- s0m31john, on 07/30/2008, -3/+63There are 3000 people in Wyoming?
- gcnaddict, on 07/30/2008, -8/+60The blind taste test isn't controversial at all. If Apple was in a similar situation with Leopard, Apple fanboys would be *applauding* Apple's decision to do a similar marketing campaign, using such adjectives as "ingenious," "inventive," "creative," "smart," etc.
God damn, you guys. What the ***** is so controversial about Microsoft doing it? - MacParrot, on 07/30/2008, -0/+22I've said for awhile that I don't understand the hatred for Vista. Sure it had some problems when it first came out, what OS (including OS X) doesn't? Do any of you remember the XP issues when THAT first came out? MS worked on it, squashed some bugs and now many refuse to move to Vista.
I could talk about the problems I had with PPC Macs with 10.5, but it's been done to death.
Look guys, XP is going away. Vista is at the point for home users that it makes little sense not to consider it for your own use. Business users have different priorities so it makes sense for them to hold back, but if you're just doing the usual stuff, Vista should be fine. - WELLDOITLIVE, on 07/30/2008, -9/+26I've had Vista for 6 months now, it hasn't slowed down one bit. I have disabled UAC and a bunch of unnecessary services the same way I do on my XP machine which helps in general, but it's still a rock solid OS.
- daGUY, on 07/30/2008, -2/+18My bet is that they'll add GPS. Why not? The iPod already has the Maps application, but you have to be within range of WiFi to make any use of it.
- gcnaddict, on 07/30/2008, -4/+20Oh yay, here comes the Apple bury brigade.
- Chicken, on 07/30/2008, -2/+16All my friends and the customers of the comp shop I work at have no problem with printer compatiblity.. you don't even need to install drivers so I don't know what you're talking about.
- PabloMac, on 07/30/2008, -2/+14Choose your wisecrack reply:
a) Anticipated in the next census.
b) No, but the Wyoming Digg users buried you. Both of them.
c) both a & b. - CalcProgrammer1, on 07/30/2008, -2/+13In fact, I just installed XP alongside Vista. Vista actually outperforms XP on my particular PC in games, so I'm sticking with Vista. I haven't had any more problems with Vista than I've had in XP, so I don't see a problem with it.
- speakafreaka, on 07/30/2008, -2/+12Exactly.. it makes sense on the iphone because of the persistent connection.
I dont know why apple just doesnt allow the maps (without sat images) to be stored on the iphone/ipod.. Its so annoying on my touch to have to have a connection to use the app. - SkippyDoorknob, on 07/30/2008, -0/+9According to the Mojave Experiment website, they used an HP Pavilion DV 2000 with 2GB of RAM.
http://www.mojaveexperiment.com/facts/ - CalcProgrammer1, on 07/30/2008, -0/+9Technically, an OS is in fact a program. All software are programs. An OS just happens to be a program that can run other programs. OS also happens to run natively on system resources rather than relying on a higher program to run inside of. That doesn't make it any less of a program though. OS doesn't have to run natively on hardware anyways, it's a program that can be run inside of another program (virtualization) as well. So, technically, that is correct.
- MalharP16, on 07/30/2008, -0/+8I realize this is probably a hardware revision, but I would love to see podcasts included in the iTunes app on the iPod Touch/iPhone
- gcnaddict, on 07/30/2008, -1/+9This shows just how clueless you are with Windows Vista. The campaign used mainstream PCs (between 800-1200 dollars each), and the Vista SKU demonstrated was Home Premium, which is generally the SKU found on said "mainstream" PCs.
Also, what's the problem with printer compatibility? All of my printers work fine with it, and they're all at least a few years old. - duk0r, on 07/30/2008, -6/+13Yeah, XP is solid as well. So whats the big deal?
- Trixrox, on 07/30/2008, -2/+9If printer compatibility is all someone has to worry about, then I'd say Vista is pretty damn good.
Come on, who has a printer ( that is worth anything) that seriously doesn't work with Vista. I've used Dell, Fiery/Xerox, Ricoh, Canon, and Epson printers and never had issues. - GreenNVerdant, on 07/30/2008, -0/+7what exactly is wrong with that?
an operating system is a program! - gcnaddict, on 07/30/2008, -0/+6I can't even find that laptop on HP's site anymore, and a froogle search:
http://www.google.com/products?btnG=Search+Product ...
isn't turning up any products OVER 1200 dollars for later models!
Thanks for your help in proving my point. Dugg.
Edit: Here's an HP link for that series of notebooks:
http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/in/en/ho/WF10a/3219 ...
The series is out of date and was discontinued. In other words, the laptops used weren't even a current model. - SkippyDoorknob, on 07/30/2008, -0/+6HP Pavilion DV 2000 with 2GB of RAM
http://www.mojaveexperiment.com/facts/
Hardly seems like something "built just for this experiment" - MacParrot, on 07/30/2008, -0/+6Hopefully DRM will go away on its on merits (as in it doesn't have any)
If I had to come up with one complaint about Vista it would be all the different versions. Business, Home, Media Center should have been about it and two of those could have gone away too. - CalcProgrammer1, on 07/30/2008, -2/+8Explain my few-month-old Vista outperforming my fresh install of XP on the same PC in Garry's Mod (nVidia settings both on Quality, both Gmod settings the exact same, and still a noticeable FPS increase in Vista). Vista isn't as bad as you think. Configured right, Vista is just as good if not better than XP.
- drunkenoaf, on 07/30/2008, -0/+6That's one clever trick, hiding a new iPod touch in firmware.
The headline writer needs to read his text for sense before posting next time... - ferrariman60, on 07/30/2008, -0/+5Lol, this is exactly what I was thinking! They giving leftovers to the cows or something?
- benologist, on 07/30/2008, -0/+5You are obviously a vastly superior person if you know the difference between an OS and a program.
- elmargol, on 07/30/2008, -0/+4This is Apple, why should they give something away for free :D
They save this feature for the next version to rip you off a 2. time! - gcnaddict, on 07/30/2008, -2/+6"Vista is still slow and sloppy. Period."
Period erased. You can't just say that without saying why and backing your reasons up. - davotoast, on 07/30/2008, -0/+4can anyone tell me why this hasn't been included yet? if I could simply turn on my iPod and all my podcasts would update every evening by themselves I would buy a touch in a heartbeat. I can't think of any reasons why they wouldn't have this feature.
- beingdevious, on 07/30/2008, -0/+4definitely no microphone, definitely no camera. that would cut into sales of the iphone, espcially for the people who dont want to switch to ATT.
probably just a new back and more capacity. GPS is unlikely, but possible. - webRat, on 07/30/2008, -0/+4"promote an improved Vista" - Uh, no, they promoted Vista. o_O WTF is an "improved" Vista?
- MrViklund, on 07/30/2008, -0/+4Technology has come a long way.
Now you can hide Hardware in Software. - Evilblobs, on 07/30/2008, -1/+4I think the chrome trimmed IpodTouch is called an iphone.
- pasher1221, on 07/31/2008, -0/+3Did any body notice the "Mojave" web site is Flash not Silverlight. Opps!
- petard, on 07/30/2008, -0/+3The PC was by no means high end. Printer support? Are you kidding? I plugged my Pixma IP6600 in and the drivers were automatically installed and the printer set as default. I guess that is too hard for Mac users to do.
- johnomaz, on 07/30/2008, -1/+4BFD on the ipod section. seriously, its a new ipod, guess what, IT STILL PLAYS MUSIC!!!
As for the Vista section, look at the morons that they found. None of them actually ever used vista. They just 'heard' stuff about it and thought it was bad. Not only that, but I bet the people they heard it from never used it either. They probably only saw the PC/Mac commercials and was like...OHHHH..I get it, Vista sucks. I will no believe everything Apple gives me. Welcome to the majority of the public that uses computers, COMPLETE DUMB *****! - MScrip, on 07/30/2008, -0/+3And I have friends with 2 year old XP laptops that run like *****. So....
Is it the OS or lack of housekeeping?
All Windows computers need cleaning, even when new. Haven't you seen all the "tweaking XP" articles on the internet? My computers run great because I know how to optimize them. My friends... not so much. They have gigabytes of temp files chillin' and dozens of startup programs in their tray.... regardless of the OS. - britblogger, on 07/30/2008, -1/+4link to originating article:
http://www.iphoneatlas.com/2008/07/29/new-ipod-tou ...
sorry, but apple insider just dilutes other sites' stories. - ocellnuri, on 07/30/2008, -1/+4I think that would be the answer... allowing you to cache map data on the unit. They could build in a function where you map directions from point A to point B, and it could save all zoom levels of the areas around the route.
- nurall, on 07/30/2008, -0/+3runs great on my dell inspiron 1420 (paid $420 at the dell outlet)
not exactly a high-end laptop - inactive, on 07/30/2008, -1/+3Link to specs on the laptop please?
- UnWeave, on 07/30/2008, -0/+2They didn't. It says on the Mojave experiment site that they used an HP DV 2000 with 2GB of RAM.
http://www.mojaveexperiment.com/facts/
Look it up. - UnWeave, on 07/30/2008, -2/+4Only if you have ***** hardware. Almost all new desktops and many laptops (yeah, okay, not the EEEs etc) can run it fine.
- MScrip, on 07/30/2008, -0/+2I dunno... maybe AT&T doesn't want to cut into iPhone sales... but Apple shouldn't care. They still make money on the iPod Touch.
There are millions of potential customers, read Verizon customers, who would buy a freshened iPod Touch with GPS and a speaker and stuff. Remember when people called the iPod Touch "an iPhone without the phone?" Now I want one with GPS.
I already have a phone, and I'm thinking of getting an iPod Touch. If it came with GPS and a speaker, it's a no brainer. Music and video player, GPS, pocket maps, done.
I'll never switch to AT&T, ever. But I still wanna buy an Apple product. - DillonHinson, on 07/31/2008, -0/+2Google Earth doesn't have a "Find Me" feature like the Touch/iPhone does. You have to enter in your address to locate where you are. And just because you are using the program does not mean you are actively using GPS.
- wilhoitm, on 07/30/2008, -2/+4Stupid! You can't taste a computer! Ballmer needs to stop riding the White Horse!
- KnightWhoSaysNi, on 07/30/2008, -0/+2Vista worked horribly on my work machine. After 6 months of agony I ended up reinstalling XP.
However, this week I used Vista on my niece's brand new laptop, and the darn thing works great. Of course, the laptop's specs leave my work PC in the dust.
IOW, if you have the horsepower for it, Vista is OK.
Microsoft shot themselves in their proverbial foot when they told people that their old machines could run Vista. You will get nothing but frustration from Vista on an underpowered machine. - Harbinger1080, on 08/01/2008, -0/+1How do I digg just like... 2/3 of a post like this? Can I give a fraction of a digg?
- robwowjo, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1even though i would like to wait for a new ipod touch, i can't resist that back to school deal, only 200 bucks for the thirty-two gig! becuase my brother is buying a computer. oh well.
- GeneralFault, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1jhandfield.
Rumors are only as good as the source. In this case it was Microsoft and it's key developers that were spreading the rumors about their DRM intentions with Vista.
http://windowsvistablog.com/blogs/windowsvista/arc ... - inactive, on 07/31/2008, -0/+1At MScript - Are you stupid? You can use Google Earth because you are connected to the internet.
To get maps on the touch you need to be in reach of a wifi spot!!! - inactive, on 08/01/2008, -0/+1It was a post with multiple stories.
