news at 11 on digg. - alienSkull, on 10/12/2007, -5/+37the only cool thing about them is the 'booger' glue used to hold them on...
- Nerevar, on 10/12/2007, -6/+30It always makes me laugh when i see these Mac adds, because they obviously are omitting gaming from the equation.
PC's are for boring things like spreadsheets and pie charts and games. Oh wait games are fun and exciting. *****, well you can play UT and WoW on a Mac... And make photo albums and videos (like you can't do those two things on any other OS).
Anyhow, I'm not a Mac hater or anything. I recently picked up an ipod and I love it. OSX gets my respect as well. But seriously it seems like they're trying to appeal to idiots (maybe that is their target audience?). - goat77, on 10/12/2007, -14/+37...Either you just failed at being clever, or Apple is paying you too much.
- dave1021, on 10/12/2007, -5/+27I hear the new Malibu Barbie is out! She's got a pony!!!
- Arkonnan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23> news at 11 on digg.
And 12, and 1, and 2, and 3, etc.. - teknotant, on 10/12/2007, -5/+23Yep, the first thing I do when I get my WIRED mag is shake it upside down to let the subscriptions cards fall to the ground and rip out all the cardboard ads.
I can not stand not being able to thumb through a magazine because of the ads. - ThomasNewman1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17I know! Wired is an awesome magazine but I hate how there are so many subscription cards in there, even though I am already subscribing to it. Sigh.
- redxii, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15"What's the difference between a Mac and a PC?"

There you have it folks... - Vanden, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17If you want more IM clients, get Adium.
- shawnanigans, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11It would be nice to add audio and video on MSN, so I can actually use my iSight.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11In other news, advertising is everywhere.
- user123, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Luckly nobody is calling the ad "brilliant" like the other faulty Mac rehash ads they've come out with recently.
- Tredici, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I think you're thinking of the new Barbie® Tawny Horse™, which was actually released under their Forever Barbie™ line.
- holmes101, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8"But seriously it seems like they're trying to appeal to idiots (maybe that is their target audience?)"
Maybe that's the general population these days. Its basic advertising. You appeal to the largest market which, these days, just happens to be idiots. - magic6435, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9whats the difference between a mac and a PC ...ooO id say about 800 bucks.
- thatgirlismine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5The thing that gets me is how the whole pitch of the ad insults the reader. I mean, this is an ad in Wired, a magazine about computers and technology, and Apple runs an ad talking about how "PCs are for pie charts" and Macs are for fun things like music.

"Ever heard of consoles? They're generally preferable because everything can be optimized for one set of hardware, so everything is less glitchy and complicated, meaning you get to have fun sooner without having to troubleshoot problems."
And the winner for the best non-gaming gaming comment goes too....
Seriously though, consoles don't replace computers. The Xbox360 caught up to computers in graphics. With Oblivion and Crysis out/coming out, computer gaming already ahead of "next gen" in terms of graphic quality.
And onto gaming quality. The keyboard and mouse offer a rich set of input abilities that consoles have always lacked. The mouse is why there are many, many FPS games for the computer, and like three decent ones for the consoles. RTS games are all but impossible with a controller. MMO's? Kiss those goodbye. (Unless your console has a keyboard, as well).
And that's just genres. Mod's? Forget that. That's okay, who likes mods anyway? Certainly not CounterStrike players. And extra content? That's for newbs. Everyone knows downloadable fee-based content is the future. Why would anyone want to play Morrowind or Oblivion and have probably a literal terrabyte of fanmade content available them. (There are literally thousands upon thousands of fanmade plugins for those games).
For a computer gaming, consoles just don't cut it. Don't get me wrong, I love my PS2, I play guitar hero all the time. RPG's like the FF games just feel right with a controller. But, no console could ever replace my computer... ever.
And a Mac couldn't either. A Mac is as much of a console as a PS2 is. Standardized hardware with little or no ability of upgrade outside of replacing the entire machine. Excuse me, I'll take my PC. - MacParrot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Well said. Every time someone makes a comparison of iPhoto to Photoshop, Apple is smiling. Every time someone compares Premiere to iMovie, Apple is smiling. iWeb to Dreamweaver, GarageBand to Acid or Cakewalk, Apple is smiling. Why? Because all those other programs are hundreds more than the iLife apps.
Are the iLife apps as good or as powerful as the rivals mentioned? Of course not and only the most rabid Apple forever fan would claim they were. iLife isn't positioned to take on Hollywood, or the LA music industry, or pro web builders, or pro photographers. It's meant for casual users who just want to make some slight adjustments for their family reunion pics or vacation snaps. They want to take those adjusted photos and drop them into a slideshow without having to have different apps by different companies search all over their drives to find them. They want to make a DVD with cool effects they see on TV intermixed with some video and music and they want it to be easy. iLife makes it easy. Powerful does no one any good if they can't figure it out quickly.
For people who do photo manipulation or high level audio/ video editing on a professional level, all those other programs are what they need. The power that Premiere, Avid, or Final Cut gives them is what makes the movies and television programs we watch amazing. However none of those programs are for casual users. Same with Photoshop. Same with high end audio programs. Same with high end web content creation programs. The pros and enthusiasts take the time to learn them because they are the very best available. Casual users want what works quickly and gives good results. iLife is that for the Mac. There are certainly other programs for Windows that do the same. The difference is the integration of the iLife apps over those for Windows. - 2point0, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I liked the "put it in her pooper" reply much better--a real classic! lol
- briang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5this will be great for that day i run out of toilet paper
- gotamd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It's good to see that every time Mac comes out with new advertisements I'll know about it from Digg. I was really worried that one might slip by me and I would miss out on an opportunity to be awed by the awesomeness that is Apple.
- betterth, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5What get's me however, is the bit of the ad about iLife'06
Quote: Apple "[iLife06] deliver[s] such vast improvements in digital imaging and multimedia programs that no programs on any other platform can even be called rivals"
Wow. I'm sure iPhoto is great. I've always wanted a "POST PIX TO MY BLOG" link in Photoshop CS2, so I'll be switching to iPhoto right away. What do you mean, I'll lose my best-in-class image manipulation and creation. And, I'll stop using the industry standard photography program, arguably unsurpassed in many years? But I thought it "couldn't even be called a rival" it was so inferior... hum..
iMovieHD, however, sounds great. I can "create Hollywood-style movies using cinematic titles, new audio tools, and real-time Mac OS X Core Video effects, then share them in a video podcast or save them to iPod." Man, drop my Hollywood-used Premiere! Apparently iMovieHD can put my vidoes right into a VIDEO PODCAST! Those video podcasting abilities are apparently "so good no program can be called a rival".
Shall I continue? Apparently iWeb now dwarfs Dreamweaver. GarageBand apparently has surpassed programs like CakeWalk.
I feel this advertisement is horribly misleading. Even if it is a quote, they need to be honest.
"Mac's iLife06 software makes everything a huge breeze for idiots who hate lots of buttons. Don't know how to export a file with a codec, upload it and share it? That's fine, you're not stupid, you just need a Mac! Can't be bothered to learn how to resize photos and share them on your website? That's okay, HTML is so 1999, and so is Photoshop! iWeb and iPhoto completely simplify the entire process down to two buttons! Two clearly labelled and hopefully idiot proof buttons" - DeezKnots, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5You don't know? Well, let me explain the differences and maybe you'll figure it out.
PC's Crash, Have Spyware/Viruses, are loud (Fans), are junky/cheaply made, Run a Windows OS released in 2001, Runs an OS with very poor support and is costly depending which support you use (I get to fix Windows systems of friends and family because of this), Appeal to broke people with no knowledge of computing, The only multimedia software bundled with a PC is usually Windows Movie Maker which is absolute *****, They have more GAMES aka Wintindow.
Macs do not do all of the above, yet have many many games (Most of them very Popular titles only though) and Run WINDOWS if you want it.
Summary, PCs are a waste of time and money even if you are cheap because they will cost you one way or another. - KingMoses, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Lead by example.
- Gazpacho, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If you ever try carrying your Wired anywhere you manage to leave a trail of subscription cards. I guess marketing department is hoping random people will pick them up, fill them out, and mail them in?
- Spazkake, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4It's not even a good ad. It's obvious this wouldn't be here if it wasn't about apple. I'm not a PC fanboy, I think macs are great machines, but this kind of content really has no place on digg.
- DeezKnots, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually, I'm a web designer who has too many friends who can't get viruses and spyware of their Wintindo computer without me fixing it. What do you know about Macs anyway... obviously... NOTHING.
- jenmo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The tv ads are more impressive than the printed ones.
- DeezKnots, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1A Mac Pro with Intel XEON Woodcrest CPUs with 3 30" LCDs. It runs Windows Better than HP/DELL/SONY/ALIENWARE so you can still have a wintindo plus the stabilty of UNIX OS X.
- ghostcat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Macs blah blah blah.
PCs blah blah blah.
It's a matter of preference. Being a competent computer user, I will go with the best value for my money. What's that you say? The new Mac laptops are actually cheaper than a comparably equipped dell? Huh, I may need to get a Mac next time. This doesnt change the fact that these ads are very misleading and elitist. - briang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1now if there were only a way to remove the rest of the ads from the magazine... but then we'd have nothing but the front cover.
- imyayo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Full steam ahead for the Apple Locomotive.
- DeezKnots, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"whats the difference between a mac and a PC ...ooO id say about 800 bucks."
Maybe you could get yourself a paper route so you can get a real computer... or at least untill you save up $800. An entry level mac brand new is only $600. Macs Run Windows Also. Game Over. - chrislewis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Er, you forgot that most often the problem with the computer is between the keyboard and the chair. Getting a mac doesnt help stupid people get smarter.
- GeneralFailure0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yeah, you'd think the guy who took the pictures could've at least gotten a little closer so we wouldn't have to strain our eyes trying to make out what it actually says. Then again, he probably didn't expect pictures of a magazine advertisement to make the front page of a social news website.
- DeezKnots, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"And a Mac couldn't either. A Mac is as much of a console as a PS2 is. Standardized hardware with little or no ability of upgrade outside of replacing the entire machine. Excuse me, I'll take my PC. "
Mac's Run WINDOWs retard. Game over. - miker71, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Apple ads always arouse passion. They must be doing their job (like great art). Whatever your opinion of Macs actually are, you have become passionate (obsessive and protective or outraged and offended) and that is what is needed to keep people talking about the Mac, that stupid computer with 4% market share that no PC user should be worried about.
- p202p, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think Apple placed the same ads in Entertainment Weekly weeks ago.
- mikev, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4mod me down plz thx
- anonym41414, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Believe it or not, people who play computer games are a small fraction of the total number of computer users. Folks like to talk about how big the video game industry is in terms of dollars, and they're right. There's a lot of money moving around out there. But if you look at it in terms of people instead of dollars, you realize that video game players are a niche market.
So your comment makes about as much sense as one berating Apple for ignoring the oh-so-important computational chemistry market. Don't they see how many people use their computers for computational chemistry? Aren't they stupid for ignoring those people? LOL! - greatcaffeine, on 10/12/2007, -9/+8Apple is trying to appeal to people that are sick of Windows and all of the problems that come with it. Most people aren't going to know what they're doing with a computer whether it's a Mac or a Windows PC, so it's probablly a better idea to give them a Mac that won't break itself or get infected with all kinds of viruses and spyware.
You also have to remember that Windows isn't the only way to play a game. Ever heard of consoles? They're generally preferable because everything can be optimized for one set of hardware, so everything is less glitchy and complicated, meaning you get to have fun sooner without having to troubleshoot problems. - Rice, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Is that all people on digg do, is game?
Seriously? - burke, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2There's something wrong when we're looking at print ads as a video over the internet.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+6Interesting ad. Totally Apple's style, but really. It's a waste of paper.
- anonym41414, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0If you think iPhoto and Photoshop are similar programs, you're either talking out your ass or full of crap.
Hint: The fact that they both have the word "photo" in their names does not indicate that they do the same things. - DeezKnots, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2"i quit reading wired when i realized they were pro-apple... now i just don't read any print."
Apple isn't going to take your Microsoft away... Make the switch, have both, Windows runs better on a Mac than any PC Anyway. I'll even help you if you have any questions. Even VISTA "ooooooo ahhhhh" runs on a Mac. What PC do you have? I bet it's a cheap piece of *****. Post a link so we can all check out this superior cheapy system lol. I bet you built it yourself and it has neon lites in the case lol... doesn't it!
What a Goober. - combatchuck, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I still have a subscription to Wired for whatever reason. I'm not paying for it, haven't paid for a while, but they keep sending me books. What I do when it comes is read the cover and throw the book away. There is no content worth reading in that rag.
- Schematics, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1LOL @ all the pc / mac hating going on. You people need to get on with it for Pete's sake. PCs aren't better than Macs, or visa versa. It's personal preference you idiots. It's utterly immature to see someone bash on someone else(or Microsoft/Apple directly) just because someone else likes something by them.
Grow up. I love my Mac, but I'm not about to give an ish what anyone else thinks about that. Your preference doesn't(and never will) influence mine. If someone likes posting Apple-related content, for God's sake SHUT UP if you don't like it. JUST DON'T READ IT. If you have at least a double-digit IQ, you should be able to grasp such a simple concept! -
