- noutoo, on 07/16/2009, -75/+1242Wait Wait Wait. It's OK for Apple to dis Microsoft but the second Microsoft calls Apple expensive you get all whinny and ask them to stop?? If I was Microsoft I would double up cause it must be working.
- Decivox, on 07/16/2009, -49/+649This makes me laugh. Apple has there I'm a Mac, and I'm a PC campaign, so Microsoft steps up to the plate and starts to fight back. Once Microsoft steps up to the plate, Apple gets angry and wants their ***** removed?
Give me a break, welcome to the world of buiness and competition. If you dont like it, GTFO. - dewdude, on 07/16/2009, -107/+658No, seeing as how Apple will do anything in their power to make them look good..I believe it. It sounds like something childish Apple would do...."your ad is too honest, get rid of it"...let's not forget Apple is the same company who locks thier operating system down to their systems and has sued anyone that's attempted to make a clone. I seem to remember the only lawsuit they didn't win over a clone was with VTech in the 80's over the Laser 128.
- SirBruce, on 07/16/2009, -61/+530Stay classy, Apple.
- Misinformant, on 07/16/2009, -64/+525Pretentious dicks at Apple can deal it but they can't take it.
How many years and millions of dollars have they invested in stereotyping PC users as 'un-hip' losers?
***** you, Apple. I'm a PC. - trendygamer, on 07/16/2009, -37/+412Sounds like somebody is annoyed that their old fogey competitor finally figured out a good strategy. Hey Apple, maybe your ads should stop implying (or just flat out stating) that people who use other computers are all nerdy looking, awkward dorks. Insulting the market you're trying to acquire seems a bit off to me, and really does establish your company as a bunch of elitist snobs.
- B1665r, on 07/16/2009, -34/+401BILLY MAYS HERE!
- rnawky, on 07/16/2009, -58/+343Not to mention Apple's ads are completely inaccurate and misleading.
The one I'm thinking of right now is where there's 1 mac and 100 PC's and that women wanting a PC.
Women: "I want one that's fast"
PC: "Okay slow PC's get out"
and so on, till she says something like I want one that doesn't crash, have viruses, or gives me headaches
Has Apple never heard of a Kernel Panic? And the last time I used a Mac I spent most of my time looking at a spinning rainbow ball waiting for applications to load. Oh, and we all remember that Virus in iLife? I think? Something on BitTorrent that had a Mac Virus in it.
Complete lies. - rlinhares, on 07/16/2009, -170/+421***** YOU APPLE. MY NEXT NOTEBOOK WILL BE A WINDOWS OR A LINUX. FOR HALF THE PRICE OF A LAME MACBOOK.
- brodycrider, on 07/16/2009, -16/+224yes, a business executive is going to run the risk of being sued for slandering another company for financial quick cheap shot. makes perfect sense to me.
- Twinnie, on 07/16/2009, -11/+202Why are some people finding this so hard to swallow? Remember that time Apple shipped a bunch of iPods with a virus and they blamed Microsoft?
- techweenie, on 07/16/2009, -62/+251I doubt the characterization of the call by the Microsoft COO is accurate, but several of the Laptop Hunters ads are incorrect now that Apple has repriced their MacBooks.
Having said that, I'm sure the Microsoft ads had something to do with Apple lowering prices. - ontain, on 07/16/2009, -10/+182I deal with Macs that have applications crash all the time.
- reefrmad, on 07/16/2009, -8/+154"Because of the nature of the adds, naturally six months of LILF adds did far more damage to Apple than 5 years of "I'm a PC" adds did to Microsoft."
Wow... are you going to cry now? - FredFredrickson, on 07/16/2009, -10/+146A mere $100 off. They're still way over-priced compared to the rest of the market, and people are realizing it.
- AmazingSteve, on 07/16/2009, -16/+150Apple just doesn't like anyone pointing out the obvious. That buying a Mac is buying an overpriced fashion accessory for Twittering at Starbucks with. If they were left with nothing but the die hard Mac zealots, they'd be right back to where they were a decade and a half ago. On the brink.
- kingmanic, on 07/16/2009, -8/+136'I mean God, once you reach x units of ram, what more do you need?'
You may want to reflect on the historic error of your statement. - ruskicommi, on 07/16/2009, -4/+131Did you type that with a straight face
- stuffradio, on 07/16/2009, -1/+127For those of you who don't believe him: http://blogs.zdnet.com/Ou/?p=346
- diggerpleez, on 07/16/2009, -11/+134This is merely proof that Microsoft doesn't have a monopoly on douchery.
- xDynaBlade, on 07/16/2009, -25/+137So Apple can have the "I'm a Mac" ads, but Microsoft can't have "I'm a PC" ads? Sounds like a toddler argument to me.
- AmazingSteve, on 07/16/2009, -9/+119Umm, these ads were out long before the so called price drops. More accurately, the drop occurred when the ads appeared to be working. They're STILL working and so now Apple pulls out it's "go to" play, the lawyers. Apple maybe wants to pick a fight it can actually win because MS has the money to bury them and the ridicule that'll come with this isn't going to do them any good.
- KSUdesigner, on 07/16/2009, -0/+104"The Apple adds were designed to reassure people who purchased macs that they made a good decision. They were also designed to appeal to people who were previously mac users but gave up on the brand in the dark days of the 90's."
No. Ads are not designed to target people who have already purchased your product, that would just be ***** stupid. Why would you spend millions on an ad just to reassure someone that they made a good decision? Ads are designed to target people who might purchase your product. - Elranzer, on 07/16/2009, -6/+103You know what DOES pass the ***** stick test? You signing all of your goddamn posts.
- jcr - FredFredrickson, on 07/16/2009, -4/+92Aside from that, I think Apple did a lot of damage to Vista. They turned the public sour on it before it even had a chance to try it, and now it seems most of the people who bash it online have never even used it.
- AmazingSteve, on 07/16/2009, -10/+97Facts make fanboys cry.
- pcpimpster, on 07/16/2009, -32/+109Yeah... and the "I'm a Mac" commercials are just so full of facts...
At least the Microsoft ads tell the ***** truth. Get over yourself Apple. - zimsters, on 07/16/2009, -26/+97Apple, don't start fights if you're not willing to defend when fought back against.
the mac versus pc ads are mostly wildly inaccurate and misleading. At least microsoft tells the truth that you get better value out of their systems! - brodycrider, on 07/16/2009, -19/+87price is a valid point. you can't sue the other side for bringing up a legitimate flaw of yours. that's the point of debating. apple is cheating. what apple is saying here is, we can make fun of you, but you can't make fun of us.
- Threlly1, on 07/16/2009, -26/+86I want to hear both sides of this tall tale 'fore any be'atches are 'slapped'
- jaxparrow, on 07/16/2009, -9/+68Sorry, I may not use the internet enough, but I have no idea what that means and I just dugg you down because everybody else is.
- Kaiosama, on 07/16/2009, -17/+76I bought a Toshiba model laptop just recently for $650 at best buy. I walked by those $1000+ Macbooks and never looked back.
I mean God, once you reach 4-6 gigs of ram range, what more do you need? - mehan, on 07/16/2009, -5/+63why doesn't OEM count?
- asskicker32, on 07/16/2009, -4/+58I make a living off of Macs that crash all the time.
- LinuxCobra, on 07/16/2009, -0/+51The MS ads state $1000 or less though... so which Macbooks are you referring too?
- jakem1, on 07/16/2009, -6/+54Microsoft made it public, not Apple.
Also, if you think that Apple have been on top of any game for the last 30 years straight then you're dreaming. It wasn't that long ago that they were the joke of the entire industry. - ruskicommi, on 07/16/2009, -10/+58You are not being dugg down for defending Apple, You're being dugg down because your argument is bad. The same thing can be said about Apple's ads. Most of them straight up lie or use nonsensical claims and accusations.
- isunktheship, on 07/16/2009, -16/+64Most XP software can be bought for 50% off (especially if you're a student), Mac OS's don't... unless you buy the whole $2k piece of *****.
My windows 7 is $50 preorder.. where the ***** are these numbers coming from. - chockster, on 07/16/2009, -4/+52"because with OEM you need to "legally" buy hardware along with the purchase.."
Completely, totally unlike OS X then? - Teh1337Pirate, on 07/16/2009, -8/+54I'm sorry but Steven's mustache screams douchebag.
- rpgmakr, on 07/16/2009, -3/+48@ruski: Bill Gates didn't say that. He has gone on the record to say so and none has found the actual moment when he supposedly said that.
- cryinlion85, on 07/16/2009, -15/+60agreed on the video editing one, that was stupid. but macs don't generally have much power for the price. the VAST majority of mac users don't need power because all they do is pretend to write novels in starbucks while posting on their friends' facebook walls.
i loved apple ten years ago. now they're just a bunch of douchebag yuppies. - shuffle, on 07/16/2009, -19/+64FreeBSD fork? Ha ha. Right.
- Moosejoose, on 07/16/2009, -5/+49According to Wikipedia "The term 'computer virus' is sometimes used as a catch-all phrase to include all types of malware. Malware includes computer viruses, worms, trojan horses, most rootkits, spyware, dishonest adware, crimeware, and other malicious and unwanted software". I'd say 99% of the 'viruses' that I remove off of peoples computers are trojans and ***** from MyWebSearch adware, so then if we don't consider these true viruses then windows doesn't actually have that big of a virus problem.
- Elranzer, on 07/16/2009, -1/+44A MacBook at $999 doesn't count as "under-$1000" since you gotta factor tax and sometimes shipping in the equation.
- wontstoptalking, on 07/16/2009, -4/+47Damn straight
- hpi5555, on 07/16/2009, -4/+46CAPS LOCK = AWESOME!!!!
- Kaiosama, on 07/16/2009, -5/+46Touché... but I think you know what I'm getting at with regards to the contemporary PC/Mac technology we have for the time being :-)
- rpgmakr, on 07/16/2009, -6/+43The Apple legal department, by being a dick, just made those ads waaay more effective for this kind of headlines.
I don't really hate Apple but their legal department is full of dicks. - fallingdamage, on 07/16/2009, -0/+36"The Apple adds were designed to reassure people who purchased macs that they made a good decision."
as in "There there now.. I know we just hosed your credit cards' limit and you wont be able to share most of your data with your friends who took the /value/ route, but look! its got a glowing logo on the back of the lid and it keeps your lap warm! High five!" -
