- wontstoptalking, on 08/26/2008, -11/+82Once again, it shows it going at magical, amazing speed.
- markyman, on 08/25/2008, -5/+71"Now you can shout the hell out of Keila for interrupting your game."
- btschul, on 08/26/2008, -7/+68Don't get me wrong, I love apple, I own a MacBook and will never buy a PC again, and I have never owned a non-iPod mp3 player, but this doesn't seem like Digg frontpage material. I mean, it's a commercial.
- handheldchimp, on 08/26/2008, -3/+41The iPhones they use in the commercials are made from the horns of Unicorns and the bones of Pixies.
- inactive, on 08/26/2008, -14/+47WTF?
IT'S JUST REGULAR COMMERCIAL. No parody. No point.
NICE SPAM, jerk. - GeckoSlayer, on 08/26/2008, -5/+33It's called advertising you idiot. Look at any of the major phone advertisements. You can't pick on apple just because of an advertising campaign, when all the major phone manufacturers are doing it.
Example 1:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-PxHUdur9Q
N95 - Shows live streaming video going blazing fast, also shows camera application booting up INSTANTLY after sliding the mechanism. In real life, live streaming video is HORRIBLE. And the camera takes at least 5 seconds to get inot the application.
Example 2:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6sLZiwzNsFQ
HTC Touch - Shows instantaneous jumps between menu to application. The MSN website loads instantly! Wow! Maybe we should buy one of these simply because websites load instantly. It also shows the touch flow technology going pretty much instantly across, and that is DEFINITELY not what happens in real life.
Try it yourself, find advertisements from phone manufacturers and see how the advertisements are different. Why is everyone blaming apple for their advertising saying it goes twice as quick? In almost EVERY case, it DOES go twice as quick. They blame them for the browsing and things not going as quick as in the advertisements, they have 30 SECONDS to show their best and greatest features, why would they keep it all to loading bars when they could save money and show off features? - Wickedboss, on 08/26/2008, -4/+25And This , it's MobileMe Trying to sync..
And This , it's a backup that never end....
And This , it's a update that never end...
And This , it's all the phone call you miss cause your iPhone frooze...
And This , it's your red face , cause you have to re-install everything for the third time...
By the way i wrote This on my MacBook Air , im a Apple lover , but i realy hate they new 2.0 operating system... - ryanschmidt, on 08/26/2008, -6/+21As an iPhone 1st Gen & 2nd Gen owner, let me say that I WISH my phone operated that quickly. I am not even talking about the 3G or WIFI speeds... just the actually phone itself. Mine has never opened the AppStore that quickly or opened a game that quickly. The phone in this video is simply what I thought the iPhone would be. I love my phone but this ad makes me love it just a little less.
- meghalc, on 08/26/2008, -6/+21Buried for regular commercial! Digg is not a advertisement platform for Apple.
And its not even funny like the other apple commercials. - inactive, on 08/25/2008, -13/+23Wow, their downloadable content makes better use of the hardware than the Wii's does.
- bigsteve, on 08/26/2008, -0/+9OMG are you playing games again? Why aren't you home? You never spend time with m--CLICK
- SSUK, on 08/26/2008, -3/+9You're right, because the Wii doesn't use a similar control scheme for Excite Truck, Mario Kart Wii or GT Racer. Oh wait...
- mrzeero, on 08/26/2008, -3/+9Agreed. That commercial is more a representation of this is how your iPhone will appear to work when you are on Thorazine.
- Huangism, on 08/26/2008, -1/+7why the hell is this dugg so much
- RapeApe, on 08/26/2008, -3/+9I actually watched the whole thing expecting to see a joke at the end. If I wanted to see a iPhone ad, I'd turn on the television. Buried.
- Galaxylander, on 08/26/2008, -0/+5It was on WiFi in the ad, look in the corner of the screen.
- RG13, on 08/26/2008, -2/+5Though I agree with your point completely, there is a reason the Apple ads get flack where others don't (aside from the general Apple-hating). The first commercial you showed wasn't really in real time - it shows all the features in an accelerated sort of way. The iPhone commercial is doing the same sort of thing - a quick feature overview, not in real time - but since there is a human controlling everything, it's assumed to be in real time.
I can barely tell what's going on in the 2nd commercial, but I think the same sort of logic applies.
I think that's the problem with the iPhone ads - they're obviously not real-time, but try to give an impression that they are. - gllopc, on 08/26/2008, -1/+4You need to save your post and paste it into the other 20 articles posted in the next one to two weeks regarding the iPhone and its speed.
Great examples. - Zippo, on 08/26/2008, -1/+4Maybe I'm just lucky, but I've never had any issues getting MobileMe to sync, backups take under 2 minutes, updates are decent, and I have few issues with signals. I've never had my iPhone freeze when receiving a call. I've had the iPhone since July 20th and have yet to reinstall anything.
There's no 3G network where I live, but I've been pretty pleased with Rogers' EDGE network, even here in Newfoundland, where they only have a handful of towers. - lofi4life, on 08/26/2008, -1/+4Really? Your computer is faster than ANY Mac?
- apotropaic, on 08/26/2008, -1/+4RG13 has got it spot on... Its the human hands in the apple commercial that make you think its operating at actual speeds. All other phone commercials simply show off the features. And when they are displayed on TV (vs web) most show fine print stating that for example the live stream is not real, just showing a feature.
- Billions, on 08/26/2008, -2/+5Would you consider suing the auto manufacturer that shows the car turning a corner in Hawaii, then climbs a hill during a rainstorm, then pulls up to a formal event, all because it happens in the space of 30 seconds? No, because you understand that it's been EDITED, and that is probably how you should start looking at these commercials too. Watch for when the cuts occur and understand the idea of the EDIT.
You know that new Audi ad? They don't really remodel the house and lose the Mercedes inside of 30 seconds. - Galaxylander, on 08/26/2008, -1/+4There is not a single other phone that has games with that quality of graphics.
- 2shae, on 08/26/2008, -0/+3And you've never seen any other commercial from a product that wasn't realistic?
TV ad time is money per second. They can't show you, them downloading a game for 60 seconds because it would cost to much and is very boring to watch. - mrBitch, on 08/27/2008, -0/+2RE: " Enjoy using a closed and restricted system for the rest of your life then."
Wow, so many posts from someone who has never used a Mac.
"Closed and restricted system" only applies to the hardware, as soon as you use OS X on a daily basis you will realise that the software running under OS X is NOT "closed and restricted" (far from it).
In fact, you will find that apps running under OS X use open and interoperable standards and protocols - as opposed to the proprietary closed and restricted Microsoft authored software under Windows. - RobotCitizen, on 08/27/2008, -0/+2"iThorazine sold seperately"
- RobotCitizen, on 08/27/2008, -0/+2THAT I would pay for.
- candyhearts143, on 08/26/2008, -5/+7of course it looks cool, they've got their iphone in their secret fortress where steve jobs has harnessed the energy of the matrix to power it a million times faster than it actually runs
- theremixtrack, on 08/27/2008, -0/+2I can just see Wayne Brady playing this an Keila calling.
*answer* "Keila, is Wayne Brady gunna have to choke a bitch" - RobotCitizen, on 08/27/2008, -0/+2Lawn fertilizer ads are not in realtime either, in case anyone was wondering. Grass actually grows over several days, not a few seconds.
- jjpertusch, on 08/26/2008, -0/+2the end is near. people talking ***** on an apple product. i thought things were strange when people were speaking highly of bill gates during his retirement... but this is just strange. surely a sign of the apocalypse.
- inactive, on 08/26/2008, -0/+2Have you seen the new Barbie ad? Mattel did an amazing job showing off the bouncing boobies. I wish I had a video link so this could hit the front page.
- btschul, on 08/26/2008, -0/+2I don't give a ***** what Steve Jobs says. I use mac because my time is valuable and I don't like wasting it sitting around waiting for my pc to start up (5 minutes) open internet explorer (30 seconds) load digg (10 seconds). And that's just web browsing. Don't even get me started on playing a video. "Apple's software hasn't "just worked" for many years now." - Can you give an example? No? Then just piss off.
- Zippo, on 08/26/2008, -0/+2It IS pronounced "app(s)". It's not an acronym, it's shortened slang for application.
Similar to Mac and Macintosh, net and Internet, etc. - phoomp, on 08/26/2008, -0/+2Well, I sure wouldn't be showing my commercials in real-time if I wanted to convince potential buyers that my product worked at magical, amazing speeds.
- bingo000, on 08/26/2008, -1/+3Apple under one umbrella has more innovation and ambition more than any PC manufacturing company. No product I can recall has sparked much attention and attraction like the ipod for example in the last decade.
I am happy that you and your PC are on the same level of thinking. - btschul, on 08/26/2008, -5/+6I don't need or want to open my computer up to mess around with it. My "closed and restricted system" "just works".
- phoomp, on 08/26/2008, -1/+2Exactly. We should always assume that we are being lied to in marketing, even by Apple.
By the way, what cuts should we be able to notice in this commercial?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaN1Nz1Dyls - nickert0n, on 08/26/2008, -1/+2HAHAHAHA
- aussieNickuss, on 08/26/2008, -4/+5Yeah.....they're gonna show the whole downloading and install process in the ad.
- charlie763, on 08/26/2008, -1/+2Wow, downloading software from a software repository with some sort of software management tool on a Unix-like platform? Welcome to Debian circa 1999.
- Galaxylander, on 08/26/2008, -2/+3It's on WiFi, look at the corner of the screen.
- migitalwarfare, on 08/26/2008, -1/+2if the commercial had anything to do with speed, you might have a point, but they were demonstrating a feature of the phone completely unrelated to speed, and in order to do that, they don't need to show the download process in real time.
- modusop, on 08/26/2008, -1/+2Hate to admit, but that's absolutely true - as much as I like about 2.0, these issues need to be resolved ASAP.
- rypic7, on 08/27/2008, -0/+1... i know its short for applications. i still just think apps is an annoying thing to say and hear.
- mrBitch, on 08/27/2008, -0/+1@ RobotCitizen RE: " Lawn fertilizer ads are not in realtime either, in case anyone was wondering. Grass actually grows over several days, not a few seconds. "
Great point, why single out an iPhone advert when ALL adverts use time compression? ( eg. Wow, my acne is completely gone after two weeks! ) - SSUK, on 08/26/2008, -1/+2Considering only 5% of the market use a Mac, I'd say PC users are still very smug.
- PurpleSfinx, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1Oh, one more thing I should mention, is that as a gaming device, think twice. There are some decent games out there, and some great ones on the way by the looks of things, but the battery basically lasts 2.5 hours if you're playing games and that's it. I haven't even been playing 3D ones. Other than that, I like it. Sure, if you charge it every day, it might be ok. I'm just saying think about it.
- chazuk, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1I love the "This is lame" option in situations like this......
- mentor972, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1A) This is not new, and it's just a commercial. Buried.
B) It's a commercial. Everything is supposed to be sped up.... cause it's a commercial, not an instructional video. -
