Mac Heist users feeling ripped off?
macheist.com — After purchasing the Mac Heist bundle less than 20 days ago Yazsoft have just released Speed Download version 5, however they say that "Unfortunately, promo purchases do not qualify for free upgrades". Mac Heist promised that "You'll get the same upgrade path as you would through buying directly from the developer right now" What's gone wrong?

- maxtor555, on 02/12/2008, -0/+8This will really bite them (Yazsoft) in the ass. 10,000 unhappy customer's can't be good for any company. They are now trying to weasel out of the statement by posting o the Macheist boards.
http://www.macheist.com/forums/viewtopic.php?pid=1 ...- mjweber, on 02/15/2008, -1/+1Yazsoft are weasels, no doubt about it. But the whining and bashing on Macheist's forum is a disgrace. Macheist bears sole responsibility for that. Macheist was responsible to make ironclad contracts with the developers BEFORE running a multimillion dollar promotion. Macheist is responsible for enforcing those contracts if broken. And Macheist is responsible for incubating this bellyaching bashfest of a forum. DoS attacks? C'mon, folks! I didn't think it could get any worse than the beggars colony Macheist spawned during the referral fiasco but this thread is a new low.
As much as I loved the heists the Directorate's cavalier air of deniability makes me cringe. The bottom line is Macheist should have an enforceable contract with Yazsoft. If they don't, Macheist blew it! They should at least be gracious enough to admit that and apologize. - dmdzine, on 03/07/2008, -0/+0I believe it was actually somewhere north of 40,000 customers

- indyhouse, on 02/12/2008, -6/+1For the record, a handful of MacHeist users are upset that they aren't getting a paid UPGRADE (not update) for free. Each MacHeist developer was allowed to set their own UPGRADE terms for the licenses they sold in the update. No developer was REQUIRED to give free UPGRADES of their software to anyone... yes, its upsetting, but the developer is within their rights.
- kinard, on 02/12/2008, -0/+7The MacHeist director specifically stated that "You'll get the same upgrade path as you would through buying directly from the developer right now". - http://www.macheist.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=72 ...
If that statement is TRUE then this statement on the yazsoft web site "If you purchased SD 4 between Jan 01, 2008 and Feb 12, 2008, you may upgrade to SD 5 for FREE" should also be true. - http://www.yazsoft.com/content/buy.html

- OS2Guy, on 02/12/2008, -2/+2I was a MacHeist customer but after paying for products with their special serial numbers then trying to upgrade that product, I found myself having to buy the same product all over again at a much higher cost. I won't do it again and will never buy from MacHeist again. I don't recommend the site or the sales to other buyers either.
- starlinkuk, on 02/12/2008, -1/+3Its not really MacHeist's fault that some of the Developers are a pain in the ass.
I have never got on with YazSoft

- stevebeyer, on 02/12/2008, -2/+0This is one of the reason that developers are willing to add their products to MacHeist. It probably would have been a good idea to have a special upgrade price but these guys have to make money to stay in business. I find that I try software I would never have tried and it is a fair deal in the long run. I believe that you can still get the upgrade price just not free. Is this really that unfair?
- maxtor555, on 02/12/2008, -0/+3Yazsoft have now specifically added the policy about NOT supporting MacHeist users to their website!
Purchases made via the MacHeist 2 bundle not applicable for free upgrade
http://www.yazsoft.com/content/buy.html
If it wasn't a "bait and switch" scam before, it definitely is now. - kryptonson, on 02/12/2008, -0/+6I think it should be stated, this was not a MacHeist scam, this was a Yazsoft scam.
- automachete, on 02/12/2008, -0/+4It appears that John Casasanta, the MacHeist director, is on the case; he wants to remedy the situation with purchasers as soon as possible. It appears he's rather pissed off about it, too: Yazsoft's agreement WAS IN FACT that the licenses that MacHeist users purchased were identical to real licenses in every way; as if they were purchased outside of MacHeist during the sale. http://tinyurl.com/2eocy6
- rampancy, on 02/13/2008, -0/+2Buried. It's Yazsoft's fault, not MacHeist's.
- lindmar, on 02/13/2008, -0/+3I am not a mac heist buyer but I updated today as usual - the automatic update...
I thought, OK fine.. go ahead...
Then I try to download and I'm told I have to pay to upgrade.
What b.s. I wouldnt have upgraded, I'd rather downgrade back to my paid version 4. - maxtor555, on 02/13/2008, -0/+0Let's make it very clear - Macheist is not at fault in this issue. The post from John Cassanta confirms that MacHeist were also mislead by Yazsoft's lies.
- jbrougher, on 02/13/2008, -0/+0Not to be overly legal here, but it is MacHeist's fault as well, at least partially, unless there's a signed contract by Yazsoft that verifies what JC is saying. Even if there is a signed contract, there's no doubt that it's MacHeist's responsibility to honor their promise to us--those of us who bought the bundle are MacHeist customers, not Yazsoft customers. This just seems like Malcor all over again. Thanks a billion, Macheist!
- dteare, on 02/13/2008, -0/+1Dugg as interesting, but this is NOT MacHeist's fault.
- Zamyatin, on 02/14/2008, -0/+2Agreed. Not MacHeist's fault, just another shady company. What's strange to me is that I find this trend of shady dealings and shady companies in the "speed downloader" application space... Anyone remember that company Gator (not to be confused with newsGator)? What's up with that?
Anyway, claims of "speedier downloads" in my experience are super questionable. The only use I found for this proggie was to distribute my downloads to various folders, which is something I could do with applescript anyway. Whoopdedoo.
Within 3 hours of annoyance when the whole program had to load just to d/l a few files, the app got Zapped. - decil, on 02/14/2008, -0/+0I'm sure, that this is not a MacHeist fault, but completely YazSoft idiotic decision. I feel myself robbed.
Don't use Speed Download! Use DownloadQueue or iGetter instead. - icykerker, on 02/18/2008, -0/+0MacHeist might not know YazSoft will do this, but i think MacHeist should do something or say something for us. Otherwise i won't trust and buy any product from them.
