- astav, on 11/28/2007, -1/+34also a problem with my 15" mbp
- TimmyGUNZ, on 11/28/2007, -1/+25I had this problem ever since the 10.5.1 update on my 13" MacBook. The WiFi will just start going off...then on...off...then on. It's really quite annoying. The only fix I can find is unplugging the router and plugging it back in. It seems to stop the problem for a day or 2. It's definitely not a problem with the router because every other wireless device works perfectly. Hopefully this will be fixed soon.
- gabe37, on 11/28/2007, -4/+24This is VERY annoying. WTF Apple?
- gaiatheory, on 11/28/2007, -0/+19Definitely Apple's problem, and they need to fix it. I am really tired of having my connection drop out. I've got a 13" mb Core Duo and I have had this problem since the summer.
- inactive, on 11/28/2007, -6/+20As a non Mac fan (I've tried them, not all that impressed), I find this kind of funny only in that there are too many Mac users who think Macs are just ***** perfect and never have any problems.
Linux has issues. Windows has issues. And Macs have issues. The only thing is Linux and Window users know it (Linux users seem to have a knack for fixing the issues themselves), where as Mac users live in Candy Land thinking everything is just wonderful. I'm sure it will be patched quickly, but in the mean time, just please remember it is only a computer... porn looks just as good on my XP computer as it does on your Mac.... but it cost me a lot less. - DivineDart, on 11/28/2007, -3/+16This is may be one bug but it's a serious bug
- batmant, on 11/28/2007, -1/+1313" Black MB Core Duo (not Core 2) and get this all the time. It will show connected at full signal and I can't ping my router! I've found sometimes just clicking the Wifi icon and letting it list the networks will slap it into working and the pings will start going through. From there, I have about 2 minutes to browse before the connect dies again.
- schoate09, on 11/28/2007, -6/+18Wireless issues
Case Cracking
Overheating graphics card
Defective capacitors
Defective batteries
Leopard upgrade issues
"It just works" - promovi, on 11/28/2007, -8/+1915" mpb also (recent mac convert). I'm getting real sick of the apple hype.
- discofreak, on 11/28/2007, -1/+11i've got a 15" gen2 mbp, and ALL of my Internet activity will freeze, and as soon as i click the AirPort icon, the system kernel panics and i have to reboot. happens twice a day on a good day, and enough to make me go use my Windows machine on others.
***** this *****. i'm running 10.5.1
i never had problems like this on ANY of my Windows machines. - cowcowmoomoo1, on 11/28/2007, -8/+17I'm typing this from a 13-inch MacBook running Leopard, up to date on updates, and disconnected from the power cord, and it seems to be fine for me and my wireless
- DivineDart, on 11/28/2007, -0/+9Dont give apple excuses they dropped the ball on this one. Ever since I installed the patch the internet has been ***** dying and comming back it's annoying because I end up having to stay disconnected for 10 minutes from my AIM with Adium it's ***** annoying as *****.
- inactive, on 11/28/2007, -7/+15It's a feature that makes you spend more time being productive than spending time browsing the web.
- Identity4, on 11/28/2007, -1/+9Epic fail :( I'll add that to my list of genius bar gripes along with cracked plastics and defective HD...
- theblueprint, on 11/28/2007, -0/+7Seconded. I've been getting kernel panics attributed to the AirPort driver.
- JamesMorris, on 11/28/2007, -17/+24"Mac it just works" Yeah your slogan seems a little bit silly now doesn't it Steve..
- sonstone, on 11/28/2007, -6/+13Yeah, apparently. My wife has a relatively new mabook and I can't help but get a little chuckle inside when I see how much faster I can browse the web with my windows machine. Although, that chuckling stops when she takes over my windows machine after getting overly frustrated at the dropped connections and timeouts.
- DivineDart, on 11/28/2007, -1/+8Well for me it randomly disconnects also with it plugged in
- Nauthez, on 11/28/2007, -0/+7Ha, I opened the article, my wireless connection dropped, and i got a kernel panic.
- JFallon126, on 11/28/2007, -1/+6Ok good...I thought I was the only one...hopefully they fix this soon. My problem has gotten better but it was annoying as hell while I was home over break.
- Caps, on 11/28/2007, -5/+10Well there mustn't be a problem since it's working okay for you...
/sarcasm - radioraheem, on 11/28/2007, -5/+10*knock on wood* I haven't had this problem at all, and my 13" macbook continues to "just work".
Haters can stop jumping on the apple-bashing bandwagon now. - Electric_Sheep, on 11/28/2007, -1/+6I'm exactly the same. I've been using a G4 iBook for 2 years now and i borrowed a friends Macbook Pro to test before i bought my own, and the wireless of the MBP was insufferable. Can't believe something released in 2005 has better reliability than a pro machine released in 2007.
- Skitzzo, on 11/28/2007, -1/+6Finally! I thought I was going nuts. I've been having this issue with my 13in as well as one of the older 12in. I never made the connection that it mattered whether I was plugged in or not but looking back I'm pretty sure that's when I see it happening.
Apple better get on this one pretty quickly. It's annoying all hell. - Sentinel, on 11/28/2007, -1/+5I'm having exactly the same problem. It's really frustrating
- acid0426, on 11/28/2007, -13/+17So is this one of the advantages of using a Mac? I'm sick of Mac obsessors telling me how they never have problems and implying I can never boot up my laptop or do anything with it because I use Windows.
- Skitzzo, on 11/28/2007, -1/+5Yeah, I've noticed clicking on the wifi icon usually brings it back for me but it's still obnoxious.
- evildorko, on 11/28/2007, -0/+4dude same here.
- mr.gates, on 11/28/2007, -2/+6Ever since I updated to Leopard I've been experiencing extremely slow spots in me wireless connection on my MB regardless of if I'm running on AC or Battery. Other laptops in my house do fine. Anyone else have this problem?
- mrsteve007, on 11/28/2007, -1/+5My co-worker has been having the same problem with his 13 macbook for a couple days now. At first he thought there was something wrong with the pair of routers we have in the building, but alas, here's his answer. This and word that he has one of the faulty seagate drives all in the same day. Maybe Apple should change their slogan to 'It just works*'
*except for products that involve 3rd party vendors, and OS updates - sonstone, on 11/28/2007, -1/+5This is not a troll. My wife's macbook has the same problem. She has basically reverted to not using wireless because of the dropped connections and poor performance.
- Kittyflipping, on 11/28/2007, -0/+3I've been getting this as well on my 15"MBP (not the kernel panic). I thought it was caused by putting the laptop to sleep but it may be from being on battery power, since it's only happened to me on battery power. A reboot usually fixes it, but it's very annoying.
- TGMD, on 11/29/2007, -2/+5Yep!
Why am I being Dugg Down!? Leopard is just as bad as Vista! - JamesMorris, on 11/28/2007, -2/+5Haven't you heard, programming updates for 5 different pc specs all with the SAME HARDWARE in them is too hard for apple. They just rely on mac users being too busy jacking off to pictures of Jobs and high fiving each other outside the apple stores to notice the faults.
- pyrophite, on 11/28/2007, -0/+3This also seems to happen when switching between some wireless access points. I will get an IP via DHCP , but the net wont work after switching to a local AP. After installing leopard is when I noticed the bug on my MBP 15. Dropping occurs when I'm at coffee shops and I'm FORCED to use windows via boot camp or suffer a dropped connection every half hour. This is ridiculous!!
- cynicist, on 11/29/2007, -1/+4People react like this to Microsoft's mistakes all the time, and Apple's Macs generally don't have these types of problems. So why shouldn't people be angry? If I had this issue with Gentoo, I'd be pissed too.
- freaklegion, on 11/29/2007, -0/+3I have seen tons of fanboys attempting to excuse Apple's screwups but blaming an entire telco for this issue is definitely new. I'm sure if all users were experiencing packet loss across the board as you're suggesting, we'd be hearing a lot more about it.
Are you so arrogant that you actually think that EVERYONE who owns a Mac lives in the United States and is on Comcast? Please understand that Apple is a company made up with real people who make actual mistakes instead of this fairy tale entity that can do no wrong that you envision them to be. They've made a pretty brutal error and the onus is on them to get it fixed pronto. - shauncullen, on 11/29/2007, -0/+3I'm solely using windows xp on my macbook now. After using both OS X and Windows, I can say that Windows Xp performance is noticeably better. Every time my girlfriend would use my computer she would complain how slow it is compared to her dell(with a lot crappier specs) running xp, I would constantly tell her she's crazy. But, after installing xp through boot camp, I can honestly say I must have just gotten use to the sluggishness of running tiger, even after a fresh install, the constant hang ups and spinning beach balls. After using Windows again, I forgot how fast my little macbook could run. I've gotten over the lack of eye candy and slickness I'm missing in XP. Really, XP Service Pack 2 has done away with most of the old stand bys for Windows hate. I've used Ubuntu, Tiger, and Vista, one things for sure: I'm not going back to OS X.
- kermit4karate, on 11/29/2007, -0/+3Same here, happens while plugged in. Running Tiger on a 13" Core Duo 2 macbook 2GHz. Problem started about a month ago. No other hardware/software changes in that time. Only sure fix is to unplug/replug my Netgear 802.11g router, and even that only lasts temporarily. All other wifi devices (PSP, Tivo, an iMac) continue to work while the macbook doesn't, so I figure it isn't a problem with the Netgear.
- endora123, on 11/29/2007, -0/+315" MBP here with both kernel panics and wireless issues. WTF.
- xtremesniper, on 11/28/2007, -1/+4Ever since I got my Macbook (core duo) in 2006 I've been having a slow motion battle with Apple about wi-fi connectivity on it. Every update that comes out, I seemingly have to wait for weeks while checking sites like macfixit just to make sure all is well before I update for fear that I'll lose my wireless stability. It's happened too many times, and I have completely lost trust in Apple's ability to provide an update without screwing something up in the process. (Hence why I only recently upgraded to 10.4.11, and not even 10.5).
I experience this issue but it's not that bad. It only happens when on battery because it seems to turn off the wireless card (without letting the OS actually know that it did) when I go idle. Thankfully when I'm on battery I don't go idle very often so it's kinda rare. I still hope they fix this issue (again). - JamesMorris, on 11/28/2007, -11/+14Apple only has to roll out updates for specific hardware and they can't even manage that. Yet microsoft's updates don't muck up the gazillion varients of wireless cards and hardware used in windows laptops and pc's. In summary apple can't code for *****. But don't worry it just works remember...
- inactive, on 11/29/2007, -1/+3Don't give up on OSX!
- DivineDart, on 11/29/2007, -0/+2More than likely that is a part of the problem but this happened directly AFTER updating and most of these people can probably agree with me.
- smoger, on 11/29/2007, -0/+2i actually went to the apple store and they said they couldn't do anything for me because radioraheem's computer was working fine
- posure, on 11/29/2007, -0/+2The wireless in my MBP has been running terribly since I bought the system (I think OS X was at 10.4.8 or 10.4.9 back then), poor WiFi performance in a Mac is no surprise for me.
- discofreak, on 11/28/2007, -9/+11***** Apple. i recently switched, loved it, and was falling into the Apple hype. but now i've realized it's all ***** and i'm getting SO PISSED OFF at how NOTHING works with Leopard. not any of my Adobe Suite programs, not any of my BitTorrent apps, not the Internet - damn. i NEVER had problems with Windows. ever. seriously.
- Valkyrie, on 11/29/2007, -0/+215" MBP - Network disappears just for the Mac (about twice a day). I have to reboot to get it back.
- krische, on 11/28/2007, -1/+3Hmm, I wonder how widespread of a problem this is. Both mine, and my friend's 13in macbook don't have this problem. Both running Tiger as well.
- coyotejones, on 11/29/2007, -0/+2If you had this problem with Gentoo, I'd be far less sympathetic, actually. I was a Gentoo user for a few years, but eventually I realized that the number of headaches wasn't worth the customizability of the distro (I moved to Ubuntu for my Linux needs, and suddenly everything is much more pleasant).
