That's the current ThinkPad X61s, which btw is exactly the same size as the 4 year old X40. - badjoke, on 01/21/2008, -5/+22I still think the price for these is completely ridiculous...
- andrewcsayer, on 01/21/2008, -0/+14I'm thinking twice about every manilla envelope I see lying around now.
- fragsta, on 01/21/2008, -4/+18I wonder how long until a Lenovo fits inside a manila envelope. They could call it the Lenila.
Zing. - markwilcox, on 01/21/2008, -2/+16***** Gizmodo spam.
- GreenAlien, on 01/21/2008, -1/+13By the children over at Gizmodo no less.
- thatcrazycommie, on 01/21/2008, -4/+12That new Thinkpad is super sexy and outstrips the Air in pretty much every way.
- badjoke, on 01/21/2008, -0/+7Relative size.
- DearSergio, on 01/21/2008, -0/+7That would make Steve Jobs....Keyser Söze??
- samureye, on 01/21/2008, -3/+10I feel as though the MBA is just TOO thin? I don't want a laptop to be so fragile, though I've yet to play with one. The XPS m1330 is great enough to me. And I sort of like paying a reasonable price for stuff.
- sonicularulus, on 01/21/2008, -1/+7I just noticed, according to the Apple Store website, the Macbook Air doesnt come with the apple remote, thus no infrared sensor, thus front row isnt as user friendly....
poo. - pathy, on 01/21/2008, -1/+7I love the M1330. Such a sexy laptop, and it looks great in the red.
- truspect0r, on 01/21/2008, -0/+6Damnit bury this spam.
- DarkDx, on 01/21/2008, -3/+8What about: http://files.temple-news.com/pwn.jpg ?
- fkr3, on 01/21/2008, -0/+4It's a shame digg users aren't a little more discerning.... Gawker Media and their clone Weblogs Inc have turned trawling for diggs into a business model which sadly is flourishing.
Half their content is just rewording and obscurely-linking to someone else's work and the constant and extensive internal-linking is incredibly anti-user... if you're going to link to a company or their product at least have the decency to link to the company or their product rather than your ***** "article" about it.
Gawker and Weblongs Inc are both lame as *****, unfortunately there's an audience for that. - djdtm, on 01/21/2008, -1/+5I always wanted something easier to break when I'm frustrated with its functionality, or lack there of.
- nizzy1115, on 01/21/2008, -1/+5The 9-cell on the 1330 does 5 hours too.
- thatcrazycommie, on 01/21/2008, -1/+5Well, true, but that doesn't stop the Thinkpad design from being super sexy. That's the reason they've never changed it. And seriously, Thinkpad keyboards are pretty much heaven as far as laptops are concerned.
- harris, on 01/21/2008, -2/+6Unfortunately, none of the MBA competitors can run OS X!
- samureye, on 01/21/2008, -0/+3So does ours, keep buying oil from us, please. kthnxbi
- Karzyn, on 01/21/2008, -2/+5Dude, every IBM/Lenovo looks the exact same. Even Dell tried to make their laptop stand out. That being said, spec wise, yes the Thinkpad is far superior.
- hydratedsquash, on 01/21/2008, -4/+7What does the coke can mean?
- diafygi, on 01/21/2008, -0/+3I'm surprised nobody's mentioned the Clevo M62 series. I guess since it's sold under so many resellers. I have one, 2.8 pounds of bliss, and it's been around for over a year.
Clevo's Site: http://www.clevo.com.tw/en/products/item.asp?proca ...
Reseller Review: http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3 ... - znicket, on 01/21/2008, -0/+3What are your specific USB requirements?
I find that I rarely if ever use more than one USB at a time. I plug in the camera, download pics, unplug. Ditto with iPods and any other peripheral. - mr5150, on 01/21/2008, -0/+3I'll gladly take the X300 or SZ-Vaio with a tricked out copy of Fedora 8 over the MacAir any day.
- bwad, on 01/21/2008, -0/+3As someone who has owned a Sony TZ, SZ and now owns a M1330, I can say they have vastly different uses. The TZ is unbelivably small and they type of laptop you can throw into your bag and carry it with you anywhere, just over 1kg in weight, nice and small yet beautiful screen lets you use it even in economy class flights with the seat in front reclined. The SZ and M1330 are similar in size and performance, beating the TZ hands down. The SZ build quality is superb, but the Dell beats the SZ in price and features. As for the MBA, no Wireless WAN? No 3G support, and only 1 USB? I *might* be able to live without the optical drive, but with only 1 USB, this is insane.
- MasterPlayer, on 01/21/2008, -1/+4I personally like the alternatives for their price, inclusion of optical drive, removable battery, and (imo)other significant things the Macbook Air is missing.
- barl0w, on 01/21/2008, -0/+3Use a small USB hub? I know it's one more thing to carry, but a 4-port hub is pretty small these days.
- banmaster, on 01/21/2008, -0/+2And the 1 USB gets filled by Apple's overpriced DVD drive.
- jonshipman, on 01/21/2008, -0/+2it has an IR port
- badjoke, on 01/21/2008, -0/+2The only thing I've heard about Alienware customer service was that it was completely horrible...
- flaknugget, on 01/21/2008, -0/+2Does anyone remember a time when laptops were compared by performance, and not how thin they are? Seems so long ago now.
- diafygi, on 01/21/2008, -0/+2Grr, damn links getting truncated
http://www.clevo.com.tw/en/products/item.asp?proca ...
http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3 ... - bowe, on 01/21/2008, -0/+2Commie. Our economy needs stimulation!
- suriyou, on 01/21/2008, -1/+3Stuff it in my.. manila envelope?
- doctordbx, on 01/21/2008, -1/+3Stop ***** comparing Apples with Porsche.
When they roll out of the exact same factories as the Asus and Lenovos and are the exact same build quality... it's a tad pointless. The design isn't even that 'wow' on the new Macbooks, let alone the Macbook air. - jonshipman, on 01/21/2008, -0/+2Well that would make the MBA the Champion wouldn't it?
- MScrip, on 01/21/2008, -0/+1Or, if you need a Mac... Apple's existing line of laptops are already great. You could almost buy 2 Macbooks for the cost of one Macbook Air.
- inactive, on 01/22/2008, -0/+1It's not sexy at all, looks like any thinkpad, a bit more flat.
- jonr, on 01/21/2008, -0/+1Dugg down for using the jump phrase....
- ravi7791, on 01/21/2008, -0/+1You know another USB powered DVD drive for less?
- daborg, on 01/21/2008, -0/+1Exactly! That's why his products have sold like crazy, because... wait, hold on a second!?
- banmaster, on 01/21/2008, -1/+2The MBA breaks just by looking at it.
- inactive, on 01/22/2008, -0/+1Don't be the justification for the armies of apple hating trolls...
(I choose Mac OS BTW) - Sethd85, on 01/21/2008, -0/+1Dug for the "Zing."
- BinaryFragger, on 01/21/2008, -0/+1But a ThinkPad will most certainly outlast a Dell.
I've seen T20s and T30s that are still running strong. They're not the prettiest laptops, but they're designed to last. - banmaster, on 01/21/2008, -0/+1You'd better jump on them all just to be sure then.
- znicket, on 01/21/2008, -0/+1I concur. The frame is just a tad too wide for me.
