- candre23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9What is the benefit of a radio in an ipod? The whole reason most people buy an ipod is so that they don't have to listen to the garbage on the radio.
- icupg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"I can get an Iriver MP3 player with FM radio and LCD screen at cheaper price. If Ipod has FM radio then i will change my mind"
Why would you want a radio in it? I bought an Ipod so I wouldn't have to listen to the godawful FM airwaves. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7yup looks like a douchebag
http://www.corante.com/mooreslore/archives/images/zander_ed_motorola.jpg - Swift2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Certain people on the Creative payroll on this board: the market has pretty firmly decided it doesn't care about FM radio on their iPods. They got the iPods so that, with their own music and their podcast subscription, they can forget all those a__hole announcers and the relentless commercials for mortgages, phony cures, and being generally targeted as a demographic by a__hole record companies. If FM radio ever returns to something decent, like the old album rock stations of the '70s-- but it won't. They'd be better off turning those frequencies into WiFi or something like that.
- rayde, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5he goes, "What the hell does the nano do? Who listens to 1,000 songs?" when i believe the question he should be asking is "Who listens to only 100 songs" on their lame, crippled, Motorola ROKR?
- hazri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Kinda agree with him. I dislike all the Ipod thing simply because
I can get an Iriver MP3 player with FM radio and LCD screen at cheaper price. If Ipod has FM radio then i will change my mind - Draven, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I say "screw the Rokr".. a lame ass, overpriced phone that stores a wopping 100 songs. wahoo !@
anyone want a $250 512k thumbdrive?
anyone... ?? cricket.. cricket.. - zwilliams, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2FM is useless nowdays. I don't see why people want it; maybe for the shockjocks or the commercials every 3 minutes that last for 8 minutes? FM radio is crap.
As to the Video iPod idea, a lot of people still don't get it. Ummm, why would Apple push into a foray that doesn't have an abundant content to push on it? The iRiver and whatever those other MP3 Players are might do it, but who really puts out content for that stuff? Not everyone is going to buy a video player, run home and spend hours and hours encoding videos at a hit and miss kinda style to watch video.
Its just not a feasible time to start pushing video on players. There aren't any dedicated services to supply people with stuff to watch. Besides who really enjoys watching movies on a 2" color screen? But until then, don't expect a vPod until Apple comes up with a dedicated Video Store. - Sixcolors, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Aparently a lot of people listen to 1,000 songs. They wouldn't still be making iPods if they didn't.
- boinko, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Let me guess: Zander is one of those old guys who wears bad suits, reads bestselling management books, and prides himself on his inability to read e-mail.
Or maybe he's some young punk who thinks he's hot-***** because he says what's on his mind. He's a "dynamic leader" and doesn't let anyone finish their sentences because he's too busy and doesn't like people who think too much. He's got a badass set of golf clubs, drives a Lexus convertible, and heads down to Pinehurst and Forest Creek on one of his buddy's private jets.
yeah, Zander's a winner. He's a tunraround guy. - mattconn24, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yea Motorola might want to watch it. Think about it. It isn't necessarily that people need more then one hundred songs with them, but it is nice to have the songs you want when you want them so if you have all of your songs then that isn't a problem... Motorola is going to screw themselves if they are not careful!!!
- hagingtree, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Am I the only person in the world that wants my electronics to do one thing but do them well?
I dont want a damn hybrid phone that takes ***** pictures, holds a bare handful of songs, with ***** sound quality, and has tons of other crap on it.
Let me put it this way, I want my Ipod to play music. I want my camera to take pictures, and I want my laptop to connect to the internet and I want my phone to communicate with people.
I want my things to do what they are supposed and I want them to do them well, when you start jamming ***** together like this guy is preaching you lose quality all around.
and even IF they could put together an Ipod/Phone/Laptop/Camera that worked at top quality all the time for everything, I wouldnt buy it. I like my things seperate. - RootDaddy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Apparntly the remark was a joke and this article takes the comment completely out of context:
http://www.betanews.com/article/Motorola_Screw_Nano_Comment_a_Joke/1127763247 - weareglass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1oops, thaqt should be http://www.macworld.com/news/2005/09/26/motceo/index.php
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The iPod Nano is hot to death and the ROKR is a pile of *****! I'd be mad too. Steve's a Pimp isn't he. Not everyone can make a CEO swear... it's icing on the cake.
- number8888, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Who listens to 1,000 songs? Me and everyone that bought an iPod, and there's a lot of us!
- weareglass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's not the same as that story in the above digg post, it's a lot more concise and to the point, BUT the original MacCentral article should be linked ()
- yaphi, on 02/20/2008, -0/+1I can't wait to see what Apple does to fire back at him...I love when steve gets mad
- weareglass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Devilman makes a good point. I'm sure Ford makes more in profit and releases more cars than, say, Lamborghini. Maybe Apple isn't the Lamborghini of their world but they're more Lamorghini than they are the Ford.
- martinj, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Ed Zander took the reigns from the Chris Galvin (founder's grandson) about one year ago and has shown a profit for the first time in 5 years. Prior to coming to Motorola, Ed was president and COO of Sun Microsystems. Sun is not a button up company; it is the opposite. Ed has brought that culture to Motorola.
Motorola is not really worried with what apple is doing. The ROKR is just another blip on the product radar that Motorola puts out.
Compare the results from the last two quarters.

Ed is just responding to the hype that devout apple to busy to worry a sorry music player. - weareglass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1As much as people tout convergence, I think it's one of the great myths of the oughties. Sure, my phone now has an integrated web browser and camera, but did I throw out my camera and stop using my browser on my computer? No.
Will people give up dedicated listening devices for phones? Doubtful. Will people appreciate having additional if incomplete functionality? I got rid of my wristwatch, but telling time is a much easier prospect than playing back music how I want, when I want. One happening does not mean that the next is assuredly on the horizon. - kaje, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1$250? That's the ROKR "cheap." You have to purchase a 2-year plan to get it that cheap. The phone in itself is upward around $400 without a plan. LOL?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Taraba... stating opinion for fact is a foolish thing. The ROKR's memory thingy can only hold so much and it takes over an hour to load up 100 files. If they had more space I doubt people would use it. Get your opinions and facts straight.
- vertigo32, on 02/11/2009, -0/+1I have an ipod nano, but that is only because my 30gb regular ipod freezes up if I try to run with it on.
That, and the Nike+ is a pretty good gimmick. I still use my regular ipod at work / when I'm not working out and appreciate having a pretty decent library of songs, but the nano is definitely superior for working out with.
As for the other features, I could care less. I'm not going to listen to the radio when I have the top 100 albums in my library right there, and I really don't care about listening to .flac, .oog, or any other format and I don't want to spend any time having to configure it. - Fowz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Jealous and bitter me thinks!!!....I didn't even charge a fee for that. This on tail end of Job's slating some mobile phone operators for wanting to charge £1.50 to download a song.
- martinj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+01 billion is 1000 millions...when you have that much money, it does not make a difference whether it 3, 6 or 32 Billion. Do you think Steve Jobs or Bill Gates (32-366 Billion) have to stop and think before they buy something for themselves. They each can have what ever they want multiple times over.
To say that "Jobs isn't worth over $6 billion, he's only worth $3.3 billion. Quite a big difference" is silly. The way the markets change he could have 1 billion tomorrow and 7 billion next week. - hayden.evans, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"He's just mad cause Jobs used him. Jobs just wanted to see if people would actually buy an iTunes cellphone. Nope, not many people did. And did it effect apple? No, not really."
@ aneely
Not necessarily true. I would love a phone with itunes that a) didn't look like a piece of crap and b) had a memory card slot for expandable song capacity. If they do put it on the next gen razr (rumor has it) with a memory card slot ( i highly doubt) i think it could be one of the most successful phones ever. - 23seconds, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0zander... what a douch
he's just mad his company makes ugly gadgets and not beautiful works of art like apple. - j_bellone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Jobs isn't worth over $6 billion, he's only worth $3.3 billion. Quite a big difference.

sorry - krahzee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Ppl here complain who wants a FM radio. I have more mp3s then ever imagineable on my computer but I still love the radio. Sure I need to hear the annoying ads and promos but it gives me the chance to hear many songs I have never heard before and then I can go get a song I like in mp3 format."
That's the point I was trying to make.
Deciding that all players but ipods are ***** is little bit much, because in all honesty features that other portable players might offer, may not be important to someone who bought an Ipod (which is of course a good product), but might be a deciding factor to someone else.
Hell, Apple even admits this in a way, simply because they sell a variety of players to cater to all different levels of finances, storage & size needs. That's not a fault, that's good business. The guy who wants a hour of music to jog to likes the small nano's size, while others want to take every song they own with them and don't care about size.
To me, I want a player that:
1 I can fit as many Mp3's as possible on - Don't want to have to remove stuff all the time to add files. Size doesn't mean ***** to me.
2 Is durable - (Most can take a drop from time to time),
3 And has an external battery - I'd rather order the battery and swap it myself, then go through the trouble of sending it in and then having to not only wait to get it back, but reload every song to it. Not a knock at Apple, just a preference.
A radio tuner would also be a nice added feature, but not a deal breaker.
- blhack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why do all of the iPod fan bois imediatley sa that people are jealous if they don't like any of the ipods. I like the iPod...the REGULAR ipod that has like 40 gigs of storage space and plays mp3s. The ipod nano is just STUPID, yes i've seen them, yes i've used them, i really don't CARE how small the damn thing is. If you want to actually start impressing people make the thing have an AM/FM tuner in it...have the fm modulator build into the thing, include a voice recorder, video playback, and support every single media format that there is. Then we'll talk.
appearantly this is 'off topic' wtf? I like how if you set the filter to -3, anything said AGAINST the ipod is rated at least to a negative one, while ANYTHIING stupid piece of garbage FOR the ipod gets rated at +3. We need a system that requires several people to agree on a rating before we basically give everybody on digg the power to delete comments. - kenok, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0***** "love your own" mentality.
- underburn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ill take an Apple Smart Phone over any Crap Motorola Phone anyday (Even if the Apple phone sucked ass it wouldnt be as bad as a motorola phone running a laggy OS)
- slurp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0nano has ecyema problem if you screw it, it will come out in scratches
- martinj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Ill take an Apple Smart Phone over any Crap Motorola Phone anyday (Even if the Apple phone sucked ass it wouldnt be as bad as a motorola phone running a laggy OS)"
Apple fan boy...willing to accept crap because it is made by Apple. what a joke. Jobs has you all conned. - maverick999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Motorola is backpedaling now...
http://digg.com/apple/Zander_doesn_t_really_want_to_Screw_the_Nano... - martinj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I own a 4GB Ipod mini...not because it's from apple; becuase it was cheaper than a RIO sport 512MB...i paid 69.99 from mixitforme a couple months ago. I would not pay the 199.00 for it...it is not worth it.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Stupid, left-winged, Apple hippies! GET A HAIRCUT!
- earthtoandy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0looks like someone is pissed that the nano upstaged theri crappy phone
- Pacotheparrot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"IPOD NANO PWNS YOU!!111 rofl lol"
^What I would say to Zander.
But in all seriousness how can you call the Ipod Nano, a stupid product? I saw my first one in public today and boy did it look good. Also 1000 songs is plenty for me to haul around at a time. I think Zander is just majorly bitter.
Peace - silentauthority, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow... I think I could say "who would want to listen to only 100 songs?"... The iPod is for listening to music... I think I'll keep my cell phone and iPod nano (which I don't have, only a 20gb) seperate, thanks. I don't care what some Zander dude says.
100 songs is not much at all. - Kashey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Screw the nano," said Zander. "What the hell does the nano do? Who listens to 1,000 songs? People are going to want devices that do more than just play music, something that can be seen in many other countries with more advanced mobile phone networks and savvy users,"
Motorola should do what it's best for - 2 way radios. Now imaging having your radio combining with FM Mp3 player and Camera. Downloaded call tones and "Rodger" tones that play for minute with fill polyphony. Anyone who is used to use radios will go crazy. Nano is for MP3 and shell be only for mp3. If I need a picture I'll get my Canon. If I need a radio I will get only radio. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow. Sounds like he's pissed that the nano upstaged the ROKR. In truth -- if the ROKR was a better product, which all the reviews clearly say it isn't, this discussion wouldn't be happening.
Really, why does it seem like everyone in the world feels *entitled* to ride on Apple's coattails? He should go join that guy from Sony in the Whiner's Room. - krahzee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Why would you want a radio in it? I bought an Ipod so I wouldn't have to listen to the godawful FM airwaves."
That's you. Others like the idea of being able to switch from one function to another.
Me personally, I'd love to see an ipod come out with AM (For Sports), FM and either XM or Sirus. Give me one device that I could use to listen to what I want no matter what time of day it is, wherever I am.
For example, how great would this be for the person that goes to the gym after work. Some days the game is on, so you listen to that. Some days mp3s, Or your favorite satellite station on the way home from the gym or on your commute.
With the amount of Ipods already sold I could see this as a possibility down the road for satellite. Sort of the same logic for having it built into cars. Compared to the satellite units out now, people will be more likely to buy this if they know that even without the subscribing to satellite they still can use it for the other features.
As far as Music on my phone, I'd pass. I don't want to run down my charge listening to music and miss a call. Besides, they can't even get phones with great coverage in my area yet, let them fix that before they worry about music. - martinj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Leo just posted his radio show and he spent most of it talking about Katrina...Yeah the logic of some...they would rather wait three weeks for a for an out of date podcast to be posted than to listen to a live show.
- jman420, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I could care less about the ippd and the itunes phone. I use apple computers for one reason and one reason only.
- emocean, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0digg cause it's funny
:: - Metman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0iRiver has the FM radio. Which I am sure 95% of you could care less about.
However, if you know even a little about electronics you can spend 25 mins turning that FM radio into a FM transceiver with @5ft range and minimal battery life loss (mine lasts about 14 hours).
If the Nano or ANY iPod would a) include the FM Radio b) include a transceiver then I too would be a iPod fan... but they don't.. so I am not.
note: I do not recommend you mess with your iRiver unless you know what your doing. - frem001, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I can get an Iriver MP3 player with FM radio and LCD screen at cheaper price. If Ipod has FM radio then i will change my mind"
That is why i bought an ipod because there is no point listening to advertisments all the time! The logic of some people on here! -
