- matperk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+31This guy is an idiot. Who keeps using the battery when it's expanded that much?
- wstrucke, on 10/12/2007, -1/+30honestly... "Oh look! There's a liquid gunk substance dripping from the bottom of my laptop. Oh wells... gotta check digg!"
- ColinChapman, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25I seen a few Macbook Pros doing this but not as bad as that one, this might help the 15" owners https://support.apple.com/macbookpro15/batteryexchange/
- brlittle, on 10/12/2007, -8/+28@broomett:
Actually, Apple ships replacement parts/computers overnight, at their expense, and provides a return carton for the defective part, to boot.
Shows what you know, I suppose. - inkswamp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21Or it'll ***** a Zune.
- icepick314, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16looks like it's pregnant...
if you give it some time, it may give birth to few iPods next week.... - mikev, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15Please refrain from using caps lock.
Thanks. - aknowles5139, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18As tempting as it may seem, do NOT eat the gunk!
- kpavery, on 10/12/2007, -7/+18not unless you run mac os on it.
- thatsmyaibo, on 10/12/2007, -20/+31I have to say, I've seen Apple take care of its customers. My friend had a problem with her MBP, and since it was a known issue that couldn't be repaired right away, they got her a new one (mind you she bought it with the Intel chip and they replaced it with the Intel 2 chip).
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+17wstrucke...unless, of course, it is a problem with 0.0000001% of a Dell computer line. then you would call it poor quality.
Which is why no one takes you seriously. - wstrucke, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14"DUGG down as RETARDED AND ILLOGICAL !!!!!!"
umm... you too bud. - boogie, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16Another one of those "let's blow one bad computer in a batch of 1.000.000" out of proportions. Reality check: It happens!!!
With Dell & Acer it is an accepted fact. It can happen to Apple too, let's not make a fuss out of it. It happens sometimes to the best of us :-)
Just exchange the bad Apple (no pun intended) MBP for another one or check out the Exchange programs, but stop the whining (yes, now there is a pun intended :)
As Alex would say: Neeeeeext story! - Zivko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9"along with the broken keys
broken batt
broken logic board
broken power management unit"
Seems to me that you've been using your laptop as a Frisbee. - JorgeGT, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Do you know that 76% of statistics are invented in the moment of speaking, and that 23.434565% of the rest claim an accuracy not achievable with the methods used to make said statistics, wstrucke? ;-)
- TheWriteGuy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Talk about bloatware.

Deep breaths man. Deep breaths - nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9What causes it are idiots who keep using a battery after it starts to warp out of shape rather than getting a new one or thinking that something might be seriously wrong with it. I can't believe it's still in his laptop at all. Obviously he is more interested in showing people how big it can get and getting some attention than getting a new one that works properly.
- fraggle35, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8really? mine has four.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6My friend's MacBook Pro battery started to bulge. He got a hold of Apple's support and they reluctantly told him that he could exchange it out at an authorized reseller in the area. The women told him she wasn't really allowed to do anything but he complained that he thought it was a fire hazard and she immediately opened up and let it out some information.
I went with him to the authorized reseller and the battery was changed out just like that. Yup. Exciting. - renzodesign, on 10/12/2007, -14/+19lol you cant justify the fact that your's working and mine isn't by the price...
there prob are millions of working ones...
just like your peecee lappy...
its just a fault in my battery
and i paid £2009.01p
so like $4000 but it's worth the whole lot
I couldn't live without my mbp - nitriletiger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6That looks insane Renzo I hope apple support will give you some more help than they have! What did you do to it hook it up to a toaster?!
- uday0210, on 10/12/2007, -13/+18@marix:
The first comment had a URL to the Apple Support page, and the second comment had to do with a person's experience with Apple Support. I think they are related. - ptrcd003, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6"Apple would rather repair than fix something that is already damaged."
Lay off the doobie. - vspazv, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5But electricity is?
- scelestus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@ oldJimSteele
Funny how mine seems to have 4. *ding* Your fries are done. - noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You're going to be dissapointed to fid out there was a recal on these things by a group of manufacterers months ago. Not an Apple problem my mac-hating *****.
- noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It was a sparse handful of computers from all laptop maufacturers that got a batch of bad batteries. Your MB would be fine. Just do what this guy obviously didn't do. Pay attention to recall notices no matter who you buy from.
- lippe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4for reasons due tech support mainly, or issues related to that.
http://www.gearlive.com/index.php/news/article/why-apple-makes-a-one-buttoned-mouse-01280820/ - wstrucke, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5somebody should draw a picture of that and post it
- schroduggity, on 10/12/2007, -14/+18I think you struck a chord there man. what the hell are they paying for? it sure as hell isn't quality or reliability.
- UrlorJkron, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6*obligatory brown joke*
- danisse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Why are you still using your clearly broken MBP when you should be getting it fixed or replaced?
- frankinla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@ Boogie
"With Dell & Acer it is an accepted fact. It can happen to Apple too,... "
Umm, talk about your basic reality check.... There is nothing "Apple" in a Mac no more. These aren't "handcrafted" by skilled employees in Cupertino. It's all the same stuff, by the same Chinese sweat shops, that winds up in Dell, HP, Acer, Toshiba, Sony, et al. Any problems they all have will be visited upon the macs in due time. While not a popular fact, and obviously not a well accepted fact, an unavoidable fact none the less. - wastern, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5These were recalled MONTHS ago during that whole exploding battery period. I took mine into the Apple store and asked the guy for a new battery, he told me I had to go the website to do it, but not to worry too much as the issue with my system would just be what is shown here and there was no danger to it
I never has an issue with the battery, I just stay on top of the news and get things replaced when they are first found, like everyone should have. I had a new battery in 2 days - delta013, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Well... At least it didn't explode into flames... Yet...
- iashraf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's getting bigger because you're using it - stop using it and call apple care if you haven't already. Battery acid can pose a serious health risk...
- Arkonnan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Dugg down as lame. The only reason you submitted this was to generate some sort of community-driven outrage in the hopes that Apple would take notice and bump you to the top of the queue to save face. Face it, you're just another cog in the tech support machine and you'll have to wait your turn like everyone else.
- Jist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Apple is good about replacing things though. My laptop's cd-rom drive stopped working and they replaced it with a re-writeable cd/ dvd-drive. (This was years ago)
- andrewa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@beyond31
Please refrain from breathing, or otherwise infecting the gene pool. - oPoTyKaH, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4My experience with MacBook Pro:
2 batteries replaced during 9 month period. I am on my 3rd battery now.
A new battery full charged holds it for about 2.5-3 hours not even close to advertised 5+ hr capacity. - SJKat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Very true. The reality is that machines and electric components WILL fail. And in this case, the security mechanism has worked: instead of exploding or catching fire, the battery has just expanded. Now, a person with any brain capacity will take out the battery and ask for a replacement from the company that sold it. If it's not guaranteed to work for the period you have used it... Well, then you'll have to buy a new one, because the old one has gotten old.
- sishgupta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The guy must be insane to continue using the notebook in that condition. If i were him, mine would be in the bathtub. Fire is not always my friend.
- kpavery, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2yeah, but not 99.9% of all macs
- s6t9eve, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2pretty embarrassing for such an expensive machine
- actorboy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4@ Beyond31
Your initial point was correct, as were the points made by those who followed. Caps and over-exclamation suck and are the sure sign of an immature writer. And as far as your response delta -- yeah, gonna have to block you under the snot-nosed kid clause. - noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3He's telling us the hard truth about all laptops and makng it sound like it is an issue only with the MacBooks.
While having to replace your battery twice is your luck (only replaced mine once due to the recall and I wasn't haing any problems), the battery life is just as it should be. If you USE any brand of laptop at all, it wont make its advertised battery life. The advertised life is usually for having everything turned down to the lowest possible setting and using a baby app. - noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Did you get your battery replaced when the recall came out?
- DigDugDigger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I can confirm your battery time with my Macbook Pro. I had one of the recalled batteries, got a new one, authough this one hasn't warped (yet) the time is still 2.5-3 hours. I'm assuming the 5+ hour capacity is if you use your screen with the brightness @ lowest, with Airport and Bluetooth disabled... which not many end users do. I'm sure you can get 5+ hours out of it *somehow*, just not under normal conditions.
No need to Digg this guy down, he's only telling us the hard truth. oPoTyKaH dugg back to +1. -
