- SilentSpyder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+42If anything I'd say to make the mini a bit bigger in order to make it better. I wouldn't mind it being an inch taller if it means better inards.
- TriZz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+34The first paragraph is:
"OK, this one has our BS meter beeping, not because it can’t/won’t happen, but because, as our faithful readers know, we have only received 1 legitimate anonymous tip in our whole sticking history."
Why is this news...? - jcblitz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+29 [fingers crossed] mac mini video upgrades [/fingers crossed]
I'd like to upgrade from my g4 mini but not until the video isn't awful. - Gerolsteiner, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19@silentspyder:
That's what she said? - fanboydcs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16It would be cool if it had the Nvidia 7300 like the AppleTV does. With HDMI out.. A man can dream..
- deuceswilde, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16They could get rid of the mini altogether if they released a new Cube. A cube with replaceable parts in a minitower format would be close to the ideal computer for a large number of people.
- The_Larch, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18Apple up another $1.16 today to over $105...
- rob08, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14lol, Kim Jramer => from mad moneys Jim Kramer
- SilentSpyder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14I don't know if it's because I've been using macs for so long, or because I'm not a gamer. But am I the only one who doesn't know nor care about the graphics card as long as it has one? Any card will work for the average user.
- itsme92, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Dude, it's a budget computer for a reason
- itsme92, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I wouldn't mind the mini getting less mini in order to accomadate a 3.5" hard drive. The sizes of the mini's hard drives are embarassing.
- LayZAss2I, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10i welcome the stock split. it usually tends to drive the stock even higher.
- JavertHolmes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I agree in some ways -- people buying into thinking the split will make it go higher (which it will like you say), or people who can now afford one share being able to buy -- but for value investors or people who pay any attention to the P/E or PEG ratios, the split is pretty much meaningless.
- chadu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Why do you need a power button on the front? It's a mini. The buttons location is only 6 inches from the front when it's on the back anyway.
- borninda818, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7it's not that bad...from my experience it is better than the 7300...u did mean 7300 right cuz i have never heard of the 6300.
http://www.sharkyextreme.com/img/2006/06/gig_x1600pro/3dmark_2006.jpg - doctorcaligari, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8The x1600 is not a bad card, but it is budget level at best (along with the 7300). The only iMac with a real gaming-class card is the 24" with a 7600GT.
Hey, at least Apple is improving. For a time there, they actually put FX5200's in their iMacs, and was proud of it (don't worry, the 5200 fooled me for a time as well. The fastest I ever ran it was when I threw it out the car window). - RevMark, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Mini-Shmini.
There needs to be an intermediate MacPro tower. Something about half height, 1 or 2 C2D procs, 3 or 4 pci's. But certainly something in the ATC or mid tower range. The MP is too big, and the iMacs are the wrong form factor for my needs. - bedrock, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Proving to the world that it doesn't take any credibility to make the latest Apple rumour hit the front page.
- torifile, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5If you'll remember, AAPL split just recently. It was at about $90 pre-split. It's now at $210 split adjusted. The gains may be given back short-term but a good stock will continue to grow. AAPL is going to help me retire (in 30 years) very comfortably.
- lateralus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4they should offer updated core 2 duo's with:
1GB ram standard (1DIMM!!!)
power button in the front, maybe
standard superdrive
bigger hd's
improved video...with it's own dedicated vram. - Shorties, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3All I am waiting for is a updated Macbook Pro, the day they announce one I will buy it (I just don't want to get one now since its been a good while since an upgrade in the line and I am afraid they will release a new one as soon as I buy the current one.)
- leonbev, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6It's smart thinking, if you want to make a quick buck:
1) Buy some Apple stock (Perhaps a ton of Apple stock on margin or Apple options if you wanted to up the reward and the risk level)
2) Post rumor about new products on Digg
3) Watch in delight as the Apple fanboys promote it to the front page
4) Crack a smile as gullible people fall for the rumor and jack up the stock price for a few hours.
5) Sell the stock for a tidy profit (Perhaps it sell short as well if you want to get REALLY greedy and make even more money as people come to their senses and the stock comes back down)
I'd expect nothing less from someone who uses the pen name "Kim Jramer". Bravo! - GotMex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm as much an Apple fan as the next fanboy, but come on now. The article itself claims it is just BS, and the source is just "a reader". Guess I should know better by now, but I'm still shocked when Apple news makes the front page for the sake of being about Apple.
- opnickc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3There are people who're waiting to buy until there are updates.
- Kdurrty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hopefully, the mini's will get core 2's and wireless pre-N.
- SilentSpyder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3While I did read this because I'm dying for apple upgrades, I didn't digg it because it was just a rumor. Just because you read a headline does not mean you have to digg it.
- flenders, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The first mac to get a blu-ray drive is the Mac Pro.
- rockdawg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i would love to buy some apple stock.. if only i had the money
- johnpaul191, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1when did Apple ever pay dividends? seriously. i've had a small amount of AAPL for 6 or 7 years and never remember them paying even a 1 time dividend.
i'll have to look this up later, but i am not sure they ever did..... - crazybrit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No they don't...
http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?family=Macmini - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3The only valid thing is this article:
"I’d much rather see Apple announce the return of dividends."
NO *****. The continued failure to pay dividends to investors, with cash flow and holdings like this, is an insult and a disgrace. To reduce your shareholders to gamblers, with every incentive to bail out instead of being long-term investors, is no way to run a business. - bels, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1more excited about a split.
- incongruity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1~1995?
- lou2005, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Even if this isn't a good tip it seems to make sense and could be a good bet. Both the mac mini and the imac are due for updates and both have had the same form factor for a long time. With new Intel chips could they be even slimmer?
- myfanwy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@lazyass
it rarely keeps that growth though, usually a climb then soon after a similar drop
meaningless unless you're a short-term investor
new iMacs good though. maybe one with a PCI-E slot to put decent graphics in. please
but i don't believe this - macenstein is all hype - torifile, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Umm, when the stock is bought by more people, the stock price goes up, benefiting the shareholders. I guess that's the "company" but who else would it benefit? Starving kids in the third world? o.O
- rtrypowred, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Agreed. My fiancé and I have been holding off on getting her a mini for about 6 months now, waiting for a product refresh.
- Loyaleagle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2yeah, in my understanding, a split really just benefits the company by allowing their stock to be bought by more people.....i don't think it really means anything to investors more than a possible rally for one day....
- wael, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1right.
splitting a stock => increases the numbers of shares outstanding => lowers the bid/ask spread => increases liquidity
(basically the opposite of Warren Buffett's strategy for Berkshire Hathaway stock, where high spreads keep out short term traders) - lateralus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4they do exist, you know?
- trghpy, on 10/12/2007, -10/+10Mac Mini is always going to have a cheep video card. It does seem to run pretty well as it is though.
Maybe they'll shrink the mac mini to the size of the mac tv. - Ecowarrior, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I'll tell you a couple of express card slots and eSATA connectors wouldn't be out of place on a Mac Mini
- abhim8, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1yea, i heard there was going to be an ipod announcement today. i wonder what happened?
don't trust any apple rumor unless its from think secret on any day except on april 1st. - Balanced, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I think they took care of your request retroactively months ago!
- streak, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Google's share price has been "ginormous" since the company went public, yet it hasn't split. Clearly, the board of directors believes the high price remains tenuous and not a good value.
- Anth, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Kim Jramer? Dont you mean Jim Kramer (from CNBC's MAD MONEY).
- crazybrit, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I'd really like a Core 2 Duo mini.
- deadmitch, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Dugg down for being an unfounded beat-up.
FTA - "we caution anyone to put too much credence in this. We fully admit we are posting this merely because it is a slow news day, and we like to try to post something every day, if possible. Mr./Mrs. Jramer had no additional info on what the hardware updates would consist of, further shrinking the chance this is anything but educated (or not) guessing." - 4househead4, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1/cheer @ bedrock2, exactly what I was thinking!
- webguy2k, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4'i before e, except after c'.... (digg me down if you want)
The most likely reason that they do not is: 1, to have fewer product codes. 2. is to give the consumer the best choice for their needs. An average consumer doesn't need a top of the line Graphics card. Now, having an option isn't bad, but it's easier. What would be even better would be to make the video card user replaceable and allow upgrades that way. -
