- kidhero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Diggers are by far the most stupid per capita.
- skellener, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4But will we see a black iBook?
- JayRod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Getting smaller means easier to lose. Or possibly forgetting to take it out of my pocket before tossing it in the washer. Not only will it come out wet but I bet it will scratch in the spin cycle.
- Vimes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Finally! An mp3 player the size of a stick of gum is way too bulky. Personally, I wont be happy until 2007 sees the release of the iPod Micron. Small enough to integrate into your tooth fillings, it features wireless data transfer and recharges as you brush your teeth.
- ndm007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This is lame and old. On the homepage numerous times in the last few months.

Amazing what people think they know around here... - dimplemonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2coming soon,
the iPod peqeño... - roguepirate, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Apple should just kill off the shuffle and go with the nano, the shuffle was mainly made as a flash player and now that the nano is out why get a shuffle?
- ndm007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The Shuffle is still an awesome iPod. I have all three of the current iPods (shuffle, nano, video enabled) and i find my shuffle most useful. When i go out and i dont want to bulk my pockets with an iPod in case, i use my naked shuffle and listen to my favoutire playlist.
However, i dont want to see a replacment, as i dont want to buy my third iPod in 4 months ;) - listentothis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2lol
Reminds me of this

Oh dear Lord. You know nothing whatever do you. I can't stand people who think they know ***** about stuff, when they clearly dont. If your gonna talk crap, get MySpace.
....transition out of the desktop market....tut tut tut, how wrong. - thejadedmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2btw, no digg. old news, just check macrumors.com
- Nocturnal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hopefully they fix the issue with the shuffle's not fitting into certain USB slots due to the size of the base where the USB plug ends. I couldn't use it as a thumb drive on Dell computer's because it wouldn't go in at an angle.
- avantretard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I said it before. They should shrink this then give it a supper hard shell. Make it the only iPod you could take a hemmer to.
As for you people talking about losing it, do you lose your keys every day? Don't you think you would remember your MP3 player? - mcbesq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Another verson of the iPod Tampon... great.
- noticedneutrino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ipod is a great product. That being said IS HORRIBLY OVERPRICED it costs the same as an xbox 360? What a joke (although i own an iphoto and love it) next time ill just stick to PLAYS FOR SURE if you know what i mean
- mocman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I will have to say that I have had every ipod since the 2nd gen. I carry the SHUFFLE more than any other ipod.
- TripTucker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Slow sales? The shuffle is always the first model of ipod we sell out of where i work. ive got video ipods in stock, even at a cheaper price than apple sells them for, and yet it is the shuffle, which i recieve more on per shipment, that i always sell out of.
- etruscan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Stick with the Nano, kill the Shuffle, and be done with it.
- locojones, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Once you go black, you never go back.
- zwilliams, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1These comments make me laugh. I'm talking about the bashers, you guys will try to use every stupid little observance and blind opinion you can to try and put down a product that is beating the ever loving sh*t out of your "superior" players.
It boils down to: Ease of use, software bundling (iTunes, it just can't be beat), and a good product.
FM tuner? Who gives a crap. I have my library music on my iPod, why do I want to listen to bored shockjocks on FM? Do you enjoy bad skits and commercials that much to warrant an FM player?
Proprietary? Apple doesn't stop me from playing my unprotected MP3, MP4 (AAC), and others.
LCD for the shuffle? Ummm, I'm sure everyone who is working out, jogging, and other intensive physical activities just loves stopping, looking at a screen to pick out music. The shuffle is aimed at an audience that is too busy with doing other things than manipulating their playlists. - Swampthing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nice crafty and deceptive editorializing on the story, brianmuse. Nowhere in the article does it mention anything about "sluggish sales," that's YOUR OWN addition. I think your bias is showing through...

^ dude. my friend put his in the wash lol - dhakbar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"$99 for 512MB & $130 for 1GB is poor pricing. The 512MB Shuffle should be $65 (maybe $75 tops) considering that the only difference is capacity is divided in half. Ideally the 1GB should be $99 and the 512MB should be $50 (maybe $60 tops). Then the price & features would be in a better alignment."
They don't charge $65 because it obliterates their positive profit margin. The hard drive is not the only part in an iPod, and it does not constitute the entire cost of manufacture. It's simple economics... it doesn't cost much more to make the 1GB version than it does the 512MB one. - cjstone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sorry, you're just plain illiterate:

I am amazed at what you just said, and very concerned for you at the same time. I cannot understand how you cited the proper use for the contraction of "it is" (it's), and are now arguing for its improper usage.
It's a shame that today's youth does not value its education.
WTF are you talking about? I was agreeing that "it's" was used improperly in the original post. Try reading more carefully next time... - nanoguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why is a month old piece of news being Dugg? This same piece of news was Dugg on NOv 17th!!! I forgot this is Digg. They need negative Diggs.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"I like the ipod but I would never buy one. It's overpriced :( Why buy 30 gigs for $300 when you can get 40 gigs for $256?"
Why buy a Mercedies when you could buy a riced up Honda Civic. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1btw, I liked how apple branded their new iPod... "oh, yeah, PLUS it does video..."
That might be a good way to brand the phone... "here's the new iPod, oh yeah, by the way, it makes phone calls..." - SaintStryfe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1PErsonally, I'd like the shuffle to be a bit smaller... tapered maybe so it'll fit comfortably in a regular USB port.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1All I have is a shuffle. There is nothing that would make me buy a new one.
As far as I'm concerned, Apple needs to be working on a phone (a real one, not the ROKR), because the next thing I want is convergence... less devices to carry around. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yea i had that proble to on some pcs ot wont coect because the back plate is to thick and u need to buy the dock or a cable
- d3designs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I knew they had to do something when the iPod nano was THINER than the Shuffle. If they could just thin it a bit, and round the edges like the other iPods it would be nice.
Then if they really want to notch it up add a nice small OLED display.
Also, you may not know this, but the current iPod Shuffle has the ABSOLUTE BEST audio quality of any MP3 player. (beating the higher end iPods as well - src. PCMAG Lab testing) - jketch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The shuffle may not be that great as a stand alone MP3 player, but it's great if I want to listen to some music while running. The lack of a screen isn't really a drawback then becasue you can't really manipulate the thing while you're running anyway. Yeah, there are probably some cheper MP3 players than the shuffle for the same capacity, but why would I want to either rebuy all the music I've bought from iTunes or try to go through the hassle of removing DRM to save ten bucks.
- mntpng, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Apple's iPod does indeed have this halo effect that's hard to describe. I've stayed away from iPod as long as I could but I finally got an iPod nano as a gift few months ago. Now I want to buy iPod Shuffle because I can see how useful that could be. When going for a long walk I can just drop dozen favorite songs on it and go. It really doesn't need a screen for this very purpose. I for one look forward to the new iPod shuffle. Black one would be nice. It would match my iPod nano. :)
- RickySan65, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"and about them going away anytime soon...I was at the train station when that dude got killed by the Air Marshal. I heard if realy fast, and wanted news. I asked my 5 or so friends if anyone had a radio. All anyone had was an iPod. Not just an MP3 player, and Ipod."
And your point is what exactly? - M3wThr33, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Heaven forbid Apple tries to make a profit. They price it at what the market will bear.
Anyways, I have a 4G 40GB and a 512MB Shuffle. I typically use them in equal amounts. My mp3 library is far beyond 40GB, so I have to be selective about what goes on the 40GB one. With the shuffle, I can specify themes and not worry about what's coming up next. With 150 songs or so, I'm usually back to update it before running out. In the car, the regular iPod rules of course, hooked up to my sound system.
Yes, I have two iPods, and I use them both. - pentomino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The iPod Shuffle is useful for people who can't see the tiny screen on a Nano, or want to be able to operate their iPod without looking at it, or who never want to worry about losing their iPod to a damaged screen. That would be me.
A black Shuffle would definitely be easier to lose than a white one. - analogtyler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2

no... He's right.
Anyway, glad to see apple has learned NOTHING from the nano, people dont really want smaller. They want cheaper, with colors. If apple put some of the components they have now for the nano in an ipod mini case with a big battery they'd have a killer product. Your battery life would be like 40 hours (since it's flash), it would feel more solid (the battery gives a good weight), it'd have a color screen, it would be more durable (fewer scratches, flash so no moving parts), there would be colors for women (for whom they are really a major selling point), and it would be just the right size.
They need to learn that smaller != better and black & white doesnt sell with women like actual colors do. - blkwolf359, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I would love to see a screen but for those who keep saying the shuffle is junk don't understand what the shuffle is really made for. The shuffle is flash memory. Flash memory has no moving parts (aka hard drive like all the other iPods). Because of this you can RUN and exercise with the shuffle and not damage the unit. The most you should be doing with the regular iPods is walking otherwise you risk damaging the heads/platters on the hard drive. That and the fact that the 1GB shuffle makes a good combo mp3 player/mem stick is about all it is good for.
There, that's my $0.02 - gatorsrule21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1well said kidhero
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1my guess is they will make it look like what Kevin rose thought the iPod nano would the day before it came out http://img399.imageshack.us/img399/7035/nano3yn.jpg Also I bet they have a 1gb version for $150 and a 2gb version for $200
- TheRealStyro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think the first thing Apple should do is move the price points on the existing Shuffles, then introduce a newer model with enhanced features and/or capacity.
$99 for 512MB & $130 for 1GB is poor pricing. The 512MB Shuffle should be $65 (maybe $75 tops) considering that the only difference is capacity is divided in half. - tempusrob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The iPod will never lose steam so long as the iTMS is the only music store worth using...
- Rocketgeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hey it's not a Sony... I'll buy it :-)
And you can then load non Sony BMG music onto it :-)
A small LCD would be useful though. Either a display on the existing form factor, or go quite a bit smaller (if possible). - MonkeyFit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@listentothis
HAHAHAHAHAHA. That is hilarious. - Deuterium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"As for iPod going away, let me just say this: I work for a company that develops assessment products. In the course of developing a new test, one of the scenarios presented involves a theft: the original version said "mp3 player". Generally, people had no idea what we were talking about. So we switched it to say "iPod". People understood that, knew precisely what we were talking about, almost irregardless of age or background.
Yeah, iPod's not going anywhere."
Unfortunately for Apple history shows no companies that maintain the dominance they currently show in a product market. 80% market share will certainly not last barring any illegal movement by Apples part, of course this is Steve Jobbs' company we are talking about.
iPod could probably just become another diluted trademark synonymous with a product line just as XEROX, ASPIRIN, THERMOS, SHREDDED WHEAT, ESCALATOR, CELLOPHANE, NYLON are today. - swifty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I love my Shuffle, and don't really see how it can be improved upon. I agree that it already small enough and the fact that it may be come in black now doesn't do much for me. One change that would be nice to see is the ability to carry more than one playlist. For example, I use my Shuffle exclusively for weight lifting and conditioning. However I would love to use it when walking from class to class at school, while shopping, etc. The only problem is that I don't want to listen to my weightlifting tunes at those times, and constantly swapping playlists via iTunes is not practical.
