- macmcraeart, on 07/03/2009, -3/+63LOL. Next they have to rob a bank to afford to make that monthly payment to AT&T.
- wishihadatwitch, on 07/03/2009, -4/+53i live in NY and have an iphone 32gb... this is the app i use to protect it...
http://images.gerbertools.com/Lg/1869_1/22-01535_G ... - Dochtuir, on 07/03/2009, -1/+32There's something fundamentally wrong with us as a society if we consider using a phone in public as an open invitation for someone to take it away. Shouldn't we just be allowed to use our phones and media players without constant fear of assault? I mean, why can't people just not be such massive dicks? Seriously... it's not that hard.
- Bullislander05, on 07/03/2009, -4/+25Want to protect yourself from thieves with ninjas? There's an app for that.

You Call That a Knife?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01NHcTM5IA4 - Hoboking333, on 07/03/2009, -4/+19Seems kind of inconvenient to steal people's sneakers. You'd have to be extra sneaky to make away with those without someone noticing.
- mickhead, on 07/03/2009, -3/+17Guns make the world a better place!
- Suits, on 07/03/2009, -1/+13But who protects the knife?
- DarkoKun, on 07/03/2009, -1/+12What is this some kind of a riddle?
- Spamcan, on 07/03/2009, -1/+11The next iPhone should have electrodes in it that you can remotely activate over MobileMe, just push a button to zap the thief and get your phone back.
- ted510, on 07/03/2009, -1/+10The fact that the iPhone does not have a removable battery and that the siren for Find My iPhone works even though the phone is on vibrate/silent.
- VanillaIcee, on 07/03/2009, -3/+12Puss. I carry one of these.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/61 ... - MisterFurious, on 07/03/2009, -1/+9My favorite part of the article is where the idiot iPhone thief gets caught by sending pictures of himself using the victim's e-mail account.
<insert foghorn sound here> - yttrstein, on 07/03/2009, -0/+8I'm a native new yorker, and I don't get robbed because I'm not a ***** idiot.
- ipushmycar, on 07/03/2009, -0/+8This is my app.

Worth the watch... - Barackalypse, on 07/03/2009, -3/+10Even better will be the first report of a vigilante iPhone user killing the person who has their phone and then having it turn out that person unwittingly bought it from the thief off Craigslist for $100.
- Zippo, on 07/03/2009, -1/+8I'm just Canadian... no knife, no gun... just a pocket.
- hawkspur, on 07/03/2009, -6/+11Sounds like a good way to get shot over a cell phone.
- crimsonredmk, on 07/03/2009, -0/+5I think he meant he saved his passwords on the iPod or was already logged in and he changed his passwords so no one could steal his online stuff.
- JHB207, on 07/03/2009, -0/+5How about a remote shutdown feature rendering it useless that can be activated when the user reports their phone missing.
- Barackalypse, on 07/03/2009, -9/+14A more effective way to fight back is to move to a State that lets your carry a handgun, and then use it to shoot anyone that tries to rob you.
- rimantas, on 07/03/2009, -0/+5the same button activates mini parachute as it zaps the bastard.
On the second thought - why not to implement "fly back to master" function. There should be an app for that. - fluidfoundation, on 07/03/2009, -5/+10Still waiting for the first report of someone getting their ass killed trying to get back their iphone using the new feature.
- whatit, on 07/03/2009, -3/+8What? I'm not sure what dream cloud you live on but some of us with jobs can't afford the same things that you can.
- NeoTechni, on 07/04/2009, -0/+5That's not a shutdown though. They still get a free phone.
How about something that makes it pointless to steal it in the first place? Like remote SHUTDOWN - EastCoastGnar, on 07/03/2009, -1/+6It was annoying when someone nicked my iPod Touch and I had to go through and change all my passwords. That's the risk you run, though.
- inactive, on 07/04/2009, -1/+5Someone mugs you, it's self defense. Kill the ***** dead. Extra points if you mortally wound them and leave them to slowly bleed to death.
- cerealjynx, on 07/03/2009, -0/+4Bring it on bitch! I got the lightsaber app.
- JimmyTheClam, on 07/03/2009, -5/+9Equinox1 and Mothrog are perfect illustrations of why New York is such a ***** and New Yorkers are almost universally loathed.
OMGWTF! Someone had the nerve to use something they bought!
- inactive, on 07/04/2009, -0/+4I dunno why you're getting dugg down. People get shot and stabbed over a couple of quarters in NYC.
- Equinox1, on 07/03/2009, -6/+10Well as a New Yorker, I watch tons of people flaunt these devices, practically asking people to take them. So when it happens, I'm not sure why it comes as a shock.
- CRCulver, on 07/03/2009, -3/+7Shooting someone just for running by and grabbing your stuff will get you tried for murder in most jurisdictions.
- milkmage, on 07/03/2009, -1/+4why don't you just use a post-it stuck to your monitor like me?
- kwestin, on 07/03/2009, -0/+3The technology has been around for a while:
http://www.gadgettrak.com/products/mobile
http://www.gadgettrak.com/blog/category/recoveries ...
The issue with find my iPhone is that it can be turned off by the thief. The locaiton also gets you down to about a block of accuracy. Unlike the other solutions which actually get network data including the thief's mobile number, subscriber ID and other information that assist law enforcement in recovering the device.
It will only be a matter of time before someone is killed trying to recover their own phone without the police. - BossKey, on 07/03/2009, -3/+6Except that in such a state, you pretty much guarantee that all the thieves have guns too. If the victim is expected to have a gun, then thieves will simply make sure there's at least two of them with guns. Net result, guns solve nothing while making everybody go out and spend money on yet another thing they gotta carry every time they leave the house.
If everybody had guns, it would just be like cars are today: You can bet that a frighteningly high percentage of owners forget or pay no attention to the proper training for operation of the device, and ruin it for everybody. - 7aji, on 07/04/2009, -0/+3............................................________

- inactive, on 07/04/2009, -1/+4Unless your a cop, you can't carry one of those in NYC legally.
- lex0nyc, on 07/03/2009, -1/+4Or remotely install Windows ME, rendering it more useless than Amy Winehouse on a Sunday morning.
- ArchangelZLT, on 07/03/2009, -1/+4I guess if things are so bad you have to shoot the guy, you can be acquitted for self-defense anyway.
- falser, on 07/03/2009, -2/+5This is why you carry concealed, just shoot the ***** in the face.
I honestly cannot believe that in today's world people are willing to risk their lives to steal an iphone. - ehaugan, on 07/04/2009, -0/+2"targeting costly and coveted devices like Apple's iPhone and T-Mobile's Sidekick"
Honestly, who would steal a T-Mobile Sidekick? LMAO! - lex0nyc, on 07/03/2009, -2/+4You don't have one, do you?
- pstroll, on 07/03/2009, -0/+2If only it had a self-destruct function, then I'd want it to get stolen.
- Khast, on 07/03/2009, -0/+2No, it's because I live in a border town, which is surrounded by water, except on one side, where it connects to Canada.
I live in the ultimate gated community. With guards, courtesy of the Customs and Border Patrol. - kwestin, on 07/03/2009, -0/+2Funny you mention ninjas:
