- lechuga, on 10/15/2007, -16/+5Wait it out.. It'll be just a few days before the free solution arrives. I've ordered 20 more iPhones for sale here in Honduras. They go for $800.
I, however, would go for the paid solution with IPSF for my own iPhone.- alex7575, on 10/15/2007, -0/+10I hope you're at least donating some of that profit to the dev team.
And for future reference, I wouldn't brag about profiting from an open source application.
We are all aware people out there do it, but to openly brag about it, and even let us know what your profit margin is... well, not too smart.- TomKarpik, on 10/15/2007, -3/+1He's profiting from the hardware (ie. the phone). Maybe $30 of that profit is from it being unlocked -- seeing as how an unlocking service will charge you about that much to do it.
Get off your open-source high-horse.- alex7575, on 10/15/2007, -0/+2100% of his profit comes from unlocking the iPhones, or you think people are going to sign up with ATT from honduras?
btw, what's YOUR margin?- TomKarpik, on 10/15/2007, -1/+0No, his profit comes from the hardware -- unless you think people are willing to pay $300 to get an iPhone unlocked, when the next cell shop down the street will do it for 1/10 that.
Go back to compiling kernels. Leave the business talk to the big boys. - alex7575, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1"No, his profit comes from the hardware -- unless you think people are willing to pay $300 to get an iPhone unlocked, when the next cell shop down the street will do it for 1/10 that."
What part of he lives in Honduras, wasn't clear to you?
"Go back to compiling kernels. Leave the business talk to the big boys."
I'm a .NET developer, I don't do kernels. I like Windows because it's what I'm used to and what pays my bills. I have a workstation running Ubuntu as I'm trying to slowly migrate to Linux, because that's where I believe business applications will be written for in the future, as Linux is quickly becoming more end user friendly. I don't owe MS anything, and I don't hate them either, but something more attractive is on the horizon.

- lechuga, on 10/16/2007, -0/+1People pay for the fact that you can't find the iphones anywhere here. They have no way of getting them here without paying taxes. I do. Plus, they're not aware of the unlocking process.
It's not greed. It's just the market.

- bingobongony, on 10/15/2007, -3/+1Why? Are you suggesting that a gang of open source thugs are going to come and beat him up? I would LOVE to se that.
- alex7575, on 10/15/2007, -0/+2Please learn about what Open source is, do a search for GPL on Google.
- bingobongony, on 10/15/2007, -1/+1I know about open source. That doesn't make his warning any less hysterical. Especially in this case in which there is NOTHING that is against the GPL being done.
- alex7575, on 10/15/2007, -0/+2Open source doesn't mean free, it means "freedom" to alter the software when you want it, and how you want it. Open source software still falls under the CopyRight and CopyLeft laws. The GPL allows FAIR USE of unmodified GPL'd software.

- bingobongony, on 10/15/2007, -4/+0IT will be just a few days before a free solution arrrives.....and just a few days after that before Apple and AT&T put a stop to it again.

- andrewcsayer, on 10/16/2007, -3/+17I'm posting from my iPhone now. I just played with it and I can see any pro.....
- tyler9xp, on 10/15/2007, -1/+18This wasn't exactly leaked. It was released as an "experimental version" on IRC last night for those daring enough to risk their phones, but the Dev Team decided they didn't want to hear all the complaints from noobs who ignored the "experimental" tags and bricked their phones thinking it was an official release.
- tyler9xp, on 10/15/2007, -0/+7Sry, ran out of time. The Dev Team's comment about this is at http://iphone-dev.com/2007/10/13/news-on-the-new-a ...
- kreatre2007, on 10/15/2007, -9/+3I just don't understand why so many people want to hack their iPhones! I love mine just the way it shipped from Apple.
- bingobongony, on 10/15/2007, -3/+2good for you, fanboy.
- HesNikke, on 10/15/2007, -1/+2that may be fine for you, but i use my iPhone for keeping track of my finances, and to play old skool NES games (yay Dragon Quest 1!!!!) not to mention all the other fun 3rd party stuff i've got going on it. :P
- PathDaemon, on 10/15/2007, -1/+4Because I want custom apps and to not pay more money to AT&T. I'm happy without data, to share a cheap family plan on T-Mobile.
- elig, on 10/15/2007, -2/+3'Cause I'm a university student with free Wi-Fi for miles around me, so I have no incentive to pay an extra $400 per year for low-speed data service that I don't need?
