- MixedSpleens, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No Problems with my macbook, although the first one that I got Kernal paneked and died seconds after getting it out of the box, I went back to the vendor and they exchanged it for a diffrent one luckly, and with this one I have had not one problem (cept for it running warm)

- Crumble, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If your MacBook is only a week old, I would say DEFINITELY return it and get a new one!
- Crumble, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dugg! My MacBook did the random shutdown repeatedly a few days back too but it seems fine for now (has been on for 40+ hours without a random shutdown since). All I did was remove the battery and disconnect the magsafe for a while and then put it all back in again.
But still I can't wait until Apple officially lets us know what the exact cause is. Those of you having this problem, I would appreciate a digg here:

People who haven't had their MacBooks do this yet don't seem to be aware of how widespread this problem is... - mggv, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Removing your applesmartbattery file:
com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
from /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Will stop the power indicator from working, but seems to work now for me.
Its probably a combination of hardware and software that is failing.
Michael - smurphx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I just purchased a new mac book 13 inch about a week ago.
It runs really hot; I plugged an enternal firewire device for music recording.
I've had the unit shut down on me. The first night I connected the firewire box, and had a install cd in the unit, it repeatedly shutdown, so I left the laptop powered off for a short time for it to cool down, since I suspected a thermal shutdown.
I thought this was due to overheating, but now am suspicious of this random shutdown issue discussed here.
I'm thinking about returning my unit and getting a new macbook.
I will say this; I've alway own a intel platform for windows or linux. Apple is new to me, and I must say I'm really unhappy and disturbed by this overheating shutdown or random shut down....Any new pc I built never had this issue!!!!
I think OSx is pretty slick, but I'm not in the market to spend all this money on a new apple to have it shut down repeatedly!
FYI:
I've updated to the latest updates for OSx and this includes the firmware update for controlling the cpu fan.

smurphx - brwnx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0On my 2nd MacBook....sure need a fix....
- franzenjb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Has been a chronic problem for my MacBook - glad to see I am not alone. Wish Apple would admit it rather than just keep telling me to send in the battery for a replacement - they obviously know it isn't the battery.
- XServe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Hope this will fix mine and Kevin Rose's MacBook.
