        Great point, why single out an iPhone advert when ALL adverts use time compression? ( eg. Wow, my acne is completely gone after two weeks! )
    • GeckoSlayer, on 08/26/2008, -5/+33It's called advertising you idiot. Look at any of the major phone advertisements. You can't pick on apple just because of an advertising campaign, when all the major phone manufacturers are doing it.

      N95 - Shows live streaming video going blazing fast, also shows camera application booting up INSTANTLY after sliding the mechanism. In real life, live streaming video is HORRIBLE. And the camera takes at least 5 seconds to get inot the application.

      HTC Touch - Shows instantaneous jumps between menu to application. The MSN website loads instantly! Wow! Maybe we should buy one of these simply because websites load instantly. It also shows the touch flow technology going pretty much instantly across, and that is DEFINITELY not what happens in real life.

      Try it yourself, find advertisements from phone manufacturers and see how the advertisements are different. Why is everyone blaming apple for their advertising saying it goes twice as quick? In almost EVERY case, it DOES go twice as quick. They blame them for the browsing and things not going as quick as in the advertisements, they have 30 SECONDS to show their best and greatest features, why would they keep it all to loading bars when they could save money and show off features?

      • RG13, on 08/26/2008, -2/+5Though I agree with your point completely, there is a reason the Apple ads get flack where others don't (aside from the general Apple-hating). The first commercial you showed wasn't really in real time - it shows all the features in an accelerated sort of way. The iPhone commercial is doing the same sort of thing - a quick feature overview, not in real time - but since there is a human controlling everything, it's assumed to be in real time.
        I can barely tell what's going on in the 2nd commercial, but I think the same sort of logic applies.
        I think that's the problem with the iPhone ads - they're obviously not real-time, but try to give an impression that they are.

All other phone commercials simply show off the features. And when they are displayed on TV (vs web) most show fine print stating that for example the live stream is not real, just showing a feature.

      TV ad time is money per second. They can't show you, them downloading a game for 60 seconds because it would cost to much and is very boring to watch.

No, because you understand that it's been EDITED, and that is probably how you should start looking at these commercials too. Watch for when the cuts occur and understand the idea of the EDIT.

      You know that new Audi ad? They don't really remodel the house and lose the Mercedes inside of 30 seconds.

I am not even talking about the 3G or WIFI speeds... just the actually phone itself. Mine has never opened the AppStore that quickly or opened a game that quickly. The phone in this video is simply what I thought the iPhone would be. I love my phone but this ad makes me love it just a little less.

        Wow, so many posts from someone who has never used a Mac.

        "Closed and restricted system" only applies to the hardware, as soon as you use OS X on a daily basis you will realise that the software running under OS X is NOT "closed and restricted" (far from it).

        In fact, you will find that apps running under OS X use open and interoperable standards and protocols - as opposed to the proprietary closed and restricted Microsoft authored software under Windows.

    I love the iPhone but I and everybody else that owns one can't stand how Apple is just ***** around with people's intelligence, knowing that the iphone 3G was riddled with bugs and continues to do so. Just fix the ***** SIMPLE problems that us users are constantly ranting about. Primarily 3G. Step up man. We don't need anymore commercials so this is money just thrown out the window that could have been used to fix *****. It was all of the online forums and social sites that brought the 360's RROD into the mainstream to the point that M$ couldn't ignore the problem anymore. Let's hope the iphone 3G's problems don't reach to that point. Go ahead and bury but you know it's true.

    • Zippo, on 08/26/2008, -1/+4Maybe I'm just lucky, but I've never had any issues getting MobileMe to sync, backups take under 2 minutes, updates are decent, and I have few issues with signals. I've never had my iPhone freeze when receiving a call. I've had the iPhone since July 20th and have yet to reinstall anything.

      There's no 3G network where I live, but I've been pretty pleased with Rogers' EDGE network, even here in Newfoundland, where they only have a handful of towers.

Include last years sales and the pervious. It should be somewhere around 20 million total users base. And that doesn't include PPC and the fact that Apple hardware last double the lifespan of your typical PEECEE.

  • PurpleSfinx, on 08/26/2008, -2/+1I got my iPhone 3G about 2 weeks ago and just want to let the 1 or 2 Diggers without iPhones know that although overall I am VERY happy with it and it keeps impressing me, the apps jsut aren't that great. Fair enough, I'm speaking of free apps,and you get waht you pay for, but I find it irritating they just exit every so often. Even the facebook and myspace apps just don't work properly. Also, the interface gets laggy at times.

    Oh look, an iPhone 3g ad is on TV right now. Talking about how fast it is. IT'S NOT.

There are some decent games out there, and some great ones on the way by the looks of things, but the battery basically lasts 2.5 hours if you're playing games and that's it. I haven't even been playing 3D ones. Other than that, I like it. Sure, if you charge it every day, it might be ok. I'm just saying think about it.
