- sshanafe, on 10/12/2007, -5/+41I made the switch about two months ago. I don't regret it.
- ravage386, on 10/12/2007, -0/+28Aye, I bought a black MacBook for college use, thinking at the time that I would spend most of my time running XP with BootCamp leaving OS X as some novelty I could play around with when bored. In the two weeks since the purchase I have become an AppleGeek. I can't stand to use XP anymore... (it somehow seems so much more clunky and unsophisticated now...) I only run it when I need it for compatibility reasons.
- meatmcguffin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+29Try using one
- cjodonoghue, on 10/12/2007, -8/+32I really do need to buy a Mac. Stuck as a windows user .*Sigh*
- farqueue, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19iSight iSight iSight!!!!!
Plz, make i have been waiting for iSight to work!!!! - rritterson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18you mean like Parallels?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19Would it be logical to assume this might fix the problems that were reported on the recently launched new eMac?
- slimpip, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19Or is it pure... genius?
- unamas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Nice, but no information as to what it updates?
- theiss, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Don't try running something like Far Cry in Parallels either. Parellels is great for checking how ***** up CSS looks in IE on a PC, but sucks big time for PC games.
- sitryd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14the application may be time limited, but BootCamp doesn't run when you boot into windows (nothing from OS X does). All BootCamp does is a.) burn the driver CD and b.) repartition your drive. unless apple makes a massive departure from its normal behavior, i would assume that so long as youve run it and installed windows prior to the expiration, the time-limiting aspect will do nothing past running BC again...
- meatmcguffin, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17There are millions of people who use Macs. These millions of people know exactly what they get when they buy a Mac, they aren't being tricked or conned.
These are the same millions of people who will never switch back to Windows or buy a non-Apple computer.
That really should tell you something. - FearlessNinja, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13if they didn't add isight support, i'll write a driver for you guys, i'll keep you posted. i'll digg it.
- superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12You forgot to finish your post:
"HAMMER TIME". - reverb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Based on past history, it's unlikely that Boot Camp on Tiger will stop working when Leopard ships. Back in 2003, Apple released beta versions of iChat AV and X11.app for Jaguar. When Panther shipped, containing final versions of both programs, it had no effect on Jaguar users who'd already installed the betas.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Jesus Christ. I have rarely encountered such utter balls and utter stupidity online in a while after reading some of those comments. If you want to bash Apple, fair enough, I have no objection whatsoever. But wouldn't you save yourself more time and energy doing something constructive? Start up a forum of your own, make your own little website etc. I am sick of clicking on Apple stories and seeing these childish comments ''Apple sucks'' etc. Get over it..do not participate in the thread..get a ***** life!
- unwiseone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Same here. Been a Windows user since 3.1. Made the switch in about a little more than a month ago and I wonder why I didn't do it sooner.
- chucker, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13First to figure out what's new wins a lollypop.
- aoe2bug, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14It really does make sense as a business decision. How is that stupid?
- deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12So you hate closed, restrictive, formats but you like using WMA? You're making no sense...
- rasterbator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I'll do better than digg you down, *****. I'll block you. What a bunch of ignorant crap you are spewing!
"Apple is basically using another companies creation to pull themselves out from the bottom."
What planet are you from? Must be the one in Redmond, Washington, because Microsoft is the one trying to copy Apple's OS and trying to market an iPod lookalike. Dufus. - reiggin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Wonder if this includes Bluetooth drivers for the Apple wireless keyboard and mice?
- corsairstw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Hmmm... I don't know about differences in this version. A member of the Versiontracker community said this. He didn't notice any differences after installing the new driver disk.:
"Installed on a MacBook. No problems. After installation I ran Boot Camp Assistant 102 and burned the new Windows XP Mac drivers. Rebooted into Windows XP, inserted the newly burned CD and installed the new drivers. Rebooted into Windows XP and I have noticed no difference between Boot Camp 101 and Boot Camp 102"
-Barrikady-1942 (from Versiontracker.com) - shuffle, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Please explain to us how your version of "going down the drain" translates to "doing very well" to everybody else? I'm no Apple fanboy, but look around. Apple is not heading down the drain by any stretch.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11The T&C's for Boot Camp explicitly state that "THIS IS BETA, TIME-LIMITED SOFTWARE". I really do think that Boot Camp is a top selling point for the OS and by disabling the BETA then they'd see a number of people upgrade to Leopard.
- dombi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10No, nothing offical yet. I am sure that this info will surface sooner or later on the Mac news sites, or on the Apple Discussion Boards.
http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1165 - superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Bootcamp doesn't work with Windows 98. If you can't even get that right what hope does the rest of your post have for usefulness OR accuracy?
Man you are on a roll today - too bad it's all downhill. - antiintel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Even Apple on their own PC vs. Mac commercials advertises Parallels. If you watch the commercial in which the Mac says he's a PC too, look at the fine print. It says with the purchase of Parallels and Windows. Even Apple itself is saying to use Parallels.
- colinnowra, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Bluetooth works fine for me
- kohlmannj, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8The iChat AV Public Beta expired. I don't know about X11 though.
- guytoronto, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Going down the drain? How many Macs does Apple sell each year? Take a look, and you'll realize the number grows year after year.
- jer2eydevil88, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8This digg has basically brought all the 10 - 16 year old kids out tonight... Couldn't digg be changed to ask some basic personality test questions before giviing a member the ability to post under the Tech category?
- Boondoggle, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Was that a reply or just a random comment to the entire world?
- Jangles, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8hmm, my Bt apple mouse works in XP.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12Very nice. I just got my Mac and I love it even though I know absolutely nothing about computers. I guess that's why it feels like it was made just for me.
- Boondoggle, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Your negative diggs alone indicate that you are an idiot. Your posts confirm it.
- myheaditches, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6How is it a good business move for Microsoft to break windows compatability on Macs? They did nothing to make it work on intel Macs, so it's pretty much free business for them. Breaking compatability will hurt their sales.
- Jangles, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12Why do people care so much and have so much hate? I hace Mac OSX ans windows. I don't particularly care for windows but is is useful to have every now and then. Whatever you have you have. I don't lose sleep over OS's.
- kwojniak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5We may never know specifically. The latest firmware updates for the Intel Macs had no specific information. So this Boot Camp update probably just addresses some odd bugs. If there was anything major (like built-in iSight support), I'm sure it would be mentioned.
- ripcord, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6No, Parallels is a VM in exactly the way that VMWare is. Both are system virtualizers and do as little hardware emulation as possible. You may be thinking of the difference between the Mac version of Virtual PC and VMWare - VPC is an Intel platform EMULATOR and emulates ALL hardware.
- kanecorp, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10Do you not understand that Apple makes their money on selling their hardware...not their software?
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6If you were american you would have said "PERIOD" instead of "FULLSTOP".
Just an observation. No point really - adalgiso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Getting back to the actual article, Blue-tooth is now working on dual-booted macs
- palakt, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7thats why theres parallels
- ronaldpoi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7You obviously don't use Mac... that's why you can't understand... i paid $2600 for my Intel Mac (Yes, in Peru with taxes, they're f*ckng expensives) and i'm really happy for that... i'll buy yet another one and now Windows for me is just a way to call holes in the walls...
- screwzluse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Wow... Great job on the whol flame wars and such. Nice that we can turn this into a techolitical debate (not a word but I'll use it anyway). Here's a thought, just stfu about "windows sucks" or "who would run windows along sid mac" or "mac sucks." It's a waste of time. Can't wait for a genetically engineered fruit article to hit the frontpage, maybe we can argue about oranges sucking more then apples. That'd be cool.
Anyway, I installed the new update and reburned the drivers. It appeared to add the ATI control panel (which didn't install last version for me, I believe), updated the network drivers (for my macbook pro), and updated the bluetooth drivers. I'm sure there's more but that all I noticed out right. I would have tried the isight but I'm not in the mood for a crash or anything - unwiseone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"Sure wish I could watch WMV 10 files on my Mac, but alas. No support for proprietary format on Macs..."
You should definitely try VLC Player or Flip4Mac. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I have had my Macbook Pro for a little over 2 weeks and have just recently installed Boot Camp and XP. XP looks great on the MBP, but I won't boot into Windows unless I need to. XP is just there in case I run into some compatibility problem.
- gaberm1972, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Someone stated above that running windows on a cheap machine makes more money sence then running XP on a mac. I have to completely disagree with that comment for one main reason. Protability. I just recently purchased a Macbook Pro. As an Apple tech, I need to have the ability to do Apple related service with my mac. As a PC tech, I need to have windows for office that are running windows only apps. Now I guess I could have bought this macbook for $2000 and had all my apple things to go withit and then spent an additional $700 bucks on a cheap basic windows laptop, but that would meen that i have to cary around twice the load, spend $600 more then I would have in the first place.
Instead, I bought a Macbook Pro @ $2000 and a copy of windows Home for $99. I have a much better machine then I would have if I went with one of those "Dude your getting screwed" Dells for $499. I also have only one 15.4" Wide screen notebook that weighs less then Dells power adaptor and can run circles around most pc's. Oh yeah, and I can run OS X Leagaly as well.
Remember OS X is not for every one, but neither is XP... But if you need both then your only way is Apple, and they build a nice machine to do it all with. - YZ600R, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4i hope they added right click, from ctrl click or adding 2 finger click, as well as the speakers turn off when you use headphones
can someone with it try -
