MacBook Pros running dry in the channel ahead of refreshes
appleinsider.com — Inventory of MacBook Pros has become severely constrained over the past three weeks, with some reseller now reflecting backorder status on the soon-to-be refreshed Apple professional notebooks. Apple retail partner and online reseller Best Buy has recently run out of 15-inch models, and lists on its online store wait times of one to two weeks...

- ajkdajkd, on 02/16/2008, -2/+13Amazon has a rebate on current MacBook Pro models where purchases have to be made by Monday February 18. Perhaps this means new MBP's are coming on Tuesday February 19.
http://switchtoamac.com/site/new-macbook-pro-model ...- zman1117, on 02/16/2008, -1/+3No necessarily. Amazon always has rebates on Macbook Pros that last a month or so. When that one expires, they just put a new one up. But it is interesting to note that its from 1/29 - 2/18 instead of 1/29 - 2/29.
- antoniojvr, on 02/17/2008, -0/+1I think it's because you are wrong.
- zman1117, on 02/16/2008, -1/+3No necessarily. Amazon always has rebates on Macbook Pros that last a month or so. When that one expires, they just put a new one up. But it is interesting to note that its from 1/29 - 2/18 instead of 1/29 - 2/29.
- ReBeLaCe, on 02/16/2008, -3/+15All i know is all channels are dry. We sold out of all laptop models (cept the air) and we can't order anymore.
- blorc, on 02/16/2008, -0/+2My store hasn't run out, although none are currently on order admittedly. I guess we'll see. I just got a couple on a truck yesterday, though.
- UNEXPLODEDduck, on 02/16/2008, -23/+4I hope they scale up the air and add a dvd drive + some more ports. That would be a nice laptop
- jferrari, on 02/16/2008, -4/+10what you mean like a macbook?
- UNEXPLODEDduck, on 02/16/2008, -10/+2If you haven't noticed the macbook has the same screen size as the air... not much of a scale up.
- zman1117, on 02/16/2008, -3/+10So then, you mean a macbook pro?
- UNEXPLODEDduck, on 02/16/2008, -10/+1yes because the macbook pro has the same design as the air, duuuh
- Nin10dude, on 02/16/2008, -0/+3So, to put it simply, you just want the power and screen size of a MacBook Pro in the thinness of a MacBook Air?
...Don't you think there's a reason why the MacBook Air is as weak as it is?
- UNEXPLODEDduck, on 02/16/2008, -10/+2If you haven't noticed the macbook has the same screen size as the air... not much of a scale up.
- AvidPreatorian, on 02/16/2008, -1/+3that would be a macbook pro, air is an addition to a desktop or a home computer. it's not really meant to be a stand along machine.
- UNEXPLODEDduck, on 02/16/2008, -1/+1Yes that's my point.... I would like to see the new macbook pro with the same styling and details as the air, for example the rounded base
- tim04, on 02/17/2008, -0/+1it doesn't seem to be priced that way
- jferrari, on 02/16/2008, -4/+10what you mean like a macbook?
- atdakore, on 02/16/2008, -2/+9Apple Store still says 24hrs shipping on all macbook pros, and that hardly ever lies.
- consonance, on 02/16/2008, -2/+54Everyone is interpreting the signs wrong. Obviously Apple is going out of business. Everyone should have seen it coming. Didn't you read their last quarterly report, people!?!?! /sarcasm
- bjornski, on 02/16/2008, -4/+3Nah, they're just phasing out the "old tech", and discontinuing support on their "legacy" products.
Steve wants everyone to upgrade to MBAs. And all the add-ons that you'll need to go with it.
/joking, about as serious as the poster above me.
//had to put a disclaimer, Mac users have no sense of humor.- bjornski, on 02/16/2008, -1/+2Hehehe, dugg down.
Sense of humor observation proven.- unloud, on 02/16/2008, -4/+1Get a sense of humor and maybe we'll give a *****.
- bjornski, on 02/17/2008, -1/+3Awwww, turtleneck a bit too tight today?

- Rev0lver, on 02/16/2008, -0/+5Nice. I'm glad I got my Pro back in June of 07 - I was worried the refresh was going to come a lot sooner, thereby screwing me over. It's bad enough Leopard got delayed at around the same time.
- TheIguana, on 02/16/2008, -0/+7About bloody time, Penryn has been out for how long?
- neckaros, on 02/16/2008, -0/+10Penryn for long. But laptops with penryn in them, not that much
- PabloMac, on 02/16/2008, -2/+1Are the stars finally aligning in my favor!? I actually may have a couple grand extra in a month or so...
- foxter, on 02/16/2008, -0/+1Can you adopt me, sir? I never have extra money laying around... ;(
- MacParrot, on 02/16/2008, -0/+1Looking forward to it. New models means the refurbs all jump up a bit in performance and get lower in price.
- amjustice, on 02/16/2008, -0/+4AMEN! I got a bunch of Apple Gift cards for Christmas and have been waiting ever since to get a new Macbook Pro. Hopefully they will announce new ones at the rumored iPhone SDK event on the 26th!
- FoxOrian, on 02/16/2008, -0/+13I'm glad I got my Santa Rosa MBP back in the summer of '07
I've had it long enough to not feel bad about the coming refresh. New chips and speeds are always good, but I'm also skeptical because I'm afraid of a possible makeover to look more like the MacBook Air. --- I like the way the MacBook Pro currently looks through and through. [No to black keys!]
I have the LED backlight on mine now, so I'm pretty well set for a long, long time.- avions, on 02/16/2008, -0/+2I hate the black keys as well. I hope they keep them silver or go white.
- mike17032, on 02/16/2008, -0/+6I am hoping they change the keyboard of the MBP to be more like the Macbook and the Air, I love the splaces between the keys. It actually had something to do with why I have not gotten one yet.
- lotus22, on 02/16/2008, -0/+1I'm glad I got mine in June when the Santa Rosa's first came out. Great Laptop.
- Nexum, on 02/16/2008, -0/+2Yeah, I got the original MBP, and the backlight has dimmed over the past two years (I'm not complaining, any other portable would be just as bad). I do have it on ~ 12 hours a day though. The main thing I worry about is the CF backlight blowing altogether, I've seen this a few times, and know it's expensive. If I had the LED backlight, there's not much that could convince me to upgrade until a 4 core Nehalem.
- neckaros, on 02/16/2008, -0/+245nm architecture is a big change. Especially for power/watt (better battery life) and heat.
- neckaros, on 02/16/2008, -0/+18I hope there will be a design refresh (especially magnetic latch)
- SzaszMan, on 02/16/2008, -8/+2Uh oh. Inventory problems. This sounds like the Apple of the early 90s.
- skeen07, on 02/16/2008, -13/+3I would rape you, dear reader, for a Macbook Pro.
- DarkDx, on 02/16/2008, -8/+1Starting point: 2299$
Mark my words.- AvidPreatorian, on 02/16/2008, -1/+3$1,999.99 - STANDARD MODEL; 2,499.99 - ENHANCED MODEL
- songfire, on 02/16/2008, -2/+7Kind of off topic, but...Did anyone else out there wish that the Air was going to be a 13" macbook pro instead? Swap out the DVD drive and put in a graphics card, you have something as small as a macbook but as powerful as a pro, with the price somewhere in between.
- mike17032, on 02/16/2008, -0/+5I like the big screen of the current MBPs, 13 inches just seems so small to me.
- MonkeyFarts, on 02/16/2008, -0/+5Yeah but 13" is the perfect size for portability, so having something as highly portable as the MB/MBA, yet as powerful as the MBP, would be awesome.
- songfire, on 02/19/2008, -0/+1I once thought so too until I started using a 2nd monitor at work. Now 13" would be fine for most of my computing time, but I would also have something far more portable as well. Don't get me wrong, I love my 17" MBP, but try using it on a flight or a small cafe table!
- mike17032, on 02/16/2008, -0/+5I like the big screen of the current MBPs, 13 inches just seems so small to me.
- deadnoob, on 02/16/2008, -0/+1i wouldnt be surprised. it looks like apple is heading for a long year of announcements.
- noisewaterphd, on 02/16/2008, -2/+0I think mainly they are just being updated to have the new trackpad with gestures capability like the air?
- Ellipsys, on 02/16/2008, -1/+1I hope the new refresh contains the GeForce 9600GT graphics card. 8 series is end of life.
- mike17032, on 02/16/2008, -0/+2A BR drive is what I am most hoping for.
- slundal, on 02/16/2008, -3/+1HAHAHA! new graphics for a mac laptop? Are you new here?
- consonance, on 02/16/2008, -0/+2One should note that MacMall is running closeout specials on MBPs. Suspicious, no?
http://www.macmall.com/macmall/families/macbookpro ... - mogebier, on 02/16/2008, -5/+1OMFG!!
THEY ARE HOLDING BACK TO INCREASE DEMAND!!
EVIL EVIL EVIL!!
Well, that's what everyone says when you can't go out and buy a new video game console on release day. So why should Apple get a pass??- koreth, on 02/16/2008, -1/+0Because this is about the current models, not the upcoming ones, and is thus not the same situation?
- mogebier, on 02/16/2008, -0/+1Shaddap if you don't understand sarcasm.

- mike17032, on 02/16/2008, -0/+5Come oooon BlueRay drive.
- kansai22, on 02/16/2008, -3/+1Sony AR has that right now and has had it for over a year and a half. Blu-ray burners
- setrusko, on 02/16/2008, -4/+11MBPs are by far the best notebooks out there.
- andycr512, on 02/16/2008, -4/+4"Best" is subjective.
- kansai22, on 02/16/2008, -6/+3Lies there are many better notebooks. Personally I like the Sony AR series which has a lot more features for the price, many which the MBP dont even offer like Blu-ray burners. They also look better than the macs
- andycr512, on 02/16/2008, -3/+4"Personally I like the Sony AR series which has a lot more features for the price, many which the MBP dont even offer like Blu-ray burners."
It can't run OS X, so again, best is subjective.
"They also look better than the macs"
Beauty is subjective, too.- foxter, on 02/17/2008, -0/+3*clears throat*
Pssst! Pssst!
Actually they can run OS X. Albeit not legally, but they can.
- foxter, on 02/17/2008, -0/+3*clears throat*

- jabberwolf, on 02/17/2008, -3/+1"Best" to a retard is very subjective.
- andycr512, on 02/16/2008, -4/+4"Best" is subjective.
- gincarnated, on 02/16/2008, -2/+2I've been waiting for an update to the MBP line for too long. Common Apple. Make me a happy man.
- kansai22, on 02/16/2008, -8/+3Just get a Sony AR series which is out right now. Look at the Sony AR and you will see what features the mac book pro will have. ...... and the Sony looks a lot better too.
- CCB0x45, on 02/16/2008, -1/+7We heard you the first 3 times.
- AvidPreatorian, on 02/16/2008, -2/+3i like Sony's laptops but MacBooks are superior by far, and Leopard is a big part of that.
- jabberwolf, on 02/17/2008, -1/+3Um Sony actually gives you options along with portability. Apple, um??! An envelope?
And even Apple reviewers say its performance is poor and call it a great "internet device"!
Sorry but we need real notebooks. Shipping date of new Sony laptops with Penryn chips Feb. 22nd, Apple lags behind as usual.- tim04, on 02/17/2008, -0/+1"internet device", I'm pretty sure I've got cellphones that do that quite well for 1/10th the price
- moisie, on 02/18/2008, -0/+1And if Apple announces new MBP's tomorrow with immediate shipping?
- dagamer34, on 02/16/2008, -1/+2Maybe Apple will finally stick Bluray drives into MBPs and offer Bluray drives upgrade kits for Mac Pros? One can hope.
- DiggLive, on 02/16/2008, -1/+1Nah, they're gonna make everyone buy an all new Mac Pro to get the Bluray option. It's in their history to not be upgradable because that's not where the money is at. My bet is they'll start selling the Bluray addon and having it check to make sure it only works in the newest Mac Pros, not the ones they've sold already.
- Shaman760, on 02/16/2008, -1/+1BestBuy should be stricken from the reseller list for Apple products.
- Derrelicte, on 02/16/2008, -0/+1Haha...my friend *just* bought an MBP. She will be pretty pissed.
- stalefries, on 02/16/2008, -0/+1If they announce within 10 days of purchase, you can get a free trade-up, or something like that.
- vinbot, on 02/16/2008, -0/+4Prediction/wish:
1) LED backlit HD display (for longer battery life)
2) Flash hard drive (an expensive option I won't be able to afford, but the sooner they release em, the sooner the prices drop to sane levels)
3) Blu-ray (I wish HD DVD had won the format war, but as they say - If wishes were horses, beggars would ride)- foxter, on 02/17/2008, -0/+1And if beggars were horses, I'd wish Blu-ray won the format war.
- jabberwolf, on 02/17/2008, -1/+1Wow what you asked for sounds exactly like a Sony laptop !

- jabberwolf, on 02/17/2008, -2/+1
- Barbarino, on 02/16/2008, -0/+2What about the Mini???? i know the second I buy it they come out with a new one!
- jabberwolf, on 02/17/2008, -4/+1More Apple propaganda.
No one is out of stock! Call Best Buy yourself!!! A retail or the online one.
Maybe mactards that invested are worried and need some of this crap to make up their losses, as well as their dumb egos !- antoniojvr, on 02/17/2008, -0/+2Did your mom not hug you enough?
- rebotfc, on 02/18/2008, -0/+1I think his mom hugged him to much if you know what i mean.
- jasonh1234, on 02/18/2008, -0/+3Every Tuesday that has gone by without the MBP refresh has caused a little piece inside of me to die. God I hope it's on the 19th!
- bdbElysian, on 02/18/2008, -0/+1I hope the MBP finally comes out with a penryn, hybrid SLI and DDR3. I would mention a SSD option but I'd wait for future SSD's and install it myself.
- donna1234, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1Inventory of MacBook Pros has become severely constrained over the past three weeks
