- Rageous, on 12/07/2007, -3/+18***** Macheist. Are we going to go through all this again like last year, digging every single ***** development? Phil Ryu and John Casasanta made off like bandits last year, by exploiting the ***** out of indie developers. Stop giving them attention and money, and buy the programs from the actual developers themselves.
- secretmode, on 12/07/2007, -1/+14greedy people. Look at http://mydreamapp.com/ they got all the publicity. Where's my dream app? In my dreams?
- damacster, on 12/07/2007, -2/+10These MacHeist ***** are at it again. It's like they sat down and said: "How can we screw people out of money? I mean, really screw them. I know, we'll exploit talented mac developers by taking all the hard work they've put into their applications and selling it for peanuts, all the while keeping most of the profits". If you're reading this, stop supporting these NO TALENT ASS CLOWNS.
- MacParrot, on 12/07/2007, -3/+11Supporting independent Mac developers is a worthy cause, but after the Malcor nonsense I would agree. These guys really pulled a stupid stunt.
- holdencaulfield, on 12/07/2007, -5/+12ooooooo that malcore is so baddass.
don't think so, douchebags. - sfacets, on 12/07/2007, -1/+8Time for the next scam! Woohoo!
- mizike, on 12/07/2007, -0/+6yeah, I mean, obviously the developers can contract for whatever they want and no one forced them into it, it's just a bit disingenuous for the macheist team to be taking somewhere north of 70% of all profits and then claiming to be running the contest as a service to the mac development community....
it's still a good deal for the consumer; just thought that some would like to know to whom their money was going.... - CloseTheSafe, on 12/07/2007, -1/+7Japanese poetry meets consumer feedback at

Enjoy a few haikus and links to sites covering the Malcor hoax and questions about MacHeist's strange relationship with developers and customers. - Landonr, on 06/30/2008, -1/+5Its almost impossible to follow whats going on, we just broke to 300 people in the irc.
- MacParrot, on 12/07/2007, -2/+6Do you work for free? If not, STFU

- bustergonad, on 12/07/2007, -0/+1Oh no! I'm not falling for that again,..
I suggest caution from now on whenever a link on the internets is advertised as
"2 of something, 1 of something else!!" - Jublins, on 12/07/2007, -4/+5you solve puzzles to earn free licenses to shareware mac apps which you would normally have to pay for. At the end, I believe you can choose to buy a bundle of shareware apps for a greatly reduced price. I think I read last year that if you did all the puzzles you could purchase a bundle of 9 mac apps for about $39. If you were to buy all of those licenses separately, it was going to cost over $300.
- johnred, on 12/07/2007, -2/+3You need to be logged-into MacHeist first.
- mizike, on 12/07/2007, -12/+13proceed with caution; here's a link to an excellent writeup about last year's macheist, which details how the structure of the contest funnels almost all the profits away from the developers, and instead to the organizers... (short form: dev's are paid a low flat fee, organizers aren't....)

and here's a follow-up post with some hard numbers...

- MacParrot, on 12/07/2007, -2/+3Free grammar and spelling lessons?
- ilgaz, on 12/12/2007, -0/+1I heard it is "single version license ships"
As Mac people aren't enterprise/mainframe customers, an "update" means a lot to them. What about the potential flaming and loss of image when developer dares to ask upgrade price? Remember, versiontracker.com could live and still lives on Mac land by checking updates to entire OS/apps and getting $50/year for it. Also remember Apple is not maintaining a mainframe OS and things can get very ugly for compatibility when 10.5.5, 10.5.6 ships. User may end up having non functioning/launching software unless he/she pays. Guess who will get the blame? Mac Heist? :) - ScottoGato, on 12/07/2007, -8/+9So far, the "loot" for completing the first mission:
http://mhstatic.com/freebies/Overflow_2.5.4.zip ($14.95)
http://mhstatic.com/freebies/Santa's_Gizmo.zip ($15.00)
http://mhstatic.com/freebies/BitClamp.dmg ($20.00)
http://mhstatic.com/freebies/MacHeistChat.zip (Free)
http://mhstatic.com/freebies/HeistAgent.zip (Free)
A grand total of $49.95 in your "Loot", which I guess is supposed to be spent on these items. - MonkeyFarts, on 12/08/2007, -0/+1Let's see if Digg has fixed the comment system for Safari.

- TheDarkTrumpet, on 12/07/2007, -3/+3I think the only real thing that MacHeist helps with, when it comes to independent developers is to get their app "out in the open". Granted, they aren't making a lot of money, but I think some of the developers took this to the right way. Basically they said that the version they are giving is their only version, so no upgrade reduction, and their support was cut a bit. I think that's fair, to be honest, for everyone really.
- jtbandes, on 12/07/2007, -3/+3It's back up.
- slimmonkey, on 12/07/2007, -1/+1How many developers were held at gun point and said they have to sell their software cheap on Macheist??
- dackerman, on 12/09/2007, -1/+11462?
- enzomedici, on 12/11/2007, -3/+3DO NOT SUPPORT THESE MOTHER *****. They ***** over the developers last year. Any developer who signs up for this ***** is an idiot.
- Me1000, on 12/07/2007, -3/+2enter it, once it starts to say FAIL, reload the page...

enough said without giving too much away. - theAaron, on 12/07/2007, -3/+1@DarkTrumpet
Would you mind sharing how you got the code? I - MrViklund, on 12/07/2007, -5/+2Can someone point me to where I can read more about this, what it's all about and what people are supposed to do, and maybe a little bit of history.
- slimmonkey, on 12/07/2007, -6/+3Enough already about the "Developers are getting screwed" theory. Listen to yourself. Think. If a developer was really getting screwed, why would they agree to do Macheist?? Its not like someone put a gun to their head and made them do it. The more people that get their software, the more publicity they will get.

Be logged in, go there and you get your loot! - TridenTBoy, on 12/07/2007, -8/+5So, what the ***** is this again?
- z0mbie2099, on 12/07/2007, -5/+2That girl in the video is really cute.
- TheDarkTrumpet, on 12/07/2007, -5/+1The only thing I disagree with on this is there's a lot of apps from Macheist 1 that I actually never even would have known about if it wasn't for MacHeist. Furthermore, I had licenses already for all the apps I found interesting - that being mainly DevonThink (I have 2 personal licenses now, and one professional license), and TextMate. I purcahsed the bundle to check out the other apps at a reasonable cost. I didn't really stick with any of the others unfortunately, but meh.
