- iluvatar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+56if you want Apple to hurry up and release some new ipods you should go buy a current generation ipod. Apple only releases products right after you just bought the previous one.
- TeraByteTyrant, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21Those farmers have to get the crops of iPods out faster...
- Terc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8@szelij,
Yes! You're an Apple hater! Give us a break! Yes! Stop! Yes! (enough exclamation marks kid.)
Get a life...Apple isn't the worst thing ever..
They seem to be doing just fine to me... Number one in market share of an entire industry (mp3 players) for several year straight seems to justify some followers. - HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6The battery life in the thin video is much more than 8 hours, and the thick video iPod has a larger battery and thus lasts 50% longer. You could easily discover this by simply looking at Apple's website.
Furthermore, the thin video iPod doesn't have the longest playtime of current iPods. It actually has the shortest. The nano last longer, and the thick iPod last longer than either of them. I don't know where shuffle fits in.
Finally, installing Rockbox doesn't improve the audio quality.
I'm really having trouble figured out which part of your post is actually correct.
And Nalin:
The iPod doesn't support WMA. Do you even know what you're talking about? - jamsea, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8There's no such thing as an "new" iPod.
The moment you buy one there's a new "new" iPod in the works :P - BassCadet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Looks like I get to keep saving that money up for the 8gig Nano. Good things come to those who wait.
- Ilyanep, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Haha I've had a Video iPod for like 4 months now and love love love it as opposed to the people who heard the new iPod rumors and have been not buying anything for a year now.
- shiftt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5..but not to those who wait too late.
- puny_midget, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Consumers don't care about high fidelity, not when most of their music comes in mp3 format. I am generalizing, of course.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4But the Creative Zen Nano 45DJ S Mp3 4 Gigabyte Network Edition is an awesome mp3 player!
Hell Creative Technologies even invented the heirachy for organising music by artists, albums, and genre!!
/sarcasm - ohmar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Yeah, that was your own fault. A blind man in a dark room full of fog could have seen the intel notebooks coming. Of course, this is not waying taht i dont want to trade my powerbook in for a macbook, but what can you do. It is the way they work.
- turbodigg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I have a question for all you anti iPod folks
Show Me a mp3 player that is
-sleek
-thin
-plays videos
-has either 30 or 60 Gb
-shiny
-has a clean interface
-Touch buttons
-uses the internets largest online muisic store
-and most important, comes with good software that doesnt SUCK
until then NO MORE APPLE BASHING!! - ocram, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Describe the iPod, and you'll get the iPod. Duh.
-uses the internets largest online muisic store
I'm not sure how that would be considered a benefit.
-and most important, comes with good software that doesnt SUCK
iTunes sucks. Sure, maybe it sucks less than WMP, but it still sucks. If you don't use MP3, AAC or Apple Lossless, you're SOL and, at least on Windows, it is unresponsive and a memory hog. - jreno3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Like when I bought my 15" Powerbook in late december. ERRRRRR
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"There's no such thing as an "new" iPod.
The moment you buy one there's a new "new" iPod in the works :P"
Honestly, who is such a poser that they have to have the latest thing by Apple? It's not like there are any major advancements in technology.
I still have a 4th generation iPod that does everything it's suppose to do, ie, store and play a hell of a lot of mp3s.
That's exactly why people bought them. - undersky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i think what he meant by supporting wma was that iTune would convert wma for u automatically into mp3, thus it's really the same as supporting it, at least for me.
video ipod honestly have bad battery life for video playback. u can't even finish a movie on a fully charged 30GB iPod. (1.5 hrs is the video playback.) That's why i returned it, i wanted to wait for the next generation to come out. And I thought it was coming out on April 1st....
btw, bestbuy doesn't charge 10% restocking fee when u return iPod but Apple store does!
also, people shouldn't give thumb-down just because they don't agree with the post. there is always going to be a minority voice in the community and that's what creates a dialog. If the majority eliminate the minority opinion this community will be pretty boring and monotonic.
unless it's abusive post and total non-sense, ppl really shouldn't give thumb down. cuz it discourages free passage of speech and thought. - volcomjerk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3http://www.macrumors.com/buyersguide
- LoadStar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I'm flagging this inaccurate. First off, you can't "delay" a product that hasn't been announced yet. Second, there's no substantiation behind this report whatsoever... it's just one Wall Street analyst pulling information straight out of his backside.
- biff198, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Perhaps this is just a gimmick. Everyone knows that if you say an updated version of something is coming out soon, people won't buy the current version. They will just wait for a while until the new one comes out. But, if you start a rumor that a new version won't be out for a long time, people will be more willing to just buy what's available rather than wait.
- Bootes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You are not required to use iTunes at all. The iPod is created to work with iTunes specifically but there are a huge number of alternatives.
No offense, I can see why some people would like other MP3 players. Yes there are plenty of other players that can do what an iPod can't however a lot of your arguments do not make sense.
Who does not have ID3 tags? Who wants to make folders and move files around to organize their music? Who wants to play FLAC and OGG?
The first two I don't understand at all. I can see how people might want the other formats. However, for all of them there is probably less than 10% of Digg that would want these features and Digg probably makes up less than 0.1% of the world.
Also to the person complaining about iTunes on Windows. iTunes may not be the most memory efficient application on Windows, however it still isn't bad. iTunes runs perfectly well on my Macs and my gaming PC. It also runs fine on my sisters $400 Compaq that is slightly adware infested. If iTunes is unresponsive then your PC is either a 10 year old pos or you need to go run Spybot and some antivirus software. - lil_isie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I like this news, that means it's a good time to buy stocks in Apple!
- wafflesomd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I will say that the Ipod Video is a very powerful player, I just don't think that Apple is using it to its full potential.
Itunes is also a huge drawback to me, I don't like getting 128 bit-rate (at least I assume it is 128 kbps) songs when I could use much higher quality 320 kbps songs on other players.
Also, take your ipod, select the Full Bass & Treble EQ, it distorts, and its not your headphones. - blamanj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is dumb. It's not a new story. This is just CNN repeating the story that was covered here (http://digg.com/apple/New_iPods_may_face_delays_-_analyst/blog) yesterday.
- Mongoose, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Apple Insider says that they may be delayed into 2007
http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=1844 - vwgtiturbo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1wafflesomd:
The current video has the best battery of them all? Do you mean, all, as in, the current crop? I bought my iPod Photo one month before the video came out (son of a...) and I have never gotten less than 12 or so hours out of it. I think once, I only got 10 or 11 when I had the backlight on and was messing with 'on the go playlists' constantly, but other than that... - klang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Apple will have their usual october-fest .. it's a tradition and they HAVE to come out with something new or modified every time competition catches up. 4GB flashplayers are around now .. time to up the ante to 8 or 12GB.
G1+G1 - 10 months on the marked
G3+G4 - 16 months
mini - 20 months
shuffle - 18 months
G5 - 9 months (still there)
nano - 10 months (still there)
Naturally, Apple will keep a product on the marked as long as possible, using capacity modifications to extend that time.
Notice how the only capacity modification within the last 9 months has been the addition of the 1GB nano. The capacity card has not been played on the current full iPod or the shuffle for that matter.
So, in conclusion... unless Apple has a fullscreen iPod scheduled for their october-fest, they will play the capacity card .. twice .. once for the nano and once for the full iPod. - edmondsonj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And if this was true why not wait till mac world when there is a larger chance for this being released.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1you guys should know not to buy anyting in december if it's still a product from the past MacWorld January...
I always buy stuff either in August or February...right after the MacWorlds - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I hope that they don't make the ipod nano any thinner or else it will break too easy
- fugazi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Damn now im going to want it for christmas along with Verizions rumored new phone. Which one to choose?
- or3n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The thing is, I don't know how much longer the iPod's popularity will last. The iPod has surely evolved and matured over the yeras, but what's left for the product? Its chief focus has been music. That's all well and good, and now we have music playing iPods in such small forms (shuffle, nano) and robust forms (iPod) that people have a nice selection of a player if they want to purchase one. And now Apple's getting into videos. On a small screen. Okay; slightly more difficult perhaps to market, but this thing may have some potential.
Assuming video works for them... what's next? Not long after the iPod mini came out, people had a limited choice of what iPod to get, yet despite the limited selection, the choices were still appealing. One either had a mini (stylish, compact) or a full iPod (more robust). By not giving the consumer a whole lot of misleading choices, the consumer, is less likely to get confused by the product line.
Now you see the iPod shuffle (how does the product's name indicate its small size?), the iPod nano (which sounds like it'd be the smallest iPod, but it really isn't; see shuffle), and the main iPod, not to mention their available colors. I think the typical "select few " types of Ipod products that Apple has been known for (the white and gray on the main iPods) have been expanding to the point where users might start to get confused again.
Even if not, my main uncertainty is how Apple can keep the iPod popular in the coming years, as music and video-playing technology becomes more advanced and ubiquitous. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1poipoi...Love how you try to pass off your opinion as fact. I am not an audiophile by any means, but I DO see a difference at 256 and 320 over 192. Not as much as the difference between 128 and 192, but it definitely is noticeable.
- Nalin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1HappyScrappy, undersky:
It was my mistake. While I was researching for my reply, I read on a webpage that iPod supported WMA. Now I know that it isn't true and I thank you for that. - dgies, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1iPods aren't that great. Unlike iRiver and Cowon players they don't offer a remote control with display, so you have to take it out of your pocket to navigate to a new song. Also, using an iPod pretty much requires you use iTunes, and have all your MP3s with the ID3 tags set. Many other players let you use them just like a USB hard drive with no special software and make it easy to navigate your collection by file name if you don't have ID3s.
- skilletsavior35, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1well they didnt say anything was a mess up so its not like their holding it back for somthing bad . If its going to be better with double the size and better battery life then take a few months longer to get it right then rush it and have a bad product. same as the PS3 ..but no one really knows wats going on with them.
- WolfwoodX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wanted to take advantage of the "Buy a Mac, Get a free iPod" deal, but it ends in September. Damn you Apple!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"New Crop of iPods delayed until December"
Looks like Apple has a shortage of Chinese workers to whip. - mayna, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think the iPods will have even more capacity and better battery life. I have an iPod video 60GB and I LOVE it. I had no desire for an iPod before these came out. I listen to music in the car with it, without having to lug CDs around (and potentially melt them). I can carry massive #'s of DVDs around on the iPod (it can perhaps hold about 300 movies) to watch in the car (either hooked up to the portable DVD player or just watch it plugged into the cig lighter). I can upload all my photos onto it to show to people, or just to offload them from my camera (great for trips). You can hook it up to your TV at home to watch movies (again, no having to store shelves and shelves of DVDs). You can dock it in one of those stereo systems or have a dock cabled to your home stereo and listen to your entire music collection anywhere.
I really can see the future of media content being entirely virtual, and people storing it on their iPods (or some other brand of portable multimedia device). - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1answer! the iPod...
oh nevermind that would be what you're describing - deckardrun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"declined to comment" lol.
- Nalin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The problem is that no audio player on the market offers all the features that one would want. If someone only cares for the old mp3 format and access to the iTunes store, then the iPod would probably be a great choice.
As for other audio players that offer similar features, the iAudio X5 is sleek and thin (by my standards anyway), plays videos (not as well as the video iPod, but it will play MPEG4 at 15 frames/second), and has 20/30/60GB versions. It isn't shiny, nor does it come with "touch" buttons. The good parts is that it also doubles as a USB mass storage device, supports FM radio, audio recording, playlist support, has a built-in equalizer, plays MP3/WMA(asf)/Vorbis/FLAC/WAV, etc.
I have looked around and no audio player really comes with everything one might want. You have to weight the pros/cons and decide which is best for you. I have no care whatsoever for the iTunes music store, so I would go with the iAudio X5 for the nice equalizer and USB mass storage modes. My father just wanted a very small and lightweight music player, so he got an iPod shuffle. - poipoipoi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1feel free to use 320k, but after 192k you're just wasting disk space.
- cvrefugee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1That's good since I just sold my 4G U2 iPod for a 5G U2 iPod (cost me about $110 to "upgrade").
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2What's wrong, are the kids in the slave shop falling over dead?

You might end up not buying the next ipod!! - undersky, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Wii + Video iPod + MacBook Pro + airline ticket to europe + Lexus IS250 + few Wii games omg my list is growing
- CornStarch, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1This new Ipod must be something special, Apple contracted out almost every aspect of the thing so they wouldn't ***** it up.
- undersky, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0this is my first day using digg, i just realized the "below threshhold limit comments" are not removed from reading but just hidden, lol.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1SHINY? Are you a ***** baby? Ooooh! Shiny! Please take my extra $100 for that added "feature" of SHINY!
- pkjay, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0No, if the ipod was a vist, then you could play games like doom and counterstrick, but it is for music. now you can't call it vista and I am the winnder
