- ronzed, on 08/25/2008, -23/+4I've seen a bunch of these, even submitted one.
Apple are eventually gonna take over the world.- abajaj2280, on 08/26/2008, -12/+11) Apple is one thing. "Apple IS eventually gonna take over the world."
2) Apple is nowhere close to what Google can do. They will never get that close. - SSUK, on 08/26/2008, -1/+1I hate you.
- abajaj2280, on 08/26/2008, -12/+11) Apple is one thing. "Apple IS eventually gonna take over the world."
- lordhuggington, on 08/25/2008, -13/+23Wow, their downloadable content makes better use of the hardware than the Wii's does.
- SSUK, on 08/26/2008, -3/+9You're right, because the Wii doesn't use a similar control scheme for Excite Truck, Mario Kart Wii or GT Racer. Oh wait...
- markyman, on 08/25/2008, -5/+71"Now you can shout the hell out of Keila for interrupting your game."
- bigsteve, on 08/26/2008, -0/+9OMG are you playing games again? Why aren't you home? You never spend time with m--CLICK
- theremixtrack, on 08/27/2008, -0/+2I can just see Wayne Brady playing this an Keila calling.
*answer* "Keila, is Wayne Brady gunna have to choke a bitch"
- clak, on 08/25/2008, -15/+7I saw this commercial yesterday. It made me want to buy a 3G iPhone and I already have one!
- coreyhammond, on 08/25/2008, -10/+4haha that was a good commercial....wonder how many people want that game now too
- ilovdigg, on 08/25/2008, -18/+0Monkey Ball is the best game for the iphone
- ronzed, on 08/25/2008, -7/+4So, you like monkey balls?
- dragonzmajic, on 08/26/2008, -14/+7IF you can get the 3G to work.. the game does not download that fast (not even on WiFi [I am including install time of course]). However I love my iPhone just half the apps don't work for me while trying to show my co-workers (instead of working) because my phone won't hold a data signal!
- aussieNickuss, on 08/26/2008, -4/+5Yeah.....they're gonna show the whole downloading and install process in the ad.
- TyrannousDotNet, on 08/26/2008, -2/+2how many times will you be downloading it?
- wontstoptalking, on 08/26/2008, -11/+82Once again, it shows it going at magical, amazing speed.
- handheldchimp, on 08/26/2008, -3/+41The iPhones they use in the commercials are made from the horns of Unicorns and the bones of Pixies.
- nickert0n, on 08/26/2008, -1/+2HAHAHAHA
- RobotCitizen, on 08/27/2008, -0/+2THAT I would pay for.
- josuapedersen, on 08/26/2008, -6/+3So if you where Apple you would honestly show every commercial in real-time? Do you know how much more that would cost you?
- phoomp, on 08/26/2008, -0/+2Well, I sure wouldn't be showing my commercials in real-time if I wanted to convince potential buyers that my product worked at magical, amazing speeds.
- migitalwarfare, on 08/26/2008, -1/+2if the commercial had anything to do with speed, you might have a point, but they were demonstrating a feature of the phone completely unrelated to speed, and in order to do that, they don't need to show the download process in real time.
- RobotCitizen, on 08/27/2008, -0/+2Lawn fertilizer ads are not in realtime either, in case anyone was wondering. Grass actually grows over several days, not a few seconds.
- mrBitch, on 08/27/2008, -0/+1@ RobotCitizen RE: " Lawn fertilizer ads are not in realtime either, in case anyone was wondering. Grass actually grows over several days, not a few seconds. "
Great point, why single out an iPhone advert when ALL adverts use time compression? ( eg. Wow, my acne is completely gone after two weeks! )
- GeckoSlayer, on 08/26/2008, -5/+33It's called advertising you idiot. Look at any of the major phone advertisements. You can't pick on apple just because of an advertising campaign, when all the major phone manufacturers are doing it.
Example 1:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-PxHUdur9Q
N95 - Shows live streaming video going blazing fast, also shows camera application booting up INSTANTLY after sliding the mechanism. In real life, live streaming video is HORRIBLE. And the camera takes at least 5 seconds to get inot the application.
Example 2:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6sLZiwzNsFQ
HTC Touch - Shows instantaneous jumps between menu to application. The MSN website loads instantly! Wow! Maybe we should buy one of these simply because websites load instantly. It also shows the touch flow technology going pretty much instantly across, and that is DEFINITELY not what happens in real life.
Try it yourself, find advertisements from phone manufacturers and see how the advertisements are different. Why is everyone blaming apple for their advertising saying it goes twice as quick? In almost EVERY case, it DOES go twice as quick. They blame them for the browsing and things not going as quick as in the advertisements, they have 30 SECONDS to show their best and greatest features, why would they keep it all to loading bars when they could save money and show off features?- gllopc, on 08/26/2008, -1/+4You need to save your post and paste it into the other 20 articles posted in the next one to two weeks regarding the iPhone and its speed.
Great examples. - RG13, on 08/26/2008, -2/+5Though I agree with your point completely, there is a reason the Apple ads get flack where others don't (aside from the general Apple-hating). The first commercial you showed wasn't really in real time - it shows all the features in an accelerated sort of way. The iPhone commercial is doing the same sort of thing - a quick feature overview, not in real time - but since there is a human controlling everything, it's assumed to be in real time.
I can barely tell what's going on in the 2nd commercial, but I think the same sort of logic applies.
I think that's the problem with the iPhone ads - they're obviously not real-time, but try to give an impression that they are. - apotropaic, on 08/26/2008, -1/+4RG13 has got it spot on... Its the human hands in the apple commercial that make you think its operating at actual speeds. All other phone commercials simply show off the features. And when they are displayed on TV (vs web) most show fine print stating that for example the live stream is not real, just showing a feature.
- gllopc, on 08/26/2008, -1/+4You need to save your post and paste it into the other 20 articles posted in the next one to two weeks regarding the iPhone and its speed.
- 2shae, on 08/26/2008, -0/+3And you've never seen any other commercial from a product that wasn't realistic?
TV ad time is money per second. They can't show you, them downloading a game for 60 seconds because it would cost to much and is very boring to watch.
- handheldchimp, on 08/26/2008, -3/+41The iPhones they use in the commercials are made from the horns of Unicorns and the bones of Pixies.
- Sonan, on 08/26/2008, -18/+11Wow, wouldn't it be cool if a phone like that actually existed in real life? Seriously, they're lucky nobody is suing them for false advertising...
- idastheman, on 08/26/2008, -5/+6I heard they are. Some lady is suing cause 3g was not as fast as they say.
- phoomp, on 08/26/2008, -2/+2Except, they're very careful not to say how fast it is. I've only ever heard them say "twice as fast", with no indication of *what* it's twice as fast over.
- Billions, on 08/26/2008, -2/+5Would you consider suing the auto manufacturer that shows the car turning a corner in Hawaii, then climbs a hill during a rainstorm, then pulls up to a formal event, all because it happens in the space of 30 seconds? No, because you understand that it's been EDITED, and that is probably how you should start looking at these commercials too. Watch for when the cuts occur and understand the idea of the EDIT.
You know that new Audi ad? They don't really remodel the house and lose the Mercedes inside of 30 seconds.- phoomp, on 08/26/2008, -1/+2Exactly. We should always assume that we are being lied to in marketing, even by Apple.
By the way, what cuts should we be able to notice in this commercial?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaN1Nz1Dyls - Sonan, on 08/26/2008, -1/+1Exactly, phoomp. There are no obvious cuts in the Apple commercials. They make it appear as though the phone really does those things that fast in real time.
Thanks to those who dugg my comment up, but there's no competing with the masses who don't like hearing the truth I guess.
- phoomp, on 08/26/2008, -1/+2Exactly. We should always assume that we are being lied to in marketing, even by Apple.
- idastheman, on 08/26/2008, -5/+6I heard they are. Some lady is suing cause 3g was not as fast as they say.
- ryanschmidt, on 08/26/2008, -6/+21As an iPhone 1st Gen & 2nd Gen owner, let me say that I WISH my phone operated that quickly. I am not even talking about the 3G or WIFI speeds... just the actually phone itself. Mine has never opened the AppStore that quickly or opened a game that quickly. The phone in this video is simply what I thought the iPhone would be. I love my phone but this ad makes me love it just a little less.
- mrzeero, on 08/26/2008, -3/+9Agreed. That commercial is more a representation of this is how your iPhone will appear to work when you are on Thorazine.
- RobotCitizen, on 08/27/2008, -0/+2"iThorazine sold seperately"
- mrzeero, on 08/26/2008, -3/+9Agreed. That commercial is more a representation of this is how your iPhone will appear to work when you are on Thorazine.
- btschul, on 08/26/2008, -7/+68Don't get me wrong, I love apple, I own a MacBook and will never buy a PC again, and I have never owned a non-iPod mp3 player, but this doesn't seem like Digg frontpage material. I mean, it's a commercial.
- Regbooker, on 08/26/2008, -10/+6Enjoy using a closed and restricted system for the rest of your life then.
- btschul, on 08/26/2008, -5/+6I don't need or want to open my computer up to mess around with it. My "closed and restricted system" "just works".
- phoomp, on 08/26/2008, -2/+3btschul, Apple's software hasn't "just worked" for many years now.
- nickert0n, on 08/26/2008, -2/+2btschul - Eat your pea's and Carrot's, Steve Jobs says so.
- btschul, on 08/26/2008, -0/+2I don't give a ***** what Steve Jobs says. I use mac because my time is valuable and I don't like wasting it sitting around waiting for my pc to start up (5 minutes) open internet explorer (30 seconds) load digg (10 seconds). And that's just web browsing. Don't even get me started on playing a video. "Apple's software hasn't "just worked" for many years now." - Can you give an example? No? Then just piss off.
- mrBitch, on 08/27/2008, -0/+2RE: " Enjoy using a closed and restricted system for the rest of your life then."
Wow, so many posts from someone who has never used a Mac.
"Closed and restricted system" only applies to the hardware, as soon as you use OS X on a daily basis you will realise that the software running under OS X is NOT "closed and restricted" (far from it).
In fact, you will find that apps running under OS X use open and interoperable standards and protocols - as opposed to the proprietary closed and restricted Microsoft authored software under Windows.
- Regbooker, on 08/26/2008, -10/+6Enjoy using a closed and restricted system for the rest of your life then.
- shithitinthefan, on 08/26/2008, -13/+12They skipped over the dropped frame rates and 1990 graphics.
- cerealjynx, on 08/26/2008, -6/+1I love my new 3G. Right now I'd have to say the best thing that isn't free is the port of the SegaCD game, Vay. The touch controls lend themselves really well to the oldskool RPG format.
- johndajap56, on 08/26/2008, -7/+2I does change everything.....Now i'm always playing cube runner during physics
- akohut, on 08/26/2008, -11/+3Digg users should suck more iPhone dick. Wait, that's not possible.
(I do, however, have a 3G.) - willynilly, on 08/26/2008, -14/+47WTF?
IT'S JUST REGULAR COMMERCIAL. No parody. No point.
NICE SPAM, jerk.- RapeApe, on 08/26/2008, -3/+9I actually watched the whole thing expecting to see a joke at the end. If I wanted to see a iPhone ad, I'd turn on the television. Buried.
- candyhearts143, on 08/26/2008, -5/+7of course it looks cool, they've got their iphone in their secret fortress where steve jobs has harnessed the energy of the matrix to power it a million times faster than it actually runs
- Galaxylander, on 08/26/2008, -2/+3It's on WiFi, look at the corner of the screen.
- apotropaic, on 08/26/2008, -2/+1LOL you are funny little man, oh blind defender.
- Galaxylander, on 08/26/2008, -2/+3It's on WiFi, look at the corner of the screen.
- chkdg8, on 08/26/2008, -9/+3"And this is how you false advertise."
I love the iPhone but I and everybody else that owns one can't stand how Apple is just ***** around with people's intelligence, knowing that the iphone 3G was riddled with bugs and continues to do so. Just fix the ***** SIMPLE problems that us users are constantly ranting about. Primarily 3G. Step up man. We don't need anymore commercials so this is money just thrown out the window that could have been used to fix *****. It was all of the online forums and social sites that brought the 360's RROD into the mainstream to the point that M$ couldn't ignore the problem anymore. Let's hope the iphone 3G's problems don't reach to that point. Go ahead and bury but you know it's true. - TyrannousDotNet, on 08/26/2008, -6/+1a week late.
- meghalc, on 08/26/2008, -6/+21Buried for regular commercial! Digg is not a advertisement platform for Apple.
And its not even funny like the other apple commercials. - dangsta, on 08/26/2008, -3/+3lame. there are enough apple stories on digg. we don't need to see an actual apple advert that we'll probably see another 10 times throughout the day on here.
- Wickedboss, on 08/26/2008, -4/+25And This , it's MobileMe Trying to sync..
And This , it's a backup that never end....
And This , it's a update that never end...
And This , it's all the phone call you miss cause your iPhone frooze...
And This , it's your red face , cause you have to re-install everything for the third time...
By the way i wrote This on my MacBook Air , im a Apple lover , but i realy hate they new 2.0 operating system...- Zippo, on 08/26/2008, -1/+4Maybe I'm just lucky, but I've never had any issues getting MobileMe to sync, backups take under 2 minutes, updates are decent, and I have few issues with signals. I've never had my iPhone freeze when receiving a call. I've had the iPhone since July 20th and have yet to reinstall anything.
There's no 3G network where I live, but I've been pretty pleased with Rogers' EDGE network, even here in Newfoundland, where they only have a handful of towers. - modusop, on 08/26/2008, -1/+2Hate to admit, but that's absolutely true - as much as I like about 2.0, these issues need to be resolved ASAP.

- rypic7, on 08/26/2008, -8/+2it annoys me when people pronounce APPs "apps" like that. i know everyone does it, but it just gets at me...
- Zippo, on 08/26/2008, -0/+2It IS pronounced "app(s)". It's not an acronym, it's shortened slang for application.
Similar to Mac and Macintosh, net and Internet, etc.- rypic7, on 08/27/2008, -0/+1... i know its short for applications. i still just think apps is an annoying thing to say and hear.
- Zippo, on 08/26/2008, -0/+2It IS pronounced "app(s)". It's not an acronym, it's shortened slang for application.
- Craddster, on 08/26/2008, -4/+3Yawn! More of the same.
Buried. - Lancelot9201, on 08/26/2008, -7/+2What they aren't telling you though is that it took over a dozen takes before their 3G connection didn't get drop.!!!
- Galaxylander, on 08/26/2008, -0/+5It was on WiFi in the ad, look in the corner of the screen.
- sodoh, on 08/26/2008, -6/+1Just a advert. What is annoying is that most of this crap is already on existing phones in the rest of the world. Are other phones in the USA that bad that they don't already have these features?
- Galaxylander, on 08/26/2008, -1/+4There is not a single other phone that has games with that quality of graphics.
- sodoh, on 08/26/2008, -0/+0Nokia N95 came with a 3D Graphics card long before iPhone existed.
There are loads of phones out on the market with same/better setup as the iPhone. It is just if you live in America you will probably never see them.
- sodoh, on 08/26/2008, -0/+0Nokia N95 came with a 3D Graphics card long before iPhone existed.

- FiP0, on 08/26/2008, -3/+2OMG NOTHING WILL EVER BE THE SAME. :)
- ezoby, on 08/26/2008, -5/+0This is the app store, this is how you brows 1000s of new apps, and this is how you download the “I am rich” app, and this

is you... when you realize it - handheldchimp, on 08/26/2008, -6/+1HEY GUYZ, I JUST KILLED A KITTEN!
- Zippo, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1Thanks for letting us know that you've masturbated. You must be so proud.
- hdtvtutor, on 08/26/2008, -3/+1wish my phone was this quick - hell its even starting to lag when i press numbers :S
- ilovdigg, on 08/26/2008, -4/+2Here's the iPhone 3G Vicinity ad:
http://digg.com/apple/iPhone_3G_TV_Ad_Vicinity - groovechamp30, on 08/26/2008, -6/+3It's so smug...
- BlueStarr, on 08/26/2008, -2/+2lol....its so smug.
Well, weren't PC users smug levels the same if not more compared to Mac users now when Win 95 debut?...and then again Win 98.. compared to OS 9? So now that Apple has handed you your hat with your ass inside it, you've lost your appreciation for smugness?
Come on, take it like a man.- SSUK, on 08/26/2008, -1/+2Considering only 5% of the market use a Mac, I'd say PC users are still very smug.
- BlueStarr, on 08/26/2008, -1/+1It's up to 8%(?) But if you take all the Macs Apple has sold and will sell by the end of this year it will be around 10 million. Include last years sales and the pervious. It should be somewhere around 20 million total users base. And that doesn't include PPC and the fact that Apple hardware last double the lifespan of your typical PEECEE.
- BlueStarr, on 08/26/2008, -1/+1Up 10% at the beginning of the first quarter of this year. Opps, my bad.
http://macdailynews.com/index.php/weblog/comments/ ...
- BlueStarr, on 08/26/2008, -2/+2lol....its so smug.
- ozziek, on 08/26/2008, -3/+1Can someone do a real-time version of this where the install doesn't take half a second but about a minute and the app fails to launch the first 3 times. Oh also throw in the odd reboot
- GamerX, on 08/26/2008, -3/+2iPhone firmware is made by cromags
- albel65, on 08/26/2008, -4/+2See? This is what they meant when anything Apple-related gets submitted and then becomes front paged.
EDIT: Didn't like my wording... - tnoy, on 08/26/2008, -3/+1I've always found it funny when a group of people that are mostly dominated with the type that use Adblock Plus, use a DVR to skip commercials, and are very quick to bury blogspam, will quickly digg and bring to the front page a commercial if its from Apple.
- colonels1020, on 08/26/2008, -2/+1Wow... an iPhone ad? How did this make the front page, seriously? I mean, I'm all for the iPhone and I have one myself, but how does a plain old iPhone ad make the FP?
- Vich, on 08/26/2008, -2/+2Cro-Mag or Kromagg?
I don't want to be fending off interdimensional aliens from an alternate reality who want my eyeballs; I made that mistake last time I trusted an apple product... - MobileDaily, on 08/26/2008, -2/+0here the first Iphone 3G diamond :http://digg.com/tech_news/World_s_First_Diamond_iP ...
- charlie763, on 08/26/2008, -1/+2Wow, downloading software from a software repository with some sort of software management tool on a Unix-like platform? Welcome to Debian circa 1999.
- PurpleSfinx, on 08/26/2008, -2/+1I got my iPhone 3G about 2 weeks ago and just want to let the 1 or 2 Diggers without iPhones know that although overall I am VERY happy with it and it keeps impressing me, the apps jsut aren't that great. Fair enough, I'm speaking of free apps, and you get waht you pay for, but I find it irritating they just exit every so often. Even the facebook and myspace apps just don't work properly. Also, the interface gets laggy at times.
Oh look, an iPhone 3g ad is on TV right now. Talking about how fast it is. IT'S NOT.- PurpleSfinx, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1Oh, one more thing I should mention, is that as a gaming device, think twice. There are some decent games out there, and some great ones on the way by the looks of things, but the battery basically lasts 2.5 hours if you're playing games and that's it. I haven't even been playing 3D ones. Other than that, I like it. Sure, if you charge it every day, it might be ok. I'm just saying think about it.
- Mungo616, on 08/26/2008, -1/+2The only reason I checked this out is because I thought the title said 'Cro-Mags'.
- svensksvamp, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1Hopefully this is what we'll get in the 2.1 update =) Let's stay positive. It can only get better.
- stevex0r, on 08/26/2008, -0/+0But the Cro-Mags are way cheaper and more rockin on amazon.

- jjpertusch, on 08/26/2008, -0/+2the end is near. people talking ***** on an apple product. i thought things were strange when people were speaking highly of bill gates during his retirement... but this is just strange. surely a sign of the apocalypse.
- pileofstraw, on 08/26/2008, -0/+2Have you seen the new Barbie ad? Mattel did an amazing job showing off the bouncing boobies. I wish I had a video link so this could hit the front page.
- mentor972, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1A) This is not new, and it's just a commercial. Buried.
B) It's a commercial. Everything is supposed to be sped up.... cause it's a commercial, not an instructional video. - nem0, on 08/26/2008, -0/+0I want to remote-drive a real car with an iPhone. Now THAT would be Diggworthy.
- Elliuotatar, on 08/26/2008, -1/+1And this.... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... scroll... is how you browse over a thousand new apps!
