No, it's the right amount. At least that is what it says on the site. They raised $100,000. - r3neGaDe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13How is it a scam?
I will admit that having the free apps not upgradable is kind of a bummer but hell... they were free. Beggars can't be choosers.
As far as the bundle goes, it's far from a scam. I was going to get my dad Delicious Library for Christmas anyway. It's $40 all by itself. If you actually participated in all of the heists (which were fun as hell and actually really well done) you get a $10 discount with put the whole bundle (which included DL) at the same $40. With the added option of gifting any licenses you already owned to friends/family/anyone, it was really a win/win/win situation. - ramsinks.com, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10http://axonnsd.org/WebData/FlashFun/flash/thankyou.swf
lol - amfr, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Props to phill and the team, its great that they are dnating so much to charity
- skell, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9$50,000 raised in the last 36 hours alone. Incredible!
I'm glad to have taken part in the festivities. =) - danmanx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9This is amazing news!!!!!! If only all of us could donate that much to charity. It really does make you feel good inside!
- WZot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@diggmeup: Funny... Thats exactly the same that I would say about M$ fanboys. But while most Mac folks actually have experience with other platforms, including Windows, most M$ fanboys have never ever tried a Mac; or atleast not long enough to make up a just opinion about it.
- IntellEJent, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Woot! Thanks everyone for getting the bundle! I'm sure the earlier releasing of textmate helped a lot.
- Biiaru, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7YES! I knew we could do it! I knew it! Woohoo!!

Iggy :) - gaucho4, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4$100,000 and climbing!
- WZot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Enough for them to willingly participate. Or else they wouldnt, would they?
- fastfood15, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Simply amazing. Its great to know that there are awesomely fun and innovative sites out there that also have a humanitarian flavor.
- r3neGaDe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Ok... I know that double posting sucks but I was editing my comment when it just kind of auto-submitted it without letting me finish what I was typing.
Anyway - to respond without criticizing, Macheist was, to me anyway, an online community based game that had free Mac apps and discounts off of the final software bundle as prizes.
Each week (roughly), over 6 weeks the community was given a mission to complete. At the end of each mission each user was give a code that unlocked a few of the free apps (there were 17 in total) and a $2 discount on the final bundle. An example of one of these missions is as follows:
The community was given a briefing that talked about a Mac software cracker who had recently left the cracking community. Before he left however, he cracked two apps but never released the cracks. It was our job to find the cracks (they were actually the prizes for the heist). To do this we had to decode a message the cracker sent to the cracking community and follow the link in the message to his website. After we got to his website we had to figure out how to get into his personal gallery. In this gallery was a picture with number on it, but it made no sense until you did something with that picture. It just so happened that the dude was into origami and had a video linked from his homepage that showed you how to make an origami balloon. If you folded the picture into a balloon, the 4 numbers in the code (used to unlock the free apps) were revealed on 4 of the balloons sides.
Cool concept, well thought out and fun to figure out in a community setting.
As long as all of that was free... I don't see how it's a scam. And as I explained in the bundle in my other post... that's not really a scam either. - 3Den, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Not sure what you mean about TextMate
Even if you go buy TextMate for full price now, it's not upgradeable past version 2.0
Texmate is on 1.5.4 right now, and very stable and feature rich. - TaylorAB, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Here is some more stuff about MacHeist - http://digg.com/apple/Gruber_Isn_t_Always_Right
- synerage, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Awesome! I'm glad to have contributed to this. =D
- weneedsound, on 10/12/2007, -9/+11"A milestone in history." is a bit much.
- unloud, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I wonder if it could hit 200,000. . . .
- dnite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3anyone know if anything happens if you let the 'critters' actually get to 1,000,000 thank you's ?? x=) I'm only at 2,200 .. could be a while x=)
- ryanedwards, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I don't see the problem here...TextMate alone is worth the same amount as the entire bundle! I bought it because I wanted NewsFire, Disco, DEVONThink and hopefully TextMate plus I got a handful of other great apps I probably never would have bought but are nice to have.
All that for only a few bucks more than TextMate straight up. Can't beat that in my books. - rauz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3So, some basic math says they've unloaded more than 8.000 units of the bundle in just a couple of days...not too bad for shareware. Not bad at all.

- MacNTT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I bought my bundle last night. Thank you MacHeist and thank you to the developers.
- TwisterMc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just gave in and bought the deal. So their amount is still going up. :)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3"DIGG NOW!!"
the site isn't down, but if it was and i couldn't see the content then i wouldn't digg it, period
diggs have become too cheap, with everyone digging everything that mentions X buzzword - wjanoch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I got past 1,000 and clicked the enough link, but it just say something like "Noooo Way!, we're not even close" a couple dozen times and then continues where it left off.
- metaquark, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Textmate 2.0 will be a free upgrade for owners of a regular Textmate 1.x license (but not for owners of a cheapo-Macheist license, that would be pretty stupid).
http://macromates.com/blog/archives/2006/11/09/20-will-require-leopard/ - TylerJensen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It blows me away - how an amazing idea like this - coupled with amazing developers - can encourage such a turnout. I hope the funds allow people to effect a progressive positive change in our world. Thank you, and all those who are in a position to help.
c. - devindotcom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Wow, I am retarded... I definitely triple checked and saw six zeroes every time. Sorry.

-=|Mgkwho - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -12/+3Can I ask what this is about? And what is MacHeist? Thanks.
- benlmusic, on 10/12/2007, -15/+5how much do the developers get?
- baxtermaddux, on 10/12/2007, -12/+1i dunno know either. guess im not cool like that. and the webpage dont help much. bury me
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -15/+1I totally agree macfanboys are the worst, its like their head is stuck in sand or somecrap.
- mgkwho, on 10/12/2007, -20/+3What does this have to do with Apple? Besides the "Mac", it's really about software.
-=|Mgkwho - greymarketbrain, on 10/12/2007, -19/+1it's about a bunch of fanboys masturbating in front of a glossy "web 2.0" site that's a more of scam than anything else.
if you want to feel good about donating to a charity just do it for *****'s sake, you don't need to get a lil prize to make you feel good....
and watch as they digg me down cuz I hurt their feelings - devindotcom, on 10/12/2007, -37/+3Poster, my friend, you have an extra zero there. I understand you want to get this to the front page, but still...
Good news whatever the sum, anyway.
