3g post out from the chinese forums and they have also shown upcoming mb air, unibody mb & mbp's, along with the new mac mini before their release. i get what you are saying, but i dont remember anyone from "high up" in a&t confirming an iphone nano either.
- Kazakaz, on 03/25/2009, -0/+0I agree that $20 for unlimited texting is ridiculous. With T-Mobile's Sidekick data plan, it includes unlimited texts, and the data plan is only $20 a month ($30 a month without a voice plan).
