- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+28At least read the article...it has a little notice saying:
*Edit - These have been confirmed by a reader to be digitally altered images - KyleMistry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13"*Edit - These have been confirmed by a reader to be digitally altered images"
Straight from the website, directly under the second photo. - randall814, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11terribly fake. cool idea, but everything looks like ***** for reasons that everyone has already described. and why on earth do people instantly digg anything with "apple" and a question mark at the end?
"iPhone confirmed?"
"Apple manufacturer confirms iPhone?"
no. it's obviously not confirmed until apple goes ahead and CONFIRMS it themselves. i am an apple fanboy as much as the next guy, but a lot of people are blowing way too much smoke up your asses if you buy this *****. - NSResponder, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Good photoshop job, but Apple doesn't make mistakes like that on their banners. There's no way they'd show the three-way video chat on its side like that.
-jcr - doce, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10i posted the same URL apparently 2 seconds before this one. that said, i guarantee you that's fake...
The keystoning of the text, due to the oblique angle the shot was taken from, is not consistent... with the angle the shot was taken from. The in-box shot is suffers from the same effect - it just doesn't quite look like the interior object is being depicted from the same angle as the box.
The depicted device also has a flaw unforgivable in an apple device. Apparently you're supposed to use this device sideways, with the camera to the right (it could feasibly be reversed in software). Either way, human nature would be to hold such a device with a good grip on one or both sides, potentially obscuring the lens. Even better, none of the people in the mocked up image appear to be holding anything at all, and all appear perfectly centered, which means they're looking at their own phone at a slightly odd angle in order to get the lens in just the right spot for their counterparts. There's no way Apple would miss that detail. - drlha, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Indeed. A poor fake at that. The perspective on the text is completely wrong, and looks rather jarring to my eye. I'll be ignoring all "previews" of the iPhone until Steve Jobs is holding it on stage on Tuesday.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Every photoshoper knows that the vanishing point in that picture of wrong.
It's not even a good fake. And for them to post this obvious fake image is IMO, STUPID. - mlivebc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6the banner photo is photoshopped. Just zoom into the photo and look at the device pic. Anybody with a semi trained eye will know.
- ApplCmptrDood, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7I dugg it because I want exactly what's shown, but I'd take it with a grain of salt, like any other Apple rumor. It seems a bit like a rehash of what Kevin Rose said though...
- 1town, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4worst fake ever
- RevMark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I believe both images are PS fakes. I know that Apple's contractor installs the banners completely covered. The only way that somebody could have gotten the photos is if somebody took the cover off while they were being hung. Positively unlikely.
- matman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Dang Photoshop!! My world is soo confused these days!!! Is it real? I don't know! [cry]
- dzarkw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Also, the text on the banner is not the typeface Apple uses.
- rishdeep, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Op, just read this from the article:
*Edit - These have been confirmed by a reader to be digitally altered images - RevMark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Also, if ANYBODY has purchased or gotten a new iPod this Christmas season, knows that Apple has completely changed their packaging. this so called ichat phone box is old iPod style box. Not likely.
- Shizlanski, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You know, if apple had really created something, the easiest way to ensure no1 would believe it if something was leaked would be to deliberately print text out of perspective. BTW, im not saying that they did this (they definitely didn't) , lol, i just thought it would be a good trick.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'd go as far as to say abysmal photoshop job.
- krif, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1fake - on the first "photo" one can clearly see CG in the upper left corner (lights, post-process effects, etc)
- esteban, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think videophone is something people might want but just don't know how or where to use it. If the quality is reliably good and the UI of the device allows for ease of use I think I would use it more often. As it stands on a UTMS 3g network (which is my only experience) videophone is just a gimmick.
- esteban, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't know many networks that carry enough bandwidth to do a good job of a video conference. Here in the UK 3g networks barely carry enough bandwidth to do one-to-one video. All their phones have videophone capability but in reality the performance is so poor I am yet to see anyone use it except just to try it out.
- esteban, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What gets me is the editors are not stupid people. They know it is a fake just as much as we do, especially when it is this poor. No, they are not stupid, they know it is fake but they run it anyway because it is a great traffic builder, ultimately this sort of stunt will undermine their credibility. Cry wolf Techeblog.
- RevMark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very good point. Besides the camera is in a terrible place. The heal of your thumb would cover the camera while you were holding the bloody thing.
- tekrat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I believe the unit is a Toshiba prototype pc-in-one unit from a couple of years ago. It was suppose to be a step between the Palms and tablet PC's. It think they dropped it because the Palm market started dying, tablet pc's never really took off big, and laptops started dropping in price.
- rishdeep, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Naaaaah... looks nice but ergonomically, I can't picture myself using a phone up against my ear designed with the same shape as an iPod. I say fake.
- mp817, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Poorly designed...most people carry keys and other pointy things in their pockets....and finger prints will destroy the true beauty of the phone. I see many returns in the future...people are not going to specifically take care of their phone...
- sweintraub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"submitted by J.C."
as in epiphany? - bigkm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1the right hand side of the item on the banner looks to be slightly out of perspective
- drlha, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2So what you really meant to say was "Poor photoshop job" then?
- whistlerpro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1click the title of the story on tech blog and you shall see the pictures :)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah... it looks fake. The bottom one especially. The perspective just looks a little off.
- aerophe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Conference in a box? Steve Jobs has said himself, "Apple is not chasing corporate customers, but rather has its focus on consumers."
- drjekelmrhyde, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1sorry 450
- Xilon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Actually it's the best I've seen (not the the quality of the manipulation, but the idea)
- daveheinzel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'd like the ability to video chat over the Apple Mobile, but I would much prefer the camera to be on the back so that it could be 'the little camera I take with me everywhere.' Glad this is a fake.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I agree about the miserable perspective matching of the text and image. It's clearly just a ***** fake. Mark inaccurate everyone to get this off the front page.
I mean come on.. sometimes fakes are graphically impressive but this is just pathetic. - sinembarg0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Those are obviously photoshopped images of a 5/5.5gen iPod Video. Bad ones at that.
- tripple-breve, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It is in line with concepts for a full touch screen interface in order to perform a variety of tasks/functions that have surfaced before, I'll give it that.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5Hmm... I'm a little skeptical
- infobhan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0fake - no way the screen would be sideways on the poster. And agreed the angle of the text is wrong
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1agreed, this is garbage
- drjekelmrhyde, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1550 damn no thankyou you can get a ipod shuffle and a Zune or 30gb ipod video and a damn rzar
- Shizlanski, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4WTF, now they are back up? Digg down previous comment... and now this one too i assume, knowing digg. =)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I see no pictures in there..
Tech Blog sucks. - cgjamj, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I'm so sick of these leaked pictures being released and then everyone screaming that it's fake. It may be, it may not be, but you don't know for sure. Who cares? We're all going to find out very soon exactly what this thing does or does not look like.
These leaked images do serve a purpose though. Once it's released you can compare what it does look like to what it could have or maybe should have looked like. I remember leaked pictures of the original xbox which turned out to be completely fake. I wish i could find this one image in particular. It was green and very thin and looked WAY better than the real console. I wish that image had been the real deal. - LilBoyLuver, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Tub Girl
- spammvp, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1With out a QWERTY keyboard, this product would never work. Steve Jobs knows that the basic usage of iChat as an AIM or IRC client is what keeps millions of mac fans using it. If he is going to create an "iChat Portable" it is likely that its first purpose would be that of Phone, and its second purpose would be the iChat functionality. It is extremely difficult to type anything on a touch screen. I believe that Apple is going to release a phone that has touchscreen functionality as well as a "slide out" QWERTY keyboard, just like Kevin Rose said. But i think that this phone will be either released alongside a more basic phone, this Tuesday, or later down the line.
- Nocturnal, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3Any idea what provider this phone will go with? I'm hoping a GSM network so that it can possibly be unlocked and used on any GSM network.
- Shizlanski, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2Tech blog took the photos down but in case you didnt get to see what the fuss was about, dugg mirror caught it.
