- MikeonTV, on 01/07/2008, -5/+185And the fanboy of the year award goes to.....
- RubberBand, on 01/07/2008, -5/+136There wasn't a train coming, so what's the problem?
- inactive, on 01/07/2008, -2/+92So now we know the real reason why those 80 women were jumping in front of trains in the UK
- Falldog, on 01/07/2008, -2/+74Yeah, if I dropped a phone down and there wasn't a train coming, I would definitely jump down there to grab it. It'd be much more of a hassle. Besides the third rail is generally opposite the platform. So it was an iPhone, big deal.
- uncommonwords, on 01/07/2008, -2/+63i have seen a few people in the tracks to retrieve a dropped item. really not that big of a deal.
- hackysackmaster, on 01/07/2008, -0/+46uh if you dropped $500 cash in the same place im assuming everyone here would have done the same thing. Its a an expensive piece of electronics, I don't really feel like it has anything to do with the iPhone specifically..
- LostinService, on 01/07/2008, -1/+42I've personally jumped down there to retrieve a frisbee, a hackey sack, and a metrocard (I needed the transfer). This is no big deal.
- cerealjynx, on 01/07/2008, -1/+39Dear Wired Magazine
Frogger was never on NES, you should be ashamed to call yourselves nerds. - minorthreat, on 01/07/2008, -1/+34broken an ankle? received a head injury etc?? What is it with people these days? Have we became so lazy and scared of physical activity that we think jumping 5 feet with break a leg?
If I dropped a 100 dollar bill down there, there were no trains coming and I could clearly see I was not going to be electrocuted, I will jump down and get it. I'm starting to wonder who the idiots are here.... - Kakcoo, on 01/07/2008, -2/+35Original story: http://laptopmag.com/Features/iPhone-Jumper.htm
- terracottapai, on 01/07/2008, -0/+276 days in and the contest is over.
- jon02129, on 01/07/2008, -1/+22I've jumped down here in Boston for my/a friend's skateboard twice. Its really no big deal. You cross the street everyday, its no different. I have no issues with the climb, takes me maybe a second more than a curb on a street to get over. Though I suppose I can see that some people would have issues with getting back up. I personally don't see what all the fuss is about.
- gbro, on 01/07/2008, -1/+20Yeah, similar thing happened here. Except I already had the iPhone with me, I just jumped down to try and get reception.
- garageboy101, on 01/07/2008, -3/+22Aren't iPhones just to die for?
- inactive, on 01/07/2008, -0/+19Decapitated his head?
- theOster, on 01/07/2008, -0/+18this is such a stupid thing to be spending time on. a guy lost his phone, saw it in the tracks, jumped down and grabbed it, and went home. late night trains rarely run and it's very easy to tell when they're coming. big whup. did i just say whup?
- GeneralFailure0, on 01/07/2008, -0/+17"Rezvani told Laptop Mag that somebody had defecated on the line."
If it's safe enough for someone to go down there and take a *****, I don't see why it isn't safe enough for him to run down to grab his phone. - SRSco, on 01/07/2008, -2/+19LOL @ what fake Steve has to say about him: http://fakesteve.blogspot.com/2008/01/incredible-j ...
- minorthreat, on 01/07/2008, -4/+21broken an ankle? received a head injury etc?? rats??? What is it with people these days? Have we became so lazy and scared of physical activity that we think jumping 5 feet with break a leg?
If I dropped a 100 dollar bill down there, there were no trains coming and I could clearly see I was not going to be electrocuted, I will jump down and get it. I'm starting to wonder who the idiots are here.... - happyseamonster, on 01/07/2008, -4/+21In other news: Mans throws himself in front of train after receiving a Zune for Christmas.
- THETEH, on 01/07/2008, -2/+18This man must never go anywhere near the grand canyon.
- FatPhizzle, on 01/07/2008, -1/+17If i dropped a dollar on the tracks I'd go after it. Unless it rush hour and some larger stations, your chances of being hit by a train are very slim. I've been down on the tracks of the NYC subway and it's very easy to pick up something from the tracks in about 15 seconds.
- bxblox, on 01/07/2008, -2/+17frisbee? hackey sack?... your sir.... are a hippie
- mstoneburner, on 01/07/2008, -1/+16Even if it's uninsured, it's not worth your life. It's a phone.
- AndrewDB, on 01/10/2008, -0/+14"We're bricking him pronto." = win.
- Tpot, on 01/07/2008, -0/+13What's the reason?
- cosmicr, on 01/07/2008, -1/+14why was it necessary to mention that it was an iphone in the title? to attract fanboys or apple haters? or just to get it to diggs front page?
- seanhive, on 01/07/2008, -1/+13If you were standing there looking at your iPhone on the train tracks and there was no train coming, you might think about it.
- bxblox, on 01/07/2008, -1/+13i heard the same story but his legs got decapitated
- thebellmaster1x, on 01/07/2008, -0/+12Wow, man.
I mean, I hated myself when I did it, but I dugg you up. Good Lord. - nastajus, on 01/07/2008, -0/+11ingrained paranoia.
- Mononuclear, on 01/07/2008, -1/+12Simply doing something stupid does not make you a candidate. If he was hit by a train and died or was unable to reproduce then he would be a candidate. The key here is doing something stupid which results in you not being able to pass on your genes.
- noahhoward, on 01/07/2008, -1/+11You know, as opposed to decapitating his arm. :)
- LifeIsARhythm, on 01/07/2008, -0/+10I haven't dropped anything on the tracks (yet) but I really do think if I dropped something i would just hop down on the tracks and pick it up if i didn't see a train coming. It don't see the big deal. Rats really don't attack people and the third rail is on the other side of the tracks.
- FatPhizzle, on 01/07/2008, -0/+10well i meant the round trip of going down and getting back up is about 15 seconds.
- inactive, on 01/07/2008, -1/+11I once jumped onto a subway track to save a subway.
- selrahc, on 01/07/2008, -0/+10You could sue if you survive.
- bxblox, on 01/07/2008, -0/+9its not really a big deal... ive seen people hop onto the tracks to pick something up a bunch of times. you can tell when the train is coming, some stations have alarms to warn you before they do. the rats are huge but, what are the odds youll get attacked by a pack of those? and the third rail is clearly visible and avoidable since its opposite the platform edge... hopping off a four foot ledge for a few hundred bucks worth of toy hardly seems extreme...
- Jandels, on 01/07/2008, -0/+9There are many activities made illegal for the "safety of the general public". But if the average person spends a few moments to analyze the situation, these kind of things can be accomplished quite safely.
The whole "he didn't know if a train was coming" just sounds hyped up. It's very probable that the guy looked and listened for the train before going down as opposed to blinding jumping on the tracks. - StreakMark, on 01/07/2008, -0/+9i wonder if he was watching a David Lynch movie when he dropped it...
- funkychikensays, on 01/07/2008, -1/+9haha i got mugged 2 weeks ago in brooklyn, the guy took my iphone and i chased him.
i caught him and got my iphone back =D - Falldog, on 01/07/2008, -0/+8I got two things from that interview. I never want to be interviewed by Laptop, ever. And "Incidentally, someone had defecated in this tunnel we had to go through repeatedly, which was pretty horrible." WTF
- mikey2dope, on 01/07/2008, -0/+8Big whoop.I dropped a few cds in the train tracks before, and went in for it. It's really not a big deal to jump in.
- FriedTurkey, on 01/07/2008, -2/+10You might find it a bit shocking.
- freakk123, on 01/07/2008, -0/+8Yeah, I live in NY, this is not all that uncommon an occurrence, I've seen people jump onto the tracks to retrieve things of far lesser value than an iPhone...
- darkane, on 01/07/2008, -1/+9You're either a liar or an idiot. If you had been mugged, that implies they had some sort of weapon that would deter you from fighting back. If they had a weapon, you would not have chased them down after the fact seeing as how they'd still have the weapon. If they didn't have a weapon and some guy just walked up to you and demanded your iPhone and you actually gave it to them only to realize how stupid you are a few moments later, then well.. that's arguably stupider than chasing somebody that threatened to harm you with a weapon.
But I think you're just a compulsive liar looking for attention. - bxblox, on 01/07/2008, -0/+8im gettin that iphone back, see you at the station
- h4mx0r, on 01/07/2008, -0/+7butterfingers evidently.
- badjoke, on 01/07/2008, -0/+7Exactly what I was about to post.
- jalexhall1989, on 01/07/2008, -4/+10The man was heard screaming "MY BABY! MY BABY!" before he jumped into the third rail...
