- chesswiz200, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11very useful, but an accesory for 200 bucks is a of money for a 300 dollar iPod
- Flashman, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10Instant iPod porno!
- pudquick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I found this page which reviewed it in Japanese:
http://www.watch.impress.co.jp.nyud.net:8090/av/docs/20060704/imj1.htm
Even better though is the links they provide to sample movies at all 4 rates:
http://www.watch.impress.co.jp.nyud.net:8090/av/docs/20060704/iluvsam1.mov
http://www.watch.impress.co.jp.nyud.net:8090/av/docs/20060704/iluvsam2.mov

http://www.watch.impress.co.jp.nyud.net:8090/av/docs/20060704/iluvsam4.mov
The basics - Everything is recorded as:
- Quicktime movie format (.mov file) containing a muxed mp4 stream with ...
- MP4 video, 320x240, 29.97 fps
- MP4 audio (AAC), Stereo, 48kHz, 16 bit
They appear to be constant bitrate encodings, the only difference I could find among the 4 samples. - ultimathule, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4That was a sentence.
Barely. - spin-docta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3How is the video quality? I don't see anything here about it.
- Wickerman392, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I can just imagine the video quality of that dock. First of all, its going to be "one pass" with a high probability that its CBR(constant bit rate). Second of all you will be using analog inputs, hopefully S-video. Third, what codec is it using? But all things considered, the ppl that are using it probably won't be video enthusiasts and it is a tiny screen, so the quality matters even less. I am pretty sure that Macrovision will ***** things up for anyone attempting to encode some DVD video tho, so watch out if you get it. Long live AviSynth, DGIndex and MeGUI(Best encoding app ever, google it)!
- tafty86, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"4 different recording time settings: 30min, 60min, 120min, 180min
Enable to set video recording quality, (512kbps / 768kbps / 1M / 1.5M)"
-from the site - subscriber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The article doesn't mention whether or not it uses macrovision or some other scheme to prevent you from recording from DVD ... and I would suspect that the MPAA would insist on that.
- djrange, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1sucks. WTF.
- thehacker123, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2its a great idea but if it were 100$ i would get it
and it would be smart of apple to intergrate that into the ipod - metalica77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hello piracy. Everyone knows that there are ways to get music off an ipod but there definatly ways to get videos off of it to. And since the Luv thing converts it u can put it to ipod torrent sites yippy!
- LordSkywalker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Cool I guess, but for 200 bucks it just doesn't seem worth it.
And does it even specify resolution? If I record tv, I would want to play it back on at the same quality, not low-res ipod video resolution. - AhmedB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very clever idea, had it been out before the Fifa World Cup I would've bought one right away (and the associated iPod), had to buy a DVD-R to record the games to watch em later.
- NSResponder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Good question. IIRC, the iPod will play both H264 and MPEG-2 video, and I'm pretty sure that if they were using H264, they would announce that quite prominently on their web page.
-jcr - cgomez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Stupid name, cool product, a bit expesnive (but hey, since when has price ever stopped an iPod accesory?).
- Kronosreaver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1a 5$ cable ordered online, or picked up at radio shack.... Or the 40$ Apple version and you can output from your iPodVideo directly to any TV or other display that accepts a standard RCA composite Input.
- jacks0n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't get it... Why would you use it? For $200, that's pretty pointless.
If you're streaming/recording from your VHS/DVD player, you can just copy it onto your computer, then onto your ipod. Sure it takes longer ... but for $200, you could buy accessories alot more useful. - Kronosreaver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why would you assume that? iTunes doesn't delete MP3s that come from somewhere other than iTunes, why should they for Video?
There are a ton of software options for converting your own content, DVD, or just Files, into formats the iPod will play, as well as plenty of sources on the net for downloading video thats already been setup for the iPod. - duzins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It may be pricey for the 30G ipod owners, but to have a very portable 60G harddrive for vidcasting purposes is sweet imo.
- mardigrasnut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1as much as I would like to play with something like that, the price is to high for me.
- joerod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1great idea, but the price is to high
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Personally I think this device that lets you record full quality DV video is more interesting:
http://www.digg.com/tech_news/Record_video_from_your_digital_camcorder_directly_to_your_Ipod - barnis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1if your could play video on your TV using this it would be a cool product as then you could use it as a portable TIVO-like system...simple recording to it doesn't really do much for me especially for $200
- allankok, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If I have to spend $200 just to have it converted, perhaps I'd rather go through the hassle of converting it manually.
http://www.pspvideo9.com. Converts most vids to mp4. Works for psp. Not a problem for Ipod - d1g1ta7, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4wonder how iTunes reacts when it sees videos on the iPod it didn't put on it, I assume they'll get deleted
- Reved2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Surprisingly, iLuv is a Jwin brand. They've really been putting out great products for years and but always passed up for being a cheap brand. The brand name change for ipod products has really helped. Past jwin ipod products are still on the shelves, but iluv has been selling at my store.
- dadaozei, on 03/13/2009, -0/+0IPod Movie Converter, the best video to iPod converter, can convert video of all popular formats to iPod video, convert music of all popular audio formats to iPod music and extract the audio tracks from video to iPod music.
http://www.convertdvdtoipod.org/ - converger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This isn't the real deal.. yet.. but i love the modular way they are putting things together.. it's like video ipod transformers... now it's an ipod, now it's a tivo, now it's a portable DVD player,.. when this thing morphs into a lamborghini on command.. then I will be impressed, in the meantime.. hey Mr. Jobs,, do you sense a direction here?
- newsmaker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I got email from them. It will be under $200. they said the price is not finalized yet. the unit will be avaiable in mid of august. Let's wait!
- stomasello, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0A competing product will actually be released by the time this thing ships that does the same thing, better and cheaper. It will be well under $200, and will record in iTunes standard H.264 (768Kbps)...Watch for it...
- tamboink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0so is this product out yet? has anyone tried using this already?
- Mobier, on 02/12/2009, -0/+0Glad to know that.
And if you want to transfer you recorded audio to your computer or iTunes, simply use this iPod to computer transfer program
http://www.gutensoft.com/Utilities/Tansee-iPod-Tra ... - newsmaker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good News!!!
The price will be adjusted around $130 USD. - ejbeckner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0No remote? that sucks!
- mujei2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good information !!!!
- RuneSpells, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I agree that an accessory thats as much as an iPod itself is a bit... much... maybe for 100 i would consider it :D
- H3BR3W, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Wow, this is an incredibly useful dock.
It is a bit pricey, but they next time I get one of my higher paychecks, I'll definitely try picking it up. That, or I'll just keep an eye on it and see if the price drops over the next couple months. While it is neat, it's not really something I need right away. - mementh, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1it looks good.. as a idea... and yes its not gonna be the enthusiest using it
- Knives, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2Cool, Too bad I bought my iPod ONE MONTH befor the video iPods came out! I was so mad!
