- selfdisplaced, on 01/15/2008, -0/+37I thought Gmail was good enough on the iPhone when they released IMAP support.
- Karmavs, on 01/15/2008, -2/+23IMAP FTW
- frogstik, on 01/15/2008, -8/+26POP3? No way, IMAP FTW.
- allenb, on 01/15/2008, -0/+17You can. Mail.app on the iPhone, using POP3 or IMAP (especially IMAP - keeps the unread count right) is fantastic for Gmail.
If you've got an iPod touch, jailbreak it and put Mail.app on it. It's definitely worth the trouble. - luchid, on 01/15/2008, -0/+14There's support for IMAP on both Gmail and the mail app on the iPhone.
- ElbertF, on 01/15/2008, -3/+14So what, I'm 8.
- Chewie67, on 01/15/2008, -0/+8Why wouldn't you just use the Mail icon on the iPhone instead of surfing the web to Google?
Seems silly to me... - mrgreen4242, on 01/15/2008, -1/+8WTF do you want to sort by sender in Gmail? Why would you want to sort by anything in Gmail? YOU SEARCH IN GMAIL not sort. If you just quit trying to make Gmail a web version of Outlook you'll find it's vastly superior.
- Angostura, on 01/15/2008, -0/+7Agreed. Damn handy for the iPod Touch, though.
- stormbreaker, on 01/15/2008, -2/+9POP3 sucks with gmail on the iPhone. IMAP is far superior and allows for starring, archiving, and more.
- sparced, on 01/15/2008, -0/+7I'm also more than happy with the IMAP support in the iPhone's dedicated Mail app.
- teh_techie, on 01/15/2008, -1/+7mail.app+IMAP FTW
- funkytaco, on 01/15/2008, -0/+5Too old for you, man. Give it up.
- jopjop, on 01/15/2008, -0/+5I'm using the iPhone in the UK right now and edge is surprisingly good.
- Ireland, on 01/15/2008, -7/+12It's nice.
- saveryuk, on 01/15/2008, -0/+5It's lovely - way better and more useable now. Discovered the update last night (UK time).
- aptmunich, on 01/15/2008, -0/+5From the article: "Google Apps users with custom domains can also use this new Gmail interface by visiting mail.google.com/a/yourdomain.com."
- ricksite, on 01/15/2008, -1/+5You can save a draft by clicking 'Cancel' then 'Save'.
- Naptown, on 01/15/2008, -0/+4Turn on new gmail features before they are rolled out to custom domains (may take 2 days or so).
1. Log in to the control panel at https://www.google.com/a/your_domain.com. Be sure to replace 'your_domain.com' with your actual domain name.
2. Click Domain settings.
3. Under the General tab, and in the Control panel section, select the radio button next to Next generation.
4. Check the box next to Turn on new application features to my domain before they are rolled out to all Google Apps customers.
5. Click Save changes.

- bkemper, on 01/15/2008, -0/+3Seems pretty intuitive to me. "Cancel" means that you don't want to send it right now, which is also what "drafts" are for.
- igtats, on 01/15/2008, -0/+3does the Jan08 iphone update inclue FLASH for iphone????
- teh_techie, on 01/15/2008, -0/+2indeed... I hate using it vertically. It still does, however, have a GREAT auto-correct-as-you-type feature. Picks up 99% of the words I thrash out on that thing.
- beerbarron, on 01/15/2008, -0/+2If this was made available for offline use, that would be handy
- jopjop, on 01/15/2008, -0/+2So nice to use the longer horizontal keyboard to write emails...
- domness, on 01/15/2008, -3/+5Ooo that's pretty cool :)
I reckon the iPhones email app will probably top this in speed though with saved messages on the phone etc. I will probably switch between this and the local meail app until iPhone updates the email to allow starred emails, drafts etc. - TypeEE, on 01/15/2008, -0/+2but why would u depend on the browser for email when you can check email with an native app?
- xsecretfiles, on 01/15/2008, -0/+2Unfortunately is not. See the bottom bar? left and right? and the Number TAB. It's safari, the address bar goes away when you are on a site for bigger display
- mediaphile, on 01/15/2008, -0/+2Technically Apple doesn't support unapproved apps either. Fortunately, the iPhone/iTouch community doesn't need approval.
- lordsandwich, on 01/15/2008, -0/+2Searching for older archived messages is much faster when you do it directly on Google's interface, as is forwarding messages with lots of attachments.
- ncaauwe, on 01/15/2008, -0/+2Damn, I like that. After using it I don't know if I like this or IMAP better. Probably IMAP since I can see when I have new mail on the home screen, but still. This is nice.
- mediaphile, on 01/15/2008, -0/+2It's not POP3, it's IMAP through the web interface.
- xsecretfiles, on 01/15/2008, -0/+2I noticed this last night, but unfortunately is a web app. I really wish they could implement this natively.
- adamkmccarthy, on 01/15/2008, -2/+3nice to see them rolling this out. ill still hold off on the iphone till it proves its 3g-ness here in europe though....
- championchap, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1Just curious, whereabouts in the UK?
Because when I used mine in Birmingham it was about as slow loading standard web pages as it is when I'm not actually in an EDGE area. - th1rd3y3, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1Man it would be nice if they would actually bother to support Windows Mobile phones that have been using Gmail for years. :(
- BoneStamp, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1It is beautiful, much faster to star a message now. I wish the menu loaded a little faster (cached javascript maybe?).
- zohaibusman, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1Thats cool
- JoeyDeacon, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1Any way to make this work in the UK? My broswer always jumps to Google.co.uk and the default Google Pages.
- aaronmarks, on 01/15/2008, -1/+2If Google is able to make this cool of an App for Apple's iPhone the imagine what we are going to get with Android. I do wish that Google would release a full ActiveSync plugin for Windows Mobile phones. I suppose though that Google doesn't want to have more competition than necessary when they release their own handset later this year.
- bitspace, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1It works fine for my google-hosted domain. New interface there too.
- championchap, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1Do you not find it pretty frustrating too though?
Like.. I know a guy called Asa, and every time i type his name out it "corrects" it to ASA
I know, i should be watching what i'm doing.. and for the most part it does do a great job of the words i mean to type. But just for a select few words I use it really winds me up! - EagleTG, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1According to some, the enhancements for the iPhone are merely a practice run for when Android launches. I found this in a quick Google search...
http://blogoscoped.com/archive/2007-12-20-n78.html - jazzboyrules, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1Majority of my email contacts are not yet ported to iPhone. It helps in times like these, when you suddenly remember to email someone and that person's email in not in your iPhone contacts. The new auto-completion feature is sweet.
- EagleTG, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1Apparently "good enough" wasn't good enough.
- chuuch, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1I don't see how one can tag messages using this interface - that could be a problem. More dropdown only allows you to mark/unmark and star
- transfire, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1What does if f'n matter to you why I want to sort by sender? I want to b/c that's one way to find things. You can do it any way you dumb ass wants. I mean that kind of argument is the so myopic, self-oriented and ignorant. And you got 7 diggs for that stupidity!? Unbelievable. Every email client in the world (not ust outlook) lets you sort by sender (as well as search), but gmail doesn't. So every other client programmer was a fool then? Gee if only if the great google hasd been around to let them know they are idiots.
- goflyers, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1but why would u depend on an e-mail app when you just check your mail using a browser?
- skidooer, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1I don't get the MobileSafari enabled version of Google either. I did have it appear once a few weeks ago, but it has since reverted back to the normal version again.
- ZicklePop, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1Can you report spam now from this interface?
