The fun comes when the ripoffs are better than the original :D. - Terc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21I'm waiting to pass judgment on which is best until I see the OS at work, assuming that is, that this is even real.

- fanboydcs, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13negativefx, we have seen how it works during Macworld, they had an entire keynote on it. Apple can show their products very well that way, when they showed the original ipod, I knew exactly how it would work because of the keynote before it. Apple isnt going to switch anything between now and june...

Welcome! You must be new to the internet. ;) - forteller, on 10/12/2007, -7/+14Talking about cheaper and better specs, you should check out the current PMP from Meizu, the Meizu M6 miniPlayer. Just as this M8, some people feel that the M6 looks just too much like another Apple product, but I think it's awesome anyway! It's a portable media player that supports mp3, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, and AVI. And it's not dependent on any software on your computer, so it works with any system. You can get a 4 GB version really cheap on eBay. Read some reviews:

(Hey, at least I'm not another Apple fanboy.. :) - DreKor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I think Apple needed to consider the dual radio approach, just like these guys did. Selling a phone that had unlocked GSM and generic CDMA in the US would be a lot cooler than the current Cingular only/WiFi combo. We should keep the WiFi tho.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6To piss of clueless fanboys like you.

- geekee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3So is Apple going to sue LG and Prada for "ripping off" their phone too, even though it will get to market first? The Apple design is not that original.

Oh and not to mention that the notebooks have only one touchpad button. - GruffPelt, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6My gut instinct is that this is a fake designed simply to garner attention. But if this is a real product, it certainly won't be released anytime soon with some of the listed specs.
1. TD-SCDMA is not yet an approved spec -- it's barely in draft form -- and will likely not be approved until late this year, at the earliest.
2. Other articles on this device list it as including WinCE Mobile 6, which won't be available until mid-year 2007 (WinCE 6 is available now, but WinCE Mobile is a specialized version).
3. In addition, the WinCE Mobile interface certainly doesn't look like the iPhone or the mockup shown, so they'd have to do quite bit of "adjustment" to it. Doing so will likely violate their Microsoft Terms of Use (note that the Microsoft logo is hidden -- not a good thing).
4. None of the articles on the device list is as having any form of capacitance-tocuh or multi-touch interface, something that the maker certainly would want people to know, so it's likely that it's a stylus-driven interface.
5. None of the articles on the device list is as having any form of WiFi, again, something that the maker certainly would want people to know, so it's likely that it won't have it.
6. All articles that list battery life infer that it has just a single battery like existing SmartPhone products
7. Even if they haven't trampled on Apple's patents, they will certainly get hit with a "Look and Feel" lawsuit as soon as the device is released.
To sum up, likely a fake and if not, it won't be available until very late in the year and they have some problems to overcome. - nickway, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Imitation is the highest form of flattery.
- adriantr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Well hope this is real and Meizu produces it. Would be very nice. Cheaper... more features.... who cares if it isn't load with proprietary software and impossible to mod?
- mobilitatis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That´s Right!
- etx313, on 10/12/2007, -1/+33G? GSM? I'll take three. No, make it 5.
- Avalontor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2why not, do you believe the whole world has to follow American patent laws? The Taiwanese sure don't care about them. They reverse engineer everything and sell it. Not practically duplicating it but actually duplicating it. What you going to do about it?
- AJRiddle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I actually have a Meizu Miniplayer M6 (4GB) and love it. Its a great product and I see no reason why this wouldn't be another great product from Meizu.
- negativefx, on 10/12/2007, -13/+15@fanboydcs: and anybody can say 'amazing OS' and 'ease of use' before ever seeing the device in action.
But then again, 'Its not about how the device looks, its about...smooth graphics'. Contradict yourself much? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Good for meizu. If this is real, it will be all that the iPhone is not, and something that's actually *useful* for business users rather than an apple cult thing, like excel/word/outlook syncing, writing your own apps, using one of the thousands of publicly available wince apps etc.

What makes you think the iPhone has more than one battery?
You certainly aren't referring to Roses' rumor mongering are you? The one where he said it will be small as *****, have a slide-out keyboard and be available with any service provider? There is no indication that the iPhone has more than one battery. - enicholas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@somnus: Their laptops still only have one mouse button, and considering laptops are their best sellers... I'd say they're still firmly on the one-button bandwagon.

Not smoking anything and definitely NOT a MS fanboy, although you must be using the Apple iBong(tm) to come up with your comments.
How 'bout this for some explaining...
As I said in my comment, if you'd read it instead of naming Apple's product line and claiming innovation, is that iPod killed their ability to innovate by making them too large to quickly capture market trends (iPod). All of the innovations you claim are prior to the gargantuan iPod with the exception of AppleTV. AppleTV is not an innovation, as any SlingBox user could tell you. They are now in the Microsoft category as technology IMPROVERS, not INNOVATORS. Someone else will innovate, they will integrate with their monster product, and then improve with features specific (proprietary) to them in order to further their revenue stream and retain market share (Windows anyone). With corporate size comes the undeniable effect of bureaucracy, shareholders, and hunger for more profits; it cannot be denied. Look at any creative company that created a product that everyone embraced and was a forerunner in some field (RealPlayer, Windows, iPod) and you will see the point I am trying to make. The touch-screen, muti-tasking cell phone has been around forever, except it hasn't had iTunes music store integration for music and TV until now. It will be big, but definitely not innovative, and the big will come from the iPod's market share.
innovative
adjective
1. ahead of the times; "the advanced teaching methods"; "had advanced views on the subject"; "a forward-looking corporation"; "is British industry innovative enough?" [syn: advanced]
2. being or producing something like nothing done or experienced or created before; "stylistically innovative works"; "innovative members of the artistic community"; "a mind so innovational, so original"
So in closing, put down the iBong(tm), your iLighter(tm), and your iBudz(tm). Point has been explained. - nixonrichard, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3The patents are wonderful, but the problem with using a minimalist design strategy (like Apple) is almost none of the "design" features of your products are protected . . . because they aren't unique enough. They're beautiful in their simplicity, but you can't get a copyright, trademark, or patent on "simplicity." Apple's lawyers probably will have their hands tied and beg apple to add some identifiable features to their products . . . maybe some ridges or something like coke did with their bottles.

"Was Ive "influenced" by OpenMoko? Be honest with yourselves ..."
Honestly, no, it doesn't possible that he was.
Why? For one, OpenMoko was announced a little over a month before ME. Given it has been in production for two years and they had a working prototype at ME, it highly unlikely that anyone on the Apple team even saw it before the iPhone design was finalized/in production.
Second the only thing they have in common are form factor which is dictated by the product itself. Large touch screen, a button, a speaker a mic and as small as the hardware allows. Probably most new phones for the foreseeable future will look similar, there are only so many ways you can package that feature set. Apple's design is pretty and very nice, but it is pretty much just following the hardware. I would say it would be hard to claim that the Meizu is a direct copy of the iPhone either. Had there not been an iPhone, we would still see phones that are starting to look like this.
Though an arguement could be made that Ive had an influence on even the Moko even though it precedes the iPhone. The clean design of the Macs and iPods over the years have impacted industrial design quite a bit. Clean, shiny, slick consumer electronics are become much more commonplace than they were pre-iPod. - NoTreason4, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1
@dynamolife- love to see an innovative argument from you linux fanboys. You hate apple because they are innovative. Its funny you say they haven't been innovative since the ipod. The ipod came out about 5 years ago... lets see, how many innovations has microsoft come out since you've been alive? Same as the number since theyve been in exstance-- none. Well, you could say the idea of charging people for your product even if they don't buy it is innovative, but wer'e talking technical innovations.
Its amazing that you haters are always making statements that show just how ignorant you are-- you seem to think that the slingbox does what the appleTV does. Jesus, ever look into the products? Completely different purposes... the Apple TV is about watching TV shows from your computer on your TV. The slingbox is about capturing your cable signle and sending it out over the internet.
Oh, who am I kidding, you think using the word "iBong" is some sort of clever attack... you're beyond reach. Your kind have been around and bashing Apple since the 1980s, even before the Mac. (and before you were born, no doubt) The sad thing is, too many people can't tell the difference between pretend geeks like the linux and MS fanboys that inhibit digg and slashdot-- and real engineers who actually know what they are talking about.
All you do is serve to keep technology retarded by buying products from companies who wouldn't know innovatinif they saw it -- such as the current makers of "smart" phones. - binderskagnaes, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Boooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!! I want the Apple logo () and unique Apple features!
- smhill, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1They just announced it, it hasn't launched yet. iPhone will take a while because of FCC. And Apple hasn't filed any law suits over any of this, it is just forum speculation.
But it is a natural evolution of things. Full touch screen, more robust feature set, etc. It is inevitable that many companies have been working in this direction for a while. Apple didn't pull the concept out of thin air to create something that is completely original in terms of features or form factor. To some degree much of this has been around for several years. LG didn't innovate it. Arguably Palm did, and even the Newton to a degree. (actually, Apple should have called it the Newton, to give some historical weight to it). It is the culmination of the direction of many products over the years, Sony, Palm, Treo, BlackBerry, etc...
But what Apple is doing is ground-up rethinking the process and every detail of it. Most smart phones are just Win Mobile with skins or that crappy LG OS all kludged together. Awkward and bulky. Apple didn't invent the MP3 player, they just made it better and more usable. That is the goal with the iPhone. User interface is Apple's strength, that is what they attempting to bring to the mobile phone. Hopefully they have done it.
I wish every company would put more effort in UI. My microwave's UI sucks, Comcast's UI sucks. There are very few products out there with decent interfaces. - Topher06, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well, you don't need to blatantly rip off Apple to make something as good as, or even better then their products. But, good luck with that lawsuit because unless its exported outside of communist China, Apple can't touch them. With over a billion strong marketplace, most Chinese companies laugh at international patents and trademarks as they can rip anything off and sell it in their own country, and make a mint.
- dynamolife, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@shrimpdesign,
But I bet they patented the touchscreen interface that OpenMoko is using. Oh, and it probably won't be called an iPhone on release. We'll need to wait for their litigation with Cisco on that one. - NoTreason4, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Fanboy is someone who takes a position based on ideology without regard for reality. On Digg, all the fanboys you find are anti-apple.
Pro-apple people talk about features and specifics and engineering details. All the fanboys can do is bash apple on vagueness, made up FUD, and call those who are not fanboys "fanboy".
For instance, despite the fact that the iPhone costs less or the same as other smartphones, fanboys bitch and moan about how "apple fanboys will overpay for anything with the apple logo".
Its as if, to the fanboys, UI innovation has zero value and thuse the world will be overrun with iphone competitors that are "cheaper and better"... just like the world has been overrun with ipod competitors and the ipod is a bare sliver of the market. - dynamolife, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@NoTreason4,
Did you even render an argument to my point? As for the SlingBox vs. AppleTV, the SlingBox will also let you watch shows from your PC on your TV. So, yes I have looked into the products. Apple will never let you stream to any device. You can, however, stream to your iPod. My argument was about the stifling of innovation by moving to proprietary devices and usage. Can you play an iTunes purchase on whatever device you want? Not without some kind of third party hack. I don't know where the "What has Microsoft come up with since I've been alive" came from. Who cares.... As for being a Linux fanboy, not. I am not a fanboy of anything. I call it like I see it. If you don't agree, at least render an argument that states facts and not something that makes a claim about being a fan of this or that. I owned an Apple IIc, which I'm sure you were still playing pong or filling diapers at that point. Get a grip and speak a cohesive argument before you come firing with shots off the bow. Are you a real engineer? You seem to imply that from your argument. Unfortunately, I think you are a propaganda engineer who serves to keep us retarded with your points. My IQ is actually 10 points lower from reading and responding to your comment. - deviousduck, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Oh well.... i've read enough ***** on here i might as well write some of my own... anything I was going to buy a iPhone before i saw the meizu m8 miniOne. some people have being talking rubbish
bout the spec or not giving full spec...
iPhone M8
screen size 3.5" 3.3"
resolution 320 x 480 720 x 480
input method multitouch tft touchscreen
connectivity Wifi Wifi
Bluetooth Bluetooth
Edge TV out
GSM 2.5G 3G
OS mighty mac OS X Windows mobile CE
Processor speed 533 533
memory (flash) 4GB,8GB 4GB,8GB,16GB
camera 2.0 MP 3.0MP(back) 0.3MP (front)
Other than that i'm told that the M8 will also be offering GPS as optional... oh yes it also has a DMB TV tuner.
Although there is no evidence of what they will be using to power it and hence no stats for battery time. The iPhone
is pretty appauling at 5hrs talktime, so will hopefully be better than that.
Just a little re-cap for the slow and retarded..... They are very similar with both having something the other doesn't
iphone has edge, mutitouch, slightly bigger screen and probably the best Mp3 playing software available,
but is not 3G (not a smart move)
The M8 has better screen resolution, TV out with DMB tuner, better camera and one for video calling, GPS and will be
availlable with a whopping 16GB storage and of course is 3G.
So read the info and decide what u need from it and whats best for you... but in my eyes the M8 is King!!!! - deviousduck, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Oh well.... i've read enough ***** on here i might as well write some of my own... Before i start i'm not a fanboy of
