Right! - ryanwarnersteel, on 01/20/2008, -0/+14That picture of the iceberg was certainly a misrepresentation of what was to come.
- yersoocrust, on 01/20/2008, -0/+9I bet if you take that report card in Cici's, they will let you eat free.
- inactive, on 01/20/2008, -0/+7I have to say, I knew the 3G iPhone would not be introduced. First of all, it would be insane to release another iPhone 200 days after the first version. You think people bitched about the price cut, what do you think they would do if Apple released a new phone? They would burn Apple headquarters to the ground. The 3G phone is likely to be released in June or whenever Apple breaks into the Japan market, but it won't come to the US until much later.
- dbbblondon, on 01/20/2008, -0/+5I think you are spot on about the timing of 3G co-inciding with the Japanese release
- teh_techie, on 01/20/2008, -3/+7AND... the $20.00 January update to iPod touches... ***** that!
- llsethj, on 01/20/2008, -0/+3http://www.digg.com/apple/Macworld_San_Francisco_2 ...
is a better roundup - lougoose, on 01/20/2008, -0/+3But it will be released in the US at the same time as in Japan. Apple pretty much has the same product line throughout all of the countries they are present in.
- sonictonic, on 01/20/2008, -1/+3The ONLY thing I put fault on Apple for here is not being tight enough with the announcements this year. It's obvious to me that if they had been more careful to not let all the stuff out, people would have been very happy with this keynote. The only problem with it really in my opinion is that we knew absolutely everything that was being announced already, so it made it boring! Had we not known, I think it woulda been 1000x better. I'm pissed that so many rumor sites and whatever, had to ruin this year. :-P
- virtualball, on 01/20/2008, -0/+2I agree. If I hadn't read about 1.1.3's features, I'd be blown away by the faux-GPS and the "wiggle to move" features. But alas, I "eh'd" thru the announcement.
- naonao, on 01/20/2008, -2/+4I don't care what anyone says, this Macworld was awful. $20 iPod touch updates, and the Macbook Air, which in my opinion, is the most useless piece of technology I've seen in a long time. So what if it's slim? I want functionality and most of all, a ***** optical drive. Very disappointing Jobs, hopefully you'll make it up next time around.
- r00fus, on 01/21/2008, -1/+3Look, the Air doesn't impress me, but WTF is up with people and their desire for optical drives??
I've used optical drives in my notebooks like ... 10 times in the past 8 years.
Seriously:
No optical drive -> step forward - lordtyros, on 01/20/2008, -0/+2CiCi's Pizza, our pizza tastes like trash, but it's cheap!
- MacParrot, on 01/20/2008, -0/+1While Apple's announcements were mostly not all that. The MacBook Air while cool looking is not something I would buy and the AppleTV is missing a few components to make me want one. The only thing they showed that really was something the average person might buy was the Time Capsule. Easy to use and configure NAS and backup solution.
Most of the really different products from Macworld weren't from Apple. iFrogz had a small audio speaker that sounded unbelievably good called the Vibez especially considering how small it is. It doesn't use the iPod Dock just the audio out jack so it isn't limited to the iPod. XtremeMac has a new dock connected microphone with built-in start/pause/record buttons. Lot's of other cool stuff too, most of it cross-platform, but announced at Macworld to take advantage of all the coverage. - inactive, on 01/21/2008, -0/+1Comaprared to Time Warner and HBO going online ??!?!?
Offerening better things and in HD !?!
And the airbook for travelers who NEED an ethernet port, a CD drive, who need durability, and need a replaceable battery?! Thos are real traveling users not make believe ones!
Time Capsule that is NOT BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE with other apple products??
How was it at all a success in any manner?!?! - 72doubledown, on 01/20/2008, -0/+1...like you didn't look for your xmas presents beforehand.
- internetworld7, on 01/21/2008, -0/+1Anyone expecting Apple to release new amazing products on the level of iPhone or the new iPods isn't thinking right. While Apple is the greatest tech company on earth, not even the mighty Apple can release a new killer product ever year. MacWorld 2008 is just what most expected: Many enhancements to existing products and the introduction of a few new cool products. I can't wait to get Time Capsule and a new iPod Nano.
- virtualball, on 01/20/2008, -0/+1Eh, it's better then most inner city kid's report cards :P
- Jangles, on 01/21/2008, -0/+1I think the show wasn't as flashy because most of the announcements were predicted. That isn't really Apple's fault. they had some solid announcements that were spoiled for us days, even weeks in advance.
- fkr3, on 01/20/2008, -1/+2Engadget to try and squeeze just a few more ad impressions out of it.
Coming tomorrow - Macbook Air-specific rumour report card... who was right, who was wrong, but no links to the rumours just engadget's regurgitation of them. - jhails, on 01/21/2008, -0/+1I would like to see some sales figures for the Mac book Air when they are available. I have a hard time believing there's much demand for this over priced Gucci Book. Macworld Jan 2008 was a snore fest. I saw nothing that made me want to open my wallet.
Next time more steak and less sizzle. - PabloMac, on 01/20/2008, -0/+1As interesting as "17 Things You Can Do with Beer" may be, it has nothing to do with this story. I think I hear your mother calling you from the kitchen upstairs...
- pierreb, on 01/21/2008, -0/+1Macworld was perhaps a little disappointing this year. One of the reasons for this is likely that as Apple has become more popular, it is followed more. As a result, many of the announcements had already been leaked.
On the other hand, this Macworld did not really have a real "one more thing'' with a lot of punch.
The time capsule announcement was interesting, but this will not drive much in the way of sales. The people who would seriously look at this product are those that (i) want to replace their router, perhaps to get a "n" router; and (ii) a hard drive.
The Apple TV and movie rental announcement may prove to be an important but for now, the reaction of the market is that these are changes that were expected and we now have a product that has moved from 0.5 to real 1.0. I own an Apple TV and really enjoy it but I am not sure that it will become as popular as the Ipod. Then again, the initial announcement of the iPod was viewed in a similar way.
As to the Macbook Air, interesting product and one that I am getting because it meets my needs as I looking for a portable to complement my Mac Pro. But here again, likely a product that has a fairly narrow appeal at first. - widgetmaker, on 01/21/2008, -0/+1Dugg for the not so subtle attack on gizmodo.
- cr0m, on 01/21/2008, -0/+0yeah i was surprised at how disappointing it was.

http://19292.tokyo-no1.com/ - anderzole, on 01/20/2008, -2/+2great list. The Jay-z story was all over the news right before Macworld The most absurd mac rumor I've ever seen was the stupid iphone nano reports from a few months ago.
- knowall, on 01/20/2008, -4/+4inaccurate. Mostly misses? We knew exactly what was coming.... Was anyone surprised at the keynote?

- TheWorm, on 01/20/2008, -8/+5This was the worst Macworld in a long time. Time capsule and movie rentals are okay, but aren't really big enough to make up for the Macbook Air disappointment.
