- jackwaters, on 10/10/2007, -0/+37It's about bloody time they updated this....
- KibibyteBrain, on 10/10/2007, -1/+25Two currency units in the same sentence? What, is you room 13 ft x 4 m?
- longofest, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16I think a lot of people who have .Mac are people who get it for the exact reasons you specified: ease of use (integration into iApps) and their email. For all that its lacking, it IS extremely easy to use, and is extremely well integrated to the iApps.
- bradbeattie, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14Best idea I saw on the MacRumors comments was to roll .Mac and iLife into one package. Buy iLife, get one year of .Mac for free.
- EBFoxbat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11I also think the prediction is spot-on. It'll be interested to see what comes of this. There's so much potential, don't drop the ball Apple.
- Shempster, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10I just had to re-up my service for another year, and they charged the same amount as last year... so if they do add services or reduce prices, I hope they make it retroactive a few days... :)
- hyperpasta, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Uh... no... it would mean 1PM EST, 12PM Central, 11AM Mountain, and 10AM PST... right?
- turpenine, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9I would use dotmac if it had some legit features that could even begin to compete with other free webservices.
- indiepenguins, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9I hope its the Google/Apple project thats been speculated for the past few months.
- shawnblanc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7I doubt the price will change. There really should be increased storage - 1GB is pretty archaic. And maybe we'll see iPhone syncing.
- turpenine, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7I think they are upping the size just because of some space time machine can use. 1gb isn't even enough for anything anymore. Back then .Mac was created 1gb was pretty good.
- LeeVal, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9Is there an engadget live update?
- jcrash, on 10/10/2007, -1/+810 AM PST
- FitFinlay, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8I have 4 days until renewal, if nothing comes tomorrow...I'm canceling
- kevinmotel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7stop ruining our speculation!
- FKnight, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Maybe it's just system maintenance.
- fanclerks, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I'd sure like some sort of update to .Mac tomorrow. Give me a reason to buy it Apple, come on... givae me a really good reason.
- adamjbuckland, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6This is a rumor I can belive.. The Jobs God has hinted at .mac upgrades (he did it at D5 if I remember correctly...
- ben000, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5well, good thing they said something is coming. maybe the conference is just for you!
- alexmuller, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5They've been invited, so chances are they'll be doing a live update, and be sure to check http://macrumorslive.com/ in case they have live coverage as well
- MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Better integration with the iApps (as someone else said) would be nice. Because of some side work I do, I needed more storage that the 1gb and so have the 2gb at the higher price. While there are certainly some better deals out there for online storage (who am I kidding, almost everyone has a better deal than this), being able to easily use things like iWeb or iPhoto can make it worth it for those with simpler needs.
I'm curious to what Apple plans to do with iWeb. It certainly has it's downsides (no master pages, graphics are recreated for each page so they tend to be bloated, truly bizarre page names), it is the simplest of the four easy-to-use Mac web page makers I've been testing (Goldfish, RapidWeaver, Sandvox, iWeb), especially with .mac. I wish Apple would untether it so it's advanced features (comments, blogs, podcasts, photo pages couldn't be easier to use) would work without 3rd party software required for some of it. Also having the ability to add html boxes would be nice as well. - trunkster, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I was wondering about this since Leopard has a new syncing icon in the Finder. I can't access it now but whenever I sync my iPhone it spins. I believe the update will be for syncing the iPhone to .Mac for backup which wouldn't be a bad idea...
- colincornaby, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5It's about damn time.
- yeahbuddy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Just make .mac free with the option to purchase additional storage...bam, instant enrollments.
It's just too overpriced in this googleworld. - chrisgeleven, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I definitely hope they either lower the price and/or offer some big time improvements.
For example: there is no reason why you couldn't have .Mac syncing work for things like iTunes (so your media library's on several computers remain in sync). Talk about a killer feature.
And of course, there is the big dream of syncing your iPhone automatically with your .mac account (so stuff like contacts and calendars sync over EDGE/WiFi as you make changes). - kelly, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4GEEZE people... dot mac is MUCH MUCH more than just email
- llsethj, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3iWork to be updated to work with .Mac including spreadsheets app
http://www.9to5mac.com/iwork-update-august-7th-spreadsheets-54235423 - f3l1x, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Think back end service integration. Access media from anywhere to anywhere. expect iPhone integration and some social networking.
- rebotfc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Anyone know what time EST or whatever is the Apple Event scheduled for?
- DonCarcharo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3My .Mac was set to expire on the first of this month (this was after my 15 day grace period) and I kept telling myself that it's foolish to renew the service at such a bloated price point. The problem is I really like .Mac. It keeps my Macs in sync and the email account w/ webmail is probably the best I've seen. Add in the decent Backup and convenient iDisk and I couldn't resist. So yet again I caved in and plopped down my $100.
I'm happy I did this but I still can't help but feel I paid too much. Hopefully tomorrow we'll get some new features that will help justify my purchase. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2A .Mac/iApps and Gmail/Google Apps merger would be interesting.
- joel8x, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I believe that is an iChat feature in 10.5
- Amnesia10, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Actually what about those that only buy iLife intermittently. It might be better to include it free for 5 years with new macs. Personally I would like the storage increased dramatically for the same money. Also why not make it a better deal for family packs or more than a couple of years?
- ben000, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2what does two-way synching entail? I thought that was implicit when using the word synch. Would a copy be considered a one-way synch? ha
- joel8x, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2That would be great - online backup with time machine would be a no brainer.
- whiteyMcBrown, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Amen, brotha
- moisie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1What good would that do them? Google offer their services with advertising and so that people use their search - which has advertising. Offering .Mac free won't make people buy more Macs. I'm not saying it shouldn't be cheaper/offer more but just saying it should be free doesn't make much sense. Maybe Macs themselves should be free?
- sancho320, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Yes, with the key word being free!
P.S. It's too late anyway, Google has already won me over. - dalesmatrix, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Wasn't there going to be a feature released with 10.5 that allows you to access your computer remotely through .mac? I wonder if this update is anything to do with that.
- snowwrestler, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1One-way syncing is a master/copy relationship. Changes in the master migrate to the copy, but changes to the copy stay local. Example: IMAP4.
Two-way syncing is a peer relationship. All changes are migrated in either direction. Example: iSync'ing contacts between a Mac and a cell phone. - kris33, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Well. Would not work great if they don't change Time Machine dramatically. Now it just backup your whole HD, and you can only select files not to backup. Uploading your whole HD would take several days, maybe weeks.
- Samtheman007, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I am thinking possibly Time Machine support may be coming and they are getting ready for leopard. maybe?
- stalefries, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1That's some really good timing you got there.
- NicP, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You must have missed it. Google it!

I doubt that they would and I also doubt that if they did that it would be because of my feedback, but it doesn't hurt to ask. Maybe all apple-loving diggers should do the same. Would it make a difference?
- tracydanger, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Dude, there are so many free solutions for online storage. I know of one place that gives you 25 GB for free (I can't remember where, unfortunately, even though I have an account - I'll have to search back through my past diggs to find it) so 4 separate accounts = 100 GB and then you've got the Gspace plug-in for firefox to make g-mail accounts act as storage space. Pretty simple to use. Then there's box.net, etc.
- beggersfunk, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1About ***** time...
- tracydanger, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Maybe the gmail/google apps option could be free but be easy to sync just like current .mac stuff but then they could offer fee-for-service version that was more feature rich. I'd take the free version. I don't want to change from g-mail.
- opinpi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1$100??...you could have gotten it from Amazon for $79.99.
