- jalexhall1989, on 10/12/2007, -6/+66I like how you spelled Matt Groening....
- bpapa, on 10/12/2007, -6/+57It's pretty hilarious that a $100 .Mac account can't survive the Digg effect. That service is such a damn rip-off.
- scottylist, on 10/12/2007, -5/+43Too bad you didn't have any girls in your dorm room.
- coldfusion1970, on 10/12/2007, -3/+27@ mdhauke
Apple.com can handle the bandwith easily, but they only give DOTMac customers a certain amount of bandwith. And this links to a customers DOTMac homepage. - CrazyBot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24I'm Digging this for the guy being hungry and poor in the early days
- DelMonte, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22As he said himself, if you really annoy Matt when trying to get him to sign an autograph, he'll sign "Matt Greoning" just to piss you off.
- contradictator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17On a PC, looking for the "any key".
Much respect to anyone who remembers what episode that's from. - SansSociety, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21I like how old Apple ads had macs doing real work (Charts, Graphs, etc). Now, well..
- Rcdriver, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Its from the "King-Size Homer" episode.
"To Start Press Any Key". Where's the ANY key? I see Esk, Catarl, and Pig-Up. There doesn't seem to be any ANY key! - plagiats, on 10/12/2007, -5/+20http://duggmirror.com/apple/Matt_Greoning_s_Early_Mac_Ads/
- DeflatorMouse, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16He also did at least one giant, highly-detailed poster. I had one in my dorm room.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14WTF? It's a brochure.
- slicedoranges, on 10/12/2007, -7/+20Yes it is, you clod!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12No, he actually drew them (or at least provided them) for Apple. These character's (or their descriptions) are specific to the brochure and don't appear in his 'School is Hell' book (I own it)
He also drew a computer poster for Apple:
http://www.boingboing.net/2005/01/26/matt_groening_apple_.html - pap3rw8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I'll just order a Tab.
- AK10, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Some of these characters were in his "... in Hell" series of books. I remember reading them as a kid and they were wonderfully subversive.
Binky, how I have missed you! - Jabjabs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Strangely enough it really does... damn that advertising and it working so well! Bah!
- biff198, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Look, I'm all for Macs. In fact, you may call me a fanboy, but there was a common theme between most of the textual ads that I found somewhat annoying.
This is the first paragraph, and here we expain to you the problems you are having, which are common, and understandable.
A Short Sentence.
This is the Paragraph where the solutions are listed. It's about as long as the first one. There are more paragraphs to follow. - coldfusion1970, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14@ wootery
For me its all about Mac OS X and the synergy between the hardware and the OS.
I love the fact that my Intel iMac has two FW ports, three USB ports, video and audio out & they all works so smoothly with OSX.
I just wish i didnt have to run XP in BC to play MMORPGs. - robharper, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15You sound like a jackass.
- markdr123, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12The one where Homer starts working from home cause he's too fat.
- Asianwaste, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Bongo, Binky, Sheba, Akbar and Jeff
- PsycoMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Hey the My Life in Hell bunnys!
- jer2eydevil88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9WoW is universal... you don't have to use Bootcamp for that mmorpg
- Mexrocker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJ4aQhq2AjI
there ya go - willemvb, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14@mdhauke
pfffff. Read the word 'restriction'? They do have the bandwidth, but there are limits on .Mac member pages. And how would a microsoft server solve bandwidth issues?
edit: exactly @coldfusion1970 - MacParrot, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Thanks.for.staying.on.topic.*****
- sctechguy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I totally remember this from back in the day....I really wish that I had kept the pamphlet that these were in...* kicks self in arse *
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Kind of makes me want to go out and buy a Classic Mac SE.
- turpenine, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I love apple but dotmac sucks ass. $100/yea is less than $10 a month but dreamhost can kick it's ass in features.
- AceTracer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7It's telling that you're a moron. This story links to someone's personal webspace (which is what .mac is) and the error clearly states that the bandwidth on their account has been exceeded.
- stanleyfresh, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10"That's right, the creator of everyone's favorite cartoon, FUTURAMA, made some Mac ads back in the day."
Fixed. (Cuz The Simpsons just isn't funny as it used to be) - TechPedia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5There is a special place in hell reserved for you.
- trebe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4is there a mirror anywhere?
- ConceptJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Sorry to borrow from /., but...
You Must Be New Here. - trebe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4thanks
- mcfarag, on 10/12/2007, -7/+11I love the 1.4 MB hard drive...they don't make hard drives like they used to *sigh*
- sctechguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You know, he still does the Life In Hell series: http://hell.capefeare.com/
He has been quoted in several (recent) interviews as saying that he loves to still do the comic strip, because it's something that he gets to work on by himself, that it's not a huge production (like The Simpsons) with a bunch of people.
By the way, yes, I know that that is not Matt Groening's own website, but his website ( http://mattgroening.com/ ) has been "under construction" for 8 years now. - conradpaul, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6doesnt work
- bluenash, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5That's right, the creator of everyone's favorite cartoon, Futurama....there fixed that for you.
- jonmichaelsmith, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That last technoid one is TOTALLY an early Milhouse family!!!
- thomasprebble, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3You can definitely see his trademark style right through the pages, much of which has been carried through to the Simpsons of today.
- pinkgreenblue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Why does that rabbit have only one ear?
- sam991, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Thumbnails do if you squint
- Philbert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think Adult Swim needs an "in hell" series. The Simpsons were only created because he didn't want to risk his bread 'n' butter series on something that might fail. Obviously it didn't so why not a new series based on his original characters?
- benitojuarez, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Did you say the synergy between hardware and os?
You sound like some corporate ***** that I want to strangle during our quarterly "town hall" meetings - DelMonte, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"if it wasn't he adapted it from mac advert to his strip"
Oh but that's totally unlikely! Your conspiracy story about Apple stealing work from a then unknown Matt Groening made so much more sense! /sarcasm
BTW Matt Groening, your hero, was and still is a Mac user. - Philbert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2According to Groening it's basically so that the viewers can tell Bongo apart from his father Binky, who has 2 ears.
- stalefries, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2We like to call it "Dugg".
- nandabanaotakun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If you watch the scene where Bender is born, the computer attached to his head is a Mac.
Thus, one can only conclude that Bender runs on Mac OS. -
