- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -9/+177"Up to 2.4GHz Core 2 Extreme processor, up to 4GB of memory. ATI Radeon HD graphics card, up to 1TB of hard drive storage. 802.11n and Bluetooth 2.0 built-in. What models will we have? Up until now, 17-inch, 20-inch, and 24-inch. Well, today we're replacing the 24-inch, lowering price by $200, 20-inch at same $1499. replacing 17-inch with $1199 model."
"Also, new keyboard. You might have seen this on the web." ~ jobs - Jedeye459, on 10/10/2007, -13/+170Not quite the WOW I was looking for, but its a solid good looking product.
- blogosphear, on 10/10/2007, -10/+136Man Steve needs some new clothes
- bethlagarrison, on 10/10/2007, -15/+105That's gorgeous. I'm really glad the keyboard is real, too.
- Konstantino, on 10/10/2007, -4/+93Haha, who would have though that was really the new keyboard. Apple legal did a good job by NOT forcefully taking it down -- it caused a bunch of us to believe it was fake. Smart.
- bristevens, on 10/10/2007, -19/+97Fake. That has so been shopped.
totally joking - davin510, on 10/10/2007, -14/+73Yeah, how am I gonna play video games... o wait...
- fLUx1337, on 10/10/2007, -5/+53Is Apple slowly ditching the glossy white stuff??
I kinda liked the glossy white lol - BLyn, on 10/10/2007, -19/+66Uh... 1gb of ram?
- AgentHatchet, on 10/10/2007, -10/+52upgradable to 4. READ
- DigitalJester, on 10/10/2007, -9/+47wtf?! 1GB of RAM for 1,700 dollars. I want 2GB for that, at least.
- kevinmotel, on 10/10/2007, -10/+44did you expect it to turn into a flying car?
- Barr08, on 10/10/2007, -11/+45They got rid of the 17 inch model, which is smart. Oh and the macbook-like keyboard looks sweet. I wonder if they are going to sell them individually.
- Hickeroar, on 10/10/2007, -6/+36Colors LOOK better on glossy screens, but colors are WRONG on glossy screens. I work with a graphic designer and he's already decided not to buy one (he was going to) because of the glossy screen. Also, check out a few sites that were offering live updates (engadget for instance) and see all the gripes by the designers about the glossy screens.
- KidVicious, on 10/10/2007, -8/+38If you are a professional graphic designer, why are you using an iMac?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+33it IS widescreen, theres a slight border around it, its hard to tell with the monitor off
- bethlagarrison, on 10/10/2007, -2/+28You can run Vista with Parallels - and I think Bootcamp supports it too (or will in the near future).
So yeah, if you like the design but don't like OSX, you can just use it as a windows machine. - gcnaddict, on 10/10/2007, -5/+29What's with their obsession with ATI cards? Hasn't AMD proven to the world that their latest line of graphics cards are utter crap?
- Hickeroar, on 10/10/2007, -18/+40Except for the utterly brainless decision to only produce it with a glossy screen. This is going to tick of loads of graphic designers. Heck, in the last 30 minutes it already HAS ticked a lot of them off.
- jeriqo, on 10/10/2007, -6/+27Yeah, and the mouse only one button!
No floppy disk! *****! - fugazi, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21Of the mockup. They are already currently in the back of the iMacs.
- inertic, on 10/10/2007, -0/+19It's probably an option, not standard.
And yes, it is an intel mac, you can load vista on it. - kostya11, on 10/10/2007, -8/+27now that they show that it is infact widescreen, i think it looks pretty nice, it looks a lot like the cinima displays , classy....
- ROFLance, on 10/10/2007, -3/+21He can't afford new clothes on his $1 a year salary.
- ElwinRansom, on 10/10/2007, -8/+26An excellent evolution of an already beautiful product. 1 TB of storage sounds awesome :)
- jeriqo, on 10/10/2007, -17/+33Why?
Colors are better on glossy screens.
I think graphic designers can just... not put a 200watt light behind them.
Anyway, graphic designer use Mac Pros with CRT sreens. - epiccollision, on 10/10/2007, -8/+24umm bootcamp
- sv650touring, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17and ***** the continuous Apple bashing in the comment sections of ANY Apple (and most non-Apple) related article. I've said it before: Bashing is more pathetic than fanboyism, which is plenty pathetic.
- Balanced, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15Don't buy the Apple memory upgrade, then.
- jtb4, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15god I hate that Web 2.0 nonsense
- kevinmotel, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16fill it up with movies from itunes! thats what they want you to do
- thatsmyaibo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16The Mighty Mouse is a 2 button mouse genius. It just sensitive to the left and right side. Way to keep up with the times.
- dmpapwor, on 10/10/2007, -3/+17Doesn't matter if it's a resource hog or not, for $1700 Apple should include more than 1 GB of RAM.
- benb, on 10/10/2007, -4/+18On another note (ran out of editing time), I would really like to see Apple release a small tower system without the integrated monitor for less than a Mac Pro. I already have a nice display, and want a computer I can add a drive to if I want. Until then I'll be happy with my XP desktop.
- geminitojanus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14It's hidden in the monitor's zorro mask I'd assume.
- ghaerdon, on 10/10/2007, -6/+20Common! I want it but no 2 Gig ... sucks... well I guess I know where my $200 is going on freekin memory. But it's sexy, not revolutionary, just sexy.
- sv650touring, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15Oh well, I guess that means that Apple's professional series will appeal more to the professionals and the consumer series will appeal more to the consumers. But it does suck that the pros won't have the option.
- PopeOfDope, on 10/10/2007, -6/+19'PC fanboys' can whine about the lack of nVidia. ATIs DX10 offerings perform poorly compared to nVidias if you look at the price/performance ratios.
- Commodus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13The current models are widescreen. There's not much difference in that regard!
- martalli, on 10/10/2007, -3/+16If they are only going to update the imacs every year or so, couldn't they at least put in some more advanced hardware, like a q6600? 2.4 quad core processor...it would be snappy for imovie, etc, and it is simple desktop kit these days. HP is selling a media tower with a q6600 for less than $1100. I would think Apple could at least shoehorn it into their top model...
- geminitojanus, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14Well, even as an engineer I've gotta say I very rarely use the number pad, I've gotten so used to the fact my laptop doesn't have one, and the number keys above the letters are easier to reach if you follow good typing practices. It's sad in a way that it doesn't have one, but at the same time I can understand the need (lower costs, better for environment/recycling, low need to begin with to have two different ways to enter the same info, etc).
Now if they'd just move the damned Caps Lock key to where I'm not hitting it accidentally all of the damned time... - takamalak, on 10/10/2007, -12/+24NO one uses CRT screens for professional work unless they are poor. There are plenty of professional grade LCD screens.
- brendanryder, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12this one does
look closely
http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.engadget.com/media/2007/08/dsc_1319.jpg - colincornaby, on 10/10/2007, -19/+30Well, looking at the specs, I don't think even the PC fanboys can whine about that. Radeon HD 2600 and a Core 2 Duo Extreme.
- geminitojanus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12Btw, you're in the Apple section. You *can* block it, you know.
- badjoke, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12Exactly. These are meant to be middle-end products, not computers for big design firms.
- benb, on 10/10/2007, -7/+17Am I the only one that thinks it's a little weird to have a glossy desktop display? On a laptop it can be a good option (depending on use) because of the lower brightness and contrast ratios, but for a desktop display is seems a little off.
- samssf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10You can install Vista and dual boot with boot camp since that's not virtualization.
- jeriqo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12I don't see how the old imac could get a "huge" improvement anyway..
The only thing they can do is remove the bottom part. - zwilliams, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9They have always offered keyboards separate since the Mac started. Expect the usual price point of $49-69.
