- betona, on 06/23/2009, -2/+30Does it also secretly install an AOL search tool bar and some icons to special offers and a few other apps AOL eh, "pushes" on you?
- inactive, on 06/23/2009, -0/+24AOL? No.
AIM? Yes. Most people. - Zippo, on 06/23/2009, -3/+23Ugh, everyone I know used to be on AIM... five or so years ago. Now everyone here is on MSN (and a scattered few on Gtalk). I have a single contact left who uses AIM exclusively.
We reeeeally need a multi-client IM app with Push for the iPhone. - zimsters, on 06/23/2009, -11/+31seriously? people still use AOL?
- spazzcat, on 06/23/2009, -1/+14Isn't that Beejive?
- Twinnie, on 06/23/2009, -1/+12Beejive only just got approved, and it's quite expensive.
- Twinnie, on 06/23/2009, -1/+12Every IM app in the store says they're waiting on their latest push enabled upgrade to be approved. Why the hell did Apple choose to do AIM first?
- mcphattySS, on 06/23/2009, -3/+14why the hell does aim cost 2.99?!
- Coy0te, on 06/23/2009, -3/+12Does it have a maximum of 24h before it logs out like Beejive? because that's kind of annoying.
- heyimfromreddit, on 06/23/2009, -2/+11Why is it annoying? If you don't open the app at all for a whole 24 hour period do you really need it to stay connected?
- Iwantawii, on 06/23/2009, -0/+8The new version of Beejive is now released and it has push + landscape keyboard.
- Logal, on 06/23/2009, -0/+7*****, zimsters.. how old are you, 10? Because AIM is like the first IM protocol, i.e., the most popular. Welcome to the interwebs.
- cjschmidt, on 06/23/2009, -1/+8Yeah. How dare they charge for something they spent time and resources developing. And THREE WHOLE DOLLARS?!?! That's like the cost of a whole cheeseburger for an app that I'll use what, 20-30 times a day max. Even worse... they releases a FREE full-featured ad-supported version just to rub it in. Damn them and their food & shelter-wanting families. Everyone should do everything for me for free just so they can bask in the glow of my innate awesomeness.
It's not like there are other free applications to connect to the open AIM network that AOL hosts for free. - butyoulied, on 06/23/2009, -0/+7BeejiveIM > AIM
- heyimfromreddit, on 06/23/2009, -0/+6Just make sure you open the app at least once every 24 hours. I don't see why you wouldn't do that anyway.
- DelMonte, on 06/23/2009, -1/+7iChat on the Mac uses the AIM network, that makes them "privileged" parters I guess.
- heyimfromreddit, on 06/23/2009, -1/+6Like say...Meebo for iPhone
- Chairboy, on 06/23/2009, -1/+6Because people will pay for value received.
- Iwantawii, on 06/23/2009, -0/+4If that's the case for you, sure. For me though Beejive was worth the $10. Before Push came out, Beejive would send me an email to my Yahoo address (which Pushes to the iPhone) if someone messaged me when I was out of the app. Roundabout, yes, but it worked.
The push works just as well now even with MSN, gtalk, facebookIM, etc. I've bought all of the IM apps and for the way I use my iPhone, Beejive is the clear winner and easily worth the $10 to me. - heyimfromreddit, on 06/23/2009, -2/+6How long do you expect them to keep your session alive on their servers when you're not using it? A month?
- nochilinopity, on 06/23/2009, -0/+4Yep
- heyimfromreddit, on 06/23/2009, -0/+4Beejive is worth $10. If you can pay hundreds of dollars for a phone/MP3 player you can pay 10 bucks for a fantastic IM client.
- cheule, on 06/23/2009, -1/+5Well I might be flamed for this, but here goes....
One of the problems with Android is actually it's supposed strength... the fact is runs on open hardware. Apple's products always have so much polish to them, because Apple controls the hardware presentation. I actually liked the software on the T-Mobile G1 (overlooking the obvious limitations of no multi-touch due to copyright), but I gotta say the hardware HTC provided was just clunky and lame. - dragossh, on 06/23/2009, -0/+4For me it’s the other way around. If I enable push for e-mail, my battery drains faster. I don’t know whether this is an email only issue or if this happens with Push Notifications too.
- mysql101, on 06/23/2009, -0/+3I installed this last night. The Push feature works well, something I've been waiting for a long time.
My only complaint is that if you receive 5 push notifications, when you enter AIM client, you receive 5 additional notifications about the same messages. I disabled sound, but the phone vibrates anyway.
They should make it so that when Push is enabled, it doesn't alert you to the same messages. - factsahoy, on 06/23/2009, -11/+14Anything involving AOL is over.
- kreatre2007, on 06/23/2009, -3/+6There's no landscape keyboard in the new version. WTF!!!
- Zippo, on 06/23/2009, -0/+3For the Mac, we already have Adium.
- mysql101, on 06/23/2009, -1/+4That's what I thought about AIM years ago, but I found that most people used it, so I too used it.
I have a few friends who use yahoo, but they're on AIM too, so ... I don't bother with anything but AIM even though I loath AOL. - Pyroteq, on 06/23/2009, -7/+9***** AIM. Give us a good version of MSN.
- JshMRsn, on 06/23/2009, -0/+2Their update hasn't been accepted yet, but I can't wait for Palringo with Push.
- megamod, on 06/23/2009, -0/+2trillian for iphone is in beta
- dustinbolton, on 06/23/2009, -1/+3Remember ICQ with the foghorn and uh-oh sounds? I still remember my number too.
- jads, on 06/23/2009, -0/+2Beejive was approved and listed the same time as AIM was, at least here on the UK store. Though MacRumors reported both were released on the App Store worldwide at the same time.
- majortom1981, on 06/23/2009, -1/+3Thats the add free ersion .The one with ads is free. The ads dont bother me to much
- likwidfuzion, on 06/23/2009, -0/+2Except, texting (natively) isn't free. It's a rip off.
- likwidfuzion, on 06/23/2009, -0/+2Landscape keyboard will come on a subsequent update for the free version.
- inactive, on 06/23/2009, -0/+2Because they're putting it in the "non free" version. Just wait for the jailbreak and snag 'er.
- freediverx, on 06/23/2009, -2/+4Beejive has an ugly-ass interface...
- orvtech, on 06/23/2009, -0/+2beejive
- darkcthulhu, on 06/23/2009, -0/+2Try NimBuzz.
- waydee, on 06/23/2009, -0/+2Samsung i7500.
- kreatre2007, on 06/23/2009, -3/+5I'm not going to jailbreak just for one damned feature. I'll just pay for the other version. I want to get rid of the stupid ads anyway. I don't mind PAYING for apps if I'm going to use them a lot. Jailbreaking is not always the answer.
- CraigHwk, on 06/23/2009, -1/+3Do you even know what you're talking about?
- Charlotte_Web, on 06/23/2009, -1/+3As much as I use IM, I'm willing to pay for a really good version.
- likwidfuzion, on 06/23/2009, -0/+1You can tweak notifications by toggling sound, badges, and/or alerts (those popups) for each app.
- slashdevnull, on 06/23/2009, -1/+22010 is the year of Android on the desktop!
- Logal, on 06/23/2009, -1/+2No.
- Iwantawii, on 06/23/2009, -1/+2No, people spend large parts of their time and money to develop apps. If you're not starving and living in a box, you shouldn't steal everything you can just because you know how to. It's cowardly and lame.
- Carbunkulous, on 06/23/2009, -1/+2Have fun with your $100 dollar email. You better love it.
