- outsidethebox, on 11/09/2007, -7/+178Adium all the way!
- inactive, on 11/07/2007, -1/+83Misleading topic, they are upgrading it to Windows Live Messenger, like what happened on Windows, and adding the missing/incomplete features (Video, voice, etc.)
- Quactaur, on 11/07/2007, -3/+67It's incredibly popular in the UK and quite a lot of Europe, actually.
- ideas1, on 11/08/2007, -4/+56Now if i could only make them kill msn spaces
- exomni, on 11/08/2007, -3/+43Stupid thread title. They're dropping MSN Messenger for windows, too.
It's now called Windows Live Messenger, and it has more compatibility for the mac than any Microsoft messenging app before. - aaronmcdonald, on 11/07/2007, -14/+50Who needs it anyway its gotta be the worse instant messenger there is for the mac!
- SiNN4R, on 11/08/2007, -4/+36They probably got tired of the Mac programmers and having to pay so much money for starbucks and turtlenecks.
- Squigy, on 11/07/2007, -1/+32I have friends in USA, Canada, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Japan, Korea, China, UK, France, Spain, Switzerland, Argentina, Peru, and a few more places....
The only ones that doesn't use MSN are the guys from the US. - AirRaven, on 11/07/2007, -1/+30How does "The majority of Western Europe, Canada, and Australia" sound to you?
- Freonce, on 11/07/2007, -4/+31I use MSN.
...so that's one. - theradical, on 11/07/2007, -1/+27It's really the main thing people use in Canada. AIM is totally foreign to us.
- philo23, on 11/08/2007, -2/+24i cant wait for the video and voice support which will hopefully appear in version 2
- mlostracco, on 11/07/2007, -2/+21It's also incredibly popular in Canada, whereas AIM is barely on the radar here. Bleah.
- euro22, on 12/17/2008, -0/+19I wish I had friends :(
- acu8509, on 11/07/2007, -2/+19Yes i agree with Quactar. If you have any foreign students from across the pond (assuming you're in the US), ask them what IM client is used the most. If you think about it, it makes sense. Most people who use AIM we're brought up on it, and in the EU where there was no America On Line, people used the next best thing, MSN.
- jaygray, on 11/07/2007, -0/+17I can't think of a single person I know who doesn't use MSN (I'm in Canada btw). As far as I know, AIM is completely useless to most Canadians. Which sucks because I would love to give iChat a try.
- wellyuk, on 11/07/2007, -1/+17A ***** load of people in Europe.
/waits for the "who gives a ***** about Europe" comments. - Kenzan, on 11/07/2007, -4/+19Buried for misspellings and bad grammar in the title.
Oh, and because this is lame and irrelevant. - Me1000, on 11/08/2007, -2/+17everyone I know!
- chrisb62, on 11/07/2007, -2/+16um... how bout the rest of the world? silly americans..
- Godlesswanderer, on 11/07/2007, -1/+14Yup, it's weird to find someone using something different over here (UK). I have accounts with MSN, Yahoo and AIM but MSN is the only one I sign into every day; I never sign into AIM and I sign into Yahoo about once a week.
- theradical, on 11/07/2007, -0/+12To Americans, we're not really people.
- theOster, on 11/07/2007, -1/+12I use Pidgin
...so that's .... four. - roberto_deneero, on 11/07/2007, -0/+11Don't hold your breath. It should be here by 2027. Those guys are notoriously SLOOOOOOOOW on development.
- FoxOrian, on 11/07/2007, -1/+12If I lived in a foreign country, I sure as hell wouldn't be using AIM -- [the A stands for America Online, mind you.]
- mandarin, on 11/07/2007, -0/+11I hate AIM...
- FunkyWitDaSysTm, on 11/07/2007, -1/+11with advance configurations, you can make ichat support anything.
btw, i know everyone has a boner for adium (it does rock), but i video chat with almost everyone in my contact list. THANK GOD adium is finally getting AV support. that was all i was waiting for. - kris33, on 11/07/2007, -0/+9We are terrorists.
- dezman2003, on 11/07/2007, -3/+12Um everyone gets it for free, why comment on something your completely ignorant about?
- emorphien, on 11/07/2007, -0/+8People from europe and much of asia use MSN messenger quite a bit, in fact with almost all the international students I've known, they use MSN and not AIM or any other chat service.
- stalefries, on 11/07/2007, -0/+8Have you seen aMSN? It's pretty ugly, but at least it works and doesn't have ads.
- luchid, on 11/07/2007, -2/+10Those weren't "dropped", they were never ported to begin with...
- MammasMilk, on 11/07/2007, -0/+8Meh... i didn't even reaize there was a MSN messenger for mac, don't know anyone who uses it. And IE, maybe that was a mistake, driving Mac users to Firefox, but I think they were trending that way anyhow.
MS Office is the only Microsoft product I or anyone I know w/ a mac really uses. And that's mainly for the work/office environment to gel w/ co-workers who have PCs. - donsherio, on 11/07/2007, -0/+8Just incase it hasn't been made clear already, MSN is used by every other country but the USA :P Its insanely popular in Europe and Canada and all around the world. The only people who use AIM are Americans..
- gharding, on 11/07/2007, -0/+8Yeah, I was really sad to see IE Mac go away. I loved being able to open pages and not have it look at all like I had wanted.
- colincornaby, on 11/08/2007, -1/+8The article title is misleading, they're actually re-writing the Mac client from scratch as a full featured program.
- stewacide, on 11/07/2007, -0/+7very misleading title: they're stopping development on the current codebase and are going to release a WHOLE NEW BETTER VERSION!
- ipaiba, on 11/07/2007, -2/+9I turned to other messengers long ago. MSN Messenger is pretty good looking, but it can be slow loading, clunky and not as streamlined as Gtalk, etc.
- Me1000, on 11/07/2007, -1/+8A video editing app is a bit harder to port than an IM client!
- exomni, on 11/07/2007, -0/+7Trillian sucks. Welcome to Adium, the only good chat client in existence, and only on the mac.
- theradical, on 11/07/2007, -2/+8I would not call MSN the next best thing to AOL, unless by next you mean better than.
- theOster, on 11/07/2007, -3/+9i follow you around with my 300 fake digg accounts and bury everything you say
- inactive, on 11/07/2007, -3/+9What's the point in putting effort into software than noone was using?
- mandarin, on 11/06/2007, -0/+6yep.
- Greer70, on 11/07/2007, -0/+6Yo, Akbar! How come you weren't in the 3 new sucky Star Wars movies? You could have made them better with your gogley eyes!
- chris9902, on 11/07/2007, -0/+6RTFA.
- AlanLivingston, on 11/07/2007, -0/+5Oh how much I hated meebo. I was running under Windows and we used meebo to get around some IM after the MSN servers stopped supporting MSN 7.5. First, it's a web app and I despise web apps. Second, they could never figure out how to make the task bar flash when a new message came in.
Then you had to clear their goofy blog entry every morning. I mean, who cares that some bimbo doesn't get bagels any more because the company is expanding so fast and these new developers eat all the bagels? If she had any balls, she would have just stared at the new guy until he offered her his bagel. Damn hippy software weenies... - vertinox, on 11/06/2007, -0/+5If you have ever used it, you would have to say it was a mercy killing.
- AROZ, on 11/07/2007, -0/+5Very true. I live in Canada. In terms of IMs, I've always been asked "do you have MSN?" by new people I've met. Now those people are more inclined to use Facebook though.
- Torpov, on 11/07/2007, -2/+7You forgot the berets, too.
