- Taciturn, on 12/20/2007, -1/+43Summary: OS X 10.5.1 has some bugs. The programmers are working on an update which has fewer bugs. It might come out in January.
There, now you don't have to read it. - threemagic, on 12/20/2007, -6/+23I've come to the conclusion that those of you, like yourself, that come into apple threads to say the same meaningless drivel are also fanboys...
- fkr3, on 12/20/2007, -1/+14http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/07/12/19/mac_ ...
is the actual link as well.
Engadget are such whores for ad impressions. - kris33, on 12/20/2007, -2/+11Nah, Apple is much faster than Microsoft on bug fixes. However, they are catching up on the amount of bug created.
- Oobitsa, on 12/20/2007, -0/+8I hope they get the Time Machine working with Airport Extreme.
- Marfanity, on 12/20/2007, -3/+11Why was this worth commenting?
- nakile, on 12/20/2007, -3/+11Looking forward to it. I've come across a few glitches, but Leopard has ran great for me so far considering that it's only been out for about two months.
- shinelikeitdoes, on 12/20/2007, -8/+16their quality control can slip for a long time before its as dismal as windows. they actually released a usable new OS. not a beta like vista.
- aaryn, on 12/20/2007, -0/+810.4 compared to 10.5, not that hard to figure it out Alec
- happyseamonster, on 12/20/2007, -2/+9I love it when I see someone saying this isn't worth his time spending time on it.
- Omis, on 12/20/2007, -1/+7I would appreciate it if programs could not cancel my shutdown. Annoying as hell.
- happyseamonster, on 12/20/2007, -3/+9Hundreds of hours tinkering with iTunes? Are you rewriting the code? Get real, drama queen.
- KnightWhoSaysNi, on 12/20/2007, -2/+6In what respect?
On my machine, 10.5 is much faster than 10.4. - nakile, on 12/21/2007, -0/+4Except Vista has been out for almost a year and still has problems...
- inactive, on 12/20/2007, -0/+4Or any network share for that matter...
- kenplaysviola, on 12/20/2007, -2/+6Please Apple, fix my Windows file sharing and SAMBA problem! I can't make the file sharing work in a Windows environment.
- slicecom, on 12/20/2007, -2/+6Huh? 10.5 is much faster than 10.4. I've owned every version since 10.2 and each successive release has been faster than the previous.
- poonaka, on 12/20/2007, -3/+710.5.1 has more than some bugs
- KAMiKAZOW, on 12/20/2007, -0/+3I don't know about the keyboard issue, but the "bluescreen" is the result of incompatible 3rd party hacks ( http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306 ... ).
- diggnationdevon, on 12/21/2007, -0/+3Definitely a lot of bugs. I have a lot of Safari and Mail crashes and sometimes applications hang on me.
- ahawks, on 12/20/2007, -1/+4Bugs included, I am SO glad I waited for Leopard to switch to a Mac. I've tried tiger, and it just wasn't good enough for my taste, sorry.
- abid786, on 12/22/2007, -0/+3Your e-penis must be so long.
- MacParrot, on 12/20/2007, -0/+3So why not just digg to oblivion the idiots who do so instead of wasting time posting the same type of stupid crap in the Apple section? One type of moronic behavior doesn't excuse the other.
Apple is certainly not perfect and you won't find any sane Mac user claiming it. - Vector713, on 12/20/2007, -3/+6Stuff like this makes me glad I'm waiting for the upgrade. :)
Nothing wrong with Tiger, people. - slicecom, on 12/20/2007, -0/+3Uh you do realize that X is the roman numeral for 10 right?
- kenplaysviola, on 12/20/2007, -0/+3I don't have an "ADC" account (what is that?).
It's currently an open case with the highest technician at Apple Care. Fortunately they are working with me in getting it working, but so far no solid answers. I'm hoping this 10.5.2 will be the magic bullet that fixes this. Otherwise, my Mac Leopard OS is working great. This is my first Apple computer. - fugazied, on 12/20/2007, -3/+5Do you have hardware issues? Is your RAM ok? Are you running it on a machine from 1999? Are you running a hacked up version on a dell PC? Because what you are describing sounds NOTHING like the Leopard experience for most people and you sound like a fool.
- nicheplayer, on 12/20/2007, -0/+2Announcements or fixes?
- Gir9000, on 12/20/2007, -0/+2Leopard to me is pretty solid. However there is one issue that I am having that is just annoying. Every time I fast user switch, it turns my dock completely transparent... Hope 10.5.2 fixes it.
- yabos, on 12/21/2007, -0/+2So sign up for a free account and report your bugs. It's not going to get fixed if you complain about it on digg.
- ahawks, on 12/20/2007, -2/+4Yes, because ALL software is perfect upon release. Get real.
And no, I'm not a fanboy. I have 2 desktops running Vista, a macbook pro running 10.5.1, and about 10 years of Linux use under my belt. I can say from experience, nothing is ever released perfect. - schneb, on 12/20/2007, -0/+2I hope they do not ignore Automator 2's horrendous bugs. When Tiger came out, they never fixed the bugs I specified until Leopard two years later.
- stalefries, on 12/20/2007, -3/+4File a bugreport yet? bugreport.apple.com
- smrekar, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1just use applescript and quicksilver instead. heheh jk
- coldfusion1970, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1Its not a Apple problem as it doesnt happen on my two machines. It must be a issue with some 3rd party software he installed.
- 5wallace, on 12/20/2007, -7/+8Obviously Apple is just as capable of putting out a far from bug free OS, like Microsoft, but what really separates the two is that Apple has two big patches released within 4 months, and we have yet to see anything from Microsoft for Vista.
- digitalpencil, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1Will it fix my buggy cursor jumping after sleep?! Stupid 5.1 update... I have to reboot now everytime i want to use my trackerpad!
- DaffyDuck, on 12/23/2007, -0/+1I have no problems with Samba sharing to my Windows desktop. I think you have an operator error going on there. Try posting your problem in the Apple forums.
- ilgaz, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1If syslogd occupies an entire core of my Quad G5 by using 100% CPU, it will be a minor issue for me but on a single CPU, it will be nightmare. BTW, digging down such comments actually fixes the bugs? Let me start too :)
- inactive, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1It's interesting to know it's that large; most probably implying loads of fixes, which is good.
- Catgofire, on 12/21/2007, -1/+2I like Apple, love Mac OS, have Leopard ... this story is lame as hell. Really? Apple is releasing an update to their (still pretty and useable but) buggy OS? I knew that before I came here. And this didn't teach me anything new, except for that putting "Mac OS X" in a title will get a post to the front page.
- diggzoid, on 12/20/2007, -1/+2I'd already posted my issues and got nowhere. There are also loads of people with the same issues and it was posted in that context in the iTunes on a Mac forum. Sometimes you just feel let down OK?
- KAMiKAZOW, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1Is this Mac-specific or does Samba on Linux have the same problem? If Linux doesn't have it, you cant try to install a newer Samba release manually under Mac OS X. Maybe it works.
- nikhil1986, on 12/20/2007, -1/+2I want them to fix spaces. I doubt they will anytime soon though. I hate the auto-window switch.
- DaffyDuck, on 12/23/2007, -0/+1"but for those not drinking the Kool-aid, these are my observations."
Whose observations are they for those of us drinking the Kool-aid? Or are they something else altogether? - mpeters13, on 12/21/2007, -1/+2Hell yea it does. This annoying click issue is so annoying that I might go back to Tiger. I've tried a clean install and no luck. I don't know where it originates, but try this. Open iTunes, play any song or podcast... now try clicking the information button, or the space to the left. The sound clips and clips and clips and skips. In other applications, like garageband or finder, I find that even when I mouse over and click... the eventhandler detects the action, (in some cases) but doesn't actually register the event... So I'm clicking the close button and the buttons depress... but nothing actually happens. In other cases, I click and click and click, but cannot perform the desired action (moving a slider in garageband, clicking a button in iPhoto... even 3rd party apps) until I click off the window (to remove focus), and click back again, making another attempt to perform any requested action.
Leopard's feature set is nice... but this issue is making it a very difficult thing to appreciate them...
(Issue occurs with trackpad, bluetooth, and usb mice.) - HarleyQuinn, on 12/24/2007, -0/+1I was an early Leopard adopter on 2 of my Mac's. I have since reverted both machines back to Tiger.
Leopard (current state) is fine/fantastic if you do not need interoperability and network-ability in a mixed environment. Too many issues otherwise. Don't get me started with Parallels (5160) and Leopard 10.5.0...
#1 reason I reverted back to Tiger on my Mac Mini HTPC was the new Front Row broke my ability to play music and jump over to my photos and show photos with the current music playing. (This was possible in old Front Row with a .plist change to shut off the "auto music" slide show). Not to mention music STOPS playing if you want to fall back to the desktop to check email. Simply DUMPING Apple TV to Front Row is weak.
By the way HUGE bug in iTunes 7.5. If you have "CD Error Correction" enabled under the CD Importing Tab, you will most likely experience CD Playback issues. It will play 2 tracks off the CD and then Beach ball of death, no more music.
Apple, PLEASE SLOW DOWN and focus on quality, compatibility, and NOT taking away "features" that used to exist (iMovie, FrontRow...) - juntogr, on 12/24/2007, -0/+1Hi,
I had the same problem until i disabled the airport extreme app from autoloading at startup. This happened whenever i was going from home to work and changing wireless network.
Hope this helps. Let me know.
Cheers,
j- - digitalpencil, on 12/24/2007, -0/+1Yeh, thanks! Hopefully they'll fix this in 5.2 :)
