- boardthis, on 08/07/2008, -3/+462should have called it the "elongated neon popsicle" app to avoid any legal action
- NaziHatinChimp, on 08/08/2008, -10/+276That's a shame considering it was better than anything Lucasarts has come up with in the last ten years.
- pingpants, on 08/07/2008, -9/+233LAME
- RocketGib, on 08/08/2008, -2/+129Waits for "PhoneSaber Pro" for $4.99...
- GiJoeBob, on 08/08/2008, -7/+128Way to alienate your fans there Mr. Lucas.
- redwallhp, on 08/08/2008, -1/+82Popsicle is a trademark.
- chkdg8, on 08/07/2008, -3/+83Good. You have to be chosen by the Force in order to carry a lightsaber. Anyone else is just trying to invade the Jedi.
- damndj, on 08/08/2008, -0/+72Frozen Lickable Treats of Assorted Flavors that go WOOOSH?
- silverzone, on 08/07/2008, -9/+76Damn yous George Lucas.
- floort, on 08/08/2008, -2/+67Now it will be HUGELY popular bootleg. :)
- inactive, on 08/07/2008, -5/+62There goes my Star Wars Kid 2.0 reenactment plans...
- Niightwitch, on 08/08/2008, -2/+49Can't use that either....that's what I call my penis.
- badtzmartin, on 08/08/2008, -1/+46Okay... so why is iSaber still there?
I've got PhoneSaber installed. I hope they don't kill it. - HHP2K, on 08/08/2008, -2/+46For sake of an obvious argument, the app was probably pulled because of the sounds.
- hexydes, on 08/08/2008, -4/+42When are companies going to learn that you just can't do this nowadays? Twenty years ago, yeah, you could do this, it might get reported in one or two local papers, and that's it. Now, when you do this, places like Digg (who, by the way, make up a large portion of your fanbase) just hate you and stop buying anything you make. It's ridiculously stupid.
- Aitese, on 08/08/2008, -2/+38Yeah right...Digg users who stop getting stuff with Star Wars in the title...that's going to happen sometime soon.
- MacEnvy, on 08/08/2008, -3/+32I didn't know George Lucas was on Digg ...
Hey George, thanks for murdering my 1980s childhood in 1999. - TheCash, on 08/08/2008, -0/+28Glad I already installed it. Too bad I never actually use it.
- CabesMojo, on 08/08/2008, -1/+28Haha, phone saber usually happens after a few drinks. The nerdiest moment we ever had was when one guy hit the wrong app button and everyone heard the trademark light saber turning on noise, it was quickly greeted by 6 more light sabers igniting. Then all sorts of nerdery took place and we realized we are all in our late 20's and in public these kind of dorky outburst should best be kept to the confines of our own homes, you know where light saber duels are totally ok...........
- ferrell, on 08/08/2008, -6/+33*waves hand*
This is not the iPhone app you are looking for... - Vegabondsx, on 08/08/2008, -3/+28It's really stupid when companies do this. Small fan-made things like this only help promote the brand, inspire fans, and it certainly doesn't cause them to lose money.
- lemonkey, on 08/08/2008, -3/+27These aren't the negative stories about Lucasfilm that you're looking for. Move along.
- clontzman, on 08/08/2008, -0/+21I know everyone loves to hate on George Lucas, but TFA says that it was THQ Wireless who asked for it to be taken down. Lucas actually allows pretty wide use of his characters and property among fans.
- davidwasman, on 08/08/2008, -1/+21Actually, this 'story' is misleading. LucasArts contacted him and asked him to help on a licensed version of the product. They've actually been pretty cool about it.
- itbescott, on 08/08/2008, -2/+20What about "Shwartz-saber 2: The Search for More Money"
- inactive, on 08/08/2008, -3/+21"They want to do some sort of official, Star Wars branded version of PhoneSaber, and will be working with us on that one”
roughly translated meaning they're going to charge for it.
arseholes. - cawpin, on 08/08/2008, -5/+23Agreed. Lame. They need to fight this. The company owns right to Star Wars apps on mobile devices, not any app that references swords on mobile devices.
- jjustin01, on 08/08/2008, -0/+17I have it on my phone, but I have only used it like once to show to my son. Now I'm leaving it on just to see if all the rumored fear about Apple uninstalling apps remotely will actually happen.
- BTom14, on 08/08/2008, -1/+17KOTOR anyone?
- mecharabbit, on 08/08/2008, -0/+15I would pay $999.99 for that!
- Falldog, on 08/08/2008, -1/+16He's been alienating since Episode 1.
- Disease, on 08/08/2008, -0/+15That's ***** awesome.
- boozedrinker, on 08/08/2008, -2/+14WTF?! This isn't violation of intellectual property - THIS IS FREE PR AND ADVERTISING!
I'm sure this is all because they want to find a way to make money off of the dev... - AmazingSteve, on 08/08/2008, -0/+10I'm confused. Is This the app that did the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs?
- PhoenixAvatar2, on 08/08/2008, -4/+14*sigh*. Why couldn't they have made a deal with the creator, give him a license and charge like fifty cents for it or something, just so they get a cut.
- Niightwitch, on 08/08/2008, -2/+12They won't get my PhoneSaber away, unless they pry it out of my cold, dead hands.
- boardthis, on 08/08/2008, -1/+10spaceballs: the iphone app
- Atomic1fire, on 08/08/2008, -1/+10weapons using elongated blades of energy that make cool sound effects that would burn your face off if you thought it was a frozen lickable treat
- mrjofo, on 08/08/2008, -0/+9these are not the non-repetitive comments you're looking for. move along.
- locojones, on 08/08/2008, -3/+12Except this app isn't a samauri sword, or a broadsword, or any other sword. It's clearly a lightsaber with sound effects taken right from the films. Grow up.
- law1ess, on 08/08/2008, -2/+10Let's all install "More Cowbell!" and protest in front of ILM.
http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/ ... - Benji521, on 08/08/2008, -1/+9THAT'S NOT TRUE!!!!!! THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Oogler, on 08/08/2008, -1/+9No, it's not ridiculously stupid. If Lucas didn't assert his rights as the intellectual property owner he may not be able to assert them in another much more serious case later. My reading of the article seems to indicate that Lucas is open to having the app re-upped to the itunes store but officially licensed.
I don't know why you would assert, even for a moment, that it is incorrect for someone to claim ownership to something that is rightfully theirs. What is *wrong* with that? - jackusage, on 08/08/2008, -3/+11So are they then going to sue these guys and put out a lame version?
- lukelucas, on 08/08/2008, -3/+10i'm not sure what all the ruckus is about; i was honestly a bit surprised it didn't get pulled any earlier.
don't get me wrong: i love my PhoneSaber and i love i got it for free. but the app uses unlicensed, actual lightsaber sound effects. they're (i'm assuming) fo'real intellectual property and deserve to be protected.
proceed with digg-down. - inactive, on 08/08/2008, -0/+7The term is "Jedi mind tricks" you non-fanboy.
- 4NDr01D, on 08/08/2008, -1/+8THQ is one of Thee Worst Mobile application providers.
Lawyers are sitting around trying to extract value, rather than innovate.
while it is an App for the iPhone, it could be sideloaded through iTunes Store and skip the "mobile" over the air delivery, there by circumventing THQ's claim. - inactive, on 08/08/2008, -0/+7***** Drew
- boardthis, on 08/08/2008, -0/+71 dollar
- Elranzer, on 08/08/2008, -0/+6Credits to Bioware, not Lucasarts.
