Malcor a PR stunt! "Hacked" site Apple Matters admits the truth.
applematters.com — Apple Matters has admitted that the hacks were indeed fake PR stunts. They claim that businesses were starting to be hurt by the bad press, and have now admitted that the whole thing has been a ruse.

- MacParrot, on 11/28/2007, -3/+8Up until Hadley admitted this, I still wasn't sure whether or not this was a PR stunt. Frankly basing it on the Norwegian blog's word with no evidence beyond "We know what we know" wasn't good enough. Hadley didn't say who was actually responcible for putting the whole thing out there, but I hope those that did this will be held accountable. This was a bad idea from the beginning and when the people are outed I will avoid their sites for the forseeable future.
A slap on the wrist for AppleMatters for participating, but at least Hadley had the courage to come forward.- Ireland, on 11/28/2007, -11/+4IT'S A TRAP. THE SITE "WAS" HACKED.
If this poor excuse for a human being "Malcor" can replace the website with his own information, he can most definitely post this up. I don't believe this *****. Let's face it, what idiots would these guys have to be to admit such a stupid thing publicly.
I SMELL A FISH!! - Seidoger, on 11/28/2007, -0/+2Wow, welcome to last week

- asificare, on 11/28/2007, -3/+3Mac1s claim was right all along.

We can now of course also believe their claim that MacHeist have paid several thousand dollars to "hack the sites". Phil Rui, Glenn Wolsey, MacApper and the MacHeist guys are outed. This is BAD!- MacParrot, on 11/28/2007, -0/+1One doesn't necessarily follow the other, but no it doesn't look good.
- grawil, on 11/28/2007, -3/+5I must say that I have a new found respect for the folks at Ellis Lab hosting:
http://expressionengine.com/forums/viewthread/6586 ...
and a lot less respect for Glenn, Miles, and Hadley. At least the latter has the balls to admit he made a mistake.- Matt2k, on 11/28/2007, -0/+2What exactly did you just link to??
- holdencaulfield, on 11/28/2007, -2/+11Yeah, this was a ***** move.
let the boycott begin. not cool, *****.- Ireland, on 11/28/2007, -11/+2This is also Malcor's work, something smells fishy here. Wolsey has a totally different host and all. It's a trap!
- grawil, on 11/28/2007, -3/+7The official response from EngineHosting:
http://expressionengine.com/blog/entry/expressione ...- Ireland, on 11/28/2007, -10/+3That's funny cause Wolsey has totally a different host.
SOMETHING SMELLS FISHY HERE.
- Ireland, on 11/28/2007, -10/+3That's funny cause Wolsey has totally a different host.
- MacParrot, on 11/28/2007, -1/+7I had never gone to Glenn's site before this happened but made a point to visit after the alleged hacking to check it out. After so much venom posted against him (mostly for apparently going on and on about his set-up), I was mildly surprised to find some decent writing and a well laid out site. Nothing to get all worked up about, but it wasn't as bad as some had laid out.
IF, however it turns out that he was a willing participant in this blatantly stupid PR stunt, it will be a very cold day indeed until I return again. At this point each of the people involved need to lay out how they were involved and why they felt this was a good idea and plead mea culpa with a promise to not try such a stunt again.
It still won't get me to return to their sites, but it would be classier move than just staying silent and hoping it will all go away.- bradleyland, on 11/28/2007, -1/+3Decent writing?
"I am very sorry to post this publicly but at this point this has gone to far. Apple Matters is a big site, and it runs on Expression Engine, one of the best platforms out there. At this point this joke is begginning to impact other businesses and I cannot let that happen."
In his first paragraph there exists: a comma splice, a misspelling, and a run-on sentence. Not to mention he "learnt" his lesson. That qualifies as decent writing?- MacParrot, on 11/28/2007, -0/+1Actually I was talking about Wosley's site, not AppleMatters.
- bradleyland, on 11/28/2007, -1/+3Decent writing?
- MikeonTV, on 11/28/2007, -3/+4It was a great way for me to fine two sites that I'll never visit again.
- Ireland, on 11/28/2007, -11/+3It's a trap. These guys would never admit this if they did it. This is also Malcor's lame work.
- grawil, on 11/28/2007, -1/+6@Ireland (aka Glenn puppet)
They all have different hosts and are all in on the scam.
http://9rules.com/blogging/notes/9593/#response-99 ... - MageLordy, on 11/28/2007, -4/+1dunno, my first thought would be that this guy just posted that up to cover his ass so as to look like he never got hacked, especially if it was a large site.
- threegroup, on 06/24/2008, -3/+1Wow, the author of the post linked to here (Hadley Stern) really needs to l2english.
- V1ncent, on 11/28/2007, -1/+5I never go to that site but will definitely avoid it even if I want to go there in the future.
- RyeBrye, on 11/28/2007, -2/+1Didn't this exact same thing happen a week ago, with both stories making the front page - or is this just some strange digg echo?
- doogly, on 11/28/2007, -2/+1Wow, looks like Malcor was right all along ;) *wink*wink*
- dgh1973, on 11/28/2007, -1/+4This does seem very fishy indeed. A hacked site brings nothing but BAD pr to the site itself and the admins who run it. Nothing good can come from "pretending" to be hacked, and certainly not from admitting to it being a hoax after the fact.
So either they have crappy admins or crappy pr people... either way you slice it what's going on here is crappy. - doogly, on 11/28/2007, -3/+2This also explains why "Malcor" said he wanted to hack digg. Diggers obviously digg it, then he gets even more views, and more PR. Quite elegant no matter how disgusting it is.
- ncloverbrown, on 11/28/2007, -3/+1I care so much about this, when i saw this post a little wee came out.
- theshaze, on 11/28/2007, -7/+2You guys are all ***** retards, I still hate Apple. And my offer of 1 million Canadian dollars for the first person to write me an OSX crippling virus, still stands. (An extra million if you can find some way of destroying the hardware or make it explode some how)
- MacParrot, on 11/28/2007, -0/+2What he isn't telling you is that the million dollars will be paid in installments of $10.99 a year for 90992 years. It's all he can afford from his paper route.
- dn11, on 11/28/2007, -2/+1they had to pull this because "Apple Matters" doesn't matter?
- WaterMedia, on 11/28/2007, -0/+3Boycott these *****. The Apple community is too big to give them our time and money.
- grawil, on 11/28/2007, -0/+4why was this buried? The story of glenn being hacked had hundreds of replies and a digg of 1000+.
