- allocate, on 01/05/2009, -2/+35And I'm completely okay with Snow Leopard coming with no bells and whistles but addressing performance issues.
- iceballz, on 01/05/2009, -1/+16Over analysis of these events seems to get expectations way to high .. I am expecting there to be people talking about Macs
- zanderscoffee, on 01/05/2009, -3/+16I think they're actually going to announce an AI computer with Steve Jobs' character.
- wastern, on 01/05/2009, -1/+13Agreed, smaller, faster, smoother… all good things. My 1st gen MBP is feeling old and has a 2GB limit on RAM. I'm hoping Snow Leopard will breath new life into it. I expect it will.
It will be a nice contrast to everything else out there that adds and adds until it collapses on itself. - CressCrowbits, on 01/05/2009, -2/+12FTA: "Recent reports, however, suggest that single 32 GB flash chips might soon become available"
What?!? 32gb flash chips have been available for months. - StuartGibson, on 06/14/2009, -2/+11Yeah, well Apple denied my iWank application from the App Store. Imagine the accelerometer possibilities.
- InorganicMatter, on 01/05/2009, -0/+7Uhh, Digg is all about alternative OSes and Unix system. Apple's Macs are probably going to surpass the 20% mark in 2009 if they keep going down their current path, and the recession doesn't get them. I know a lot of people are bitter that Apple catapulted a fully POSIX compliant OS to mainstream use in only 8 years when Linux has been struggling to do so for 18 years, but you can't deny that they are by far one of the most prevalent and important open source companies, especially considering how much they contribute to upstream projects like Apache, WebKit, CUPS, and OpenSSH.
- inactive, on 01/05/2009, -2/+8And lots of the usual iPhone related masturbation.
- MacParrot, on 01/05/2009, -0/+6"lol POV bj app with "adapter""
Don't you think it's hard ENOUGH to get some these people out of their basements as it is? - Auzy, on 01/05/2009, -2/+8In terms of the iphone storage increase being announced, I don't think Apple would consider that a major announcement, worthy of macworld (especially if this is really the last one).
Apple often makes minor upgrades to many products after macworld, because some changes aren't really enough to excite people (and 16GB or 32GB, apple will still sell them).
32gb capacity on an iPhone would be a one-line statement, and there would be little chance it could be used as a segway to announcing other products (unless something like a SSD iPod Classic was announced, which is possible). It would ruin the flow of the presentation if presented seperately, so if you don't expect other ipod products, don't expect an announcement on 32gb iPhones (apple would just do it silently).
Either way though, nothing apple has released for a while has really impressed me much (they seem to have been behind the competitiors in many areas actually). - Auzy, on 01/05/2009, -1/+6I gave up on the Mac Pro's when i bought one with an X1900, and whilst everyone was using 8800's (and the iMac's had better video cards), that was all I could use.
Changed to PC now. Pro hardware needs maximum flexibility.. And Apple's video card options have always been too limited.
Whilst others are supporting Crossfire-X and SLI, Apple's are now WAYYY behind the 8-ball. - wastern, on 01/05/2009, -0/+5old iMac ad they were forced to take down
"You can never be too thin or too powerful" - ahpro, on 01/05/2009, -0/+5If iMovie and iWork move up into the cloud it'd probably be as part of mobileme and/or cost money.
- shauncorleone, on 01/05/2009, -0/+4Go to your Digg account settings and remove Apple from the topics you see. Now everybody wins, and nobody had to get a life.
- dandonia, on 01/05/2009, -3/+7Yeah I am too but I seem to remember a lot of crazy people bitching that Windows 7 and Vista didn't really add much. Funny how it seems ok when it's Apple.
- MrARPA, on 01/05/2009, -0/+4I'll be waiting for the Mac Pro updates ...
- StuartGibson, on 06/14/2009, -0/+4I thought Apple *liked* thin?
- Cowicide, on 01/05/2009, -5/+9I USE Linux, you twit. I just noticed you didn't mention one word about Grand Central. Probably because you don't know jack ***** about it and you just did a knee-jerk fanboy reaction post. So, tell me... how does Linux make Photoshop and other professional apps scream on your Linux box? Whoops... I mean, GIMP... Hahaha....
Also... if you don't understand how support for tons of high speed RAM will speed up literally everything when it's addressed properly... then I just gotta laugh, fanboy.
Typical Linux fanboy... no vision. You think they are just going to let you "plop in" some RAM and "see what happens"? - wastern, on 01/05/2009, -0/+3My bet is that there isn't an iPhone Nano, but rather an iPod Touch Nano. Smaller screen size, same resolution so all the apps still work the same, less bezel area. Although they can only take that so far, compass it too much and you lose the usability aspect, not everyone has tiny little finger to pinpoint a pixel on a 2" screen.
You can make the Touch smaller, but a phone loses its usability once you go below a certain size. Apple knows this. Notice how you don't see the mico-phones anymore that you did a few years ago. They suck to use. We could make a lot smaller phones then we have, but they bulk them up for usability purposes. iPhone nano doesn't make any sense. - MacParrot, on 01/05/2009, -1/+4While the Pro should have a better card, there are vid card available from macsales.com
- ArthurSucks, on 01/05/2009, -0/+3Uh... What?
- timusca, on 01/05/2009, -2/+5Stop spreading rumors about the man's health.... he may be dying, but you have no idea in reality. All of these assumptions are based on him being SKINNY. Someone else on Digg a couple weeks ago said he worked at Apple and saw Steve in the cafeteria every day and he looked fine.
I guess they cancel each other out. - eldridgea, on 01/05/2009, -1/+4Me too.
As long as I don't have to pay the usual $150 for what is essentially a Service Pack. - AutoTom, on 01/05/2009, -1/+4burried for being a poorly written, error ridden article.
- Auzy, on 01/05/2009, -0/+3Some people are.. I wouldn't. Can't imagine even a company like Apple being able to convince people that typing on a tinier touchscreen is easy..
Furthermore, I can't imagine it works well with their strategy. - Cowicide, on 01/05/2009, -4/+7Also, I have to ask... If Macs suck so bad... then why on Earth are you busily reading comments in a Macworld 2009 Rumors thread? How strange and pathetic.
By the way, I bet you actually don't have a clue as to how Grand Central really works... do you? Nor, its widespread implications for apps running on Mac OS X? Nah... it would hurt your fanboy pea-brain and even worse, your nerdgo... nevermind. Now please GTFO. - djnack, on 01/05/2009, -4/+7"A new Finder completely re-written in Cocoa". Finally.
- azbmr, on 01/05/2009, -1/+4Yup! - http://digg.com/apple/Steve_Jobs_admits_poor_healt ...
(not my submission) - timusca, on 01/05/2009, -0/+3Poor fanboy? I admitted that he may be dying... and guess what - it won't effect my life. My only point is that you don't know but you're acting like you do because your friend saw him driving. For all you know, he could be skinny because he's depressed, sick with some other virus, or simply old.
But I suppose you think its cool and automatically supporting your argument if you call someone a "poor fanboy". - AceyS, on 01/05/2009, -0/+3I don't even have one or plan on buying one, but I hope the Mac Mini get's an upgrade. I feel sorry for the little guy.
- L3W1S360, on 01/05/2009, -0/+3A new Mac Mini and 32GB iPhone 3G? That'd be sweet.
- gazpoole, on 01/05/2009, -0/+3they'll be waiting for the i7 Xeons before they're updated
- MtheoryX, on 01/05/2009, -0/+3That I recall, Vista was MORE resource intensive than XP, not less.
- Cowicide, on 01/06/2009, -0/+2> I bet the next thing you will
> say is that it will run windows
> better then a PC.
PCWorld says some crazy *****.
http://digg.com/apple/PC_World_Macbook_Pro_is_the_ ...
So I guess PCWorld was ***** "crazy" back in 2007?
You've been chumped. Chump. - MattBD, on 01/05/2009, -1/+3Not sure I agree about the alternative OS's point. I'd define an alternative OS as a non-mainstream one, and OS X and Linux are both mainstream IMHO (Yes, someone will say Linux isn't mainstream, but it is sold on netbooks and commonly used on servers, so I say it is).
To a certain extent you could also call FreeBSD, OpenBSD and NetBSD mainstream as they have significant real-world use on servers.
The real alternative OS's are niche ones like Haiku and Syllable. - Cowicide, on 01/05/2009, -1/+3> I won't crap my pants at the "warp drive"
> speed of a computer that can't run my software.
No, but you WILL crap your pants when the Mac runs OS X Snow Leopard AND your AutoCAD in Parallels, VMware, or whatever AND it blows the pants off your Windows 7 computer running it "natively" (as you say).
That's when you'll soil yourself and I'll be waiting here to tell you... I TOLD YOU SO.
I'll be laughing at all you turds that won't even try to grasp what Grand Central + OpenCL + a 64 bit kernel (and Apple's implementation of *****-tons of RAM with their superior engineering) + Apple's tweaks all combined will mean for not only insane speed of the OS, but MORE IMPORTANTLY -- All the apps that run on top of it. Did I also mention rock-solid stability?
Gawd... this is going to be hilarious. All you Mac haters are going to hate life so badly. Your little nerdgos are about to get pummeled. You'll probably start screaming how much better it is to run your computers at much slower speeds or some crazy *****. Hahaha
Steve has taken great pride in the past showing up Wintels with Mac speed. There was an entire ad campaign back in the day showing Intel dudes getting torched by the PowerPC processor. You think he's going to be satisfied with them running neck and neck much longer?
Nah, he's got "one more thing"... coming... Many thought the iPod, iPhone etc. was revolutionary (which I'm sure you think is over-hyped despite their meteoric rise)
Go ahead, digg me down... but please be sure to comment so your name goes down on the record here. I'll be back to this thread later this year after Snow Leopard is in play and I'll be laughing my ass off here. I wonder how many of you will show your faces then?
Mark my words. Snow Leopard is going to make Mac hardware blow away your hardware in speed. Your computers will be like those little, plastic computers you buy for children compared to our Macs running SL. The "hype" surrounding this sensation will be unbearable for you. Just like the iPhone, you'll hate it but everyone you know will be talking about it and many of them will be switching to Mac OS X for it's brutal speed.
See you then. It's gonna be... brutal. - Auzy, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2. I only found out about the cancer thing recently, and I don't know if the guy has cancer, if its reoccurring, but am even less sure about whether skinny or not has relevence (I personally didn't notice him getting skinny).
I can tell you that I noticed myself that Steve Jobs was not as bouncy as he normally was in his last few keynotes (I kept a close eye on them as I used to work at a reseller, but changed jobs to have more control over what I sold). Review all of his keynotes, and its unlike him to want to pass the show to other sales people.. His been doing that alot recently.
You must also remember that Steve Jobs IS the head of a major highly competitive company, and his not getting any younger. It could also be that things are getting more and more stressful for him, and that he realises that there is more to life then just Apple (remember, Wozniak has been off making a fortune, whilst essentially just enjoying life). I think it has more to do that he decided to resign for personal reasons a while ago, and is just "cleaning up" now. I know when I left my job that the most stressful thing to do is leave, because it is so difficult to ensure everyone is doing stuff properly. For steve jobs its an even bigger task because his seen by millions of people!
His bouncyness also seemed to go in decline mainly when Bill Gates resigned... And Bill gates was competing against Steve a lot of his life. So things probably changed quite significantly recently.
I think he is probably resigning, but there is a lot more to it I believe then cancer.. I think its more likely he would want to resign for personal reasons... - MattBD, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2Called the iJobs perhaps?
- timusca, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2But we ARE expecting possible iPhone nanos. I think that qualifies.
- krisrm, on 01/05/2009, -4/+6I think the only clueless one here is you... if you want all your horses, run Linux. Common knowledge. If you want to USE those horses, run a 64 bit version of Windows. If you want to be paying a lot of money for an upgrade that shouldn't have existed in the first place, then go with Snow Leopard. Support for multiple terabytes of RAM isn't going to somehow make your operating system faster than the competition.
- wastern, on 01/06/2009, -0/+2What denote a service pack? Just because you can't see the work on the front end? Back end work can improve the user experience dramatically.
I'm hoping its not $150 either, I think they would have a hard time justifying that to much of the buying public. But at the same time with all the features added, the new Finder, Grand Central, localization, dramatically smaller apps an OS, Quicktime X... Its hard to call it 10.5.7. Though I think the denotation of Snow Leopard is appropriate vs a totally new bread of cat - jamesmcm, on 01/05/2009, -1/+3Well OS X is pretty good because it has all the GNU core utils and a fairly good programming environment with all the security and stability of GNU/Linux but with more professional support and games too.
You get to have your cake and eat it. That said there are some issues like not being able to float any window (like on GNOME) and having to use macports for everything. - sh0rtstop00, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2Got a WSJ News alert that says Jobs got hormone imbalance.... I lol'd.
- Picer, on 01/06/2009, -0/+2The physical size of the chips may be bigger or their just too expensive.
- shauncorleone, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2It doesn't need to be a major announcement or a segway to a product introduction. They could very easily address the iPhone sector simply by patting themselves on the back for the App Store's runaway success, then announce something along the lines of a "storage and price adjustment" for the iPhone line. If there is to be a 32GB iPhone soon (and I REALLY hope there will be), I don't see them charging $399 subsidized with a 2-year contract. I could, however, see them dropping the 8GB and selling the 16 & 32GB models at $249 and $349, respectively.
Understand that I am completely biased in my speculation, as the storage capacity has been the main drawback that's kept me carrying my Sprint Touch and dying iPod 5th gen to this point. - DavidTurnbull, on 01/06/2009, -0/+2Maybe Digg people are smarter...?
Also, MacWorld is starting in like under 24 hours...maybe that's why? - MtheoryX, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2Just like everyone else.
Buy high and sell low is doing it wrong. - MtheoryX, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2Why would they move iMovie "up into the cloud" at all?
- specialbuddy1, on 01/05/2009, -1/+3I bet the next thing you will say is that it will run windows better then a PC. I like all OS's but I still can't run Autocad natively on OSX or Linux so it doesn't do me any good and I won't crap my pants at the "warp drive" speed of a computer that can't run my software.
- MtheoryX, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2Snap!
If only I could digg a comment up more than once. -
