- bakingoven, on 10/12/2007, -6/+83Can't wait to see what those top secret features will be! the excitement is building up....
- Darkhavans, on 10/12/2007, -28/+91It's gunna own vista :O
- serpicolugnut, on 10/12/2007, -1/+31I hate to rain on everyone's parade, but I am 95% sure Leopard will not be shipping anytime in March. An announcement in March about Leopard and a late May/June shipping date seems more plausible.
Look, there's a process these releases go through. Apple releases seeds to developers who test the new OS. As the new OS gets closer to release, Apple goes through a "Final Candidate" process, releasing anywhere from 1-4 FC release seeds to developers. Once all the bugs have been ironed out of the FC seeds, there is a Golden Master that is produced, and shipped to manufacturing. Not only have we not hit the Final Candidate phase (which can usually last between 4-8 weeks of development time), we haven't even had these "top secret" features revealed to developers yet. Apple is not going to release an OS with big, unseen features without any lead time. Developers would be in revolt if Apple said - "our new OS which breaks your application is shipping in 30 days". And trust me, anything that is "revolutionary" or "ground breaking" is most likely to break a good number of 3rd party (and maybe even Apple's apps).
Hey, I want Leopard as much as the next guy. I've been making due with my Developer Preview since I got it at WWDC last August. But it's not coming in March. Sorry, aint gonna happen. - jerr0328, on 10/12/2007, -5/+31I hear Tupac is still alive, too.
But seriously, Leopard looks really cool. Makes me wish we had an Intel Mac Mini (instead of PowerPC) - cleverhanz, on 10/12/2007, -7/+32I think you are confusing it with Vista service pack #1, which should be out around the same time.
- crilen007, on 10/12/2007, -19/+43According to the "Fanboys" it can do anything. Including steal your copy of Vista.
=P
Naw, I'm sure it will be a great OS though. - Justin6512, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25well your power pc will still be able to run it. They never said that the PowerPC wouldn't be able to run Leopard. It will be universal. Later versions of OS X might not be universal though. But I know what you mean, it's going to run slower on your older power pc mac mini.
- opiv421, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25I was going to buy a Macbook this week... guess i'll have to wait :)
- Vermifax, on 10/12/2007, -5/+27"So care to explain to us the brilliant features in this?"
http://www.apple.com/macosx/leopard/
You were .......serious about learning more, right? - Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -10/+30Ironically all true Leopard's look beyond the vista.
Look the way Leopard looks on a phone; the iPhone, now imagine the way it will look and what it will do on an actual computer! - se0siris, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20"Spring" is pretty vague though - it's nice to have an inkling as to roughly when in spring.
- iDrinkKoolAid, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21@flag564
"So what exactly is in this OS that is so incredible that everyone should be dumping what they have now in order to get it."
It has a feature where one can choose to 'ignore' irrelevant digg commentary... - inkswamp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16> Like, y'know, on schedule.
They would have had to cut even more features to do that. - Naga10, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18If they could, maybe Vista would have been out years ago!
Like, y'know, on schedule. - ZachPruckowski, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Leopard's not late. Leopard was originally targeted for "more than 18 months after Tiger", and then "H2 2006 - H1 2007". It's currently set for "Spring 2007", which makes it Q2 2007 (which is in H1 2007). Maybe it's late relative to random fanboy guessing, but it's right on it's official track if it's released before June 15th.
Vista however, was due in like 2003 or 2004. And then 2005-2006, then "Late 2006", and it's only finally out now. - HUKI365, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19I would say I'm only waiting out for Leopard for proper Vista support with BootCamp...but fear the digg down.
- Vermifax, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13I'm happily married with two kids.
Bring on the Leopard! - ZachPruckowski, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16Guys, this is a bunch of random rumor mongering completely unsupported by any sort of fact. It's essentially some guy saying "well, if Apple announces the rest of the features tomorrow, and sends it off to the presses a week later, it could be out March 31st".
This is not news, and doesn't belong on digg. - Markie1006, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14> Dang it, I could have sworn that I've blocked flag564 before... Did he change his name or something
The problem is, if you block him, you lose both the enjoyment and privilege of digging down his comments. - threemagic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Why?.. it's seems a legitimate reason to me.
I would like Leopard for the same reason.. the other KNOWN features I'm not so sure how they'll affect me. BUT the UNKNOWN intrigues me..
Not to mention, you DID just say you are waiting on Leopard for Vista. - dasluvaluva, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Dude. I'm a mac fanboy and even I have to say you're a total loser.
- defectDS, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13Haha. Seeing as a big part of the Digg population is teenagers, how is that something to be a shamed of?
- musicphreke, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15actually Vista SP1 is slated for a Fall '07 release, not spring. Microsoft can't work THAT fast.
- Rodzirra, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14Dang it, I could have sworn that I've blocked flag564 before... Did he change his name or something?
- kevinmotel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10at this point, i'd recommend everyone who is planning on buying mac to wait for leopard. we're sure to benefit from some speed boosts in the processors as well as a brand spanking new OS
- meatmcguffin, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12"Funny how when someone questions anything about Apple they are a troll."
Asking valid questions isn't trolling but... you are a troll. You came into this discussion and immediately insulted the first few posters followed by a disparagement of the OS in the form of a question asking stuff you already know. And we all know you know because you barge into Apple threads throwing around criticisms of everything Apple do whether they're deserved or not. Either you honestly do know the features of leopard, in which case your trolling here, or you don't know and are trolling in every Leopard thread I've seen you complaining in. Either way you are, unless you can think of a less quaint way of putting it, a troll.
"Another Apple fan who hates people that just don't fall in line with the iCrowd. Funny how when someone questions anything about Apple they are a troll. Do the same thing with Microsoft and the same people wouldn't dare call you one. "
Nice Artie MacStrawman argument there. Funny how in your world anyone who doesn't agree with your stance on Apple is branded an Apple zealot. We aren't all rabidly devoted to Apple, we're rabidly devoted to clicking the digg down button beside your name when you appear and add ***** all to the conversation as usual.
It would be nice, for once, to see you join in a conversation with some rational thinking, facts and figures and then we can all have a nice chat instead of the comment spam of you whinging about why you got dugg down when you inevitably deserved it.
"So why upgrade?"
Personally, developer tools but generally, unless the secret features turn out great, agreed. - Carlsen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Very nice. I'm really looking forward to this one!
Has anyone read details about the new UI? Read somewhere that Apple had some UI-related surprises in the oven for Leopard. - BrianPower, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13You're a virgin?
- iSlayer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Yet another mac mongrel somewhere out there has said something that make you all drool with anticipation, and when it doesnt arrive you are all going to wonder what the heck happened. Then another annoucement in April...then May etc... If Leopard is released in March it would be up to 10.5.x in a matter of weeks.
Still, I will be looking forward to its release when it DOES finally arrive this year. - inkswamp, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10> As a staunch Microsoft supporter who is already running Vista
You have my sympathies. - N1XUK, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7im hoping that with leopard apple will finally release some new widescreen displays with built-in isight and multi-touch touch screen. Then maybe my shop will get it for our POS system.... maybe not
- pruppert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I always get excited when I see a Leopard story hit the front page. I think, "maybe this is it, something has been announced." But then I see it's just another baseless speculation. I'm all for the credible mac rumors, but I just don't understand the interest in these vapid kind of stories.
- DaffyDuck, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8"Dude. I'm a mac fanboy and even I have to say you're a total loser."
Ditto. - bSimms, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5WWDC is still spring too... Summer starts June 21
- urbanrant, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Once Leopard and iLife07 is out, I will get a black MacBook; My first Apple since my Apple ][c
- doctorbaronking, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I am so bummed out right now...
When I first read this, I thought it was about some great tiger migration, swarms of tigers robbing and pillaging their way through the India on the way to Cambodia. - dasluvaluva, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Not only that, but it'll save you the price of the operating system AND iLife '07. That's around $200 savings right there. Plus, there's always free shipping if they release something new.
- meatmcguffin, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9"So a rough translation is that you have no d@mn clue, so you just attack my comment and call it irrelevant."
Oh please..... from the amount of Apple stories you troll there's no way that you *don't* know the feature list for Leopard. Well, I hope you do seeing as you attack it often enough, otherwise your just another fanboy and we all know you hate that kinda thing....right?
Anyway, ridiculous and consistent attempts at trolling usually do get attacked and called irrelevant so why the surprise? You should be used to it by now. - MonkeyFarts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3To be honest, I have a feeling that it has something to do with the fact that every one of these stories turns into a giant flame war, and people _love_ flame wars. I'm completely with you, though; I would much rather come to the Apple section of Digg to see some, you know, Apple _news_.
- MonkeyFarts, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5lopla:
So your entire reason for not switching your OS is so that you can prevent becoming one of the dreaded "FANBOIS LOL!!1"?
That's sad, man. That's really, really sad. - Kenji32, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8Come on...join us...everyone else is doing it...:)
- daborg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"I don't know why daborg is getting dugg down."
Apparantly the people with a sense of humor are outnumbered on Digg. - victorc26, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Can't wait, I already got Vista loaded on my PC, and I'm saving to buy either a Macbook, or a Macbook Pro.
- nfxmedia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I agree. T3 is just recycling an old rumor that's already been dismissed.
- inkswamp, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8> So care to explain to us the brilliant features in this?
No. - Jem2768, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wow, it is true. Digg readers truly cannot understand sarcasm!
@lopla... well I thought the post was funny, dugg up! :) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Macbooks have had Core 2 for months.
- jeffgtr, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6I am very interested in seeing the surprises in Leopard. I have a feeling we are in for some very pleasant suprises. Apple does an amazing job of keeping things under wrap. The new features may be completely different than the ones circulating the rumor mills. I wouldn't look for any drastic changes in the UI though, I think they'll refine it but I don't think they'll go the Vista route and eye candy it to death.
- beggersfunk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I wander, what's new under the hood..hmm!? Hopefully more juicer.
- Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Never buy a Mac product within two months of any Apple announcement or conference... it's a good rule to follow... else you'll be kicking yourself later.
Basically, wait until Leopard comes out. -
