- DaffyDuck, on 12/28/2007, -4/+71There were updates similar to this after 10.4 came out, and after 10.3 came out, etc. I know you weren't paying attention.
- nosecohn, on 12/28/2007, -2/+66Have you ever even used a Mac? Every version of the OS has had incremental revisions. The last one, Tiger, had 11 free updates, downloadable automatically through the software update control panel. The reason you don't hear about them is because they don't tend to cause many problems.
- newdigger, on 12/28/2007, -6/+64Am I one of the few who have absolutely NO issues with Leopard whatsoever? Everything seems to run the same if not better then in Tiger.
- adventchild08, on 12/28/2007, -8/+65I freaking wish Vista had a mammoth update this early in its lifecycle
- beerbarron, on 12/28/2007, -4/+51shiney, I hope they will include the rumored stacks improvement
- digitalpencil, on 12/28/2007, -2/+44I love Leopard; quicklook, spaces, cover-flow but in a word... 'yes', yes it does.
- Me1000, on 12/28/2007, -2/+44http://www.apple.com/store/
- scooterbaga, on 12/28/2007, -6/+37dugg for use of 'shiney'.
- rowlodge, on 12/28/2007, -5/+35i need a new mac.
- virtualball, on 12/28/2007, -7/+33Well, by that logic, Tiger had 11 service packs... It's unreasonable to compare these updates to Service Packs because they come too often.
- cwestpha, on 12/28/2007, -2/+27Ironically this may be the fastest Apple has gotten its OS stable after they released it to the public. 10.4.3 and 10.3.5 or so are the notable ones in the past. Has there even been a consumer OS deployed that didn't have bugs that were uncovered by people actually using it that the testers couldn't find? Linux releases usually take a month or two and Windows takes one or two service packs.
- thenumber8, on 12/28/2007, -7/+30how many service packs has windows released again?
- digitalpencil, on 12/28/2007, -4/+26w00t, next month! i've been waiting for this for a while now, 5.1 fixed my MBP's keyboard outages, now for my jumpy cursor! Do your stuff update.
- jtbandes, on 12/28/2007, -2/+22I don't know whether to digg or bury you. D:
- woojoo, on 12/28/2007, -2/+20Finally, they're going to fix the wireless problems. I've been hardwired to my router for weeks.
- happyseamonster, on 12/28/2007, -3/+20I once saw Ron Paul watching Firefly on his MacBook.
- MuckSavage76, on 12/28/2007, -2/+17No, but the vocal ones are the ones who are having issues. I've had very few issues, and i've deployed leopard on 8 macs so far.
- mbadolato, on 12/28/2007, -1/+13Log in at http://developer.apple.com. Java SE 6 Developer Preview 8 is available, and has been since 12/18.
- slsanity, on 12/28/2007, -0/+12You seem to have Leopard confused with Vista.
- inactive, on 12/28/2007, -0/+12No, he was the guy with a brain.
- decile, on 12/28/2007, -1/+13No issues here either.
- LanceUppercut, on 12/28/2007, -1/+12Can I please just use airport's disk sharing feature for time machine backups? I use my imac for video editing (short sightedness I know. I received a canon hv20 for christmas and I don't want to have 2 external drives on my desk. I know this feature was cut from leopard before release, but I would LOVE to have this back.
- saggygrandma, on 12/28/2007, -0/+11dont worry, it just means we get to bury you twice
- Chirp08, on 12/28/2007, -0/+10Maybe ill be able to copy large files to a samba share now, if it fixes that alone I'd actually pay for this.
And what, the, *****, there seriously needs to be a better implementation for connecting to network shares, this goes for both Windows and OSX, what genius said "hey if there is trouble connecting lets just freeze the ***** window and impede all workflow dealing with the filesystem!" are you kidding me? I should be able to close finder/explorer whenever and cancel anything its doing, especailly if I know the share is down after it doesn't connect instantly. Come on guys, its 2008, you've both got 20+ years under your belt, wtf? - SupaPuerco, on 12/28/2007, -0/+9Did you really just say "leave windows alone"? On accident?
Actually, no, you didn't. You shoved an apostrophe in there. - happyseamonster, on 12/28/2007, -2/+11Not really, they're just doing it for ***** and giggles.
- kuuhaku, on 12/28/2007, -7/+16Yeah...It's called XP
- calgone, on 12/28/2007, -1/+10Actually in his defense, Hackintosh was what got me into Mac OS. I installed it on my Dell Laptop and loved it but hated all the instability of it being wedged in with a shoehorn so I bought a MacBook :). I'll never go back!
- turpenine, on 12/28/2007, -6/+14but offer just as many improvements per update.
- Detla2.0, on 12/28/2007, -0/+7They're slowly catching on to things here, 10.3.5, 10.4.3, now 10.5.2, maybe by OS X 10.7 "house kitten" they'll have a completely solid release on the first try. Until then I'll keep using my jumpy mouse in Leopard on my MBP.
- tubeblender, on 12/28/2007, -1/+8DaffyDuck, nosecohn, and thenumber8 all refuted his comment quite well, and yet you still had the cajones to write what you did? His argument is not valid, and frankly, if I can call you frank, neither is your comment.
- TiceHH, on 12/28/2007, -2/+9Hope they fix the Stationery bug. Try this: Open a new message in Mail, choose a Stationery like "vacation", click in the text and delete the text - bang! Crash! I guess that dividing with a zero ; )
- tubeblender, on 12/28/2007, -5/+12And there you were, thinking? I don't think so.
- inactive, on 12/28/2007, -2/+9If it was my son, I would have told him not to taunt the GIANT CAT THAT CAN EAT HIS FACE OFF.
- Nossie, on 12/28/2007, -4/+11what? stfu!
So you are essentially saying that OSX which is coming up 10 years old in a year or so.... Is getting better reviews than Vista which came out this time last year? Do you see the failure in your logic here?
The difference is simple really... Apple releases less, more often and Windows releases more, less often
10 aka X is the platform (like windows or NT is a platform)
10.x is the version (Tiger, leopard etc > Winxp, Vista)
10.x.x is the 'service pack' (which like MS is an accumulation of previous 'hotfixes' and extra fixes/niggles )
And like Microsoft, apple still releases patches that change build numbers but not versions... except Apple usually does it when required and not on a particular day of the month (which personally I think is the better idea... I think MS is trying to cost cut for the sake of security here) - rickcarson, on 12/28/2007, -4/+11Actually, counting security updates, it would be a lot more than 11.
- Nossie, on 12/28/2007, -1/+8read my comment further down... I wont digg you down since you seem to be misinformed rather than trolling...
So you believe Apple releases 400mb of patches every tuesday? really? - chrisbarr, on 12/28/2007, -0/+6The only problems I had was with browsing the network, which was fixed in 5.1 and the stacks issue wich isn't a huge deal, but will be fixed in this coming update.
- kreatre2007, on 12/28/2007, -3/+9I am so happy to be getting my hierarchical menus back. I used to depend on that feature for quick access to files. Stacks makes me perform several clicks just to get at one file. Can't wait!!
- nakile, on 12/28/2007, -0/+6The only problem I'm having are with the 3rd party programs that haven't be fixed to run on Leopard yet. Most have been, but there are those few that seem to be taking forever (mostly open source stuff where the main aim is Windows and Linux).
- turpenine, on 12/28/2007, -1/+7if it makes you feel any better 10.4.11 broke my ethernet and 10.5 fixed it.
- TheBuzzKiller, on 12/28/2007, -1/+72 for XP ... i think Win2K got up to 6 or so ...
(about to get dugg down for answer a question) - iofthestorm, on 12/28/2007, -3/+9Nah, apparently they're right-winged, Ron Paul, Apple fanboys, according to most of the stories.
- inactive, on 12/28/2007, -1/+7Ugh, you are a idiot.
- weizilla, on 12/28/2007, -4/+10it's funny with this many people having mac osx problems, there very little apple bashing, as compared to how much people bash microsoft for vista
- andyd273, on 12/28/2007, -0/+5When I first read the title I thought it was for OS X Mammoth, the next version after Leopard...
Well, I'm glad that it's not going the way of the dinosaurs... - hadak, on 12/28/2007, -0/+5Rule #1, in regards to any release of OS X:
It ain't worth a goddamn until the second point release. - Midnightbrewer, on 12/28/2007, -0/+5At least you're not forced to go in through the command line and edit a plist file in order to disable Bonjour so that your computer will actually boot up. At first I thought it was my MacBook Pro, until the problem surfaced on my G5 and G4 desktops as well. Good grief, what a fiasco.
Combine that with a slew of ACL file permission issues, and you're just better off using 10.4 for now. - Dylson, on 12/28/2007, -0/+5Lets not get too carried away now.
- MacParrot, on 12/28/2007, -1/+6No, so says most sane people who are tired of your spamming ass. All you ever do is link to your incredibly lame video.
