- whiteyMcBrown, on 10/31/2007, -6/+36A lot of people (myself included) buy Apple's products are are pretty passionate about their stuff. It's kind of a mystery, really.. no other company has a following quite like Apple's, but there it is. I bought Leopard and I haven't had any problems yet. I'm really enjoying it. Everything is working as advertised and I've been recommending it to everyone. I don't know why people who love Windows come into Apple discussions are just talk ***** about Apple. It's really useless. If you don't like Apple discussions, then block Apple stuff in your digg profile.
- saleens281, on 10/31/2007, -5/+31Shocking. There's more macs in the marketplace now, and they sell more copies of the OS. HOW DOES THAT HAPPEN!?
- stellarceltic, on 10/31/2007, -13/+34As a former PC user, I can confidently tell you that you get what you pay for.
- streak, on 11/01/2007, -7/+26It took Tiger 4 weeks to sell this number.
- meatmcguffin, on 10/31/2007, -3/+17"under the delusion that anyone gives a flying ***** about what OS I use on my little toy computer"
Funny you should say that seeing as you comment in EVERY ***** APPLE THREAD. Careful, your insecurity is showing. - Lou3000, on 10/31/2007, -4/+14I would buy mac hardware without the software.
- JustinHorne, on 10/31/2007, -6/+16Considering that today's low end processors are WAY faster than 4 year old high end stuff, and a new, $300 dollar computer is far from high end, I'm calling BS.
- brendan09, on 10/31/2007, -6/+16this article has been on the front page 5 seperate times for 5 seperate articles! i am a huge mac fanboy but stop with the "leopard outpaced tiger" posts....
- rudy23, on 10/31/2007, -4/+14ipod, macbook pros, macooks , imacs. I think the hardware is just as fantastic
- FuzzyC, on 10/31/2007, -1/+10Vista sold 40 million in 100 days, 88 million total as of last month.
- lfernandez91, on 10/31/2007, -8/+16And that's the reason Macs work so well
- ploke, on 10/31/2007, -3/+11Leopard upgrade is 69 (Canadian) at my school bookstore. The prices of their laptops have dropped a lot recently. Seriously, get a good computer and look at it like an investment—rather than a cheap disposable laptop. The academic-related software (bookends, mellel, omni outliner, yojimbo) is amazing. A mac is worth it for students.
- britkev1, on 10/31/2007, -7/+15Yeah...because its getting really bad reviews and all of those shiny new features are certainly not worth the money.
- MonkeyFarts, on 10/31/2007, -2/+9Buy refurbished from the Apple store. You'll save a ton of money, and you can use your education discount on Leopard.
- ramsinks.com, on 10/31/2007, -0/+6I waited in line for Vista. O, wait. There was no line.
- Olle, on 10/31/2007, -1/+7How long did it take Vista?
- zorlok, on 10/31/2007, -0/+5who says Apple wants to sell to everyone. Expensive cars are nice, but they are only for those who can afford them. One day you will be able to afford it, and when you do you'll think it's worth it. Sorry, but that's just the way it is.
- jayfehr, on 10/31/2007, -2/+7Actually Tiger was the best OS I had ever used, Not saying the others were bad, but Tiger was better. Leopard beats Tiger hands down, and yet there is still room for improvement.
- inertic, on 10/31/2007, -2/+7There are plenty of other companies that make products that have a cult following (porsche, mini cooper).
- BossKey, on 10/31/2007, -1/+6True. Next time wait before you buy the wrong edition of Vista.
- MakinBacon, on 10/31/2007, -1/+5Which is about $149 US dollars isn't it?
*****, it felt good doing that after years and years of my American friends making fun of my good ole Canadian dollars! - threemagic, on 10/31/2007, -8/+12A fool with nothing to say is you.
- jkoke, on 11/07/2007, -2/+5Give up breathing.
- deadbaby, on 10/31/2007, -0/+3I've found the Windows fanatics can usually be grouped into a few categories:
Windows Expert, computer idiot: This is the type of person who never bothered to learn anything about how computers actually work. They just know what buttons to press in Windows. They can fix your Windows problems, AV scan, spyware scan, format/reinstall. Give them a non-Windows OS and they are clueless. (and usually angry and defensive because they suddenly aren't living up to their self-created image of Mr Know It All)
Career Windows guys: People who have built a career supporting Microsoft products. Either to the end user (AV, spyware removal, etc) or as domain admins, ASP coders, etc. They have a financial interest in promoting Windows.
PC Gamers: If a computer can't run CounterStrike 12 hours a day it's useless to them. They can't comprehend the idea that some people do more than play games on their computer. - BossKey, on 11/02/2007, -0/+3In Microsoft America, Vista waits for customers!!!
- MonkeyFarts, on 10/31/2007, -0/+3Judging by how many people are downloading illegal copies off Bittorrent, and sharing their friends & families' install discs to get Leopard for free, I would have to say not that many.
- johnny222, on 10/31/2007, -3/+6Either you're missing a couple of zeros on that price tag, or your a bleeding idiot.
- inactive, on 10/31/2007, -1/+4Without their software, I'd probably just stop using computers.
- dondara, on 10/31/2007, -0/+3http://apple.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=07/10/30/ ...
Cracked (sort of). Wonder how many switchers they could get out this - astrosmash, on 10/31/2007, -3/+6They're insecure.
- BossKey, on 10/31/2007, -3/+6"Without their software (OSX, iTunes, Finalcut pro) NOBODY would bother buying their hardware any more!"
Not true, their hardware holds up so well people would probably buy it to run Windows.
As in this article from yesterday:
"The fastest Windows Vista notebook we've tested this year is a Mac."
http://digg.com/apple/PC_World_Macbook_Pro_is_the_ ... - superkendall, on 10/31/2007, -0/+2"Windows testing is a lot more rigorous"
Actually not true, Microsoft farms out a lot of testing back to people like driver developers.
Apple testing is every bit as careful. Some things always slip past but all my computers worked just fine. - Goobernutz, on 10/31/2007, -0/+2I messed around with a cracked version of OSX for a few months just for the fun of it. I was overwhelmed by the ease of use and just loved using it. But I still went ahead and bought Vista (the first time I ever actually paid for an OS). The vista experience disgusted me from the beginning. I spent 2 weeks hunting down drivers for a 2 year old laptop! In the end I was able to dump the vista dvd on an unsuspecting friend and bought a mac. Had I not used the cracked version, i probably wouldn't have considered switching. So those two things (and the constant noise from the *nix nerds at work, bleating on about ubuntu) added up to a first time switcher and an apple advocate for the foreseeable future.
- jkoke, on 10/31/2007, -0/+2There's this new invention called the intertubes, and you can actually purchase software online and have it delivered to your residence. Perhaps this could account for these strange findings.
- jkoke, on 10/31/2007, -2/+4First, you fail at life. Get used to losing.
Second, your "image" of Apple users is outdated, inaccurate, and based on the anti-Apple propaganda that you've ingested on the Internet. You've never really met any Mac users and your experience with an Apple store is shuffling fervently back and forth humming to yourself across the Mall while you watch people with actual disposable income purchase things they enjoy. I know you spent a while composing that comment -- good job. Try harder next time. - inactive, on 10/31/2007, -2/+4Vista has only averaged a half a million copies a day since its release.
- jkoke, on 10/31/2007, -1/+3Learn to use RSS -- you CAN filter it if you try.
- reallydigginit, on 10/31/2007, -1/+3@duk, your little comment seems to be taking a dig at Apple and a whine over their "monopoly". Hilariously, you say you wish it'd work on your PC. So, you don't say sh*t about Microsofts monopoly, but Apple 8% market share, that really pisses you off?
Here's an idea: if you hate monopolies SO MUCH, why not stop using MSoft products? That'll show 'em! And you won't look like such a hypocrite - lukes, on 10/31/2007, -1/+3This coming from a user called salamibreath
- MonkeyFarts, on 10/31/2007, -6/+8Technically they don't hold a monopoly over the hardware. If they owned the hardware companies, though, then you would be correct. However, last I checked, Apple doesn't own such companies as Intel, nVidia, or ATI. Remember: Apple is a _hardware_ company. The only difference between them and the likes of Dell and HP is that they ship their computers with their own OS, instead of shipping them with somebody else's OS. After all, what business sense would it make to sell software to anybody when you're pretty much guaranteed a
- bigkevheck, on 10/31/2007, -0/+1If you can afford a laptop, you must have a source of income, so it is only a matter of time before you can afford a mac. I saved up money for an entire summer before I bought my first mac and it was definitely worth the wait.
- TheFinaleofSeem, on 10/31/2007, -2/+3You're a total *****, and you have the nerve to call Apple guys "pretentious human *****" with that ill-educated drivel?
"They are visual people."
Meh, not really. It's nice if it's snazzy, but I care more about functionality. Apple usually succeeds in this category, although there are exceptions.
"They are brand sensitive."
No, not really. Apple is about the only brand I really subscribe to. I'll buy generic anything else if it's cheap and the quality looks good enough.
"They are highly influenced by peer pressure."
100% pure, uncut *****. How much is that worth on the street?
"They like the tidy everything in a box method."
That's somewhat true, but so ***** what? My desk is a mess, but most Mac folks like they're stuff to simply work. I fail to see the big deal here.
"They drive volkswagons and I'm not sure why, and yes, it sickens me."
Eh, I'm using an old Beetle for the wife's around town car, but I drive a Dodge Neon. I really don't care what I'm driving as long as it works well enough and gets me around with good mileage.
"I hate the Apple store. The people who wander in wear earth tones and wool scarves like an Urban Outfitter ad. I hate them. They disgust me."
Blah blah blah stereotype blah blah blah ill-informed crapola blah blah blah
"They are the pod people. Not the ipod people. No. Invasion of the body snatcher mother fukers."
Better off yourself now before they get you! Make sure you get your whole head in front of the shotgun or they'll possess your body!
"If they were real Apple customers then they would remember playing pong or artillery on the 2E plus in the late 70's. Then, I might give them an ounce of respect. But, as it stands, they are poseurs and that is why it needs to be broadcast as opposed to kept private."
I played a lot of classic games on the Apple IIgs and still have the old hard drive in an emulator image. I still think that was one of the best computers Apple ever made.
In short, you're full of maggot-infested mutant monkey *****. - inactive, on 10/31/2007, -1/+2Man, I got so much ***** defending apple in the mid 90s. "peecees are better, they are more compatible with stuff!" "what do you need to get on pc that you cant get on macs besides games?" "uhhhh."
- damnyooneek, on 10/31/2007, -2/+3so biased but you've never used a mac.
- TheFinaleofSeem, on 10/31/2007, -4/+5"BSOD" - Not really a Windows-style BSOD as it's easily remedied. It was due to ***** third party software that has always been buggy. How is that Apple's fault?
Missing Volumes - An installer glitch that is very easily remedied. Hell, a reboot fixes it.
Time Machine problems - The worst I've seen is that it doesn't work the first time, so you have to go into system prefs and click a couple buttons.
Missing features - Huh? What was advertised that never made the cut? I'm not talking about stuff that was in developer builds, I'm talking about the stuff Apple specifically said would be there.
It's much better than Vista. Vista had a tendency to hose drives completely. I haven't heard of Leopard doing anything that, at worst, couldn't be remedied by reinstalling. - lukes, on 10/31/2007, -3/+4Like their operating system
